[Q] Is SD-Card partitioning needed when installing a rom? - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Small question.
As I have now rooted my LG L3/E400GO, I am planning to install Cyanoid Stock/SDMerge on it. I saw a Youtube video in which someone was showing SDMerge, it came to my eyes that he had 2GB system memory. As the LGE400 has only 157MB system memory and 1GB internal memory, these 2GB must come from the external SD-Card. Do I have to partition my SD-Card to have one of partition -> these 2GB as the system memory and another partion -> the rest for storage? Or will installing the rom do this just by itself?
Thanks in advance.

Nope you musn't do it.Whilst flashing step 1/2 in recovery the partioning automatically starts and is done correctly.

1Gb internal memory will become system memory and it's 1,14Gb, the only thing you must do is flashing step 1 & 2 >>> rom and step 4

Custom you data partition's size

Data storage space is always a problem for Android, which is why there are a lot of app2ext and data2ext solutions. There is app2sd function build-in in Froyo (there are a lot of problems), but those methods are not as good as expanding the data storage space directly.
Instructions:
1. Backup your Internal 2G Storage, doing this will erase the internal 2G data.
2. Download the attached partition.zip to EXTERNAL SDcard, make sure there are enough space in EXTERNAL SDcard (depends on your data partition size, around 600MB is enough).
3. Disable APP2SD, DATA2EXT, SWAP.(if have)
4. Boot into recovery, do not clear/wipe, flash this package directly, same as flashing a ROM.
5. After flashing go to advanced options, choose to reboot to recovery.
6. Go into recovery again, do not clear/wipe, flash this package again directly, same as flashing a ROM.
7. Reboot device. Done. All data will be kept, no data lose, all remains the same as before, but the storage space has been changed.
Characteristics:
1. Data storage space expanded to 1.2G, internal storage space squeezed to 1.46G (you can use custpartition.bat custom your size).
2. Data storage space is expanded permanently, no matter what ROM you are going to flash, including official ROM!
3. No side-effects, very safe.
How It Works:
Changed the Huawei internal 4G ROM partition solution, squeezed 2G space to 1.46G, leftovers are given to data storage.
This is cooperation work with 凡人 from 5irom, thanks for his bravery to test it out, otherwise I will not take this step ahead, you know it is money, bricking is scaring!
thanks simplistian provide me a U8800H partition table, and translate!
This is not a ROM, this is an upgrade package, you can treat it as a simple partition solution.
1.2G DATA + 1.46G INTERNAL SD upgrade package:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dyz4uqz5a30cypy
return-to-stock partition solution upgrade package:
http://www.mediafire.com/?x72e6p4hvo3adhj
Custom Partition tool:
useage:
1. download this tool and unzip to any directory 2. run custpartition.bat, follow the prompts to enter the number 3. and custpartition.bat positions will generate the partition file 4. replace the same file in the package 5. flash the zip pack, OK!
http://www.mediafire.com/?m1nqg1y4gp5szp5
To Those Who Upgraded to V6 Before: you can reflash same ROM,replace recovery, then install this upgrade package.

So will this change the 2GB internal as the mobile memory? so all apps will be installed in there instead of the system?
Will this effect the external SD?

It was already answere by developer himself it does work as "mobile "memory , so apps will be installed there
Anyone know if the performance difference between the two will make a difference? (I'm assuming the 2GB may be a little slower, but probably not noticeable).
It will be the same speed. It is the same physical chip inside the phone. Think of this as repartitioning your hard drive. It just moves the unused space of HWUserData to data.

After you apply this update there will be no 'Internal SD Card' since it is converted to data storage (for apps and OS files). If you haven't applied this update the internal SD card will appear in my computer when you plug in the device and mount storage.

[Q] Where is my memory going ?

