Hi
Can i flash my "samsung galaxy tab 4 t237 sprint" Rom with "Samsung galaxy tab 4 t235" ?
They are similar models with similar hardware
the only deference is that t237 has infrared and t235 don't.

I wouldn't do it. Don't be so certain the hw is the same. Recovery and roots for 237 do not work on the 235. have not tried visa versa.
235 has a Marvell board and processor/SoC.
I don't think you can flash a 235 factory rom under any circumstances.
Variables:
If the 237 has a marvell board/SoC instead of a QUALCOMM snapdragon, you might be able to flash a custom rom for the 235 whenever one becomes available. There's none out there yet.
ROOT for the 235 just became available so roms may be around the corner.
The hw could be the same, however the partitions may be different.
You might try as a test to flash the unlocked 235 recovery on to your sprint 237. I can't promise you won't brick your 237, but I don't think that will happen. I'm not buying you a replacement 237 if it does..
Worst case I can see is the recovery flash fails and so you go ahead and reflash the factory recovery from the 237 stock rom.
Best case the recovery flashes and works. In this case, then you'd have an idea that flashing the entire 235 ROM might also work.
How did you root your T237?

I was wondering if you could tell me how you rooted your T237 and walk me through the steps or point me to the site with directions? I rooted my S5 G900P and love all the advantages. Now I try to get everyone to root and put custom Roms on there phones, it's amazing what you can do.

I can testify this method worked for me on my brand new Sprint Tab 4 7.0 SM-T237P.
I have been unable to find any ROMS for it, and im kinda bummed out about it. I'm considering taking the tab back as I really enjoy a custom ROM, but I a not sure I can find any other tablet with cellular that is supported by any of the local carriers.

There's now a way to get the factory recovery (3e) restored to the device without losing root.
That's detailed further on in the same T237P root thread.
Question:
Do you have Sprint cellular voice calling on your T237P without using a Bluetooth connection with your phone?

Sprint doesnt offer it with voice plan. I did however drop my mobile plan, took the free tablet and ported my mobile number to google voice. I now use my tablet with google hangouts and my primary telephone, it works TERRIFIC! I have WIFI availably 95% of the time and I am getting away with a $20 per month 1gb data plan.

I just took the plunge and tried flashing a T235 recovery, this one to be precise: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/sm-t235-lte-rooted-twrp-2-8-alpha1-sm-t3027059
Good news: it didn't brick my device.
Bad news: it didn't work, either. Just forced me into download mode, and once I used Odin to flash the t237p philz, it worked fine again. Will continue to test and update.
---------- Post added at 11:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:26 PM ----------
Just tried two more versions of TWRP. Same result. Sadly, I'm fairly certain that mine has a Qualcomm SoC, and therefore using a t235 anything will never work.
Maybe I should teach myself to make a rom.

Let us know if any 235 roms work on our 237
Hey folks,
Any other (not T235 only) ROM worked for T237? This crap is driving me crazy! I'm thinking loading T335 ROM onto T237 as I believe it is on Qualcomm as well.

Problem 1: So I just bought a Galaxy S4 for U.S Cellular... Never really liked USC... So I been trying to Sim Unlock it to GSM.. So I can use this for H2O Wireless..... The Bad thing is that the S4 was already updated to 4.4.2.... I been trying to put the phone in diag mode but i couldn't get into diag mode.......
Problem 2: So I got it rooted... Flashed TWRP Recovery... (Had 2.6.0.0, Now I have 2.7.0.1) And I thought that I can put a custom rom on it.. But I like stay close to a stock rom. Like Samy Deluxe Jello Biafra (S5 Rom for S4).. Like i wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data.. But every time i be finished installing the rom... It be stuck on bootloop... Be taking more than 30 mins to boot up at all.... And by then... i decide to just restore the stock rom i had backed up previously...
Problem 3:Solved!
But can someone help me out with all this...... PLEASE!! Thanksss
emm.. are you sure that you have tried to install the ROM appropriate to your MODEL of S4, first?
If bought in US, I doubt if it is I9505 or I9500....
from the USC website, I assume that it is SCH-R970?

