I guess many of us have been stuck up with issues where during calls people are not able to hear voice from either side in last couple of days.
Reading playstore reviews of "HTC lock screen" it looks like its HTC who goofed up, lot of people have reported this regression issue.
BTW uninstalling this update did not even solve the issue.
This is just FYI to help folks who are not yet affected.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htc.lockscreen&hl=en
i called HTC after reading this and they told me that there was no reports of this. I suggested checking out the reviews on the play store. No resolution offered though
Hello
My wife has exactly the same problem with her HTC One !
Any workaround someone ??
I asked her to uninstall the HTC lockscreen update but she says it did not help.
Will we have to re-install ROM ?
Hope HTC will correct this really ugly bug.

Well when I posted it , it looked to me a lockscreen bug(may be its not , i am really not sure).. Some people on play store also said that its a problem with HTC service pack (check out its reviews)
Annoyed and reading more figured out that lot of people said that freezing google play services helped them.
Would suggest you check this thread

Hope this helps.

Update to the latest Google play services with this version, released yesterday https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms. Or download apk from here http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google.../google-play-services-6-5-99-1642632-038-apk/ Problem is solved for me. Also clear cache and data for Google Play Services and Google Play Services Framework.
Every time I get this issue,I used to put the phone on Airplane mode and restart it once or twice
Problem got solved for me
The audio bug from installing an update is new to me but I've uninstalled all new updates weather service pack clock etc due to weather not updating and battery drain issues. As far as audio bug where no one can hear you properly this has been a known issue from the phone being launched and relates to noise cancelling microphone on back of phone. My phone is like this all the time but will try anything to get it working again instead of covering mic on back.

The issue is not just on HTC. It is affecting people with Xiaomi and Nexus phones, at least.
This thread on Nexus 4 seems to be the most up-to-date.

For everybody who is experiencing no audio/voice during calls HTC is sending OTA's. I'm not experiencing any problem because I've already updated to 6.09.401.11. And the fix was included in it. <br />

Your lucky I've got this update and its still broke tested the microphones and there working. Having been looking around it seems to be affecting m8 and m8 mini 2 as well. I think this problem has something to do with Qualcomm as its there tech that's used for noise cancellation or whatever it is that's not working properly anyway won't be getting another HTC until this has been fixed I think a known problem that was addressed on m7 then continued on too two other handsets just isn't on.

The 6.09.401.11 update must fix this issue. If your phone is stock/non rooted, update your phone, if problem still occurs go into bootloader, select recovery, wait until a red warning sign or triangle appears on the screen (takes a while) then press volume up and the power button. That will take you to the recovery menu. There select wipe cache partition. That might fix your problem.
Yes I am fully stock but this problem has been there since i have had the phone and this is the third handset it has done this on so wiping cache isn't going to do it even though I have done this already I am just unlucky. However there should be more information on this from HTC but there isn't and there isn't any real fix which is annoying will just have to wait until my next phone so I can be heard properly

Hi Guys I have the T-mobile G2 running stock software-hasn't been rooted or anything. I've noticed that the phone will stop audiable notifiations and vibrate on then for unknown reason. It does that eventually every time after reboot, the only way to fix it is to reboot the phone or if I receive incoming call it will resume the notifying and the vibration on the notifications again. It is rather weird and If you guys know what might be causing it or how to fix it please let me know. I know there are more people out there having the same issue. I wonder why is noone complaining about it?
Thank you.

I do not have such an option on my phone-I have the T-mobile G2 not the Desire Z-maybe there is a difference there in the options menu...I don't run the HTC sense version....
Root your phone, flash some DZ ROM and then do what i said before
Now seriously. Sorry, that was my bad..
Does anyone think this is an issue worth looking into? If anyone has the same issue please advise if you have found a way to fix it. It does look like software issue to me just don't know what is causing it....
Come on guys, does anyone have the same issue? Any way to fix that without rooting and using a custom ROM?
Help is appreciated...