I've xcd35 also known as zte blade. I've not installed many applications, still I see only around 25MB free space in my phone memory
What can be the reason for this ?
Have you taken a lot of photos or videos possibly and are those not being saved on the SD card?
Yes, i did took many photos but they are on my sd card.
Still I don't know where did the space go.. can anyone help me in getting back my space ?
Maybe you should install some app such as file manager from market (I can't provide a link, search "file manager", it's the first result by rhythm software). Then go ahead and select "Storage analysis" after clicking menu. It'll do a complete scan of your phone+SD-card and then shows you the biggest space hoarders.
I installed file manager and it says following,
device total memory: 162.5 M
device free memory : 24.57M
sd total memory: 1.86M
sd free memory: 1.15M
Also, it gives the biggest space holders, but all those are in my sd (like one app tak 570+ MB and my documents take 33M, both are in my sd).
the list all space holders includes the folders in sd card only.. How do I see status of internal memory ?

The 162.5MB is the total internal memory available for your apps and their data. The 24.57MB is how much of that is free at the moment. When you move an app to the sdcard, some of it is left behind on the internal memory, so you can't get rid of all of it. You can increase the amount of internal memory available by creating an ext partition on your sdcard (though it looks like you only have a 2GB sdcard, so you wouldn't have much space left for music etc. on it) and then using something like darktremor a2sd to move your apps to the new ext partition. This works differently from the normal move to sdcard as it allows you to move the whole app so frees more space.
The other option is repartitioning the internal memory. This means you take some of the space from where the rom is installed, and add it to the data partition so you can make use of it. For this to work well you need to use/be using a custom rom as the stock ones wont fit in the reduced space.

This isn't really a long term solution. The dalvik cache is needed by the phone, so wiping it will only temporarily give you more space until the phone rebuilds it all once you use your apps again. The cache partition is separate from the data partition, so wiping that would make no difference to how much space you have available.

Which ROM you are working on? It seems like you have stock ROM as you are unaware of CWM. If you are using stock rom, you need to switch to any custom rom to flash darktremor a2sd so that you can partition you sd card and install applications on them. You can get complete tutorial on installing CWM and custom rom from cyanogenmod website. You can uninstall bloatwares if there any to free your phone memory.

You need to root and install a custom rom to partition both internal as well as external memory efficiently. You can flash darktremor a2sd script that allows you to install apps on partitioned sd card to your rooted stock rom but it won't work (didn't work for me).
Almost all the custom rom come with darktremor a2sd pre-installed on it. So it is advised to switch to any custom rom. But beware, both rooting and installing custom rom will void your warranty. Once you install a custom rom, i'm sure you will love it.
You can find guide on partitioning internal memory on the following links
h**p://android.modaco.com/topic/339048-guide-flashing-firmware-to-bladelibra-via-windows/
and here
h**p://android.modaco.com/topic/337426-gen1gen2partition-layout-tool-windows-only/
But i personally won't recommend partitioning you internal memory as the following ICS rom uses the default like partition.
You can follow the following link below to root and flash cyanogenmod
h**p://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=ZTE_Blade
If you find rooting steps given in the guide difficult you can install z4root from following link and install it on your phone to root the phone easily.
h**p://www.4shared.com/file/TA3fZuTc/z4root_zte_blade_permanent_roo.html
Once you install cyanogenmod install "ROM MANAGER" from market and there you will find the option to partition your sd card.

You can partition the sdcard from ClockworkMod recovery, which you need to flash the custom rom or the darktremor scripts to make use of the ext partition. Some roms come with it pre-installed, others you have to flash it separately.
You can repartition the internal memory by TPT or Windows flasher. TPT is the easier and safer method. From your internal memory stats you posted earlier, it looks like you are stock Gen 2, but download the Mr Pigfish app from the market to check.
If it says you are Gen 1, then you can use one of wbaw's TPTs from his thread on here, or you can use them from my app. Once you use one of these, you will be converted to Gen 2 as well.
If you are Gen 2 already then you are most likely stock Gen 2 and will need to use the TPT's from my app (choosing the stock Gen 2 option when it starts), from the thread I made on here, or by using the Windows flasher.
Here's a tip that I just recently discovered.
Since apps that are flashed in your rom (like Market) cannot be deleted in a conventional sense, a duplicate of the app is created whenever they are updated. I found an app called apps2rom that moves the updated version to the rom, and deletes the old version.
I got a good 10mb from that.

