Went to best buy last night to activate my Nexus 6 on Verizon. They can activate a new nano sim for you for 30 bucks or cut your sim for 8 bucks. Probably should have spent the 30 but took the cutting instead. Works great on Verizon so far. Who said bb was completely terrible? Mostly terrible, but not completely.

$30 bucks for activation or 8 bucks to use scissors ? Best Buy still sounds pretty bad, lol. If it wasn't for them price matching, I would've stopped shopping there long ago.
The idea is to not have to deal with Verizon or buy something for one time use and don't have to wait for it to ship. *8 bucks why not

I called Verizon today, talked to a customer service rep. I told him I was getting an HTC M8 from a friend this weekend and he said he would ship me a nano sim free with 2 day shipping. I asked if I would need an adapter to activate it on my Note 3 then use it on the M8 he said no that he had already activated the sim so all I had to do was power off my Note 3, then power on the HTC M8 and I would be good to go. I would really have a hard time paying Best Buy for a free nano sim card.

I ended up cutting to much off on my attempt and it rattled in the tray. Had to go get a new micro Sim for my gs4, so found a cell repair shop who had a Sim cutter and they did it for me for free.

most stores dont have the sim cutters unless the BBYM manager went out of their way to order them. there is a service SKU and everything just for sim cutting.

I think at retail stores now it is more competence. If someone did this for me given the situation with the N6/VZW I would just come back b/c the salesperson actually knows what they are doing. Not to mention the workarounds that need a 3rd party retailer with VZW.
Sometimes at these stores I feel like I am talking crazy or a foreign language, lol.

It may sound ridiculous to you, but that's probably because you're thinking of how easily you could do it yourself. If you realized the average intelligence of the people I deal with every day then you might not think it so ridiculous. I had a guy try to trim his SIM card down to fit into his iPhone 6. He did it wrong and ended up getting the SIM card tray (with SIM) stuck in the phone. It would pop out a little when you pushed a pin into the hole, but that was it. He ended up having to rip the tray out with pliers. Thankfully for him, forcibly ripping out the SIM tray didn't seem to do any damage to the phone.
You probably also think it's ridiculous to charge $15 to install a screen protector. I would agree with that, but mainly because I have no problem installing them myself, so I find it useless to pay someone to do it. To other people, though, putting a screen protector on straight is an insurmountable task, so they gladly pay. It's all based on perspective.

Let's just put it this way, for someone on xda that can risk bricking their phone by flashing wrong rom, deleting the wrong file, or flashing a wrong file, I am guessing they have a slightly better than average ability to utilize the technology of phones.
My mom or dad yes, they would instantly do it. I had a Verizon employee install my sim once and wouldn't let me touch it and he made the tray loose. Told him it was loose and it wasn't before, manager had to be called over cause he claimed it wasn't and got issued an exchange since it was the employees fault.

Im in Shanghai and had my phone stolen from my bag (now im paranoid about where I put my phone).
I bought another hermes, used, with box and all, for 225$, that was over 6 months ago.
Bugga, my condolences....
Agree with alkizmo about ebay, in oz the jasjam seems to go for about $250aud which is better than the $900 or "sorry, we don't stock that anymore, wanna kaiser instead for $1400?".

iphone sux & is a ripoff fad...recent artical math:
Old iPhone: $399 (for 8GB of storage), plus $60 per month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. Two-year total (since you'll be signing a two-year deal for either handset): $1,839.
New iPhone: $199 (for 8GB of storage), plus $70 per month for a basic voice plan (presumably the same 450 minutes) and unlimited data. Two-year total: $1,879. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/94465
$175 for a Tilt!!!!!! See, Australia is the Arse end of the world and they keep serving us crap....
Wouldn't want the Tilt though, Love my Hermes....
and its tough love for your hermes
Sorry to hear that man. I was out Sat night this past weekend and my phone just completely stopped booting. Took it in, tested the battery and all, but it was dead. Couldn't even get to a bootloader. I was out of the warranty, and still had 7 months left on the contract so I thought I was screwed, but AT&T let me just renew the contract and get a new phone. Wasn't dying to get a Tilt, but it's better than being stuck with a crap clamshell phone for 7 months....best of luck! If it's any consolation, I heard you can get software for the Kaiser phone that will send you a text with the GPS location of the phone if a different SIM card is inserted. God forbid the phone gets stolen, but imagine the joy when you get to call the cops with the coordinates of your phone (hopefully in the pocket of the thief).

