Since the first day of owning my Droid Turbo I've been waiting for the HD Voice feature. I had it on my LG G2 and loved being able to talk and use internet at the same time.
It looks like Santa Claus stopped at Verizon and we got our gift, HD Voice is here as of last night.
I have been checking my features often and last night I couldn't believe my eyes, HD Voice was available. So hurry up and activate. For those who doesn't know how is very simple and most important it's free. Go to My Verizon app- change features- Advanced Calling- HD Voice- activate- confirm- restart. Enjoy. Merry Christmas everyone!

What area are you in? Curious to see if this is on everywhere or if it will be rolled out regionally.
I'm in the Philadelphia, PA area and it was there for me this morning too, just checked.
I'm not seeing this option on my Verizon mobile; were you actually talking about the web based app?

I did it on line, not on my phone, but after looking again on my phone I don't see where to turn it on there. Guess this just means we are getting closer.
I live in philadelphia, pa and i did it through the app. I turned it on and i still cant use data during a call.

Same for me. It probably takes a while for the change to go through on Verizon's system but it looks like advanced calling is only HD voice/video calling. There is no mention of VoLTE in the app or VZW website

This is from Verizon Q&A: What is Advanced Calling?
Advanced Calling 1.0 is our first generation of services enabled by VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology. VoLTE is a new technology platform that delivers voice calls over our 4G LTE network instead of the traditional voice network.
The benefits of Advanced Calling 1.0 include:
HD Voice
1-way or 2-way video calls* (including support for video calls over Wi-Fi)
Simultaneous voice and 4G LTE data
6-way conference calls
*Video Calling requires a Video-Calling-enabled phone.
well i guess if i am in Italy and using Droid with another operator ,it won t activare VOLTE ,right??

Check under add features online.
OK folks here's the info you can go ahead and do what you're doing or call and have it enabled but we're still waiting on a update to make it all work.
So this is only useful for other people that have this activated on Verizon am I correct?
I can also confirm that as of this morning, I was able to enable HD Voice / VoLTE from my Verizon business account page online.
It said I needed to wait until I get an email confirmation that the feature was added, which I havent recieved yet. But at least the option to add the feature is there now, it previously was not.
edit- Confirmation email just recieved. Going to reboot phone and see if this works
I too, was able to enable it on both my lines, which was previously not an option yet am unsure how to see it actually function..
I went online and clicked the HD Voice option. A pop up window came up telling me what I should do on my phone, but my blocker sent it away and I can't retrieve it. Anyone know what setting I am suppose to adjust on the phone?

Hello,
I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, and from some reason, the carrier I bought it from, installed their own ROM and removed the Phone function from the tablet and I can't dial, only use the internet for browsing, so I was wondering, is there a way to bring the phone function back?
Thanks !

because of some tax issues, some carriers remove the phone option, when the device has cellular phone calls options, it a "phone" and not a "media device" or "computer tab" and the amount of the tax that the carrier (and you) need to pay goes higher, so they remove it to keep the price fair and not to start **** with the government office that in-charge on the mobile phones.
you always have the option to install stock rom with the phone option, it WILL damage your warranty and its on your own risk.
good luck!

Thanks for making it clear! I know I'm a bit late  but I forgot about it.
In order to install stock rom you have to root it first right? is there a guide to do the whole process? (rooting + installing stock rom on galaxy tab 2 10.1?)

or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number
or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number, thats what I did on my wifi only model, it would use your data plan instead, and works great, that way you could give your google number to all the gumbahs and your real number to the real folks in your world. Their are a number of apps that you can use and they work seemlessly with your native app and I had great conversations on voip with no noticeable lag.
Their are a number of 3rd party apps that intergrate with google voice, sign up for the service first, I made a deposit on it years ago and make and take calls on it, no problem, with no charges. If they leave v/m the service transcribes the voice mail and sends it to me via email, which is very nice option, along with spam/call block type features it beats the hell out of what the LEC's offer.

Google gives me a phone number and I will be able to call other phones? or it is more like Skype or Viber - that I can call to people with Skype or Viber only? will the people I call to need to pay something?
**Edit : I searched for "Google Voice" in Play Store but I didnt find it, I think it's not available in my country.
I guess I will need to root and install stock rom, is there a guide for doing it on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1?
So is it possible to make VoIP calls on a wifi only model? Like with GVoice over an internet connection? Or is there a better app?

