Change DPI without messing up Google Play... Look here - ONE General

This is confirmed to work by me.
For anyone that wants to change their DPI and still have Google Play to work fine, to test it, Search for Microsoft Mobile Office, if you doesnt come up, then just reflash gapps
Im on Stock Google Now Launcher.
Flash Rom
Flash Kernel (Optional)
Boot into rom, either to an app to change DPI or use a file manager with root permission and change DPI (Lovin 380DPI)
Boot back in to Recovery, install GApps (So far, Slim GApps work and I have only used it)
Clear cache/Dalvik (optional)
Profit
Or as timmaaa said:
Only for Pre-Lollipop roms
-Copy the build.prop from the ROM zip you want to flash to your sd card.
-Use a text editor to to change the LCD density in build.prop to whatever DPI you want. Save the file.
-Use the app Zarchiver to view the ROM zip, navigate to /system and delete the build.prop file. Use the add file feature to insert the build.prop you previously edited.
-Boot into recovery and flash ROM + gapps.
-Reboot.
I havent tried this with another GApp package, but will test it next time I re-flash my phone.

you got it.. SS are up

You don't need to edit the build.prop before flashing the gapps zip.
For any Android version you can do this:
-Flash ROM + gapps.
-Boot into ROM.
-Use a text editor to change the LCD density in build.prop to whatever DPI you want.
-Reboot. That's it.
For any pre Lollipop ROM you can do it an easier way:
-Copy the build.prop from the ROM zip you want to flash to your sd card.
-Use a text editor to to change the LCD density in build.prop to whatever DPI you want. Save the file.
-Use the app Zarchiver to view the ROM zip, navigate to /system and delete the build.prop file. Use the add file feature to insert the build.prop you previously edited.
-Boot into recovery and flash ROM + gapps.
-Reboot.

I've been doing it that way for years, and I've never had any issues with any apps. I've found editing the ROM zip itself to be a much easier way to get it done.
EDIT> To be more specific, I mean I've been editing the build.prop after flashing the gapps for years, I've only been using the Zarchiver method in the last 12 months.

Yeah it does indeed say my device isn't compatible. I'm on CM11S at the moment though, so there's no choice but to edit the DPI once gapps are already installed. I don't see you mention that app in the OP by the way.

Yea I noticed I didnt mention it so I edited out.. lol...
So your prolly missing some other apps also, I just dont know what apps you frequently use... Just reflash GApps and it would work again...

Today I learned something new!
So, if I got it right, next time I flash a ROM I'll try to flash Gapps after editing build.prop and rebooting.

If you did what timmaaa said, editing the buil.prop then re-inserting the file back into the rom package, then technically, it should work coz your flashing the gapps package after the edited build.prop

Oh I'm sure it does. The only problem is it won't work with Lollipop ROMs because the hierarchy within the ROM zip very different.

You can only do it after flashing. It populates during the flash.

This sounds like a neat fix! I was changing DPI back and forth!
I'm sure this question is stupid, but if we're still using stock, is there a downside to flashing Gapps?

I didn't see the link to v.1029 but I did see it over at tegratabs. Also you mention in the post over there that flash does not work? does that mean the flash apk from the folio does not work with this build... that would keep me from installing from the 1106 update...
And lastly just to echo so many others, Thanks for your hard work on tracking this stuff down and packaging it up... you have really helped make an unusable device quite awesome.

Sorry, that is from early on when we did not have the flash apk. Maybe I'll add that to a new build if I get a chance. I have been working on getting the next version of zpad which should have flash stock.
You can definitely use flash on zpad if you add it yourself.
Do I need to flash .01 thru .03 and the 1106 or just .03 and the 1106?
Also over at tegra.com board there is a very easy way to flash clockwork onto this badboy, it is the last post in the clockwork thread posted by photonmedia
I think if you use the v.1029 update.zip it has everything... otherwise I did the .3 and then the 1106.. and then just copied the flash apk and ran it to install it.
I am very happy with this so far... very stable
@Rothnic ,

are you using cwm?
Yes I'm CWM 8, I'm using the install from sdcard then choose update.zip, I choose the one I want. Then it says "assert failed: package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img")
Error in sdcard/update.zip

v.1029 is a total package of v.1029 boot.img plus system.img. Zpad Clean 0.3 is just a cleaned up version of this total package.
I only have the 1106 boot.img at the moment that still works with the v.1029 system.img. I am working on getting the whole 1106 firmware.
One option you can do is take the 1106 boot.img and paste it into the update.zip for v.1029 Zpad Clean 0.3.

