Hi,
It seems that my proximity sensor doesn't work with the Typhoon cyanogen mod (3.7.6).
Am I alone with this kind of problem or not? I haven't found the parameter in the setup menu... How can i solve this issue?
Thanks
The sensor is responsible for the Palm Motion (screenshot capture with hand gesture in front of the sensor) and the "Mute/pause" by covering the sensor, doesn't work for me ... I guess it's sensor problem, but It could be also software problem...
Anyway I'm on S4 I9500 (what they call Octa core) I'm rooted (Cofface root) and my Android version is in attached image.
I'll be happy if you guys can check if it works in your device... just go to:
Settings> My device> motion and gestures, then turn on the "PALM MOTION" toggle...
And if you make a gesture above the screen from right to left or left to right and the device does not take a screenshot, you probably also have this problem ...
I'd be happy if you comment here and update us.
By the way - what is Samsung's secret dial-up codes to check the sensors?
Thank you!
By the way, I found some schematics for the I9500 and I see that the left sensor is a light sensor and not proximity/gesture sensor... but anyway, I've activated all Motion and gestures toggles, but Palm motion still doesn't work!
Quick glance does work perfectly and also other Gestures and auto brightness, so I don't understand why the palm motion doesn't work if it uses the same sensors?

Any ideas?
Just so you know, I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to take a screenshot the "gesture" way and, unlike on the SGS3, it seems the side of your palm needs to be physically touching the screen as you swipe from left to right. At least it does for me!
Hi, 10x for your reply...
I tried all variations, but no luck... :\
And Palm mute/pause doesn't work too...

Palm mute/pause doesn't work for me either. Hardly any of the gesture's work well enough to be useful
hhmmm... this is so weird... I tried it on my friend's S4 and everything works great!
I think this is a software problem, I think I'm gonna download the latest Firmware and flush it via odin and check it again on stock version! maybe something messed up when I rooted my phone, or my stock firmware is not the latest one? (chek my attached image) does your device runs the exact same firmware as mine dose?
10x.:good:
Update!:good:
Ok I think I found the problem, for those who have that same problem, relax, probably the hardware is fine, As I assumed, this is a software problem (specific Build I guess) I dialed #*#0* in the Dialer Aoo and it's launched the device sensors debugger... and there you guys can check if the sensors are fine!
I suggest to check these particular sensors:
1. light sensor
2. proximity sensor
3. gesture sensor > Direction
and there you can verify if it's a software issue or hardware issue...
hope this helps somebody.
cheers!

That number doesn't work for me
Ooops...
My mistake, the right number is: *#0*# (star hashtag 0 star hashtag )
good luck !
Your hand has to physically touch the screen. Then both screen shot and mute work
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
AIR
Meltus is right. Your palm needs to cover the screen physically in order to work. As for the screen shot, the palm needs to physically swipe the screen

Hello,
i´m looking for a solution for my proximity sensor problem. After drop down and screen replacement, i recognized that the sensor doesn´t work anyomore like he normally should.
The problem is well known, but i didn´t want to tear my nexus down. With the app Proximity Screen Off Lite it was possible to disable the sensor, but now, after updating to 5.0 it doesn´t work anymore.
I tried lots of other proximity apps, but none of them are working.
So, can anyone help me? (Phone is rooted)
Greets
did you ever future anything out? i have a similar problem since installing 5
Hi,
i've always the pb of proximity sonsor or somthing in that field when i'm installing a custom rom of android 6.0, 7.0 or 7.1 such as (OptimizedCM-14.1-20161121-BETA1-AROMA, JDCTeam_jdc_jflte-7.1-20161117-BETA, MK60.1-jfltexx-201605070057-NIGHTLY)
so when i make a call, via messenger or my sim dialer, the screen turns off and won't turn on if i push power or home buttons.
so, what's the solution of this pb i'm suffering from, from a long time...
Does the phone work properly on a stock ROM? Did you try disabling the proximity sensor or disabling the screen-off function?

Yes, i'm now on 5.0.1 (stock rom) it works fine
how can i disable the proximity sonsor or the screen-off function?
This sure looks as a problem with the proximity sensor, the s4 is known for accumulating dust and grease on top of it. Open your phone with a small Phillips tool, remove it and clean it. It will work as new.
Don't think it's a hardware problem since the sensor works properly on a stock ROM.
Sorry, I no longer have an s4 and I don't remember how to disable the proximity sensor in a custom or stock ROM.
Hi everyone,
I own a Zenfone 3 ZE552KL that recently showed an issue with the proximity sensor.
It always returns positive, i.e. as if something is close.
I tried an application to recalibrate the sensor and I also asked a repair shop to clean the sensor itself but no luck.
Also, since the proximity sensor is soldered to the mainboard it's not possible to change it.
As a workaround I used the function from the dialer to set the screen always on during calls. However, after having moved to LineageOS 16 (with Android 9) I am not able to find the same option.
Do you know any workaround to disable the proximity sensor?
Maybe there is another ROM who gives you the possibility to set screen on during calls?
I will be happy to discuss and receive few suggestions on the topic
Thanks!
J.
