Note 4 Wi-Fi sleeping or slow until reboot - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a stock (not for long) Note 4 N910F from 2 weeks.
Sometimes I have quite annoying problems with wifi that maybe also cause problems on battery side.
Apart from battery, I'd like to first understand why these kind of issues affect my Note 4:
- if I am connected to a known wifi network, It may happen that when I take the note4 from my pocket, it is no more connected and it is not able to automatically reconnect until I enter the wifi settings activity);
- sometimes the wifi speed terribly decreases under 1/2mbps down and up with ping over 100ms and I can't even download something from playstore in human times or watch a video on youtube without buffering. I have just discovered that by rebooting the phone the issue is solved ...but for an undefined amount of time.
Is there something in particular I can try?

Im also infected with slow wifi. Tried full wipe, different rom (official), different 5ghz router and still have this issue. It looks like problem occurs only on Qualcomm devices. Yesterday i've sent email to Samsung and waiting for response.
There is no problem on my other devices (pc, both laptops, galaxy s5, galaxy mini 2, galaxy pocket, galaxy spica, htc wildfire).

Did you try rebooting your phone? Does it work again like I reported?
There must be something software side that get stuck somehow.

I told You I tried everything. Full wipe, different rom, different router and of course phone reboot.
Im afraid its not software but hardware issue.

I think we have a different problem then, since I temporally solve just rebooting.
Furthermore, when WiFi is really slow I am pursued by an aggressive battery drain.

Summary of known issues with Galaxy S

OK so from what I can gather looking at this forum and various stuff on the web the issues with this phone are (not in order of importance)
1. UI lags. However, this can be overcome via a 3rd party launcher and some 'Nand' hacks? which pardoxicallly means limited app memory again !
2. The GPS is unreliable. It can be fine one time and refuse to lock on another time?
3. The WiFi connection is also unstable for many users?
4. The battery life is not very good out of the box but improves after a few recharges? However, its still difficult to get a full day if using it heavily?
5. Samsung have a poor record when it comes to updates. There is no guarantee when / if the phone will be updated so it should be bought based solely on the features it has today?
Have I got this about right ? Anything missing or just wrong ? Are there any known fixes for issues 2 and 3 above.
Please note this not an attack on the phone I am considering buying and, as much as possible, I want to understand upfront what the issues are.
Don't forget Kies is rubbish and there's no apps for Android on the Kies marketplace, despite what the manual says.
If you are on a Mac (and presumably Linux) you have to enable USB debugging mode to be able to mount it as a USB storage device.
1 and 2 applies to my phone and I must be having a memory leak issue. My available memory drops pretty steadily throughout the day even after killing all the apps with a task manager. I need to reboot once or twice a day or the phone dips below 100mb. My guess is this is also the cause of the laggy UI.
My gps is quick to get a fix but it drops often for no good reason.
The wifi has been flawless for me, I'm on a 802.11n only network.
My battery is ok, not great but not bad either.
I still love this phone and I would buy again even with these minor annoyances.
Wifi wont reconnect when waking up from standby mode...(sometimes)

1- pretty minor problem IMO, i don't bump into it a lot. Let's see what samsung will do.
2- From what i see, after upgrading a firmware the problem is solved, in most of the cases.
3- Seen reports, but i didn't bump into problems with it even once.
4- After comparing with a nexus one, an HTC desire and a motorola milestone, i can clearly say that currently, after 5-7 charges, the SGS has the best battery in the android market.
I manage to squeeze over 3 days of moderate use from my device, or 2 days of heavy use.
5- I can't really say anything about it, samsung does have a poor support record for it's devices.
I'm running firmware XXJF3
1.Lag) applies to me, with any launcher. it's ok most of the time, but when it happens it is very annoying.
2.GPS) No problems so far. Not using it much for navigation, thus. Just for stuff like checking into foursquare and buzz.
3.WiFi) No problems now. I had a strange problem with wlan not working at all at my first day with the device, but I did a factory reset once and since then I never had any problems with networking anymore.
4.battery life) Everything just as with the nexus one or G1: I need to charge it at least once a day, unless I do not really use it.
5.update support) It's annoying, and it's a shame. But except for the nexus one, there are not really better alternatives with better update support out there. At least here in Europe. Motorola and HTC and Sony all abandon their devices after a few month as well.
We can only hope that Samsung thinks this is something that is worth doing better than in the past, and better than the competition currently does. Or that building custom ROMs based on upcoming Android Versions on the Galaxy S is not going to be as difficult as psychoace thinks.
If Samsung fixes the blackout/lag issues soon with a new firmware, I'm going to keep the device. Most of the time it is a great mobile. I even like touchwiz 3.