This used to happen to me all the time... on a few different stock android devices.
Notifications would just stop working. NO sound. I would go into Handcent and do a "Test Notification" and there would be no sound.
Always happened after having the phone on for several hours. I just got in the habit of rebooting daily. Currently I'm on Cyanogen Mod and haven't noticed an issue recently.
But like I said it has happened to me on 4 android devices all running various versions of Android.. so I'm guessing it's an app combo that I have.
I'm on CM6 and this happens to me randomly too
Yep, mine doesn't vibrate on sms notifications. Vibrates for incoming calls ok though. I only noticed it a few days ago. Hmmmm,.... Using CM6.1
I see, I am also guessing it's software related just don't know what is causing it...
The strange part is that when I reboot the phone shortly after it will stop notifying me or vibrating on notifications and after I receive a call it will start working normally again-until the next reboot-it is weird...

Hi there Everyone, I do feel that this is somewhat of an issue,
I have HTC G2 t-mobile running Cyangenmode 7-10 Rc
My issue of no sound notifications started after I updated the Rom
I was running 2.2.1 now it is 2.3.4.
I keep getting DSP manager error, and this will pop up when I make a phone call or if I have an in coming call. (and I hear some static noise) that part is not as annoying as the fact
Some times during the week (when I am at work and need the phone to be quiet) I will get actually get sound, and then on the weekend I don't
Not sure what is going on. with this I have been looking on line to find a solution I have tried a few but still no luck, Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings from Moondaughter6
First things first, HTC Desire Z, I am in New Zealand on the Vodafone network in case that makes a difference and running bog standard Sense UI with no mods or ROMs or anything like that.
I have done a search and can't find anything similar anywhere except some asian sites, and I suspect (but hope it isn't) because the phone came from Hong Kong.
Ok, last night an update came through to my phone with the above code, I have lodged a query with HTC but no response as yet and figured you guys may have a better/quicker fix.
Essentially since the update came through the phone has been very slow and glitchy... stalls on background screen before loading app buttons, widgets, menus everything.
So I guess I want to know A: is this a legit update or is it some sort of hack?
and B: can I revert somehow to the last/correct version or am I going to need to install a ROM and start from scratch?
I appreciate your help and if you need any more info just ask.
cheers
Tis legit. HTC seem to be rolling the update worldwide, but very slowly. My dad got it in the UK last Tuesday, I'm still waiting.
His phone seems to be ok. If you're still having problems, try hard reset?
Cheers dude, ok at least that is one less thing to worry about
might give a hard reset a go
I've heard that once you do a update its always good to do a factory reset its like a pc you'll need to give it a good cleaning some time LOL try that

You'll find that if its provided through a carrier, they'll handle the software updates after HTC issues them to ensure their "value added software" or "crap" is loaded on it.
Saying that, mine is a UK SIM free from HTC and I still haven't got the 1.8x.xxx.x update, I'm at 1.72
Heya, I also have the Desire Z, bought from Hong Kong, use on Vodafone, live in Wellington NZ, and also did the update this morning.
Haven't noticed my phone running any slower yet but keen to see the improvements touted though. So far just seen little UI cosmetic changes.
Be sure to go into accounts and redo your sync settings, it put stocks and weather back to real time sync on mine...turned them off straight away.
AHHHHH that could have something to do with the hanging issue. I did a hard reset and initially it seemed better but then once I had re-instated my backed up data, contacts etc, (especially after I shut off the HTC messaging app, and re-synched my google accounts for some reason) it started hanging again.
Maybe the stocks (which I have banished) is trying to sync in the background somewhere? *wanders off to see*
It is a good sign that it is working on other DZ's, main issue seems to be on keyboard open/close events... so might just be incompatiblility with an app I'm running... god I hope it isn't Handcent
Ok, update time, redone the sync settings, removed anything that has been added in the last week or so in case I just didn't notice (unlikely but ???) the hanging problem.
oefox are you using Handcent for your messaging or the standard messaging app? i have removed it and that seems to have made a slight improvement although only very slight... this is driving me mad... may have to try another hard reset tonight and rebuild the data only and start again with apps.
Fake edit: HTC got back to me "try soft reset, hard reset... sorry can't help as phone is HK build, we have passed your query to them... they will be in touch" We shall see?
Actual Edit: Also seems to be destroying battery life all of a sudden, and it seems to think it has been off the charger for 22 minutes... which is odd as it came off the car charger 5 hours ago... hmmm.. definite issues here... looks like an actual rebuild may have to happen :/
You could try an app like Watchdog Lite from the Android Market to see if there is a process gobbling up your CPU cycles? It may be the cause of what's slowing the phone and draining your battery...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks for that, I have installed Watchdog Lite, removed a couple of apps that I thought might be a little bit problematic and I will stop playing with it for the day and how the battery reacts to "normal" use i.e. not constantly setting/resetting loading/unloading/deleting/syncing/unsyncing stuff lol... still seems to hang and whatnot though but we shall see.
If that doesn't help I will try a fresh hard reset and build from scratch (not from backup) and see if that helps :/
Call me uninspiring but I really like the default email and messaging. I have found after playing with it for a couple of days now that it will sometimes hang for a couple of seconds when returning to the home screen, shows the background but no icons for a few seconds.
On the plus side my wifi seems to have improved stability somewhat.

