[Q] Note 4 System FPS? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying the Note 4 at different stores, the system UI feels obviously like 30FPS.
I'm wondering if there's a way to change it to run at 60FPS or maybe the store models had a setting turned on like battery saving to make the FPS low?
I've seen on other posts from different phones that you can edit the Build.prop to change the system FPS. Anyone know?

Marshmallow and Always-On 4K

Since Marshmallow supports 4K display at all times on the home screen, etc., it seems that this phone could do 4K all the time.
I've read that some believe they won't even turn it on for Marshmallow because if the CPU/battery drain.
Two questions:
1. Does anyone agree or disagree with this? Maybe it will at least be a setting (in developer options)?
2. If they don't turn this on for Marshmallow and it runs like Lollipop on "Full HD", could a custom ROM enable permanent 4K? Or rooting? Would this even be possible?
Thanks!
Bet that you will return to FHD mode when you look at the battery anyway. Plus most icon resources inside apk will almost certainly stick to xxhdpi (around 480dpi) which won't bring any advantage on 4k screen.
I don't care about battery life. Anyway, does anyone have any answers/guesses to my questions?

Well to answer your questions :
1. I disagree as per my answer, it is just not viable for the battery life and plus iirc when i read marshmallow changelog, it only states that it supports 4k but doesn't say anything about native resolution and apk resource resolution addition, the changelog only specifies that it is natively supported but in an upscaled way.
2. If anything, nothing is impossible. But not everything is viable.
Doing QHD at all times and 4K during media is fine by me.
Do it Sony.
I hope via root is possible.
About battery life, I have nice battery packs that maintain the charge for the whole day .....and I suggest any intense user of smartphones having one o more too
Marshmellow comes with native 4k support which will allow developers to turn on 4k on demand.
I don't see a reason to have the the 4k display always on unless its for gaming/movies/viewing high res pics.

I agree the screen should be 2k and 4k when needed.

Try it
try this if it works.

What if Sony can let the user decide which resolution their phones wanna run.
Like windows in a separate setting under display user get the ability to select the resolution.
People who don't care 4K they can use FHD and if they like 2K they can have 2K , if not 4K all the time.
But by default gallery and movie apps upscale the content to 4K. I think if they can pull that off it'd be so cool.
Yeah, should be offer 2 modes in display setting, quality and battery life.
4k is already possible! thanks to the guide from the previous post lol, I was able to take a screenshot of my phone running in 4k using a different screenshot app

But the important one is the dpi though. The 3840x2160 means it's physical pixel count isn't it? But when you look at the density it's obvious that it's still 1920x1080. Cmiiw though.
Are there third party apps that run in 4k mode?
Netflix? Ultraflix? Riptide gp all run in 4k on my shield tv
As hansip87 said.
Also running 4k all the time will increase the phone warmth in hand - try it yourself while watching a 4k movie for an 1h30min
I think it's great that it's possible to run at 2k and 4k all the time but for me it's Battery life others is screen quality /viewing pleasure
After performing the wm size and wm density as shown in the thread fesar posted earlier in this thread, I stumbled upon a few problems that persisted even after restoring to default.
You can read more about my rather bad experiences in the mentioned thread.

Hey which app did you use to take the screenshot with when at higher dpi? Thanks
I changed the resolution to 2K ,and changed it back after half a day ,cannot bear the battery drain

Display size option and games

Wondering if anyone knows whether using the smaller display option impacts game performance? I am not seeing noticeable difference by eye, but I assume the option changes the dpi and this potentially could effect games much like going from 720p to 1080p would on a pc.
It does not affect the resolution so only the system UI is different. The one-hand mode does not affect performance in any meaningful way either.

Pubg mobile

hello guys
I want to ask you a question about Pubg mobile
I play the game on S7 edge
Why don't I see the trees on the ground when I'm on the plane? I watch a youtuber who has iphone 8 plus and I noticed that the trees are shown when he's flying
Is there any problem in my phone so I can't see the trees?
The problem is that you're asking this in the wrong subforum here. Better post this in your device specific QnA forum or the relevant section to your topic from next time,ok?
But I'll answer anyway - the difference is due to the different settings. Most likely the iphone8+ had hdr settings so that shows a higher level of detail VS (my guess is )that yours being on Balanced or lower.
I play PUBG Mobile everyday with my friends and one of them has the iPhone 8 Plus. The details on his phone are much higher, the standard graphic setting for his phone are HD, but he can play using HDR option too. His phone is just newer, also features a more powerful GPU and CPU. That's why he probably see more details and stuff while parachuting.
I am rooted and running Norma Rom with MoroKernel 4.6 (the best version in my opinion). I play PUBGM using PUB Gfx+ Tool which allows you to manually change many graphic options. I am able to run PUBGM at HD and HDR too at 1600x900 resolution with shadow settings at minimum level tho. It stays stable at around 30-35 fps, but after a while the phone starts heating like hell so obviously the frame rate drops.
That being said, try to play using PUB Gfx+ Tool. You will notice a considerable increase in your game perfomance.
I don't think that when HDR is allowed then you can see the trees while parachuting because the note8 hightest settings are like the s7 edge HD with High fps ... HDR is not opened option .. however on note8 you can see the trees
about gfx tool, I use it since a long time on smooth extreme and the performance is amazing .. there is no log

What is the problem with this LG G6 game lag?