When they get it. Isn't it rolling out starting now? I know that it won't happen instantaneously but once they get it, I am interested in knowing if they get the option of enabling VoLTE with a non-Verizon branded device on their line.
Nope haven't heard or seen anything about the n6 being pushed yet
I will flash as soon as i see it. I will try my best to remember to post back...
What exactly do you want me to test? voice and data at the same time?
Please grab the zip before u update. If its a staged rollout it would help others update sooner

Thanks, first you have to enable VoLTE on your line. So after you get 5.1, you would follow the instructions below to enable VoLTE on your line. It's Step 5 below that I am interested in - does a non-Verizon branded device show up as compatible with HD Voice feature?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/advanced-calling-faqs/
You have to remove any incompatible features from your line:
Ringback Tones
Slacker Radio Tones
Caller Name ID
Company Name ID
Then you:
1. Sign in to My Verizon.
2. Click Manage My Account and select Manage Products & Apps.
3. Click the Get Products tab at the top of the page.
4. Click Get it now to select the product or service you wish to purchase.
5. When the checkout window opens, choose the compatible devices you'd like HD Voice added to.
6. Click Confirm Purchase to complete the checkout process for the selected devices.
7. Click OK on the confirmation screen. If applicable, a free text message with a link to download the app from the App Store will be sent to the device/s you've selected.
There is another way to do it on certain Advanced Calling 1.0-capable devices (such as LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, and Motorola Droid Turbo). These phones allow you to get Advanced Calling 1.0 right from your own devices. Simply follow these steps:
Go to Settings.
Tap Advanced Calling under WIRELESS NETWORKS.
Tap Activate Advanced Calling and follow on-screen instruction.
You've successfully added Advanced Calling 1.0.
Business customers: You can add the HD Voice feature in the My Business Account portal as you normally do or by contacting your company's Verizon Wireless administrator.

Did you have another HD Voice capable device on your line before the N6, like a Droid Turbo or an iP6?
I want to know b/c I want a white N6 and if there were any problems with VoLTE on the non-Verizon branded N6, I would opt for the Verizon blue one. Please let us know if you can do simultaneous voice + data when you update to 5.1, thank you!!!!
Just a FYI... I just went into my account and it shows that HD voice is compatible with my line (n6 from moto). I've had the n6 for a couple months. I was able to set it up through the account but obviously won't be able to try it until 5.1. But at this point, I'm feeling pretty good about it working right out of the box when 5.1 drops.

I have a Sprint N6 rooted on Verizon and I'm wondering do I have to unroot my phone to be able to get the 5.1 update so I can get VOLTE?
I can't find the option to add HD Voice to my account. Could this be because I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan?

Verizon Business line
I have a Nexus 6 on a Verizon government/business line. I'll follow up after Android 5.1 drops and let you all know if I get simultaneous voice and data. My line has unlimited data. I am not able to manage my account, so if a feature needs to get added, I need to get my business office to set that up.
I believe VoLTE is coming as standard in 5.1 regardless of carrier. We may be able to use it in custom ROM anyways.

It may be necessary for VoLTE.
According to the release notes HDcalling will be included in Lollipop 5.1 so we not require to flash the official one. Not 100% sure it will work with VZ tho. We'll see.

Hey everyone, I got my unlocked Note 8 yesterday and have been using it with a T-Mobile sim card. I spent a bunch of time trying to get the built in video calling to work and I finally got it, so I thought I would post a guide so the next person doesn't have to do the leg work.
Here is what I did, and I can now call other T-Mobile users via dialer based video calls: (the one down side is all numbers show the video call option, even if they are not T-Mobile customers, the calls just turn into audio when the other person answers)
1. Download Shortcut Master from app store (Light version works, but it's a great app, support the dev if you can)
2. Open the app and go to the menu (three dot's top right) and select app explorer
3. Scroll down to IMS Settings and select it.
4. Scroll down to ImsSettingsLauncherActivity (last item on my list) select it and hit launch.
5. Select IMS Service Switch and under that turn on everything on that screen. (For me most things (especially RCS items) were disabled by default, but when I looked at a friends S8+ settings they were all on so I tried that and all works now.)
6. Make video calls!
That's it, you should be able to make video calls from the dialer now.
Hope this helps someone! Thanks to the app dev and everyone on here for all the help I have gotten over the years!

As far as I'm finding on XDA, we'll need to flash the CSC from a T-mobile device to get this working. When I googled it, I found this thread in the S8 forum with a utility for switching CSCs but I am not sure if it would work for the Note 8, and in my case really not sure if it would work to flash a Tmobile CSC (Snapdragon device) on my Korean Exynos model.
Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ility-flashable-csc-selection-v1-0-0-t3605264

Interesting, good to know and thanks for the info. I won't be getting the unlocked one, I'm getting the international version for rooting so we'll see if it works with that. Sure hope it does because tmobile reception is abysmal where I live.