OK, here is a biggest resource of top secret custom ROMs, especially ported for your model.
Feel free to check if installing these ROM would not violate the US Customs and Import limitation, as most of these were developed in other countries.

since this site the best with cellphones problem solving I'm askin for some help :/
its a SM-S975L
when i ran the network unlock tool it was already unlocked the boot loader wasn't locked either the only thing we need now is rom development to include our devices. I have twrp and used towel root to root the device.

I'm dealing with this same issue right now. Bought an SM-S975L for straight talk last night and I want to use it on Metro PCS. Metro says all is well on their end and I just have to wait, but all I see is "Invalid Sim" on the status bar. How did you unlock the SM-S975L? There's very limited information around the internet about this model. I'm tearing my hair out and the wifey is driving around without a phone. Figured you (or anybody else) could point me in the right direction.

LOL, the $249 deal was hard to pass up. I got a couple of them, one for me and one for the misses. She'll be fine with the 4.3 that is on the phone out of the box, but I wanted to convert mine to be like the I9505G (GPE). I was thinking it would be simple as I've heard all of the LTE models were like the I9505 and they seem fairly broken into. But I think this is more like the SGH-I337 and maybe boot loader locked, but looking into ways to test that. I did root it already using towelroot. Installed SuperSU and Titanium Backup and root is working, now so see if I can get CMW and a GPE rom on it. If I find a way I'll be sure it is mentioned here as a working method for the SM-S975L. I'm not using it yet as I have my GT-I9500 that I'm using, but seeing better support for the qualcomm for custom roms I decided to get it. The I9500 should get Android 5.0 official rom first though.
For what it's worth, I just picked up this phone from the Black Friday sale, and I would *really* like to put a custom ROM on it. I won't even pretend to be proficient in this. How difficult would it be to convert the custom ROMs on other models of Galaxy S4's to this one?
I am unsure my self the closest variant is the att s4. Both the att one and this one is bootloader locked. Since we have 4.3 version of Android safestrap would be likely what to use. I am afraid of this my self so I have not attempted it
Sent from my SM-S975L using XDA Free mobile app
Whoa whoa whoa. What am I looking at? It looks like that's the model of the T-mobile variant, but the baseband is the same as the S975L!?

It is the SM-S975L with a T-Mobile ROM and the custom kernel. The SGH-I337 ROM does not work, it erases the system partition every flash.
Awesome work aromerblz. Anything special you had to do to load the ROM with the S975 baseband...or any issues you're experiencing? Will be testing this out later in the week when I get some free time.

That is cool, at the very least its Kit Kat. I still would like to find a method to convert completely to GT-I9505G. Just no time. I'm hoping with jtag access it can be completely reconfigured, then just make sure the IMEI is set to that the device should be. Ideally the only way to see it was a SM-S975L would be to look under the battery. I don't really care about removing the SIM lock though, I plan to stick with my ST SIM. I did get a new BYOD SIM and it is showing 4G now (Not sure if it should indicate LTE like old ATT S3 does) as my old BYOD SIM would not and ST support said that I could not move the included SIM to any other device as it would be bound to the S975L.
I would love to get off the Tracfone ROM. I'm going to assume that Samsung/Tracfone will never upgrade this phone beyond Android 4.3. The last native update was in February of this year, and it was just a minor patch. I'm not too concerned about unlocking, but being able to use a different ROM seems to be a step in the right direction. If anyone could post a tutorial or what ROMs they used, that would be extremely helpful. I've looked everywhere and this info is not available anywhere.
For what it's worth, someone over on GSM Forums has claimed to have flashed the AT&T ROM too. They also were unable to unlock it, however. Unfortunately, I can't post the direct link until I have hit 10 posts That poster has been inactive for two months, and before that, he was inactive for three years. It may be hard to get in touch with him..

I first flashed a T-Mobile TWRP recovery v27.1, but the latest v28 works fine. After that i downloaded the TMB firmware NB4 from sammobile.com created a custom rom with the android kitchen. After that the usual flashing of the rom via TWRP. Without a custom kernel the phone does not boot up. So i used the ktoonsez kernel. Once booted i rooted with towelroot and pjone has been working fine. Only things to know is that when booting up it says "Kernel is not SeAndroid"
"Set Warranty Bit: Kernel"
As that specifies it trips the knox flag. Which i dont care if it does as am not in the USA.
You used the TWRP for jfltetmo, correct? Did you use Odin to flash it?
Also, this might seem obvious, but even if I do this, it'll still work/remain locked to ST/AT&T, correct?

