I have made this thread so I can tell you guys some features which I think some people don't know.....
1. In camera app if you long press the screen you get two circles i.e. one for focusing and other for adjusting exposure..

2. Stock huawei keyboard is pretty awesome and its Swype feature is very accurate. Some people find it lagging. If you long press the Swype button...and go to settings then disable the pop up option and you will notice that keyboard is quite useful and accurate. You can also download your local language by going into language tab...
3. If you swipe your finger on home screen from top towards bottom.....a tool will open which is actually a search tool and you will find it pretty useful....instead of finding apps you can just type some letters of that app and can save your time also...
4.If you long press the task switcher button (square) you will directly go to the last app you were using ...
5.Some people may have trouble finding the guest mode..so you can find that mode by going into settings> security> privacy protection..
Tell me if you find these tricks useful or not.....

I discovered yesterday if the device is in sleep and you hit volume down twice quickly, it will take a photo!
Pretty useful for taking a quick snap out of your pocket

hi,
is there any way to disable the word-suggestion-bar (found at the top of the keyboard)?
I own an SGS4 (Touchwiz) and have it with me since its first day of release, I find Huawei's EmotionUI superior to Touchwiz, but I also miss some feature a lot, and wish that Huawei had implemented them in their UI:
1- In the contacts app, I am not able to merge contacts as easy as in touchwiz.
2-In the dialer, when touching a recent call log in the dialer it will dial that contact instantly (in touchwiz it will give you a small contact card, with the option to message or call all numbers associated to that contact).
3- Too small contact picture.
4- lock screen: in touchwiz, when you get a notification (message, missed call), it will show in the lock screen above the pin number pad, touching the notification will bring focus on the pin number pad, if you then unlock the phone, it will take you directly to the message or phone dialer...this feature saves a few steps, but is not available in EUI.
5- Homescreen/app menu: Rounded squares icons does not look nice on many app icons.
6- Camera: I prefer the camera app in SGS4, for example I used to be able to take a picture using the front facing camera and backside camera (picture inside picture).
As previously stated, the HAM7 is a superior phone to SGS4 and even SGS5, IMO: fingerprint sensor is great and very well placed (at the backside), I think this is the best place to put this sensor in. I love the fact that there is not much Huawei bloatware, the EUI launcher has the best of two worlds (iOS and Android)...
I wish Huawei all the best, I am strong supporter for them now, as I am satisfied with my HAM7.
Same question about the suggestion bar in swype keyboard. But I looked so hard in the sqype settings and there is no option to disable it. Unless you use another keyboard.

For merging contacts click menu button in contacts then go to settings > merge duplicate contacts
For showing new messages on your lock screen go to settings> security> untick the option "Disable huawei unlock"
In dialer if u click on info sign located to extreme right of contact name...there you have option to either message or call the contact etc..
Hope this helps.
Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-L09 using XDA Free mobile app
the merging feature in EMUI does not give you the option to manually merge contacts, it will choose for you, and out of 1000 contact it will show only 5 contacts to merge, while in fact I want to merge almost 100 contact.
and that info sign is too small
I will try to enable the Huawei lock screen, but I think I will not like having to unlock two unlock screens each time.
One additional thing I noticed, is that icons for apps like facebook do not have notifications (i.e. that little number on upper corner of the icon that tells you how many FB notifications)
i ilikw all the little tips there thanks for that ,I however find the look of the Huawei Swape keyboard not very nice and therfore hard to use , i have stuck with the stock Android keyboard which is nice as well but i will perhaps give it another go to see if i get used to it
Great, I like discover than long press on task switcher button allow you to come back to last app you were using!
THX!
I also want to add that if you swipe up from the bottom of lock screen you will get tools like flashlight, calculator, recorder e.t.c. very handy esp the flashlight!

Actually my living room is in the form of rectangle and sofa sets are arranged along the walls.
We don't use this sofa very often. However, during festivals like eids... in family gatherings these sofas are required to accommodate extra guests.
And for watching tv comfortably sofas are arranged in front of lcd.