1. Yes I get lag. Very irritating on the supposed "most powerful phone around". On original jf 3 firmware though, but will surely try the new rom from modaco as I don't think I could live with this in the long term.
2. Only time I tried to use google navigation, it let me down badly.
3. Generally been ok but for the first time today I had wifi icon but no internet connection. Had to restart phone (toggling had no effect).
I've had other issues as well, complete lock ups, mass storage randomly not working, and other weird seemingly random behaviour.
Overall, so far this has been a frustrating device to live with. Things can only get better I hope.
Latest firmware seems to have solved almost all of these "problems"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718621
Latest firmware released today solved the lag problem.
Not sure about the others. never had problems with the GPS.
Wifi connection was solved 2 firmwares ago

[Q] Odd signal issues

Hi everyone
I am not sure if it is really nexus 4 or android related, however, maybe someone can point out something to test or analyse this further. Maybe even has the same issue.
Therefore I am already thanking all of your for taking the time to read this.
I am on nexus 4 with 4.2.1 (Baseband: M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.33, Kernel 3.4.0-perf-ge039dcb, build JOP40D).
I had the samsung galaxy nexus before (with a normal sim card) and went to the shop after buying the nexus 4 to get a (new) micro sim.
I dont have apps that "optimise" the battery life or such and may tamper with the signals (at least I dont have any to my knowledge).
Problem at hand:
WiFi signal is perfectly fine. However, whenever I go out of range of a WiFi the "normal" GSM signal is not taking over...it shows bars, but they are grey instead of blue. And whenever I go online then, it says I am not. The only thing I can do is either reboot (which I did only once so far for resolving this issue) or airplane mode on and then off again. After that I am connected again. I am not quite sure if phone and messages would work and only "internet" is affected.
Does anyone experience the same thing? Anyone an idea what that could be or what I can further check/test to verify?
Thanks a bunch
scheuri

[Q] wifi scanning continually on s4 even though already connected to a network

Hi,
I purchased the s4 through radio shack 4 days ago. I was having issues with the wifi staying connected for more than a minute. After doing research and reading forums I came to the conclusion it was my router. I've reset it and done firmware updates and changed security to WEP and wifi issue was resolved. However now it is constantly scanning for a wifi network even though it's already connected to one. Have called samsung and radio shack sbout this and am getting various responses such as it is normal, or no it is not normal let's try a a hard reset to see if it fixes the issue. So this forum is my last resort before completely resetting the phone. Should wifi be continuously scanning even if connected to a network or not? Thanks

Mine still scans for Wifi about every 4-5 seconds even when connected to Wifi. It seems to be normal and believe it did this on my S3 as well. Unless it is draining your battery I wouldn't worry about it. Also, it may only do it when you are in the Wifi settings and not when you exit but who knows. I get great battery life so it is something I'm not going to worry about.

have you asked if it Is normal? Im pretty sure the scanning is affecting my battery life but but not
sure how to check whether it is or isn't. Just dont want to find out months down the road that I have a defective device. Will resetting it fix the?

I have not asked because my battery life doesn't seem to be affected by it. Also, I think my S3 did it also. From what I find when doing an internet search everyone else is seeing the same thing so almost positive it is made this way. When I look at the breakdown of battery usage (Settings->More->Battery) Wifi is only using 6% of my battery. Look and see what is using battery on yours. If you need more detailed information on what is using the battery than get BetterBatteryStats from Play store to help pinpoint it. There is a forum just for it where you can post and get help figuring it out if need be.
Also, as for resetting, I just did a factory reset yesterday and it still scans when in the Wifi settings.
The scan interval is probably cooked into the build.prop somewhere by Samsung. Usually apps like Blade Buddy and Rom Toolbox Pro can change it but BB is not compatible yet with the S4 and Rom Toolbox doesn't show the scan option in the build.prop list. I looked at a few of the custom TW roms and not finding any changes to that listed in any build.prop tweaks.
If I had to guess would say there is something else on your device using the battery but using BetterBatteryStats can pin point it for you.
**Edit....From what I am reading it seems there is nothing in the build.prop to edit. A line needs to be added in to change the default scan interval. I'm not 100% positive on this but seems to be the case.

