How to enable Google Now on Android 5.0 Lollipop Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here are the steps to be followed:
The picture are attached in the post. I am new in this forum I can't post image and links
Step 1 :
Install any custom launcher. I installed Nova Launcher. Open the launcher and make it default.
Then clear Google Now launcher from Recents View.
Step 2 :
Install a Root explorer or file manager. Fx file manager worked for me. Also make sure you install its Root Ad-on for using root functionality.
Step 3 :
Download an older Google Search apk from the link below.
Search google for " Google Search-2.6.7.721924 ". I can't post link
Step 4 :
Rename the downloaded apk to Velvet.apk
Step 5 :
Go to Settings/Apps/All and scroll down to Google Search. Tap it and Clear data. This will remove all your settings for Google Now Launcher but let's not worry about it much.
Step 6 :
Open Fx File Manager. Tap on System(Root). Go to system/priv-app. Copy the Velvet folder and all its contents to Sd-card. Then go back to the system/priv-app/Velvet. Delete all the contents of that folder.
Step 7 :
Copy the Velvet.apk file you downloaded and renamed. Then paste it inside the system/priv-app/Velvet folder. Now Long press the Velvet.apk file and tap on Permissions. Make sure the permission is set to OCTAL : 0644 as shown in the picture below. You may be prompted to Mount Read-write, do that by tapping in the settings menu on top and select "Mount Read-write"
Step 8 :
Restart your device. Then open Google Search from app drawer. Then tap on Yes, I am In.
Step 9 :
Now open the Fx File Manager. Copy the contents of the Velvet folder you copied in Step 6.
Then go to system/priv-app/Velvet. Then paste the copied contents and overwrite the file. Then long-press the Velvet.apk file and go to permissions. Make sure the permission is set to OCTAL :0644 by modifying the permissions to look like the screenshot below. Likewise set the permission of 3 files in /velvet/lib/arm too OCTAL :0644. Then set permissions for folders(velvet, lib, arm) to OCTAL :0755.
Step 10 :
Restart your phone and VoilĂ ! you now have Google Now enabled in your Android 5.0 Lollipop running device.

is this valid in any country(eg. india) or only in google now available countries?? can i update google afterwards?

Smart Manager with Application Permission from Note 5

This is for those who wanted to have this function in their beast and yet no Note 5 rom is availble for their device , well smile..here you go
:good:Try at your own risk. I wont go in detail like step by step or what root explorer to use. You will have to figure it out. Im not trying to be mean but you will have to learn it =P
Your device must be rooted.
Download any rom that is made for Note 5 , custom or stock (make sure you ask for permission from the creator) , extract the folder "system/app/applicationspermissions"
and copy the folder (doesnt matter if is odex or deodexed) then paste it to your system/app/ and set the permission to the copied folder and the apk itself.
Then add the code below into your others.xml in you csc folder.
Code:
<!-- Smart Manager -->
<CscFeature_SmartManager_ConfigDashboard>dual_dashboard</CscFeature_SmartManager_ConfigDashboard>
<CscFeature_SmartManager_DisableAntiMalware>true </CscFeature_SmartManager_DisableAntiMalware>
<CscFeature_SmartManager_ConfigSubFeatures>roguepopup|autoclean|autorestart</CscFeature_SmartManager_ConfigSubFeatures>
Save , reboot and voila.
Bug
Nofitications - Block app notifications will FC.
Application Permissions - Sort by permission , will take some times to load the apps.
And it works , it does block what it offered.
Feel free to use
Thank you but nowhere i could got this foleder
system/app/applicationspermissions
can you please upload it.
Thanks in advance

[TWEAK] Fix gesture typing aosp keyboard

Edit : These files have been included in opengapps as swype libs. So, if you installed gapps, you don't have to follow this thread.
The current AOSP keyboard has a gesture typing feature but it doesn't work due to missing google libraries.
****YOU HAVE TO BE ROOTED****
In order to make gesture typing works, just follow these few steps :
1- Download the google keyboard apk, from apkmirror for example
2- Extract the apk with an archive manager like 7zip
3- Go to /lib/x86
4- Rename libjni_unbundled_latinimegoogle.so to libjni_latinimegoogle.so
5- Copy the 2 files (libjni_keyboarddecoder.so and libjni_latinimegoogle.so) to your phone, either internal memory or external memory, wherever you want on your phone, just remember where
6- With a file manager, on your smartphone, copy these 2 files to this folder : /system/lib/
7- Give rw-r-r permissions to these 2 files
8- Reboot your smartphone
9- Voila !
The gesture typing should work