Yea but i need a phone now and i loved my hermes!
Is the ATT Pure gone? I am looking to add a line to my plan, and cannot find them anywhere. ATT has them on the website, but only refurbs and only for new customers (free). Amazon has them online for new accounts and upgrades, but they don't do add a line transactions.
Am I missing something? Is there a replacement for this phone coming out? My wife likes the Tilt 2 that I just got, but thought the physical keyboard was not needed... that led me naturally to the Pure.
im existing and it shows up for me .
I spoke with AT&T this morning. The refurbs are only available to new customers due to limited supply. They also said that I could order it as a new customer and transfer it over to my existing family plan without any problem or cost.
The said that the phone is still listed as a available phone, but they have no stock and do not know if/when they will be getting them in. O'well. I guess it will be a refurb for me.
Read this thread from FEBRUARY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637163
I did order the phone. I was planning on doing the $100 HTC trade up rebate, but it is not good on refurb phone purchases. But since there was no actual cost to the phone no big deal. I get to keep the tilt as a spare. On my TP2 purchase last week, I am sending in a Treo that was collecting dust and getting my $100 rebate.
I don't care if the phone is old (which it is not really) or not selling well. It does what I want it to do. It has no real replacement, and definitely the right cost. I upgraded 2 smart phones and the total cost will be -$50. Not a bad deal at all.
2 Tilt 2's would have been o.k. but the wife did not want/need the physical keyboard. Plus I could see a day when we would grab the wrong phones on the way to work and then be screwed.
LetsTalk.com has them along with Wirefly.com. Both available under the add a line program. Cost depends on your timing, they run them NIB for free MOST of the time, but have seen them listed for about $50 US.

I did not see them there. The only HTC that came up for AT&T was the tilt 2. I do believe they are gone, (or going away quickly). Not to be selfish but, I got mine.... or at least it is coming.... since it is coming Us Postal Service, I have a great hope for it to show up on saturday.
I can see the problem. my wife on Wed said that she would prefer the one without the keyboard. Then after she found out that it might not be available, she was o.k. with going tilt 2 as an option instead. I can see that conversation occurring throughout the country. In this case however the tilt 2 (new) was $199 vs the Pure (refurb) at $0. I am pretty sure I made the right choice.

As of thursday morning AMAZON was the only one who had them. They wanted 0.01 for a new line and $80 for an upgrade.
Amazon does not do the add a line, and phones purchased though them cannot be combined with an existing family account (like you can with att's own phones) without a $250 penalty within the first 6 months. ATT tracks by device ID, as long as the device is activated, they don't care how. Amazon get their comission based on account number. If you do the new account option, then try to combine the accounts, you will lose the new account number and be fined.
If you did upgrade by the end of May, you could do the HTC trade up rebate if you have an old device to send in and get $100 back. Then the phone would be -$20...even free shipping.
They did say that stock levels were low for the pure.

Ebay had some friday.. got busy and didn't get a chance to come here and post on it. Some of those dealers offer add a line. It's gonna suck if I ever have to do a phone swap though and no one has new ones. I love my Pure the way it is now. The stock ROM bites but the Energy is rockin'. A friend had a refurbed phone from ATT and whenever it got hot here his screen would fog up from internal moisture.

I have had some good luck with refurbs, but of course there are some horror stories. In this case I am sure that the cost saving will be worth it. The way I am upgrading and shuffling phones around, it will leave me with 1 line with an upgrade option on it. This will give me a chance to be able to replace any phone that breaks out of warranty in the coming months. Keeps the insurance cost down to zero.
First thing you do with any phone you get, new or refurb is check the white patch under the battery to make sure it is NOT pink in any way. That is the indication that the phone has been wet.
I love my Pure. Actually since me buying mine, my good friend and also my father have made the jump too. Its a pretty good touchscreen phone that is feels just the right size. I hope you all are successful in your attempts to get your hands on one. We knew they were going to get pulled months ago because of the low sales (wtf). I guess most people prefer the TP2 (meh).

