I have been looking at improving the way notifications are displayed on my S4 and there are many apps out there e.g. iphone notifications which require a service adding to the accessibility settings. The issue is when you enable a service in there then you get partial TTS throughout the phone e.g. when browsing the internet you get page loaded speech etc.
Looking around the web this is apparently a bug with Samsung firmwares although I have not been able find a work around for stopping the TTS whilst there is an accessibility service enable.
The talkback service is disabled all its settings inside are disabled and driving mode is disabled. I would rather not completely disable voice by freezing the samsung TTS when rooted as I would like to use the voice commands.
I have the same issue - and I'm mighty PO'd about it.. I'd read about it affecting a lot of people with the S3, but I was lucky enough for it not to have happened with my S3.. Unfortunately my luck didn't hold after the move to the S4, and I get the verbal notifications in the stock (Samsung) browser. I tried all sorts of combinations of turning on/off Talkback before/after enabling/disabling the accessibility services that I want enabled in the hope that it would help. It didn't. I ended up disabling the 2x TTS services entirely which was something that I really didn't want to do. (And one of them wouldn't let me disable via Application Manager - I had to freeze it with Titanium, so had to be rooted to work around the issue.
For this to be a known issue with the S3 and to have made its way onto the S4 is ridiculous.
Have you noticed it happening anywhere else, or only in the browser? Browser is the only place that I noticed it, but I didn't really give it a chance to happen elsewhere before trying a bunch of things and then reluctantly disabling TTS.

I have do this same procedure. Do you have notice that with this, the air view don't work correctly on the email and that the upper and lower windows on the stock video player and gallery don't close anymore...

I have only noticed the TTS showing up in the browser so far but I haven't really explored far with it on as it does my head in.
Some devs have raised this with samsung here:
developer.samsung.com /forum/board/thread/view.do?boardName=GeneralB&messageId=232642
This is from iPhone notifications app page from PlayStore:
*** Samsung devices users with Talkback/Keyboard/AirView issues ***
* If your device is reading aloud some of your actions, note that this is a bug in Samsung's OS occuring with any accessibility service, here is a fix : http://www.productigeeky.com/faq#1
* You can follow the progress on this bug with Samsung : http://developer.samsung.com/forum/t...ices/77/204387
Just read the thread. So pathetic on Samsungs side.

Agreed.
Looks like Sammy was in a hurry to get S4 out.

Google should revoke their license till they dont fix **** like this. Developers just cant stop supporting Samsung devices when Samsung has most of the Android device marketshare.
Hi there!
I've put together a spreadsheet of apps that are (or so far seem) safe to remove from the Nexus 5. Note that I am running 4.4 KitKat, which has been unlocked with TWRP and rooted. The spreadsheet comes from the combined efforts of hallstevenson's spreadsheet on the Galaxy S3 for Spring (which I adapted and updated for the Verizon version), and referencing MoJo's script for removing Nexus 5 bloatware. I used Titanium Backup to go through and type in the packages and APK names.
CLICK HERE FOR ACCESS TO THE SPREADSHEET [GOOGLE DOCS]
Click the "5.1" tab.
If you have questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, or want to tell me exactly where I'm wrong about something, please leave a comment here! If such a list already exists, I couldn't find it through searching. And if I'm in the wrong category, I apologize; seeing MoJo's script here led me to think this would be the appropriate place.
**UPDATE FOR LOLLIPOP 5.1**

Updated for Lollipop!
I'm back with an update! You can use the same link above. Note that this time I've added a tab for Android 5.0 Lollipop. (There's also a tab for what I believe is 4.4.4, which I started and didn't finish... Sorry!) Again, I'm on a stock ROM from Google's firmware page, and I used Titanium Backup (v 6.2.0) to go through this list. I had a couple of app updates after flashing the new ROM, so the version numbers might not quite match up. As usual, let me know if there are any issues, or if you've figured out if an app can be removed that I've left blank. If you're going to be adventurous, it's best to freeze an app and test rather than delete it, and make a backup before you delete.
Enjoy!

Can we get rid of Google+ and still be able to have a photo gallery?
I tried freezing it and I couldn't access my photos because I had to enable Google+.

Not sure. I'd think the Photos app would still work, but maybe not. I actually use Google+ on a constant basis so I haven't removed the app.
You deactivated the exchange services, so do you get any emails with auto synchronisation ? Or are the exchange services only for the E-Mail app, which isnt working on L anymore?

I removed the email exchange services because I do not use them. I strictly use the GMail app. I imagine they still work fine!

Bump for 5.0.1 update (see original post)
Hey, I am a tad bit confused here..
I currently have two Exchange Services.
1) com.google.android.gm.exchange
(ver. 6.5-1520254)
2) com.android.exchange
(ver. 4.4.4-6936)
I'm sure the second one is the one I can delete but was just unsure about the first one.

The first one is the one I have marked as safe to delete. I don't know what the second is, maybe something left over from KitKat? Try freezing them with TitaniumBackup and reboot, see if they give you any issues. If they don't, make backups and remove them.

Okay, I didn't think this would have much to do with it but I am using Slimkat 4.4.4, so I didn't think to look in the 5.0 tab. I shall see what happens when I freeze the other EServices.
Thanks for the reply.
Edit: Well, I have backed-up both Exchange Services and removed them both and nothing seems to have changed *Shrugs* Ahh well.

Well, generally speaking, you should be looking in the tab for your current Android version. (Or as close as your custom ROM gets.) The list is based on a fresh install of the ROM, so if your apps have updated since, they'll show different version numbers and possibly different locations, too. Something I didn't think to include in my post, sorry!