Wipe Data/Cache
I'm sure this is obvious to many of you, but what exactly is meant by "you must wipe data/cache"? What specific action do I need to take -- is there a menu option in recovery mode or is this something I need to do from the Settings menu in the TapNTap interface?

in clockworkmod recovery these are things you do before flashing a new rom.
Got it now, don't know what was going on with it going on my computer to tablet. I just downloaded straight to tablet and moved the zip to the root of the internal sdcard and it worked. Also has anyone ran benchmark with this rom cause I did and its not very good 525. Anymore possible tweaks/lag fix coming?

i think that has to do with the drivers being young - the tegra2 hardware is really new. the only other rom that is "fast" is cyanogenmod and i don't think it will bench much higher.

That shouldn't be a quadrant score. Those tend to be in the 1800+ range.
1106
Sorry for the Noob question but how exactly to I "flash" the 1106 boot.img file? I've successfully installed the v.03 update and everything's fine except the time/date resets on reboot. Just can't seem to figure out how to do the next step
Also, has anyone tried the Subsonic app? Can't get it to work on this version although it did work on TnT Lite. It's the best app I've seen so far for streaming music from my home server, both home and away on all our devices (iTouch, DX, and now Gtab.)
I do appreciate the hard work everyone on these forums has provided with customizing this tab and helping with problems. Man this tablet would be 100x better if some of the folks on this forum and the tegra forum were involved in getting this tab developed. Here's hoping that Viewsonic provides us with a decent firmware update.

1.12.605.6 Deodexed

WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE /DATA! All of your data will be erased!
So the first thing I did when I got home from work is root my Thunderbolt and create a backup of a fresh wipe of Thunderbolt stock.
First off:
Android OS: 2.2.1
Device: mecha
ROM Name: 1.12.605.6
Rooted (Unsecured boot.img): Yes
Rooted (Superuser.apk + su): Yes
Busybox Installed: Yes
Nano text editor installed: Yes
/system/framework deodexed: Yes
/system/app deodexed: Yes
ROM will wipe data: Yes
Second:
I have tested it does work in its entirety. I had to remove the lines where it flashed boot.img but that is still in the .zip it just doesn't do anything with it since that code in the script it throws errors but without it flashes fine.
Third:
This is completely stock so it does contain the bloat. You can remove it as you see fit using Root explorer or freeze them with titanium backup.

or is there a better way?
Sorry guys for leaving you all hanging. I do have a newer .zip to flash but it doesn't have any of the bloatware (CityID etc) and has some google apps that are on market (Except for quicksearch because it stops the search button from working) to /data/app.
I will upload that later if you like .
Please do. This file is very much appreciated.

Deodexed in a sense means you can edit and change the files as you like allowing custom figures, images, and animations in place of the stock. It basically allows for people to completely customize rooms to make the run and look as they like. Odexed is completely opposite and you would know a rom is odex because there are .odex files next of ever .apk in the system/app/ folder. You cannot change anything in a odex rom. The completely stock rom is odexed.

Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen for Samsung Galaxy S II tutorial