[Q] Internal Memory Low Space on ICS 2.4.27-HWA

I have installed MIUI.us-Leo-2.4.27-HWA.ZIP in to my HTC HD2. Everything is working fine except Camera and phones internal memory is very low, only 25MB resulting cannot update any existing applications.
My phones total internal memory memory is 151MB and available is only 25MB.
SD card total space is 15GB and available is 9GB which is fine.
Total downloaded applications are 26 only, so it is not that I have too many application downloaded.
I moved most of the downloaded and other applications to SD card by using titanium backup. Few could not be moved for unknown reason as it does not give me option to move.
Can anyone please help me to increase my internal memory to at least at 70 or 60MB please.
Would appreciate your help.

Yes, it is NAND ROM. The recommended partition was above 200mb and I used 250mb, so it was okay.
All I need to increase my internal space at least to 60 or 70mb so that application update can be done.
Many thanks
The ROM suggested 200, but you installed 250. You just lost 50 worth o internal storage.
You'll need to install an A2SD script, in order to be able to use your sd card as an internal storage. (of course, after making an ext2 partition )

[Q] SD Partition

There is no problem here
use link2sd to mount your 2nd partition then you can link apps to free up internal storage so you can install more apps
your total internal storage will not increase - only available storage if you link apps to sd card that are currently on internal or have lib files on internal
on most deodex custom roms after you have installed around 80 apps you will have between 30mb & 60mb of free internal storage depending on the data & cache of apps

I don't believe you understand what a 2nd partition is/does
your total internal storage will not increase - that's impossible without repartitioning the internal storage & taking space from other internal partitions which would be stupid as you would take space from boot partition
an sd card partition is on your sd card so you split the total storage of your sd card into two therefore your total internal storage hasn't increased - you haven't put a bigger internal hd in
your 2nd partition size is displayed in the info in link2sd
what it does is take apps in internal space & place them in the 2nd partition - it then leaves a link file where the app was so basically the app still behaves like it's on internal but it's not
No, i understand. Well, that would be all. No problem anymore.

using Link2SD doesn't increase your internal memory/RAM ... Link2Sd makes it easy for Android 1.6+ users with root privileges on their phone to move applications to the "SD card".

If you modify the fstab correctly and make userdata at least 1GB you should be fine. I've partirioned my sdcard to use external sd, cache, system, and userdata giving me much more space to install roms and apps. I'd recommend a more powerful sdcard to take away the lag

[Q] Extending data partition (Lenovo a1000)

Hello folks,
I know this is not the official forum but this seemed to be the only one related to Lenovo Tablets.
So, I just bought a Lenovo Ideatab a1000 tablet (4gb edition) and unfortunately, I came to know that lenovo has partitioned the eMMC card rather uniquely. Only 500 MB is available for installing applications while other space is reserved for data etc.
Obviously, I ran out of space after installing 7-8 applications.
I wanted to ask is there any way to extend the partition to use the whole space? If yes, how?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm facing the same problems
And different storage size.
I have 500mb for Internal
And 2gb eMMC.
My badluck. I dont even asking about this and they dont mention about that when I bought this one.
As I know it will be having 4gb storage with the lowest price.

Install the new update
They just released a new update, which converts the 500MB internal storage to 1.5GB internal storage reducing the USB storage from 2GB to 1GB. It will also wipe out your apps and data, so don't forget to take a back up

Maybe will be better if we find the way to increase the memory of system partition finding the block and looking a way to increase the memory..
Easiest way to increase internal is just swipe the internal and SDcard.
This can be done by overwrite the file vold.fstab in system/etc directory
I have modified vold.fstab file
If you want it
Ppersonal Message me.