Hi All,
I recently bought Unlocked Galaxy S8 SM-G950U1 and activated on Sprint, after the activation, the phone downloaded some software and rebooted, it does have WiFi calling enabled, but when I call using Wifi and I walk out of WiFi range it doesn't switch to carrier and disconnect. Also when i am not on WiFi, it uses carrier network, but the internet is not available. I googled and find there is new feature called "Calling Plus" from sprint for Galaxy S8, but I don't find it on my phone. Can someone please guide me on how to download it? If this update is not available for unlocked version of S8, can someone point me to a ROM which provide these features?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like "Calling Plus" is their name for VoLTE (voice over LTE). I'm not familiar with Sprint but generally this is enabled in an IMS settings app or menu.
If you download a shortcut cut app, do you see an app called IMS Settings that can be launched?

I use Shortcut Master (lite). With its menu you would choose App Explorer and see if you have IMS Settings app. If you do, that is probably what you need to launch, and basically just enable everything within it.

ok I did some digging and Sprint says this on their website:
Is Calling PLUS the same as VoLTE (Voice over LTE)?
No, the current Calling PLUS solution provides VoIP capabilities using the Sprint LTE network. Sprint is on a path toward having an all IP-based network capable of supporting VoLTE. We have not announced a timeframe for commercial deployment of VoLTE. Today we offer HD Voice on a very efficient CDMA1x platform and our voice network is ranked #2 nationwide by independent mobile analytics firm RootMetrics. We will transition customers to VoLTE when we are confident we can match the great voice experience provided today.

I am thinking this is the same with T-Mobile Wifi Calling where you have to have some underlying apps/framework to have the feature available
Since you are on the stock unlocked firmware, this is probably absent.
The latest Sprint firmware I see on Sammobile is this one from December 2017
If you are not yet rooted you can just flash that with Odin, and use the CSC app (launched via Shortcut Master Lite) to switch the phone's CSC to SPR, though this will wipe the internal storage.
If you are rooted, you would need to find a ROM that is made from/for Sprint I believe.

Sorry for late reply, so right now best solution will wipe my internal storage... thanks for replying... If I have to wipe storage, I would rather root and get some nice rom.
Guys, I found a way to make VoLTE calling work on my unlocked s8 plus.
1. In Nova launcher add widget -> Activities
2. Add LTE Test -> click VoLTE Test UI-> turn on first 2 setting.
3. Add Enhanced LTE Services and select this option.
4. Restart and enjoy.

HOLY S***~!!! It worked~!! You're the MAN~!!!! :good::good::good::good::good::good:
I tested it out on my 955U1 Unlocked GS8+ on the latest Beta 7 Oreo software.
I am glad it worked. I was literally jumping at my cube when it worked too ?.
to sharmajay: tried to use your trick. Was able to find #1 and #2. But on #3 it only shows blank screen, no check boxes, nothing, blank screen.
I'm on AT&T network running 7.0.

So this worked for me on Oreo beta 7 on my unlocked G955U1 but not after downgrading to Nougat stable ROM.
Anyone managed to get this work on Nougat?

I'm not seeing that option. Should it be there beforehand, or does it show up at some point during the process?