Yeah TWRP for jfltetmo. The jflteatt does not seem to work at all on this model. I flashed with odin, no need to use safestrap on this phone as i think the bootloader is not locked like the one found on the SGH-I337, although its the identical variant.
Yes the phone remains locked to ST/AT&T. A friend of mines was able to get the unlock cod for this phone but even with the unlock code its not a permanent lock. Reason is because you can unlock and be able to use all the features available to the phone but once restarted it asks for the code again. Not sure why it does that, I believe the radio has to be the culprit for that here. Not sure how TracFone will handle the unlocks for this phone after 01/01/15. does the same even on full stock TF firmware.

Hey everyone,
I am currently running a straight talk variant galaxy s5, which is exactly the same as the verizon variant s5, just without the locked bootloadet. I know this for a couple of reasons.
1. I was able to root and flash twrp via Odin without safestrap.
2. I can boot into recovery without safestrap.
3. I can flash roms and make back ups in twrp without safestrap.
4. I can flash any verizon variant s5 rom, and they work flawlessly.
I have read, on galaxys5root.Com that cm 13 will work on all the s5 variants, except for Verizon and at&the due to there locked bootloaders. My question is this, if the locked bootloader was the only issue preventing cm 13 from working on a verizon variant s5, how hard would it be to port it without a locked bootloader? Or is there already a version of cm13 out for Verizon s5 variant?
In fact before I flashed a rom my phones model number said sm-s902L now it says sm-g900v. Not only that but YouTube before I flashed a rom would only let me play upto 720p, now it let's me play upto 1080p. And it's not a type o, it is actually playing in 1080p. It also recognizes and let's me over clock the full quad core processor. And I can verify that I bought this straight talk s5 from Walmart directly, and unboxed it out of a a walmart /straight talk box. What I think is that this really IS a verizon s5 sm-g900v, just with straight talk software on it, which gives it the unlocked bootloader.

On your phone go to settings => about phone and look at the build and baseband numbers. If they read SMG900VV you have a locked bootloader. If there is a KLTE in the build and baseband number your bootloader is not locked. If you bought your phone at a Verizon store or a retail outlet such as best buy, you most likely have a locked bootloader.

It may work. In theory because the base models are the same and can run the same ROMs. But my fear would be that if you bork your bootloader your device would be hard bricked. You need the bootloader to even start the boot processes.
I have the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy J3 SM-S320VL and I am looking to root the phone but have been unable to find a solution, I have tried SMSroot, King root and a couple of others but no luck as of yet.
I have the same phone. And have had pretty much the same luck. Kingroot tried to root it a few times but always failed. Anyone else out there manage to get this phone rooted yet?

Need help
I bought this phone through Walmart like everyone in this forem and I looked forever for this root cant find it but they have rooted this same phone but not through Walmart but from virgin mobile. so It does not have the same model number but I think it can be done the same way. so if anyone can figure this out reply to me. ifeatsamsung.com/root-samsung-galaxy-j3-2016/
Same Issue
I found several sets of instructions for rooting similar models of the Samsung Galaxy Sky J3, but none that have the specific model of SM-S320VL, which is what mine shows when you put it into download mode. I can get Odin to recognize it, but the only version of TWRP I can find is for the SM-J320YZ. From what I understand, most of the Galaxy Sky J3 models are similar and the model numbers vary by the carrier they were produced for. All that being said, I don't want to flash a bad recovery and brick my phone, so any info as far as that goes would be appreciated.
*EDIT*: To clarify, I realize this post was about rooting the SM-S320VL, but I wanted to install a custom recovery and make a backup of the phone before I got started on that process which is why I was talking about installing TWRP.
Odin fails trying to flash any of the versions of twrp available for the other versions of this phone. It doesn't hurt the phone. I've tried it several times with different builds I've found for the j3 2016 phones.