EDIT: I have updated this post with features/discoveries to date - 01/08/2011
Hey guys,
i've just arrived off the HTC boat and i'm lovin' the world of the Galaxy S2... what a phone!!
anyways, thought i'd make a thread on features as they get discovered as i tend to find that a lot go undocumented, and as i'm not a user of a previous version of Touchwiz, i'm not sure whether some of these are new or not, but maybe of interest to someone else like me...
Dickie
Mentioned so far - 01/08/2011
Dragging left on a contact sends them an SMS, and right calls them. This works in all the contacts list, messaging, call log etc...
You can pinch-zoom the app drawer and move panes as per the home screens
Home + Power buttons = screenshot
With manual brightness set, hold your finger down on the notification bar after a few seconds it becomes a brightness scroll. You just move your finger left/right on the notification bar to decrease/increase the brightness
In the address bar type in "about:debug", hit the go button. It won't do anything, or so it seems. Hit the menu contextual key and pull up the options. Go all the way to the bottom
In the address bar type in "about:useragent" to change user agent
An easter egg you didn't know about(it's from Google), if you go to preferences and about phone and click three times on Android Version you get an art
Pinch on browser whilst zoomed right out takes you to Tab/Window overview
Customise shortcuts in the Camera app. Just click 'Menu' and 'Edit' or hold the 'Cog' icon and you can drag the shortcuts you want to appear on the left of the screen
The dots that represent the home screens/app screens can be tapped to take you directly to the relevant screen, or held to reveal a slider for super fast scrolling
You can Pinch to zoom in the camera app
If you pinch to zoom in the stock e-mail mailbox it compresses all the mail by date. When you press on a compressed date, it expands the mail for that date only
You can smart dial in the phone app by typing a contacts name, if its not the correct contact displayed, click it to reveal all possible contacts, then select to call
Hold the power button for approx 5secs for an immediate shutdown
Use 2 fingers to scroll on a list to get an immediate stop upon release, use 3 to get a fast scroll that will continue to the end
Drag left and right on the video player to control FF and RW
Pinch the calender app to view by year, then swipe to change
holding on a letter on the right side of the contacts list & dragging to the left (without lifting your finger) will bring up another alphabet list & do a sub-contextual search under that letter of available options like 'AA', 'AB', 'AC'...'AZ'
didnt know the app drawer could be pinched zoomed : ) that sounds cool.
the swyping contact to call or message was there in the original G S as well though.
cool, thanks for letting me know!!
the pinched view of the app drawer, with my current 6 panes, are very large, requiring scrolling down to see them. theres only enough room for the first 4 (2 per row) and 2 halves before scrolling... if that makes any sense lmao...

This is a big one: apparently Home + Power buttons = screenshot... I just heard about it. I live in America so haven't used it.

I don't know if they left this feature in, but in the original SGS if you hold your finger down on the notification bar after a few seconds it becomes a brightness scroll. You just move your finger left/right on the notification bar to decrease/increase the brightness. I think it only works if you enable/disable auto-brightness. Someone will have to verify of course

Can you also see if the browser trick still works?
In the address bar type in "about:debug", hit the go button. It won't do anything, or so it seems. Hit the menu contextual key and pull up the options. Go all the way to the bottom and see if it will let you change user agent strings now

Sweet! Let's hope you guys find some neat tricks!
As for the ones mentioned:
- The sliding on the logs/contact list was already present in the predecessor (slide to the right to call, and to the left to message)
- Helicopter view/Pinch-zoom on the App Drawer was enabled in TouchWiz after the official Froyo update on the Galaxy S (International version)
- Screenshots were also enabled on the previous GS(International version) after the Froyo update, but there you had to hold the Back softkey for a second, then press the Home button.
Let's keep hoping for new things!
On a side note, could you try and let me know about this please:
While editing text, does it pop a magnifying glass to help easily position the cursor, similar to the iPhone's iOS and I believe HTC Sense as well?
Thanks!
Thanks for the screenshot trick. I was thinking it was the same combination as the original Galaxy, never thought to try other combos!
Now I can uninstall the shortcut app I downloaded

No, but there is a little tab that appears just below the cursor, which you can drag so your finger doesn't cover the text you are trying to look at. It works well.

