Nexus 4 lollipop OTA fail [Solved] - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently tried to update my stock encyrpted Nexus 4 using the OTA Lollipop update. Now when I try to start the phone I can get past the decryption unlock screen as usual, but after that it gets perpetually stuck in the spinning circles sequence. Unfortunately, I have not backed up my data and would like to retrieve it if possible (I thought the backup to cloud feature was enabled, but I guess it wasn't...). I've tried pushing the official Lollipop update using adb sideload; everything seems to work fine (it unpacks and installs without any errors), but when I reboot the phone I still have the exact same problem as before.
Can anyone think of anything that I can do to recover my files? I'm holding out hope that my photos are still on the phone and can be recovered somehow.
Thanks!

[Q] N7 running 4.3 keeps trying to update to 4.3

My N7 16GB WiFi, rooted but stock, updated successfully to 4.3 some time ago. Basically, I used Voodoo OTA to save the root, let the OTA do its work, then restored root using Voodoo OTA. It's worked flawlessly since then.
Suddenly, after weeks with no issue, it started insisting it had to install 4.3 from a downloaded file. It nags constantly, which makes it hard to use the tablet. I've got CWM as the recovery so whatever file it's trying to install won't work from there. The only way I can find to go back to stock recovery involves wiping the tablet. I don't want to do that, unless there's no other alternative.
I looked for the update.zip file in the location that the tablet insists its stored at (root of SD card), but there's no file there by that name that I can find. It only shows up if I allow the nag screen to try and install it. Of course, CWM says that it can't verify the file and aborts the install. Which puts me right back at the ever-present nag screen.
Just to be clear, I am already running 4.3. This whole situation came up months after I'd upgraded. Is there anything I can do to stop the upgrade notices, short of running a factory reset and having to set up the tablet again from scratch?
May have found an answer. Used Wug's toolkit to force-restore the standard recovery. Had to do some old ADB driver removal for a bunch of other Android devices first. Appears to have deleted the unnecessary update file as part of the process. Will keep an eye on it going forwards, but think it's good.
Nope -- didn't work. Had to do a full factory reset/restore to out-of-the-box condition to get it to stop constantly trying to re-upgrade to 4.3. Annoying.

Nexus 7 2012 unrooted - turns on but android won't load

Hi all,
So yesterday I got the alert to update my nexus 7 (2012) unrooted tablet to 4.3.3 which I did. Unfortunately after downloading the update, when restarting to install, an error message came up with the android dude lying on his back and the word ERROR above him.
I restarted the tablet and everything worked fine apart from the fact that the tablet hadn't updated, which I could live with.
Earlier today I went to open the play store but it wouldn't load, the app just said no connection and there was a retry button. Wifi was working fine as I could play other games that need the internet, check twitter etc. So I decided to switch my tablet off and on again.
After turning on, the nexus animation logo comes up (with the 4 colours) and the tablet gets stuck on this page - it won't progress further and actually load android - I've no idea why this is happening. I haven't attempted to root the tablet or anything previously, only ever carried out OTA updates.
Any idea on what I can do please?
Thanks
I don't suppose anyone has any idea's on how I can get my nexus up and running again despite it getting stuck on the animation screen when I first turn it on?
The same happened to me. I had an error while installation of 4.4.3 . Since then, the device reboots, shows me the lock screen for 1-2 seconds and reboots, again and again. I tried the unbricking method with no success till now.
Thanks for the reply.
I managed to get my tablet working by using adb to unlock the bootloader and install the stock ROM again.
Then I locked the bootloader using adb and left it at that.
Only thing was the tablet factory reset itself in the process so I lost all my data etc. Id didn't have a backup which is my own fault I guess.