I did upgrade the firmware, but I didnt notice any improvement.
I mean everything is just fine
I thought that it would upgrade it to Gingerbread and Sense 3.0
I would be nice to have that version
Cheers
I have an HK Desire Z as well, and have experienced the exact same problem since the system update. I have not tried a hard reset because I'd rather not spend the time, but the home screen "blank and reload" issue is quite aggravating. I may have no other choice but to reset.
I will try waiting a couple days to see if somebody posts an easier fix.
Aha if you have a G2 wait till T-mobile gives it to us... we will be getting gingerbread
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Ok, good to see it isn't just me, it is definitely an issue and the reset doesn't seem to help much so if you havn't already done it don't bother localhost21. however I think I have found the main culprit and it seems to be the Google Maps updates that are causing the majority of the hanging etc.
if you remove the updates, i.e. go back to the standard version that came on the phone and it seems to make quite a difference so try that.
Unfortunately as i use the navigation function on maps quite a bit I kinda need to keep it so a bit of a catch 22. If you don't really need it though that should solve most of the problem... if any other fixes arrive let me know
Hopefully vodafone NZ give us the Gingerbread upgrade, or google brings navigation out of beta because it really is very good.
Edit: Still hangs, I have become a habitual killer of tasks which is nearly as annoying as the hanging, esp. if you have to open the task manager after it has hung, and it seems the processes causing the hang won't stay dead (auto-killed etc) *goes hunting for basic, stable, rom*
I encountered a new problem in that my notification sounds seem to randomly choose what to play when I recieve sms/calls so I did a hard reset but I still have that issue.
It also still hangs on the home screen if the k/b is open so hard reset doesn't fix this problem so I want to try a new rom
Has anyone done a root/flash yet with a HK Z?
I have a HTC Desire Z on the 2Degrees Network. I'm running Android version 2.2.1 Build numner is 1.84.708.1 CL322105 can I get an upgrade? Vheers.

After some digging, there's a whole Google products forum post on this issue. It's disgusting that Google won't acknowledge it, looks like it's a hardware issue associated with overheating and the 4.4.2 update.
Temporary solution is to use another soft keys app, but I'll have to ditch this phone ASAP, I'm out of warranty and Google will not fix something they caused.

As said by many peolple in the thread you posted, it clearly seems to be a software issue :
- problem appeared after an update
- screen zone is fully functionnal with touch input (immersive mode or landscape tests proves it)
as said by parveen75, try to flash stock rom from developer google site (with a version on wich you know didn't have the problem, ie 4.2 ?)

I will try that, but it seems odd that other people would have the problem fixed after a screen replacement, which would identify it as a hardware issue.
maybe the screen replacement method (used by repair services/centers) came with a reset/flash of the rom.
What is even more strange is that some people seem to encounter the same bug again even after a screen replacement.
Please, keep us informed if the flash method solved the bug.
I'm currently still on 4.4.2 (for development needs) and i'm worried i could face the same problem !
I've confirmed that it's a hardware issue and has affected a lot of users who updated. I cannot touch the area of the screen in full screen apps.
Google should be warned and issue a statement about this, this is very bad news for us users.
The fact that it works after a screen replacement with no software modifications is proof enough. Time to vow to never buy a Google product again...
Temporary solution

