Hello!
I had previously rooted my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 using towelroot and everything was fine. However, I recently received an alert from AT&T stating that a new update was available. I currently have 4.4.2 and from this forum, it sounds like the update was for 4.4.4.
I went to download and install the update, but when I did so, the update failed and my root was removed. I cannot reroot using towelroot nor can I get the update to complete, it just resets at about 25%.
I'd like to install the update successfully and possibly reroot, although root is a lesser priority. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this problem?
Thank you.
Do you have a recovery installed? Just flash the SuperSU from recovery, reboot and install binaries. Problem solved.

The process is lil bit costly. I was all afternoon looking for it . I think this is the solution:
1. There is no official firmware file for NC1. You will have to flash the NB1 file first then apply the update to NC1: HERE
2. You can root your phone and have the latest update for your device. How? Follow this GUIDE.
3. Enjoy
It's easier for my device, I guess. If I flash a rom that doesn't have root access, I just flash the SuperSU zip in recovery and reboot. Unlocked bootloaders make it sooo easy to mess with the phone

Thanks, things are good now!
I followed the instructions for your step Step 1 spelled out in detail at

and I was able to update to 4.4.4 successfully. I haven't tried to root my phone but I'm not sure if I really want to so everything seems resolved.

I have rooted my G2(D802) in stock rom.
Will I still receive Official OTA update?
1. you will, but the device will refuse to install it because it's rooted
2. you will, the device will install it and your phone will only root to recovery (if you have custom recovery)
those are the only scenarios I know of.

Yes the update can sill show up and after ignoring it a couple of times it will force itself to install and either a)if you have custom recovery you will bootloop and if you were using twrp there is a way to remove update or you will need to go Back to stock, b)if you have modified system, installed xposed or removed bloat it will refuse to install because those are things that can only be done with root and so will give message won't update because it's suspected of rooting and there are ways to make it so that it won't update but I don't remember

I'm rooted NE9, I tried unrooting, un freezing, uninstalling SU, Busy box, Xposed and Safestrap and it still fails to install 4.4.4. Is there a way to flash it via Safestrap. Or any tips on what I am missing for the OTA to work?

I had the same problem after unfreezing I unrooted through supersu and tried to take the OTA but it failed so I followed all the steps suggested by "open1your1eyes0" http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/vzw-ota-4-4-4-pushed-t2872220/page2
had to flash NE9. Something bizarre happened when I tired towelroot in chrome (it started opening multiple tabs like 20 tabs within a few seconds) so I installed dolphin and rooted through towelroot and everything worked out pretty well. :good::good:

The best, and easiest, thing to do is wait for the 4.4.4 ROM to be released and flashable. Then follow whatever instructions given at the time to flash the firmware. It's only a matter of time now until we get the full tar release.
I have CWM installed, but I am running stock, no root. I got the 5.0.2 update today and told it to apply. Didn't pay close enough attention on reboot, was asked something about applying something in recover and don't remember if I said yes or no, then prompted for adding root (both of those were in CWM Recovery) and I know I said no to root. After the reboot I was still running 4.4.4.
So I guess I am ready to just manually download and install. Can anyone help me make sure which thread I should be looking at for instructions? I just feel like I have looked at everything and am not confident I am doing the right things. Can I just download the image linked in the Stock OTA URLs thread, then install from recovery?
Installed CWM without Root? :/

I used towel root to root my S4, and I somehow allowed an auto update, which downloaded the updated, tried to install but failed. But I lost my root.
I am running 4.4.2 - Kitkat right?
So I don't have root, and I cannot update my phone - Is it possible for me to root it again? If so is there a link to instructions?
Thanks in advance, the DoridForums people sent me here -

I dunno what you are running.
1. You can take a look in your Settings - About device (Pic attached).
2. Try again Towel Root if you still running android 4.4.2 for root again your device.
3. Tell us how it works.
* You can download OTA udpates but you can't install them when you are rooted. Root your device modify system. It changes of OFFICIAL to CUSTOM. OTA detects it and give you a error when you try to install the update.
Ok attached is my about phone info -
I just tried towel root again, and it says this phone is not currently supported. So again, thought I would see what my easy options might be.
I can't post an image or links, Android version says 4.4.2 - If that's what you need? If not let me know which number you need
Use CF-Autoroot to root instead of Towelroot. While CF-Autoroot requires the Odin software to use, it's far more consistent in its results since it temporarily replaces the existing recovery with a recovery that will install SuperSU into the /system partition. Unlike Towelroot, CF-Autoroot is version agnostic, meaning it will work regardless of the version of Android installed.
There is an entire thread on CF-Autoroot. Hit the search bar at the top of the page and I'm sure you'll find it.
I own the 6GB Ram version of the phone and wants to root it so as to use Titanium backup to restore all the contents of my previous phone.
But the Problem is that we are still going to get some big OTA updates regarding camera and maybe more bug fixes.
I know the general procedure for rooting the device i.e. first unlock the bootloader then install a custom recovery then root.
I just wanted to ask if I just install back the stock recovery after rooting the device then will I get the Ota updates?
And I am sorry if any similar question has already been asked, I searched but didn't find any. Thanks

i assume you know how to get root ? unlock bootloader, flash twrp, install magisk or supersu ?
well from there its just the same.
getting ota updates see attachment.
after the update you are back to stock recovery without data lost.
so just flash twrp again and install root again, thats all.

1. Unlock Bootloader and Flash TWRP
2. Flash and Download APK Magisk 13.3 (Root + Pass SafetyNet)
3. If there is a new update go to OnePlus 5 Downloads
4. Boot into TWRP and Flash the new update.
5. Everytime you flash a new update you must also flash Magisk Root.
6. Done
Should we flash twrp recovery and root zip right away after flashing full ota package??

You don't have to flash twrp recovery again.
You can flash a root zip right after flashing the full OTA package
