I know there are methods around using "any android" device with the Gear 2 smart-watch but has anyone here successfully connected their Xperia Z3C to a Gear or Gear 2? Did you have to root your Z3C in order to connect?
Thanks,

Just an update to this incase anyone else was wondering. The Xperia Z3C and the Neo 2 work perfectly with each other, even the ability to make phone calls. The only downside is the inability to install Samsung apps on the watch since the samsung appstore can't be loaded onto the Xperia.

Has anyone used a Galaxy Gear with their Google Play Edition S4 running 4.4? I'm interested in getting one, but I can't find the Gear app in the Play Store (I only found "Samsung GALAXY NFC Tagwriter") and I've not been able to find anything that tells me one way or the other if it will work with the Google Play Edition of the S4. Looks too iffy to drop $300 without a better chance of success.
Thanks!

I downloaded the manual for the Gear and it says:
The Charging Cradle contains an embedded TecTile that is used in conjunction with your smartphone’s NFC technology to both acquire the Gear Manager application and aid in automatically pairing the two devices.

So I guess that explains why I can't find the app in the Play Store. It would still be nice to know if anyone with a GPE S4 has been able to use the Gear with success or not.
Thanks!
yes its very frustrating, the Gear uses "gear Manager" which is a Samsung App from their store.
you can install the Gear stubb and the gear manager manually but there is things not working correctly like notifications, I have been searching for weeks for a solution, Devs are you able to include it as part of your Roms?
There is a thread about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529113
[Q] i9505g with Galaxy Gear?
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk
Have you seen the price of the Sony B/T remote for the Z2? Talk about rip off your loyal customers! Anyway, the ability to use a remote with my Z2 is very appealing so, also having a Z3 phone, I was wondering if anyone had come across an App that would allow me to use the Z3 as a remote for the Z2 Tab.
Cheers
So what would be a better choice to buy for to my Sony Xperia Ultra???
If you post the main features ...battery life, cost, IP rating, screen ...etc for both watches you'll get more feedback.
From memory ...even though the S8 is not IP67 (i think) it seems like a better choice, it has a better battery life and cost less.
Can buy a used g2 for $140, and a new S8 for same price. My main concern is if the g2 will be a same usefully with android, and will all the app will work?
The difference between the Gear and the S8 is the S8 is a standalone Android device so can use any Android App and doesn't need to be connected to the phone, where most Gear features need the phone.
so is it only standalone? I received one yesterday and can't make it work with my sony

Will the S8 be able to bluetooth sync with a samsung galaxy s5 or is there an app that needs to be installed?

Hi Friends!
Has Any One Tried Gear S2?
I was wondering if the Samsung Gear S2 was compatible with The Lenovo ZUK Z1.
Or if you Could atleast install the App Samsung Gear:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager&hl=en
If anyone tried it, I would be highly on your debt if you would be so kind enough to share your oppinion, review or results please.
:cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:
Thanks in Advance!!
I just bought a ZUK and was shocked to see the Samsung Gear App beeing marked as incompatible. But as it turned out there ist just one extra step to perform and the Z1 and the S2 work together flawlessly (at least as far I as I tested the connection during the last 10 minutes
That is what I did:
Installed the "Gear Plugin" and the "Samsung Accessory Service" apps from playstore and downloaded the Samsung Gear App from apkpure.com. As soon as it was installed everything worked.
Regards
Andreas
Hi there,
If I understand correctly we can connect a Gear S2 with Zuk Z1, and fully compatible right ?
is my understanding correct, as I am in a process to order a Samsung Gear S2.
Thanks,
Erik
Yep fully compatible
Cool, many thanks danimarti98 for your confirmation ... I will take one
Update:
Samsung Gear S2 received, I tried to install Samsung Gear App but did not find it on the Play Store "because Not officially supported by Samsung".
Reading this thread more carefully I noticed that it needs to be installed from apkpure.com .
After having installed it all was working like a charm :good:
Thanks again
We've got two Gear VRs and no Note 7s. Is it possible to run the Gear VR on the V20? Our V20s are T-Mo. Will we be able to root and spoof the build.prop phone id as an S7E to get it to run? How about sideloading the Oculus app?
I've tested and the V20 fits into the Gear VR nicely. The USB C engages correctly.
Does anyone have any info on this? There must be less of others with useless Gear VRs after returning their Note 7s.
The form factor and "Detection" of the Gear VR software would be your 2 hurdles to get over with using the Gear VR. At this point I am selling my Gear VR 2016 model.
if the v20 fits, you might be able to run Cardboard apps or view youtube 360 movies...the gear vr will then just be a overgrown google cardboard
I've got a rooted Note7. When I try to log into Oculus, it refuses to allow it. However, if I change the phone type to an S7 in build.prop, it logs in fine. I'm hoping we get root on the V20 and I'll be able to do the same trick.
It seems like there's not much action on rooting, however. Does anyone know why, or is it just too early. Supposedly the T-Mobile V20 is bootloader unlocked.

It's not just the build.prop. The Note 7 was shut down by Oculus due to the recall. The Samsung premium phones have detection software that the V20 doesn't have. Whether that can be ported or not remains to be seen.

Do you think that detection software is outside the Gear VR service and the Oculus System Driver? I've got TB backups of both (and all other Oculus/Gear apps) and hoped to sideload them, then change build.prop. Of course, can't test any of this without root.
I've tried watching 3D SBS movies played via a standard player with the V20 in the Gear VR. You can focus, but the aspect ratio is off (stretched vertically) and parts of the video are off to the side. We'd need the Gear VR player for that to work.

That's above my pay grade but I think the Gear Service will have to be ported to the V20 for it to work. As some else said, you otherwise have Google Cardboard.
I still have my Note 4 which I was planning to dedicate to the VR. I have to get over a "network not available" issue.
Any updates on this? I got a new gear VR headset but sold my s7 edge and just got the LG V20, jw if there are any updates on if this works or not?
Thanks
Have you tried these things using the LG VR headset. I know its compatible with the V20. Maybe it can be used to run some Oculus software. I would LOVE that.
It works a little bit. Just use Google goggles app. Doesn't look crisp like it would a galaxy s7 edge/note 7

No I didn't yet.. From what I've heard, not many people like the LG VR headset because there are very limited apps right now.. Not sure of the validity on that, but I've also not really looked into it..
