Fastboot installing things went kinda wrong.. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I would like some help. I made a mistake with installing system.img via fastboot and it was the wrong file so I tried to abort it. Then I installed the good system.img but now google now launcher crashes and all the contacts and the whole homescreen is gone etc. I could see the devices a minute ago with all the files on pc, but now not. Strangely I could get in the folders of the phone but they were all empty, but it was still shown there was 500mb free as before. Any ideas how to recover all of his files, whatsapp etc and recover the phone. Can't find a fast solution. But my brother has to leave soon so i need a quick fix where I can still keep his files.
Thanks in advance!!
Phone is on android 4.4, I was trying to make everything stock aigain to update to 4.4.2 and then 5.0

Might have soft-bricked my Exy S7 Edge for good. Need help/confirmation.

So... let's get this straight, i am an idiot. I played with fire and lost to it. I did some things i should not have done with my basic Android/root experience.
Here's what happened: Rooted my Exy S7 Edge today and everything went fine. I had hopes of somehow fixing SD-Card write permissions, which annoy the hell out of me in Marshmallow, but nothing really worked. I then stumbled upon a tutorial to modify the platform.xml located in /system/etc/permissions/ adding permissions. I made a backup of the file and started adding things suggested by the tutorial, restarting my phone several times. Nothing changed anything about the SD-Card permissions, so i gave up, didn't go back to the backed up platform.xml though.
Shortly after, i wanted to copy some files onto my device via usb and my Windows machine suddenly saw no files on the device. Nothing in the "phone" directory, and nothing in the "card" directory. I managed to copy the files via the FX file explorer web access feature and went on to connect a bluetooth device to my phone. I wasn't able to turn bluetooth on.
Rebooted the device and still had the exact same issue with bluetooth. I fired up FX with root access and went back to the backed up platform.xml, because it started dawning to me that something went majorly wrong there. I deleted the modified one, renamed the backup back to platform.xml and rebooted.
After the reboot, nothing worked anymore. I was able to get past the lockscreen and see the launcher (Apex Launcher) but i kept getting crash popups from basically every single app and service on the device. I wasnt able to run a single app, except for the "my files" app from samsung which showed nothing on the device and, and nothing on the sd card and the settings app. I then factory resetted the device in recovery mode (data wipe; cache wipe), because factory resetting it from settings just gave me a samsung service crash popup.
Rebooted the device and still have the exact same problems. It gives me the samsung startup wizard, but i cant get past accepting the license, because as soon as i agree, i get multiple crash popups and it goes back to the license page.
I assume this must mean that i somehow disabled read (and/or write?) accesss to pretty much every partition on the phone, is that right? Is there anything i can do, or have i softbricked the device for good? I don't really know a lot about using adb, and also enabling usb debug mode in the settings is pretty much impossible right now.
I am very thankful for any help saving my baby.
I would try downloading a stock image for your specific decice and flashing through odin.
I soft bricked my phone trying to flash the UK firmware. I fixed it with Kies, under Tools > Firmware Upgrade. It gave me a warning but I ignored it.
Just flash a new rom, u'd be fine !
Phew, thanks a lot guys Just reflashing stock worked perfectly fine. Didn't think it would be that simple.
Point to note - soft brick is usually something you can come back from providing you can get in to download and recovery modes. It also implies a device won't boot to the OS at all. So saying you ate soft brick permanently would imply a hard brick.
Hard brick is a non bootable device with no access to download our recovery mode without the use of a jig.

Boot Loop of Death after 8.1 Update. Is it possible to backup from recovery screen?

After my bone stock Huawei Nexus 6P (on Google Fi) got the OTA Android 8.1 update this morning, it shortly thereafter went into what I now understand is the Boot Loop of Death. This subsequently kicked my day off into Nexus 6P education. So TLDR, I've got a BLOD device. I can boot into recovery mode., but that's it. No other functions work other than "Power off". No recovery mode, etc. (everything else goes into boot loop). The phone is bone stock as was from Google. Not rooted. Bootloader is locked.
In the mean time, while I'm in the middle of hopefully getting warranty support from Google or Huawei, I've since replaced the phone with another store bought 6P. At this point, I simply need my data off the phone that wasn't included in my "restore from google" backup on the new phone. Files, images, video, sms text messages, etc.
Is it possible to boot to recovery mode, and then connect via abd and pull files off the phones internal storage?
Any help getting pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
I'm surprised your text messages where not backed up by Google. My last two restores from Google returned all my texts and phone calls. Are you running the same Android version that was on the boot looped 6p? Anyways not sure about the stock recovery but I know if you unlocked your bootloader and flash TWRP you could. However believe that wipes system partion so by by text messages but pictures, videos and downloads should be safe. Maybe someone else will chime in with some alternative methods. ?