I was using HTC devices for some time and using the ultimate online theme kitchen with it. It seems that this kitchen also works with touchwiz UI roms. Some people in the custom ROMs section sounded surprised so I figure I would post this tutorial
MAKE A BACKUP VIA CWM PRIOR TO FLASHING ANYTHING
Download the ROM you want to MOD and extract all the files somewhere on your computer maybe a new folder or something
Then via your computer goto
http://uot.dakra.lt/
Select File upload and then system files as seen by the screenshot below. You will need to upload the following
framework-res.apk (in the folder with the extracted files from the ROM should be under \system\framework)
SystemUI.apk (in the folder with the extracted files from the ROM should be under \system\app)
twframework-res.apk (in the folder with the extracted files from the ROM should be under \system\framework)
IF USING AN ICS ROM SELECT FLASHABLE ZIP AND CHANGE IT TO EMMC (I have only tested battery mod)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
One the files are finished uploading select from the available MODs (I HAVE ONLY TESTED THE FONT,BATTERY and WINDOW (animations) MODs ON GINGERBREAD NOT THE REST SO TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK)
• Battery
• Icons
• Status bar
• Popup
• Lockscreen
• Window
• Fonts
• Bootanimation
And select use this MOD as seen below.
Select what you want and once done select Summary and make sure all the mods show in green. If not most likely you forgot something. Once done click Submit work to kitchen as per screenshot
Once selected you will be given an Order number like UOT-08-31-21-07-1 or something. Write this down as it can take a while for the file to be made.
Once in a while you can go back to
http://uot.dakra.lt/pickup/
To see if your file is ready. If your browser cached the info it should show your file when ready under
Your recently cooked files
If your browser didn’t cache the info then you can select
Show all pickup files
And simply look for your Order number.
Once your file is ready simply download it (I suggest re-naming it as well to something you may recognize) and put it on the Internal SD of your Samsung.
Boot in recovery and make sure to wipe cache and dalvik-cache prior to flashing it
Hope this helps some people
UOT kitchen is great.
The only thing that wont work on the SGS2 is the lockscreen as we dont have the stock one, I have used almost all the other mods (apart from the screen transitions, and for boot animations I always forgot which location was the correct one)
Nice guide
btw: if you are cooking themes for CM7/T mobile theme engine, make sure to untick generate preview as if you leave it ticked the themes wont work.
Used the kitchen back on my Desire when I had it
Now I use Revolution rom on my SGS2
Is this for all roms? Stock or custom? Odexed or deoxed?

Not too sure if all roms but using it on batista rom with no issues
Best bet is to back up before flashing. Worst case you get stuck in boot loop and have to restore
I've used it successfully for battery icon on Leomar V2.6. I'm not sure but I think the cooked zip file updater script does a cache and Dalvik wipe as part of the install, meaning that doing it beforehand is rather pointless.
As always, nandroid first!

In How-To section of the kitchen it says
9. Wipe cache and dalvik-cache (just in case). Do not wipe data / factory reset.
So I have always done it cant hurt anyways even if done 2 times

Could be a bad download simply or the file didn't get made correctly. I would recommend to re upload the files and reselect your mods and attempt to cook a new zip.
Never had this issue as of yet with this kitchen
BTW recovery 4.0.1.5 is available for use via Rom Manager you may want to update it as well
This is truly awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I second the above comment. I have never tried anything like this before so I was really surprised how easy it was. Thanks for posting this.

Also I recommend people create new zip for any new rom even different versions within the same rom.
Upgraded yesterday and tried using the old one I made but got a boot loop so it's safer to make new ones for each rom since frameworks can change

Hi guys,
Here i want to show my Rom Cleaner, its idea comes from => Here , so credits for the idea and the ini files i used as base belong to him
this app allows you to clean out unneeded crap and bloatware from your roms, before you flash them.
List of files to remove is about 100 different ones now.
i hope some of you will test this and provide feedback.
PS, program is coded in autoit, which some old AV's tend to flag, i'll offer admins a look at the source code if needed.
PS2, Only supports CWM type roms.
Greetz,

I'm assuming course that it would course invalidate md5 checksum, and as a result there's no real assurance that the zip had been repacked correctly prior to flashing.
no, it wont pass that test, but seeying its a regular zipfile, you can always test the zip itself.

True. What about the repacking of system.img ?
this basicly only works on the CWM based roms, which are zipfiles, so i dont touch those

Ahh. Hrm odd I don't recall ever actually using a CWM based rom, every rom I've tried after CM7.2 have been mostly ICS roms, and every i've ever unpacked have had each of the partitions saved as img files.
yes that is weird, every rom i use can be flashed by cwm, and when unpacked, only bootimage is a img file, rest is folders and files.
Interesting idea, cool. So far, I've been deleting manually files from the zips. One suggestion, could you add someday ability to add programs into the selected ROM?
Or even better, enable user to create batch package/batch deletion of his apks/always-deleted-apks that could be added/removed with a single click to/from every consecutive ROM ? Just a loose idea.. Thanks!

you can allready do that, just place the apk's in the files/add folder' it allready has system and data in there, just make a apps folder and drop them in
good idea, ill let program save removal settings on exit, so it can load them when it starts