Stock Nexus 4 Boot Loop

Hi,
I am trying in vain to fix my friend's Nexus 4. She started having problems with a boot loop around the same time as 4.4.3 (I think) but it just went away. Two days ago it came back, possibly around the time of 4.4.4 seeding, however this time it won't go away. I have been looking at threads throughout XDA for help and tried this thread for help. I have a GS4 myself and very little experience with ADB/SDK.
All efforts have failed. As well as the boot loop issue, recovery is broken limiting my options. I tried the "not lose any data" method in the link above but this didn't work. Next the Nexus Root Toolkit, however most of the time the program fails as it says the download failed due to an MD5 mismatch. I have tried downloading the images directly from Google but still no luck - of all the 4.X images available only a couple will even allow me to try and install.
The first install didn't install, I noticed it mentioned the bootloader been locked several times - it recommended 'force flashing' providing I definitely have the right image. Several attempts later I managed to get the install working but it is still stuck on a boot loop (waited at least 15 minutes). Recovery is still broken. The only thing I have been able to do is unlock the bootloader.
So is there any hope? The device is pure stock, no alternative custom recovery or ROMs. Thanks.
I think half the problem is I can't the USB drivers installed properly as the device isn't showing in Device Manager. Without been able to turn on the phone or enable USB Debugging, it won't let me.
EDIT - I tried another toolkit and eventually managed to get 4.2.2 installed. I have just updated the phone to 4.3 but it's been on the Google X screen for a while now
EDIT 2 - Fixed the above. I needed to downgrade the radio. Updating to 4.4 - no doubt I will go through the same hurdles.
EDIT 3 - An error occurred during installation.

I cannot update the software after recovering from softbrick

I originally had OOS3.0.2, and I tried to get Beanstalk rom installed. Beanstalk didn't load correctly, and I softbricked my phone. I managed to go through the recovery of downloading the qualcomm drivers and that weird updating program and then sideload an older version of OOS (2.2). I went to this link and did method 1 https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...ck-guide-for-a-hard-bricked-oneplus-2.347607/. But when I get things fixed up, I can't seem to update to CM13, or even to do a normal update with root, without root, with twrp, without twrp. Nothing. Strangely enough, no matter what I've been doing, the data I had from the very original pre-screw-up time is still all there. Every time I try an update it hangs on the 1+ screen and stays there. How can I get past this? I can't seem to upgrade, and I'm stuck in lollipop.
Well I was still able to get into my phone and do a stock recovery from the Update and Restore option from the phones settings menu, so that fixed it.

Another M-N post upgrade bootloop - on completely stock 6p

Just so everyone's aware, I got this boot loop too today with the following scenario:
Completely stock 6p, upto date with latest MM, never been rooted, flashed, whatever.
Signed up for beta N programme today
Immediately got the N OTA update
Installed it - it rebooted post install but back into MM not N.
Rebooted - it got stuck on the Google logo for 30 minutes
Rebooted - permanent boot loop
I can get into the recovery menu and bootloader, and have tried sideloading the latest 7 OTA but still have the bootloop. Reset/cache clearing all tried.
Annoyingly my bootloader is locked - I've never tried doing anything other than installing standard OTA updates from Google so was unaware that unlocking it might save my bacon until it was too late.
I guess it's a phone call to Google tomorrow....
Update - sideloading this installed OK but I still have the boot loop:
6.0.1 (MTC20F) Link 5a1e93e9974908a0683a4ac8a732b81023f4b01182fd3ead3f091f54300de5ce
So all is not lost. I have an unlocked bootloader, but everything else the same as you. Doesn't really matter as I'm unable to flash anything....even updated my android SDK.
Anyway, I too signed up for Android beta program this morning, and instantly got the N update. Boom bootloop. Non stop. Most I could get it was 20 minutes after a factory reset.
What has worked for me (since 12pm today) was a factory reset and upon signing in to setup. I didn't. I set it up like it was brand new and didn't take ANY restore of apps or data from Google. I added my Gmail after and it's up and running with no reboots for 8 hours now.
It really sucks. The only thing I was able to salvage were my ringtones and notification sounds. It's like starting with a brand new phone ( froyo days without titanium backup). Google has a list of all your apps in the store but reinstalling all of them and logging in is a real pia. Been at it all day. But I do have a functioning stable Android 7.
