No, you need a kernel matched to your ROM version. So you need a FNK2 kernel.. Wait till tomorrow

I'm trying to root my i9505 - the stock kernel on my device is GNi1, but that is not on anyones list. Can i use the gni2? if not is there an easy way to extract my kernel so i can re-use it?

this rom only works on 910f, dont know if you need a w8 kernel to make it work or if it requires more work...

i realy can not help you with that question, i only own 910f and it is only device i can practicly support.
Make a backup in recovery and try, but i doubt that it works, cause it needs the BOC5 firmware and i dont know if it is available for your model of the phone, if you may flash 910f firmware... if you flash wrong firmware you may brick your phone, and no one want that.
flashing wrong custom rom or kernel is relativly safe, but flashing wrong firmware is not safe.

One question, I noticed that after flashing (full wipe) there is no root access. How can I enable root access for the rom?

Under development options, enable root and, since you're there enable advanced reboot

Make sure you have on settings account all checked... Like I said, mine is working.

And then you can sync your apps and Google there
Sometime when you restore from other roms you loose sync. Just enable them again

You need a custom kernel to do that. There isn't a custom kernel for Oreo ROMs yet. Now delete this thread