I'm afraid I don't follow. Drag and dropp doesn't work in any case. I tried dnd on apks, zips with structured folders or folders alone. Give me a tip
chech the program folder, in the files/add folder, are 2 more folders, data and system.
if you make an app folder in there, and drop your apk's in there, they will be pushed to your rom
example, 'files/add/system/app/MyTestApk.apk'

Ok, thanks for the advice! I assume that it won't push apks that aren't supported in removal? I'm talking specifically about Cerberus.apk - it is very advantegous to integrate the app with a ROM.

thats totally unrelated, any file you place there gets pushed, any file.
Come to think of it, I might actually be thinking bout backups I do recall a lot of roms do have the folders set where they're migrated to the existing filesystem.
true, CWM backups are img files
Very nice idea for a program. Is it limited to only roms for our device or literally any CWM flashable zips?
it works on all actually, but i only have HTC phones, so others arent much supported in the apk department, simply because i cant check them

What does 'Universal PA GApps Customizer' do?
It will generate a gapps-config based on your preferences, and save it on sdcard to can be loaded by a PA GApps package. So you can fully customize the installation!
The key words used are from TK GApps! So, older PA GApps based packages may have less key words(e.g. stock PA GApps script), or other packages which improved the stock PA GApps scripts may have more key words(e.g. Open GApps)! UPGC is an universal package, for now I just follow TK GApps key words, but soon I may start adding kind of "profiles" with key words for more packages.
Supported PA GApps based packages:
TK GApps - UPGC covers all keywords offered by this package
Open GApps - UPGC doesn't cover all key words offered by this package
Any other PA GApps based package (stock PA GApps scripts) - UPGC includes more keywords than this package offers
*Presets key words are not included (yet)
Latest version: R3
Download: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=32578
Please offer feedback!
Thanks to:
@amarullz - for his AROMA Installer
@TKruzze - for his PA GApps scripts (especially update-binary)
@MastahF, @osm0sis, @TKruzze - for their PA GApps based packages
Reserved.
Not working for me.
It latest twrp it is just mentioning ... Starting Aroma ... But nothing happens and I need to force the reboot by pressing >8 Sec. Power button
Excellent. Works exactly as expected on my mako.
One minor error to be fixed: in the stock apps removal page, Browser is incorrectly labelled as CalendarGoogle.
Thanks & keep up the good work

Use a older version.. OnePlus One owners face this issue mostly..use TWRP 2.7.0.0 or 2.8.4.0

TK just released a new version with a new Photos keyword for the new Google Photos app!
so i flash this customizer and then flash whatever pa gapps package i have?
Update! Added "Photos" Keyword, fixed some strings, and new color theme!

Yes. If you save the .gapps-config in the same folder as the zip package, then be sure that PA GApps package is also in the same folder with the .gapps-config file when you flash it.

Finally got the chance to try this out on my old GN yesterday! Great job! It's beautiful!
Two things I was wondering about:
1) Is it possible for it to detect if there is already a .gapps-config/gapps-config.txt and load the "current saved config" from it as a starting point?
2) Can the UPGC zip directly flash the GApps package after it writes the config file? I think @hlxanthus was close to figuring this out (if he didn't actually have it working). :good:

1) Of course. But to read the .gapps-config and then to set the settings from AROMA based on .gapps-config it's some work and I can't implement this feature right now. Another simple way to do the same thing, is to save the .prop files (where the settings from AROMA are stored) on sdcard and load them in the coming installations.
2) Uhm, I don't know if that is possible. If @hlxanthus knows, I'm open to listen

1) @raulx222 a working method is included in the package I sent you a while ago. But it is quite convoluted getting it working, but worth it on the end. But, as I assume, if free time is a factor we understand why you don't implement it.
2) To actually call another script/zip to flash from within this aroma package? Well in theory you can call it to unzip to /tmp then set permissions on tkruzzes update-binary (which is just a bash script in the end) and run it. But I was never able to get this to work. If there is a more direct way to do this, I have no idea..
Looks like google clock is missing on the include/exclude keyword in R2

Is this going to be fixed, or will it stay like this?

I can't fix that. We must wait for amarullz to release an update for AROMA Installer.
