I was using TWRP. I wanted to install CWM recovery...So i downloaded the ROM Manager and asked it to Install recovery. Then i asked it to reboot in to recovery. Now my phone is not going in to recovery.
I tried going in to download mode and try something but my phone does not go in to download mode not does it start. It keeps going in to recovery and restarts and back in to recovery.
Please help me with the Recovery Loop. MY PHONE IS NOT STARTING. PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!
Today I attempted to install a ROM for the first time using ROM Manager. I flashed Clockwork Mod Recovery and then downloaded CyanogenMod and tried to install it (pressed Reboot / Install in ROM Manager). My phone then went into Download/Odin mode. It then didn't do anything for ~10 minutes, and after taking out the battery, the phone still went into Download mode. I got it to boot normally by pressing Home + Power + Volume Down and then pressing cancel when it prompted me to enter download mode. However, every time I attempt to boot into recovery, normally or ClockWork, the phone just goes to download mode. I even tried to do a factory reset, and the phone booted again into Download Mode.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks!

Hi all,
I am not sure whether this the right forum to post my query. It's been a year a since I bought my S4 (i9500) so O thought of rooting and installing recovery on my phone. I was on stock 4.4.2 and I was able to root my phone using the CF-AUTOROOT, but after that when i am trying to flash a custom recovery using Odin it ends up in the download mode. I have disabled knox after rooting the phone and my phone status is now custom and so I cannot get any official update. Is there anything I did wrong which is forcing the download mode to overwrite the custom recovery I am tryjng to install???? Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bobby Thomas.
Just boot into download mode. Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin and flash the recovery. That's it.
Thanks Lenny for your prompt reply, actually I did try that but after the manual boot it again goes back to the download mode instead of recovery mode....I even tried to install it through ADB shell but with no luck...I just goes to the download mode whatever I tried to do...
I was having a problem with the system trying to enforce the stock recovery every time I flashed TWRP through Odin. Turns out I got it by simply removing the battery as soon as Odin finished the job and restarted my phone. Waited for a few seconds, put battery back on and voila.
It worked for me. Do it at your own risk.
I also had the same trouble and had to untick auto-reboot, take out battery reboot back into download mode flash again. The first time I tried that it didnt work and the only way I got it to work was you Cyanogens windows installer, then went into recovery and flash the rom of choice.
What happens when you boot your phone, download terminal emulator from the market (or use adb) and type the following:
su
reboot recovery
A few months ago I rooted my N900w8, installed custom recovery (cwm), and flashed Android L. Today I tried to update the recovery, planning on updating the ROM as well. But now no custom recovery works at all, even the one I had running before. When trying to boot into recovery it says booting recovery... like it should, and then the screen just goes blank, then the phone restarts. Sometimes getting stuck in a bootloop trying to boot to recovery, but usually just regularly booting and boots normally to Android L. So now I am unable to update my ROM because not a single custom recovery has worked and therefore I cant flash the .img files. Please Help!

I had the same issue except when I try to load recovery it would "forward" itself to download mode.
This may work for you, try re-flashing the latest CWM update with Odin. Place your phone in download mode by powering it off and holding Volume Down + Home + Power. Press volume up to proceed.
1. Download and extract
2. Run Odin as Administrator (Download if you don't have already)
3. Select CMW file from your download folder and place it in the "AP" section.
4. Start
When finished, Reboot holding Volume UP + Menu + Power Button. Vola!
Let me know if this works for you.

Yeah depending on which recovery I flash it'll either forward to download mode, get stuck in a boot loop trying to start recovery, or restart and load the ROM.
Unfortunately it still isn't working :/ I used the tool from this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269) to convert the .img to a flashable odin file. Used the proper Canadian touch recovery (also tried recovery without touch) from this page (https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager) and no luck. Tried to enter recovery mode, it says entering recovery mode, goes black for a few seconds, vibrates then restarts the phone in regular boot mode :/ Any more idea's?
Do I need to be flashing a recovery that supports Android 5.0.2 for it to work? Im so puzzled.
YES!! Finally I was able to get a TWRP 2.8.5.0 working. Downloaded latest version from the main TWRP site and flashed using ODIN, did not use the converting tool above, downloaded the TWRP as a .tar flashable file from their site. Thanks for the help!
Do I need to close this thread or anything? This is my first time posting on xda

Congratulations on solving your own problem! ^_^
I just figured to share my part when i experienced the same issue. I feel like it has somehow corrupt itself after it finished flashing which results in an empty directory for the recovery mode.

then try flashing the recovery thru Odin, it will work, cheers
If you're stuck in download mode then just flash a new firmware and re root. Make sure you use the right firmware. Its not bricked just doesn't have an OS. Use recovery to flash recoveries. If not then use Odin. Apps fail at times and this is the repercussion
I have rooted g-7012 and i want to flash twrp recovery via odin. I followed all steps given in xda forum but it won't boot into recovery. It automatically goes to odin mode and says "could not do normal boot."

If you are in download mode why don't you just flash the recovery .. download the TWRP .tar file and flash it via odin

Bro, I have done flashing the .tar file. And the phone works normally but it doesn't open recovery mode. Whenever I try to boot into recovery mode, it says " cant do normal boot " and goes to download mode.
Ok that's right .. in your first post you wrote "want to flash"
Anyhow have you tried flashing some other recovery like CWM and then again flash TWRP. You should redownload TWRP tar file again.
Please don't click any other option in odin that are not mentioned