OK I've looked at battery usage and and wifi is at b 4% and screen has the highest percentage eventhough I have it at a lower resolution. However when I click on wifi from the battery setting it says it has only been connected to Wifi for 4hrs. 32 minutes . I've had wifi turned on since I got home last night. Could that be the issue? I did charge the phone overnight unless it shuts off while charging but still my emails would have to sync every hour. Do you know why it would say it's only been connected for 4 hrs if I've been home much longer than tgst? Thanks for the help. And also did you reset your phone due to the wifi scanning?
THANK YOU

I don't know about the reported length of time for WiFi. Mine seems to be accurately reporting when I connected to WiFi this morning at work till now. Maybe it disconnected and then reconnected for something? Do you have multiple bands in your home (2.4ghz & 5ghz) to where it could have jumped between them? Did you walk outside and out of range for a sec? Maybe for some reason it had a hiccup and got disconnected and reconnected. Not sure.
Also, I did a factory reset for a Play Store issue and not because of the WiFi.
Wifi scanning every 5 seconds on my Galaxy s4
Jellybean 4.3 has been responsible for one of the highest complaints to hit android since androids launch.
Wifi overscanning
Battery management
HDMI Completely not working
The list goes on, this is all because some idiots wanted to rush jellybean out to accommodate for the introduction of the Samsung Gear. As a result of rushing it's release many elements were not tested or even included in the update of our much loved now screwed galaxy s4 's
Someone better get there act together and roll out a TESTED release to address all of these screw ups!

When this post was made 7 months ago, the S4 was on 4.2.2 not 4.3. Way to revive an old invalid thread. Also, all the things you mentioned work great on my phone so calm down a little.

That's funny because as a senior member, your reply seemed neither helpful nor relevant to what I said about the Galaxy S4 being affected by the latest Jellybean 4.3 update (whether I posted on an outdated thread or not) The subject matter remains relevant because the Wi-fi over-scanning while connected is still very much a current issue.
Many users have complained about the numerous errors currently being recently experienced in the latest 4.3 update, many of which have now been announced on the Samsung support forums. I'm in the UK and I see you're in the US. that in itself could make a hell of allot of difference in the errors that UK users may be experiencing. I'm also on T-Mobile and that could also have implications to the version of Jellybean subversion that has been installed.
Telling me I should 'calm down' (just because you're not experiencing any issues with your phone) is not the sort of condescending remark expected from any senior member.

CM13 G900F Bluetooth problem

Hello.
I flashed Cyanogenmod 13 two days ago. When I connect to my BT speaker it has lag, loss, skipping. The problem is more notable when I am streaming radio on WiFi and less on mobile data. When I am using the phone the problem is bigger especially when trying to see BT menu.
Some minor problems that I experience is that I can't answer calls with home button?!?
WiFi drained the battery yesterday and the phone was warm. After restart it went OK.
I guess I should forget about heart rate sensor on this phone but CM13 is so much faster than stock rom that I want to stay on it. Also the notifications now are working correctly. On my touchwiz all were staying on phone no matter checked and cleared from PC (skype, messenger, gmail, etc.) The BT problem is my biggest one.
I'm sure I've read it's a common issue with CM and Bluetooth at the moment. Personally never tried CM on this device yet because of its limitations like no MHL support.
Thanks. Actually I did a mistake upgrading to the last nigtly while thinking there is a snapshot before. Anyways it should come.

Tutn off wifi and buluetooth works normally
I have the same problem when I listening music.. Try click refresh you can hear more lags... Like cd scratch.

Problems I have with my Huawei P8 Lite

1. Battery
2. Sometimes when typing outputs two letters when pressed once so I have to resort to swipe typing which is unreliable...
3. Can't connect with Bluetooth to many items. For example, when connecting to my PS4 controller it says can't connect because of incorrect pin...
4. Sometimes when WiFi and Bluetooth is on, both may disconnect and bug.
5. Temperature can be high at times.
List may go on but I have had this phone for about 7 months and it hasn't been delivering...
Also, you really can't screen record on this phone...
Which really sucks cause Snapchat filters records your screen xD so you won't get that far with Snapchat.
1.Battery problems are common for this device so you have to deal with it.
2.I do not remember such error. I am using gboard and it's all fine..mostly. It lags sometimes if you switch between apps very often but it's also something you have to deal with because of the hardware..not for heavy multitasking.
3.No ideea about that, maybe there are some more steps to follow and it will work somehow.
4.Also known as a bug on EMUI, if both enabled, issues might occur.
5.That is useful since the winter season is coming lol.
Screen recording was working fine on mine.
I had 2 years with the P8Lite and it got me more into Huawei because it offered me a lot for it's price. Of course, aint a perfect phone nor a phone with high expectations but it's more than a decent phone.
Right now I'm using a P10 and it's a huge difference in terms of performace/design/screen..most of the aspects but even with that..P8Lite was a great experience for me.
Yeah I just think I got served a broken phone? Coz I've been browsing the internet and no one has been going through my problems... Well maybe I might grab a new phone lol coz I love this phone and I Kno my expectations are better, as you mentioned that these problems didn't occur with your phone I think I did indeed get served a broken p8lite... Thanks for your information btw..?