Is anybody familiar with what this is?
Has to do with unlocking the boot loader

I have the same problem with my sm-s320vl odin fails (auth) 005
"OneClickRoot states it has a method for our version but, $36.00 is a hefty fee for only root access..."
(Correction) - I asked the tech with O.C.R. and they informed me there was no method as of yet.
anyone figure this out yet? need to get this baby unlocked before christmas! sm-s320vl...
any luck?
I don't think this phone is actually the same as the other phones labeled J3 2016. Even though this is marketed on sites like walmart and amazon as a Samsung Galaxy Sky J3 or Samsung Galaxy J3 Sky. Which might be a part of the reason the odin downloads always fail. So no luck still on getting this rooted in any way.
I put a request to samsung for your kernel source so if at least one person steps up as a tester as I don't own nor have access to this device I'll help yall gain root once the source is posted.
Requirements as tester-
Windows pc
Odin
I don't have to hold your hand using odin
And supply your stock boot.img
How do I grab the stock boot.img? Everything I've seen uses DD and requires already having root

Samsung galaxy sky SM-S320VL? Any experts on how to to root this one? ThAnks guys!
Is there a way to root the galaxy tab E that comes from AT&T? I've found a TWRP image for the SM-T377P version but nothing for SM-T377A which is what I have. I was thinking they might be cross compatible but if they were, I'm sure TWRP would have listed it on their site.
The option to OEM unlock is in the dev settings list so I'm thinking I can flash the recovery but I'm not sure on that.

Kingroot can't root my Galaxy Tab SM-T377A runnning 6..0.1 Marsmallow, I just want to uninstall or freeze those AT&T bloatware but I guess I have to wait coz I can't return it anymore...Thanks ..
Worst tablet ever. Att can't even get their software updates right. I can't use this as a phone because the stupid number sync software keep giving an error and no one at att knows how to fix it. I've tried different dialers and freezing them. Nothing works. Now I have com.android.phone is not responding and their is no firmware download anywhere to fix it. Now I have to factory reset the whole damn tablet lol. I'm going to sell the and get a Sprint unlocked version. What a shame. This tablet had potential too

You can Google "replace Kingroot with supersu". There is a 4 step method for replacing the temp Kingroot with chainfires SuperSu. Even if bootloader is locked. Just found one of these in Facebook marketplace for $50.

Anyone flashed t377p on t377a?

I think this tablet sucks, too. AT&T hoodwinked me into getting this thing, and now I'm stuck with it for 2 years. It's slow and choppy--I'd rather have an iPad. My "Next" contract is just about up, and I can't wait to dump their ass for another carrier.
Agree. Hoodwink is exactly what they did. This tablet is SLOW and the bloatware is chewing up RAM. I'm about to dump it for something else. Was hoping to be able to root it so I could kill off some of the bloat, but no joy....

I knew I should have checked here first... but at least I can return it... I figured a device of its age would for sure have custom roms and root. Stupid at&t! Guess I'm back on the search for a LTE tablet that works on at&t for under $300
Hi, recently I bought a cheap AT&T Tab E. It has only 4GB internal storage instead of 16, weird? The tab is almost useless because it has almost no space for new files/apps. Anyone knows what's wrong with the tab? Thanks

Totally new to rooting in general, and researching isn't going well as I don't have any context/experience yet...and the vocabulary is new. I have (literally just bought a few days ago) this version of the Tab E...and I'm trying to root it so I can use it more effectively as a head unit in my 03 F150. I'm finding out I bought the wrong unit to do this reasonably easily.
Would you mind posting a quick walkthrough of how this works? Install KingRoot and then replace it with Supersu to get the tablet permarooted?
Thanks!

Not a big fan of youtube instructional videos, first one available, not sure if its good........
https://www.google.com/search?q=rep...0j7&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=1
This is a guide with a one-click .bat file to supposedly do this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989
Directions for manual replacement:
https://missingtricks.net/replace-kingroot-kinguser-with-supersu-superuser-android-guide/
Remember, this is for you replacing "TEMP ROOT", not when a device is permanently rooted! This means being in the position of Kingroot barely getting temporary root that will be lost when device is rebooted!!! It involves using Flashify (by Chainfire as well) and authorizing it's root ability to flash.
As in every OP on XDA, do so at "YOUR OWN RISK".........