There is the options beforehand, but you need to search by following the process nova launcher-> add widgets->....
Based on previous posts ,I am not sure if nougat doesn't have those options, but oreo/beta definitely does.
Quick Note before you start this - If you are on stable one UI 3.x / Android 11 or greater, see the bottom of the post to see the workaround. Thanks to @knuschit
Introduction - If you have ever bought a device that comes locked with the carrier you will see there are some carrier baked features missing in unlocked devices. While putting in your sim will change CSC of your device you might still not get all the features. So far i fail to understand why would device makers and Carriers make it so difficult for users. I have scourged through so many forums and found info like these where a t-mobile rep responds saying there is no way those features can be added to non carrier branded device ( Either a blatant lie or the reps are ill informed or both).
My Device - Unlocked SM-N986U1 with tmobile sim - CSC - TMB/TMB/XAA
Problem Statement- I want Video calling over LTE and RCS features.
Solution - Follow the steps carefully and also see the attached screenshots -
There are other ways of doing this by creating shortcut to ims service settings but i am posting something that most users can easily do.
Quick Pre-Check - Before starting if you have been using RCS on Google Messages you might want to de-register. Follow the process here: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat.
You can always activate it in case you want to go back to RCS on google messages.
This will only work if you are on Android 10, or the Beta version of Android 11. Samsung has blocked this on Stable Android 11.
STEPS1. Download and install Phone app (By google)
2. Open the phone App that you just downloaded and make it your default Phone app.
3. Dial *#*#467#*#*
4. You will see the settings as in my Screenshot 1
5. Tap on IMS Service Switch (The first Option)
In case you cant see the screenshot - Just tap on the first option IMS service Switch, Then make sure MMTEL Switch and RCS Switch is toggled on.
If you see below RCS Switch there is a section titled MMTEL
Sub-options of MMTEL are
VoLTE
VoLTE-Video
VoLTE-Call-Composer
SMS over IP
Supplementary Services
Called Dial Third Party Number
JUST TURN ALL THESE TOGGLES ON
Click to collapse
6. See the Screenshot 2 and move all the switches to ON.
7. Go back to main page and then go to RCS Configuration settings and make sure they are selected to be always on as in Screenshot 3.
8. I changed back to default phone app after this.
9. And done you should have the video calling over LTE to fellow T-Mobile users activated now.
I have already made a few calls and tested it and can confirm that this works. This might work for Sprint too.
NOTE THAT - Default video call on contacts is still duo. you have to make a regular voice call to a contact first then you will see the native video call icon.
These settings wont stick after OS/Firmware update via Odin, OTA or Sideload and steps would need to be repeated.
Edit Update -You can See all three screenshots together here.
Let us know how it goes here and if you explored any more settings and i will update this post with due credit.
WORKAROUND: SINCE THE ABOVE METHOD IS NOT WORKING ON ONE UI 3.X / Android 11The conventional method doesnt work on Android 11 so use the method below:
1. Install Alliance Shield X >> Create account and Give necessary permissions
2. Open Alliance Shield X settings and toggle New App Manager Layout On
3. Look at this post and follow
4. See the Screenshot 2 and move all the switches to ON.
5. Go back to main page and then go to RCS Configuration settings and make sure they are selected to be always on as in Screenshot 3.
I can confirm this works.
ADDITIONAL CONFIRMED INFO FROM USERS / TROUBLESHOOTING
Try the following step in case you had RCS activated on Google Messages and doing the above steps does not get you RCS in the Native SMS App. Thanks @Compusmurf

What specifically has to be on to get native video calling? Got RCS using this method from another post, but video calling still uses duo.

I have swited on all the options but for Video you mainly need VoLTE, VoLTE-Video and VoLTE-Call-Composer to be toggled on.
Also this site is further compressing the pictures hence you guys cant see. when i get time i will upload to some pic sharing site.
I have an unlocked phone from EE in UK and this doesn't work for me

The default on contacts will still show duo. Make a regular voice call and then you will see the native video call icon wait i will show you as you can SEE HERE
As soon as the person answers the option to toggle to video is activated in the first row center icon. Let me know if that is the same for you and works.
It used to be a call hold icon earlier before we toggled the IMS settings.

I don't have the option to make a regular video call. After I place a voice call, the native video call button appears on the dialer screen with the active call, but it's greyed out.

The other person needs to have that option too (Why not just call me), JK sorry dont know how to help you here. if you know someone who got S8, S9, S10, S20, Note 8, 9, 10 or 20 phones directly from TMobile call them and since they would already have it yours wont be grayed out anymore.

I have a U.S t-mobile branded phone (AT15 ; Sep security patch)and use the Samsung stock messaging app. I have been hoping for RCS to be enabled but that hasn't happened yet. I know google messaging has this feature but I prefer to stick with my current stock samsung messaging app. Will following your method help me in activating RCS? Thanks!

Yes it will and i can confirm i checked and it is working. I see when my friend with RCS activated is typing. So typing indicators are working a big sign that RCS is working.
To verify before you do any of the above steps open your default Samsung SMS app and go to settings by clicking on 3 dots on top right, do you see an option called 'Chat Settings' if not, once you have gone through the suggested steps above you will see chat settings activated meaning RCS working.
Also, might add. IF you were previously using Google messages, then you do this, you probably will have to UNREGISTER from Google Messages for Samsung Messages to pick up RCS.....

Thanks for confirming.
I did all this a week or 2 back to mine and my granddaughters phones.
I didn't do any kind of writeup because this info has been out there in the wild, just not overly shared because there are other options in that menu that can wreck your phone experience.
Glad someone did.
(Note to folks, don't go randomly changing things here if you don't know what they are and haven't been validated by others)
Since you did so good here, you should write a document for folks how to "update" using FRIJA and ODIN for folks with U1 devices. Maybe that'll cut down on the folks that complain that they can't get Month X security update because Carrier Y is slow.
I know how, but writing a document step by step isn't the same and I'm very bad at documentation.