Question about voice speed dial:
Is it possible to replace voice talk with this app. I mean when I press my call button on the Bluetooth headset note activates voice talk. Also double click of the home button activates voice talk.
Since my language is Serbian I have little to no use of voice talk. On the other hands ability to voice tag calls or applications is much better.

Are you sure this is no virus/spyware/adware?
For some reason all Youtube downloaders seem to be viruses, even on the PC.
I don't know why the virusmakers all seem to do youtube downloaders but they do. The website that you linked says it isn't a virus. To me when a site claims their software isn't a virus, it usually IS. The site looks kind of dodgy too.
Is there a way to detect a virus in android apps without installing a bloated antivirus on the phone? Does something exist where you can check android files for viruses on the PC?
Been using this for ages, since Galaxy S time. No issues mate. Have it on my Galaxy S, 8.9 and Note.

Had no idea of the swipe style option available on the keyboard...
Here's a video of tips and tricks I've just whipped up. -> http://youtu.be/tC7z5PCdGLE
This is what I've discovered so far: smart stay, motion gestures, keyboard layouts (displayed by OP), handwriting input, nav keys extra functions, S Pen button, mini apps, screenshot key alternate uses and a demonstration of power, four apps running at the same time all of them shown on the screen at once!
Seems the more I learn about this tablet the more I like it. I had removed all of the Sammyware, but now I've out a few things back. Great thread.

For a keyboard to pop up it needs to have an input field. it will be useless if you pop it up without anything listening to the keyboard.

Well I have this situation where I need to press F12 to change to another page, but no input field in the page by itself. I tried clicking on the address bar to open the keyboard, but since the focus is not at the right place, it's not working. So I have a situation where it is NOT useless.
I don't know what troed wants to accomplish though.

Didn't find where you can shut it off for the whole day. Info, please?
16:10 ratio movie will take up the entire screen in the stock video player - it'll hide the controlls and display edge to,edge.

I'm curious as well. I hate lock screens, they don't seem to have any use to me, especially on a tablet. This thing can't turn on in my pocket, I don't wear clown pants(assuming clown pants have giant clown pockets). I just installed the "No Lock" app which does the trick.

Thanks. More info, please. Already looked there. Maybe my contacts are dirty.
Anyone know if there is any way to go immediately to Google bookmarks in the stock browser instead of local?