Well I flashed the ROM last week, so anything could have updated. Anyway, thanks for the help. I just wanted to have an opinion on the random system app first before I went ahead and removed it.
Cheers.

The first works with gmail exchange second is for email app exchange. Should be no issue deleting both. I use 1 and delete 2.
Do not remove g+ on lolipop if you want photos to work. They are linked
Noticed after installing Nougat on my Verizon S7 Edge that the files listed for the Note 7 workaround are now available. Only problem is, using quick shortcut maker doesn't seem to work as it had with Note 7. Makes the shortcuts fine, but obviously they don't work.
Also checked sammobile for the cloud apk file. was from 3 months ago, downloaded and tried to install. Upon doing that, phone said it was an update to my current program. Then said it could not install. Which leads me to believe we have the correct files, but Verizon still has it locked down?!?!
So my question is, has anyone found a workaround yet? Or does this mean that Verizon is "considering" giving us Samsung Cloud finally?
Verizon removed it completely.
Thanks for the quick response. I was just surprised to see all the files available to use the shortcut maker on. Guess I was kinda hoping that Verizon would finally step up and give us Samsung Cloud. Oh well.
Verizon will never allow for a service like that, because they don't make extra money off it.
I'm still surprised that they haven't figured out a way to prevent Google Maps from working on their network as well, so they can force everybody to use the for-pay VZ Navigator.

That she would be my last day with Verizon and probably a class action lawsuits like they did to cable providers over forcing cable boxes.
Hey guys,
So Google claims that Google Assistant won't make it to tablets, but I would love a tablet that I can hang on the wall and just use it with my voice for remainders, shopping lists, etc.
I was just wondering, since Note 8 has a GSM module, would it be possible to maybe port a Note phone (4, 5) ROM to it so Google thinks it's a phone and get the Google Assistant?
Thanks!

Well to be honest nobody will make a port of a rom like that... I assume the CM firmares will work.
I have a ported tab4 SVoice and it does what you specified very well, but I find talking outloud to take memos or do tasks not part of my routine. Though google and amazon have devices like that already.
I am sure someone will back port it to run on tablets... though google and amazon are the least wanted options on my tablet or talk to device.

I really want to get Google assistant working on this tablet and would love some advice and guidance.
Thanks
Google assistance worked fine on my note 8 including voice command, but it has stopped working now all suggestion noted and tried but has not fixed this problem.

Happy to try anything new, help would be appreciated.
Just picked up an Essential yesterday. Someone on Reddit claimed that most recent OTA fixed Gear S3 compatibility. This is only partially true. Here's what I've found:
Working:
-installing apps
-installing 3rd party watch faces
-updating watch firmware
-connect via Bluetooth
Workarounds:
-Samsung pay - install this: https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=Samsung+pay+gear
-No notifications - install this: https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=Gear+plugin
Everything works now, enjoy guys
have you received every update? Including the latest build and the essential apps from the play store??
I have the Fit2, notifications always worked for me, but installed apps and watchfaces started working last week
That's odd, I receive notifications on my S3 just fine. Samsung Pay still crashes for me as well.
Yeah, from what I've read Samsung Pay is the only thing not working still.
Sounding better. I saw somewhere the S3 was not working so I have not even tried mine yet. Using my Fossil Q Marshall at the moment. I really miss the screen on the S3.
I'll try factory resetting my gear S3 to see if I can get notifications working. Tried playing with settings, but couldn't get it working. Will report back later tonight.
Notifications definitely do not work on the gear S3. Factory reset the gear S3 and still no notifications at all. Have fingerprint gestures, so definitely on latest update.
Update: got it working! Downloaded the latest Gear Services apk from apkmirror and everything works! I installed Samsung pay apk from apkmirror and that works too! Everything works, woo!
The links don't work for me did anything change?
You can search and they show up on apkmirror. Also for the brave you can get text messaging to work with any text app on your phone on the S3. It takes a bit of work but I did it this morning and it works. You have to install Tizen studio and an apk on your phone. The apk for the phone is in the thread so you do not have to build it with android studio though. I used a guide in the thread for the pixel to get it to work for me.

Thanks for this! Samsung pay works great now. Haven't tested it on a purchase, but was able to install, add my cards, access it on my S3, and initiate the payment process!
is there a way to get Samsung Messaging and Notes?
S3 Gear Currently Incompatible With Android 9.0
Samsung is working on a solution, but the S3 Gear currently lacks the ability to connect to any device running Android 9.0. In the meantime, I simply connected my S3 Gear to my old S7 Edge phone & set up all the stand alone features before officially retiring the phone. Until Samsung fixes the problem, I'm able to use Samsung Pay, make calls/sms (assuming you have separate line setup), and use basic watch functionality without any problems.
Samsung, hurry up and fix Android 9 break!
I'm having trouble connecting Gear Fit 2 Pro on Android Pie. I tried Gear Wearable & Fit2 Pro plugin but still not working. Any help?
I don't use my watch for "a lot". Mostly notifications. I've never used S-voice, although it does work and I have used it to talk on the phone once. Haven't used Samsung pay but it is set up. Guess I'll have to try it.
Anyone else not able to get Samsung health to recognize the watch and capture it's steps?
here works all fine on stock pie rom also on cm pie ROMs I had np with gear sport etc

Thanks for this.. btw the old Pay link is not working.. Now the app is called "Samsung Pay (Watch Plugin)" https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/samsung-pay-watch-plug-in/

After installing Pay plugin, I was able to add the cards, but once I closed the app, I could not find the app anywhere? Can someone please help me how to get this app show up inside Samsung wearable? I am using PH1 with latest Pie release. Samsung customer care basically said "Your phone is not officially supported for Pay".