[guide] free up to 1.75gb internal memory

So anyone with a phone that only has 8GB internal memory has a problem with the dreaded "Storage Space Running Message. The First problem is that the OS Takes up almost 5GB and the other is all the gapp updates take A LOT of space.
There isn't much that you can do about the OS size, there are a few items you may delete Bloatware, Garbage logs, and those dreaded pcm files(guide to getting rid of these w/o factory reset coming) but that only opens up a few hundred megs max.
It's kind of easy to do this but first:
FOLLOW THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT WILL WORK ON ANY ANDROID BUT HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON MY LG G STYLO(H634) RUNNING 5.1.1(10d)[I REFUSE TO UPDATE B/C GPS]
BACKUP IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO SO! AND IF YOU DON'T BACKUP ANYWAY!
YOU NEED:
ROOT!
A ROOT FIE MANAGER, I USED FX WITH ROOT EXTENSION
SOME KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THE ANDROID/LINUX FILE SYSTEM WORKS
A SAVVY PIECE OF PAPER TO WRITE DOWN PERMISSIONS AND APP NAMES
STEP 1: NAVIGATE TO /SYSTEM/APP AND /SYSTEM/PRIV-APP AND DELETE ANY BLOATWARE YOU'RE NOT USING, MAKE SURE THAT IT ISN'T AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE OS OR THAT CERTAIN SERVICES DON'T DEPEND ON IT!
STEP 2: COPY UPDATED GAPP FROM /DATA/APP TO YOUR SD CARD BOTH THE APK AND LIB FOLDER! E.G GMAIL, PLAYSTORE, CHOME,ETC.
STEP 3: GO BACK TO /SYSTEM/APP AND /SYSTEM/PRIV-APP AND COPY ANY PERMISSIONS AND FILE NAMES FROM APPS YOU'RE UPDATING INTO SYSTEM PARTITION
STEP 4: GO BACK AND FORTH ONE APP AT A TIME AND DELETE OLD VERSION LIB FOLDER AND ODEX FOLDER FROM /SYSTEM PARTITION.
STEP 5: COPY RENAMED .APKS AND LIB FOLDERS TO LOCATION OF OLD APKS, LIBS AND ODEX FILES. REMEMBER TO CHANGE THE PERMISSIONS TO THESE TO EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE BEFORE
STEP 6: GO TO SETTINGS > APPS > APP NAME HERE > AND UNINSTALL UPDATES
STEP 7: WHEN YOU'VE MOVED ALL APPS AND CHANGED ALL PERMISSIONS THEN UNINSTALLED UPDATES GO TO /DATA/DALVIK-CACHE AND DELETE BOTH FOLDERS. IF YOU SKIP THIS STEP APPS WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY ESPECIALLY PLAYSTORE
STEP 8: REBOOT PHONE AND WAIT FOR DALVIK-CACHE TO REPOPULATE
STEP 9: (OPTIONAL: ) SETUP LINK2SD OR APPS2SD FOR LOTS OF EXTRA SPACE
STEP 10: CHECK SETTINGS > STORAGE AND GET A BIG SMILE

Possible to change leanback home background from the green blood cell wallpaper?

Hi, I recently bought a 2017 shield and Im now running the latest Android TV but to my dismay I haven't been able to figure out how to change the background from the, in my opinion, tacky wallpaper of the green blood cells? Is this possible at this time?

This is not my work but here you go:
Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to change the default wallpaper on your Nvidia Shield TV? (And possibly Android TV in general, have to figure that out first)
Root required..
Step 1: Edit your own wallpaper image so that it is named nv_wallpaper.png with dimensions of 1920x1080. Don't just rename a jpg to png, convert it.
Step 2: Back-up the NvCustomize.apk file in the /system/priv-app/NvCustomize/ folder to a secure location. Or use a backup tool.
(Note that when you copy the file back, the permissions have changed and you need to change them back to chmod 644 (for the apk) and chmod 755 (for the folders, which you don't need to backup per se)
Step 3: Copy a second version of the NvCustmize.apk to a location you can access on your PC or an easy to remember location you can access with a file explorer. Not all file explorers let you write to the apk when it's still in the system folder. So copy it anywhere else.
Step 4: Somehow merge the new PNG you made with the NvCustomize.apk, without decompiling or extracting the apk. You can use Winrar, but DON'T extract it. leave the file intact and just copy the nv_wallpaper.png to the location of the same png in the file and overwrite it. Done.
You can also do this on the device itself, with some effort. I use X-Plore for that (in the ATV Play store). To open the file as a zip and copy the png inside that apk.
the correct folder inside the APK is: NvCustomize.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi-v4/
put the file there (within winrar or the file explorer on the device) and overwrite.
Step 5: Copy the modified NvCustomize.apk back to the /system/priv-app/NvCustomize/ folder and overwrite it.
Step 6: Check the permissions of that file. In X-plore you can long press the apk, scroll down and select permissions. There you must see 644 in the bottom right. Or all Read checked and one write (owner) checked. Owner should be root.
Step 7: Reboot!
Done.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, that certainly does help, but heavens is that convoluted for such a seemingly simple request.