Hi, Okay so I am having a problem with the Nexus 4 microphone. It's not working for the following;
Calls
Voice Search
Video capture
Pretty much everything a mic is used for really...
The problem started persisting I believe back in 4.3 or possibly just after the 4.4 update, not entirely clear.
I have found a rather irritating fix for the problem, it's a silly fix but it's a fix nonetheless....as strange as it is if I plug in the usb data cable the mic works. Strange yes? If I plug in the usb cable and then unplug it the mic works for a little bit and then goes dead again. Even stranger yes?
Since the problem has occurred I have I have been running customs ROMS and Kernels, predominantly for the 4.4.4 update and nothing really less. The problem is still persistent, hasn't gotten worse in anyway...just persistent. Keep in mind I hadn't put anything custom on my phone until after the problem occurred.
So obviously this states that I have done factory resets, formats, flashes etc...
Currently running the latest Dirty Unicorn ROM with the PAGAAPS.
I have read a lot on the google product forums and some other threads around the place with others having practically the same issues. There is a lot of varying conclusions between it being a hardware or software issue with no real resolution though. Some have dissembled their phone and changed the mic and what ever other hardware they found necessary to change or try and fix....to also find that it hasn't fixed their problem.
Here is a link to one thread with everyone having the same issue, everything on there I have tried apart from doing open surgery on my phone.
Nexus 4 microphone not working Google product forum
So if this is a software issue for some phones, the problem could be solved in the upcoming update to Lollipop 5.0 which could be potentially awesome for me.
....if no resolutions happens from that, well then I'm stuck with what is causing the issue.
In conclusion notes; and in case the 5.0 update doesn't fix the issue, and in knowing that my small fix can be resolved with the data cable plugged in. Is there another fix I could try, with an app, rooted app, or with an Xposed module that anyone knows of that I could at least try? Any help in this direction would be much appreciated.

My N4 had a broken mic out of the box brand new lol. It was the latest batch, made in October 2013
I fixed it by getting a new mic because i diagnosed it wasn't a software issue
I ended up flashing "LRX08 B15.5S" from [L][5.0] Android L-pv N4 [B15.1 updated 10-27-2014] and I also put the "91u-a9: AOSP/L" Kernel from [KERNEL] [4.4.4/CM/(L)] [Bleeding Edge] Unleashed Kernel Series [91u-a9] [10/28/2014] Thinking there might be a chance it would fix my problem bringing it to 5.0 instead of 4.4.4.
I thought it worked all day yesterday without the data cable needing to be plugged in, I ran tests all day and it worked fine. Today is a different story though. I guess the data cable creates some form of initial connection the phone needs for my mic to work, and leaving it long enough it looses that connectivity. I'm not sure.
I don't have any intentions sending the phone in to get fixed, or repaired, as I'll be upgrading my nexus soon enough. I guess at this stage my fix is too cut the very end off of an old cable and have it in my pocket for incoming and outgoing calls. Anyone else have another solution?
Best Regards.

I recently updated my xt575 with the September security patch. Since then my microphone doesn't work only when making a phone call on speakerphone. Normal phone calls, audio and video recording, and voice commands all work just fine. I have tried booting into safe mode with no success, and then did a full factory reset and held off on downloading anything before trying again, still with no success. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know of a fix or workaround for this before I try contacting Motorola? Thanks.
P.s. I am on stock ROM on Att network. I use Android pay a lot so would like to avoid rooting.

Hello. I'm trying to solve my Moto's mic for over a week now.
I was trying many ROMs, but ended up using TruePureXMM ROM along with franken kernel.
It was all working fine, except some overall phone lag and constantly trying out other kernel auditor settings...
...untill about 2 weeks ago. Phone's microUSB port got damaged, and I had to return my phone to repair service.
After I received it back, I wanted to try out some Nougat ROMs, and tried couple of them, but found out that the mic isn't working properly there.
Decided to return back to stock, using this forums tutorials, done it without any single errors or problems in the process, I did many devices roms changes before.
It didn't help at all. The receiver don't hear me at all, the only sound they can hear is when I blow into the mic's direction.
*Note that when I change to speaker mode, the receiver hear me with some breaks in between, but it's the only way to call from now on...
I'm confused now, completely no idea if it is really the OS problem, or if it's just something with the microphone itself.
Looking forward for any tips, thanks for help.