Hi all,
Just swapped my Huawei nova 3i for a Korean version LG g6 with quad dac.
Went home and updated the software, ran the benchmark, all looks good.
Downloaded my fav. Game Mobile legends and this phone just lags too much. It doesn't matter if I use high low fps or high low resolution, it just simply lags. I hVe tried all the developer options settings but still it lags....
I believe it has something to do with the software as the benchmark comes out just fine... Any ideas what can I do?
Ok this is what I have noticed,
During game, if I click the minimize button (square) and then click again on the game, the fps becomes super fast..... It last for a few mins and then again lags... And I have to do this process again.....
I think it's something to do with the ram management
You can disable game management app with ADB
You'll need to enable 4x msaa in order to get those stable frame rates in qhd+ or fhd+ res with high frame rates. If you reboot your device then you'll need to redo this in order to get those fps stable. ML:BB must have the high graphics & high quality display settings switched on.
P.S. Battery life will take a hit so play in fhd+ and turn off hq display. Set fps on all possible parameters to high, i.e., game settings of phone and in-game settings.
The phone will charge but rather at a snail's pace, if u play while charging. I have done that for hours and I still get about 5 hrs of SoT on normal usage from full charge.
Launch attack!

If that doesn't help, then set the DPI to 417 and try. I run pubg with 444 DPI and 4x msaa. HD graphics, qhd+ res , high fps and anti-aliasing enabled from the game's settings. It runs smooth till 144 ms ping. Beyond which I experience frame drops.
One full charge, with 4G+ and Bluetooth enabled, lasts somewhere between 1:20-1:50 (hrs:mins) depending on ambient room temperature and handling.
ML:BB might be able to use the HDR capabilities of the phone with the high quality display settings turned on.
This is purely based on my observation of the game online and I might be incorrect.

Hi can you please explain how can I do this? I have the Korean LG g6 no root. And will it make any difference?

Hi,
I have already tried doing this but there is no difference for me. The only big difference is when I minimize the game and then click on it again. It gives a massive boost in fps for few mins then I have to do it again.

If you see no improvements from changing the DPI settings between 240 & 720, then I doubt there's anything else that you can do other than take matters into your own hands.

I have set it to 320. That's the lowest if will accept. But still no difference. The only thing works is minimize the game and click it again time after time... It's so annoying man. Also noticed that by with the highest resolution and highest settings, the game still runs smooth if I keep minimizing it which makes me believe the hardware is well capable but its some software bs which is screwing with it

After you receive a software update, try factory resetting the device, then setting the DPI to something between 540-570 with 4X MSAA. You will have to enable the latter every time you reboot your phone or deep clean the apps.
It worked for me. Hope it helps you too.
Cheers.

To see how 320 DPI differs from 560 DPI, just restart the phone and try to notice the loading and execution of the boot animation with just these two DPI values. I noticed that the boot animation is the smoothest around 555 DPI, while 320-450 has stuttering effect on the boot animation. I'll need to diligently test the values for optimum performance and battery life.

Download Activity Launcher from Google Play and enter the word "High" in it.
Same discussion on Note 10+ forum... This is an option that does not apply to anything but the s20 series of phones. Note 9/10/10+ don't support 120hz refresh rate, hence it is not in the settings but hidden in the firmware...
Just a lazy bit of coding by Samsung who decided it was easier to hide it than to remove it from phones firmware that don't support this refresh rate.
you think is not possible to enable this option with custom rom because im sur this screen support 120hz refresh rate at full hd+ resolution my old aquos phone 5 years lcd screen can support it at full HD resolution i just need to enter infos app exemple nova launcher and check case high speed lcd and apply i think we need add this option on custom rom ty
The hardware doesn't support it. You might get a few extra hertz but you won't see 120hz refresh rate... If you do then you are experiencing the placebo affect...
It's not possible to get 120hz refresh rate on a 60hz screen unless the screen actually supports 120hz refresh rate. Seems a stupid idea to me to include a higher refresh rate screen (with the additional cost) then NOT capitalize on it as a feature to buy this phone over the competitors, especially as people wanted this...
I tested with a camcorder to see the refresh rate and still the same 60HZ.