As I understand it, if I were using Hangouts for sms messaging, it would have backed up. I was using the sms app instead. Unknowingly this was not part of the restore.
Same android version on the new phone as what was pushed to the one that is now boot looping.
I don't know (remember) if I unlocked the bootloader from the settings menu. I was hoping to get some expert opinions before charting down the adb path blindly.
Still reading / trying to figure out if that's something I can do.

It was Android messages that Google restored for me maybe you didn't select it to back up or missed it in the restore options. Either way I hope you are able to get your important stuff best of luck mate. ?
Scratch the request. After a rather long argument with Huawei, the device was returned for a full refund.
So I learned a few things about my backup strategy, a hardware manufacture, and Oreo 8.1

Suddenly stuck in boot loop (official rom, unrooted)

So i was simply updating youtube through google play, and messenger through messenger it self and suddenly the phone went into boot loop and can't get it out.
opening recovery mode is hard but when i managed to do it, it simply shows the android icon and installing system updates then restarts again. (tried it ~4 times). thanks to that i can't try clearing cache or any of that stuff on the list that is supposed to appear in recover mode.
trying force restart also does nothing.
trying to remove memory card and sim also didn't work.
i read that flashing HOME_CSC from a rom could fix it but the rom websites i know offer limited sizes and speeds and i don't have a strong internet which ends up timing out, can someone help me out? G935FOJV2ERGE is the one i need.
if you have any other ideas that can help, i would also greatly appreciate it, i really don't want to have to buy a new phone atm, and don't want to lose all my data because i don't used backup services cuz they ate up data .
edit: I am on latest official rom, only used OTA updates, haven't rooted the phone.
edit 2: i managed to get a different region's rom and flashed it's home_csc file, and force restarted it and seems to have worked booted, then it started doing it again just 1 second after that. i didn't even have time to unlock it.
edit 3: managed to get into recovery mode list once, wiping cache didn't work. couldn't get into recovery mode again after that. then i gave up and tried flashing a full rom. still the same problem.

Help my phone is trapped in system emui.

It is nothing to worry about, i'm a ROM developer who is very familiar with EMUI's layout
It usually means the /version partition has been wiped ( this is nothing to worry about though )
or if it was a EMUI based rom you tried to change to, it means the /version partition flashed by this ROM does not contain your specific model files
What ROM were you trying to change to?
i have just managed to fix mine with the same issue(assuming you have an unlocked bootloader), i flashed the recovery from the following link, which allowed me to install files from the internal storage https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RgerdkXY-B-8XV5buloeCyKYrA2B3Bvf/view
then downloaded each of my firmware files using firmware finder and placed them on my internal storage along with HuRUpdater_0.4 and then install via the HuRUpdater_0.4 zip file and all is done]
Search for MT Firmware finder

Zenfone 3 contacts recover

Hello... So i'm no expert on this but i normally do my things searching on google. But this time i'm in a real fix in here. My phone entered an infinite boot state and won't complete it. I've tried many things and so far nothing has worked. I decided to format my device but first i wanted to back up my data. I was able to recover all my data folders, pictures, everything. But i need my contacts, since i have many important contacts that i can't lose i went searching for a way to recover them. I've read on the internet that there was a way to do a TWRP backup and then unzip the data.ext4.win000 and data.ext4.win001 and search for the contacts.db2 inside the com.android.providers.contacts. I did everything right but inside my com.android.providers.contacts there is nothing. I'm wondering if maybe its diferent for the ZENFONE 3, and maybe the contacts.db2 is stores somewhere else but i just can't find. I'm sure all the data on the phone is completely untouched. I also have access to TWRP Recovery (device rooted). Can any good soul out there point me out a way around cause after researching and failing for 2 whole days i'm starting to lose hope.
Many thanks in advance!!
