Has anyone been able to use stock device encryption on a rooted device. For me, the device goes black for a long period of time, and then reboots without encrypting the device.
I would love to know this too...

Brand new N4 on 4.2.1. Stock rom, kernel etc.. Only mod I've done is root and Exchange pin bypass mod. It seems as though I slowly lose time as the device sleeps all the way up to 10 minutes. Strangely it caps at 10 minutes. I am not running any task managers, I have tried resetting the device as well. Unfortunately I did not notice if the issue was there before rooting (who boots into the stock image anyway ). Power cycling the device fixes the time, but then slowly falls behind. Set to automatic time and timezone.
Anyone else? I did search and see that some Nexus 10 users have the issue. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this on their N4.
Is there a way to set it to use public time servers?
Is anyone else experiencing this issue. The device was locked with a PIN and fingerprint recognition. During extensive use last weekend the lock would disengage meaning the device could be opened by merely swiping. I therefore removed the fingerprint recognition and reverted to PIN only. However again after extensive use the lock was bypassed.
When you switched on the phone the screen showed "Swipe screen to unlock" If the padlock was below this phrase it was open and no PIN was required. You could however press the padlock and it would jump to be above the phrase and then required the PIN to unlock. However after switching off the phone it would often revert to be "open".
I can't seem to find anything about this by googling so would welcome suggestions.
Thanks,
Brian
PS If the phone is only used lightly during the day the device remains secure.
That sounds weird. Upon a restart the phone will always ask for the alternative method of unlocking (pin or password for example) rather than simply unlocking with fingerprint. But after that first time it should work fine. Personally, I have mine to set to unlock with only a fingerprint. Perhaps the fact you use both at all times could be causing the issue?
Are you on vanilla stock the phone came with? Have you tried updating it?

Thanks for the response.
I thought it was weird as well as the S5 never had this problem but of course it did not have fingerprint unlocking.
Yes it is Marshmallow straight out of the box and has had one update so is now running 6.0.1
I did sometimes have a problem with the fingerprint recognition so I would be reluctant not to retain the PIN!!!
S5 did have fingerprint unlocking, it was simply not as good as you had to slide your finger down the button. It did work though.
I recommend an update. Or, if you don't mind tripping knox, install one of the custom roms on this site or one of the other roms off site (like the one listed in my signature). Each new release of these custom roms are normally built on the latest base that is out there so you would hope any bugs like this would be fixed, assuming it is a bug.
Thanks, I'll give it a go. After the Lollipop upgrade bricked my Asus Nexus 7 I have been reluctant to do upgrades unless absolutely necessary.
Hello guys,
I'm having two big problems since I bought the device (around 2 months ago).
1. My power button doesn't vibrate when I press it and I feel like it's "stuck". In the mayority of cases I can't even turn off my device and I have to use some app to do that.
2. I get random reboots during the day. It doesn't happen during a specific part of the day, but suddenly, when I'm playing or using social network, my device reboots and I can use it again after at least 15 minutes because it gets in bootloop for a very long time.
Can you help me?
Thank you!
Edit. My device is completely stock, no root and no custom rom ever installed.
That sounds like a possible hardware issue, especially if totally stock and you didn't change anything. For something like that I'd call support, it may need replacement which should be fine still being under warranty.
Just give a look at this post:

Are you sure you didn't turn experimental night mode on?
So ,yeah ,I forgot the PIN code on my phone. I have an Asus Zenfone 3 Max ZC553KL and it does this strange thing every once in a while - it asks for my PIN code instead of my fingerprint reading when I try to enter my phone. It is absolutely adamant about it - no other options are available and I don't have an option to just recover/reset my PIN through my Google account or something like Samsung phones have. So ,of course this happens to me and I realise I have forgotten my PIN in the worst possible moment. Whatever has happened ,has happened ,but I believe my situation is a bit different that usual ,so don't just go ahead and comment I should factory reset my phone or something like that. I'm not giving up on my data.
So ,for some strange reason (totally coincidental) I have pretty much the exact same PIN on my laptop too (I just remembered that) ,but I also have a plethora of other sign-in options on my laptop so thankfully I'm not locked out of it as well. So I have been trying to brute force the PIN on my laptop hoping to find the right PIN and therefore unlock my phone as well. I wouldn't be able to do this on my phone since the amount of time I have to wait between tries doubles every 5-10 tries or so - from 30 to 60 to 120 seconds each time.
So ,the reason for my posting this in the first place is that I need suggestions and recommendations. Is there perhaps a faster way to do this? Should I try some other methods?
Currently I'm trying my hardest to remember some fragments of the 4 digit PIN's sequence and I'm 90% sure there are no repeating digits in the PIN. Tried around 90 combinations so far and I don't want to waste any more time if there happens to be a more efficient way.
FYI: My device is fully rooted and has TWRP custom recovery. One ,hopefully insignificant ,problem I have is that my phone's data is encrypted (I don't even know how I managed to root my phone having had this problem but it somehow happened). And what this means for me in the long run is that I cannot possibly backup any of my phone's data through TWRP or however else and thus my only option is no data wipe.
I will be giving up on unlocking it for today and start afresh tomorrow. Thanks in advance!
(I'm thinking of maybe trying out some brute force or dictionary attack type of method through some third party app on my laptop so I can figure it out for my phone. Dunno if that is even possible or feasible. Would be even better if I could just seen the PIN on my laptop since I'm already signed in but no ,why should it be easy.)
Got one of these zenfone 2 lasers with stock rom that goes into a bootloop any time wifi is turned on, which is now all the time since I tried to use the reset rom option in the power+vol button menu and the first thing it does at boot is attempt to connect to wifi. I've never tried to run any 3rd party os on it ever, though I thought I might try it one day.
I've manage to bypass the out of the box setup a new phone goes through and have access to the settings but I'd rather not repeat the steps to get to this point again, I'm wondering if I should enable debug mode / unlock the bootloader or something before trying to flash any other stock or possibly 3rd party roms.
The phone boots np after a reset but bootloops any time wifi is turned on(crashes at first attempt then never gets past the asus start screen), but I have enough data on my plan to not need wifi, would be nice to continue to use this phone for awhile longer before deciding on a replacement. I think the problem is in the broadcom chip since the bluetooth also died just before finding out this wifi issue.
Appreciate any advice someone might have, thanks!