I just got it and after a long 40 minutes on the phone with at&t the did all the juggling on my account and got it working. (even got them to waive the activation fee).
So far so good. I am charging it now, so that I can flash it to the (same) energy rom that I have on my tilt 2.
The battery in the Pure was draining the website so they stopped selling it :|
So, I have an iPhone 4 (i wish i still had my nexus one) and i am looking to rid myself of it and get the dell streak. upgrading this to 2.2 would be no problem for me, and all the specs seem up to par with everything else on the market.
here is the point of my question... I want to know if any of you who gave up your iphone (iphone 4 particularly) for the streak, WAS IT WORTH IT.
thanks
The simple answer is yes. The long winded answer is...
I've always been an iphone user up until the streaks release when I finally jumped ship to android. I've fallen in love with the way android works and the large screen of the dell. The customization options and the open feel of the apps on the market place are great features.
I tried out the iphone 4 for a couple of weeks but found it impossible to go back to the small screen and restricted software that is apple, not to mention the reception issues I was having.
Although I love the streak it's not all blue skys and kittens in comparison. The major things you'll notice in comparison to your iphone is the testing is a little harder to get used to and the market place doesn't have as many high end apps. The games available are very limited. However its easy to get past this considering how good everything else is and you cb always use some of the emulators instead and get some decent games.
All in all I would tell anyone on an iphone or considering it to look at android instead and if you want the larger screen then the streak is for you!
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I had the iPhone 4 for a total of 3 days before i realised it was the same tired iPhone I replaced... Sure they "added" some things, but the feel of iOs is simply boring compared to Droid.
Now I haven't received my Streak yet, just ordered it yesterday, but I am using the Samsung Captivate at the moment and it is 1000 times better in my opinion than apple could ever be. i find it hard to describe, but its like android is the offspring of iOs and winMo... So the "flash" of apple and the "tweakability" of windows... So that's my thoughts, can't wait for my Streak!! Hope it helps!!!
Yeah man I feel you. Because i had a nexus one from February till the end of June and I miss it. :/ I think I may go with the Dell tomorrow. I'm going to check it out at my local AT&T. Thank you a lot for input.. I am just so fed up with Apple. And it hasn't even been that long. anything else about the streak I should know or look out for?
Thanks again.

If you have an old sim trace around the micro sim then cut. I used a small piece of tape and it works great. Not the ellegant option but it's effective...

I still have my iphone4 and the streak. I miss the games (angry birds.) There's no denying they have more apps in general, but I got board of it. Think about 3G, 3GS, and 4 are all basically the same phone.

seems like you're right (i feared this lol) online only.
and i think im gonna go straight into an at&t and ask for a regular sim. who knows...

AT&T will swap out your micro sim back to a standard sim for free, being that the only phone in their linup that uses it is the iPhone... I had to go from standard to micro and back again and they didn't argue at all.. The rep told me that it is a common trouble shoot to swap sim card so they had no problem doing it for free.
Also, Dell has chosen to sell the Streak purely online, from the Dell site only. According to Dell, they wanted to make sure that all Streak customers were handled the same way to avoid problems, being that it was the frist phone they released.... ( Iwas told this by a Dell rep, so I am not 100% sure on the validity.)

sounds pretty logical. reps at stores can really make the process suck. especially when they stutter and they aren't positive on the features and stuff. eh.. i dislike buying phones from at&t. im glad dell sort of has a 'nexus one style' way of selling its product.
UPDATE - Gift Card is now only $50 for upgrades thru 6/30/15 but $150 for new lines.
Only until the 23rd. But 6 months of free Google Play Music AND a $200 gift card is a great deal!!!!!! Phandroid is reporting that the Verizon N6 comes with 6 months of free GPM if you buy it by the 31st.
http://www.comcast.com/verizon-wireless.html
You do not need to be a Comcast subscriber to qualify for this promotion. Some times the gift cards take forever to get to you and sometimes you have to make multiple phone calls to get them. But eventually I got mine when I bought another device through this link a year ago.
Edited - The Nexus 6 is on the Comcast link now. To find the Nexus 6 on the Comcast link, you have to hit the "All Devices" tab at the top and then search for the Nexus 6 or filter by Motorola brand.
Thank you so much for posting this! Looking forward to using it! Would you,or anyone else, happen to know if there is a method to use with this promotion and preserve grandfathered unlimited data? I have one unlimited line and two basic lines. Additionally, my current phone is a galaxy s3 and the sim card size is different. Would taking both phones to a Verizon store and asking them to activate a new sim card negatively affect my unlimited plan? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well in fact, I do, lol! Be sure and read the wiki here:

Then post over there if you have any questions.

That would be the worst possible thing to do. There are several methods you can use depending on which lines on your account are eligible for upgrades. Be sure and read the wiki on that thread I posted a link to.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I actually ran across that threat while researching the topic! I will definitely read through the wiki! Thanks again! =D Oh I was also wondering if you were going to get a Nexus 6 when it's officially released for Verizon, if you don't mind me asking. Hopefully they get the 64 gb cloud white version >.< not likely though since all of the other carriers only have the midnight blue 32gb version .

Yes, I am getting the N6, just deciding whether or not to get the Verizon since Phandroid leaked the info in Verizon's system that shows only the 32GB blue one will be coming to Verizon. The good news is that you get 6 months of free Google Play Music!

I really want the white 64GB one but the free GPM x 6 months along with the $200 comcast gift card is really tempting. And I rarely if ever see the white 64GB available on Motorola or Google Play Store.

The only thing holding me back is that my upgrade is on a basic line and I am going to try to transfer it to another basic line and see if that allows me to keep my upgrade. For some reason and no one knows why, when you do an upgrade transfer through Verizon online, some people are keeping their upgrades and not getting contract extensions. Obviously it is a glitch in the Verizon system, but I would like to take a chance and see if it works for me.
When people did the transfers through the Comcast link, they did not keep their upgrades and their contracts were renewed, but they got the gift cards. The Comcast link is through the iconic portal and it must process the orders differently is all I can guess.

I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully you do get to keep your upgrade =D We are actually in the same boat i really wanted the cloud white one as well specifically in 64 gb but the $200 promotion is very tempting. Please update me with how things work out for you!

I will update my results on the slick deals thread. I actually edited out that part of my post that you quoted b/c I would rather the upgrade questions be posted on the slick deals thread as it really is a complicated situation and people need to read the wiki over there before they attempt any of the methods. I don't want people trying any of the methods w/o reading the wiki so it is better to keep the upgrade method discussion over there IMO.
I thought all Nexus 6's came with 6 months free of GPM. I was given it when I first logged in.

The link says the N6 had to be purchased b/f 12/31/14 but you had until 1/31/15 to activate the offer.
Wow this is a fantastic deal! I wasn't even thinking about the Nexus but I might not have a choice with this offer. Not sure about the size of the Nexus 6 but from what I've read most people get used to it.

The $200 gift card is available for any smartphone you get so you don't have to go with an N6 to get it.
Again, it may take some work to get it, I had to make a few phone calls before I got mine and it took 3 months to get it last time but I did eventually get it.

Yeah but I think the Nexus 6 is the only device on Verizon I really want right now. If this were to extend into next month I would go with the S6 probably, but I wouldn't be too upset with the Nexus 6 either.

Sometimes they extend these offers, sometimes they don't, but I wouldn't expect them to keep the offer open during the S6 launch.
Wow, great find, makes a case for updating to an N6 on edge online vice the store.
how to they get anything out of it?

I have no idea, but I always check the comcast link first - just type Verizon xfinity in google and you hit on the link for the promo.

My guess edge won't work with Comcast deal will have to be 2 year contract.. Edge is contract phone not Verizon contract

Nope, link takes me thru where I enter VZ account info and then I could select a unit on edge, and they say edge in the promotion - Copied from their site: "Exclusive Online Offer
Requires new tablet activation or new 2-year or Edge activation of a new smartphone.", just that one cant yet obviously select the N6 until Thursday ...
After 12 yrs and crappy service I finally switched to Verizon.
Im thinking about it too. I been with them 9 years! Finally gonna make the switch either T-Mobile Or Verizon
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Free mobile app
good luck
unlimited data and the cheapest service around is better than dropping a couple calls here and there gl and you will most likely be back

Seems like you should request an explanation. No such thing as something happening for no reason. I have 2 phones, and I pay right around $150.

I have on multiple occasion. Mine use to be around $150. Seems someone fd up and it never got fixed. I tried but told them after 12 yrs no more.
Let me tell you, from first hand experience, Verizon isn't all that. Work started paying for my phone, so I had to make the switch. My wife's is still on Sprint. Her download speeds across the board are faster. Not to mention, Verizon locks the crap down on these phones. If it wasn't a free work phone, I'd still be over on Sprint.