"None" should be the very last option in the screen lock page.
Nice. Thanks. Yup, seems I need wipers for my contacts.
Here we go in German settings (see attachment)
Why I need the keyboard to be opened even if there is no "call it to screen" input field:
I use "logmein" now for a couple of years for only one reason: to check my patients data base in my clinic.
Once I'm logged in and the remote screen appears I can click the icons to start the program but once I want to type a name ton the remote PC he keyboard does not appear.
Of course there would be other solutions, but I tried Splashtop Remote and other similar apps which do not work since my provider protects my clinic from outside intrusion by a firewall and even after my provider opened the ports necessary to run Splashtop Remote it does not work. After testing a lot of apps in the last two years with my SGSII/III and Note LOGMEIN is the only procedure that works. Of course I could buy the Android app Logmein ignition but look at the rating of this app, the prize and comments that it works very poor if at all. And why should I buy an app when my magnificent Note10.1 can do the same with it's browser ?IF I COULD FORCE THE KEYBOARD TO APPEAR ON THE SCREEN TO TYPE ON MY REMOTE PC !!!!!!!!
Quick heads-up. This is definitely not supposed to be a release candidate. There are a lot of times when apps crash, you can't change lock-screen background due to system crashes etc etc.
I know there are plenty of other topics all about this OTA. Here I present to you, a feature summary.
Please keep in mind that this most likely IS NOT the final 4.1.1 release that Samsung will put out.
Nevertheless, I hope you guys like it!
Feature-list:
S Note upgrades
S Note Widget
Improved calendar colours
Blocking mode
Text-message backgrounds
new multi-tasking features
Screenshot improvements
Improved text selection
S Note
Ah.. The note taking app from Samsung. I think this app was already pretty decent in 4.0.4, so let's see what some of the changes are.
The first thing that you should notice is that Samsung added a scrolling bar on the side. Sweet! Navigation through the standard navigation icon is still available.
When you active the Pen Only mode, the screen still responds to touch for navigation purposes. Touching the scrollbar to scroll works fine.
Want to know what also works fine? Pinch zooming! And boy oh boy, with this update, you WILL be pinch zooming with your palm while using the S Pen. Hate it..
This pretty much beats the purpose of the pen-only mode for me. Great I can't write with my finger any more.. but my palm keeps zooming in etc. It can't be that bad I hear you say? Well, it wouldn't be if it happened once every 15 minutes or so.. but I get it SO FREQUENTLY.. it annoys the hell out of me.
(Lucky for me, I'm getting a Smudge Guard (sort of a Wacom Cintiq 'glove') which will allow my palm to rest on the screen without any hassle. Was already getting it for drawing purposes )
Something that bothers me a bit, is the fact that with the update, landscape mode is zoomed in past 100% making the text and background blurry by default. Rotating your device to portrait mode ofcourse 'fixes' this, but I like working with my tab in landscape mode. On top of this, it is annoying to manually zoom to 100% because there is NO snapping. Leaving you twitching somewhere between 94~106%.
I don't have OCD, but man o man would I like this baby to snap to 100%
Folder lay-out
I wanted to add this quick tip in here. This was already a feature in 4.0.4 but I don't think many people know of it. You can adjust the width of the 'folder-bar' by selecting the dividing line and dragging it to the left or right. Dragging it all the way to the left, hides the folder lay-out.
Portrait page, covers and backgrounds
First off, you get to choose a new page preset named Landscape note.
Also, some new covers and backgrounds are present in this update. Nothing too fancy, but I think that the music sheet is pretty sweet for those who know how to use it.
New S Note widget
I'm pretty sure that this wasn't included in 4.0.4. Correct me if I'm wrong
New sync options?
Nope! The sync options are still limited to Google Drive and Evernote. No dropbox yet..
Settings
I don't believe anything has changed here, but a screenshot anyway
A nice new 'feature' is the fact that the colours in the agenda have been updated. They are brighter than before and reflect the colours I use in my Google Calender better! Yay!
Blocking mode
In the settings tab you can find an interesting new feature called blocking mode. Allowing you to block notifications, incoming calls etc. It's like an upgraded 'Airplane mode' with nice features like time settings and white-listing contacts.
Background text-messaging
Now you can also add a custom background to your textmessage overview yay!
Multi-tasking upgrade bonanza
At first it didn't seem to me that the multi-tasking was incorporated just yet. I had to search for that son of a gun. Turns out, they've given the 'up' - arrow at the bottom of the screen a pretty big make-over.
Where at first you just had some pop-ups like the S Note, Calculator, World time, etc. You now have a world of 'new' possibilities. I haven't played with this a lot yet, but it seems promising. Although there doesn't seem to be any support for third party apps.
When you press the arrow, you get to select which app you want to open. Also you can arrange the open apps in various lay-outs. Free-floating, and a few grid options (see images). Dragging a free floating app to one side of the screen, has a Windows 7 - like feature, making it expand to that side of the screen.
Now I hear people think, "why isn't there a multi-task button in the apps anymore?". Well, you can easily make a (samsung) app free floating, by dragging downwards from the outside, at the top of your screen. (Just like opening notifications on android smartphones!)
To me all these multi-task features feel a bit 'buggy', but I might have a change of heart when I get used to using it
Improved screenshots
Now you can hold the pen button and DRAG! to immediately marquee an area that you want to cut out and take a snapshot of.
Haven't gotten to testing this a lot, so bear with me on the 2 shots
Improved text selection
When selecting text in 4.1.1 you first get an Apple-like magnifier, which is stylized in a pixel-art-like style. It's pretty small though. The selection markers are a bit smaller and seem to have improved performance. In 4.0.4 I found it rather annoying to use them.. In 4.1.1 it feels much better
If you know how to take a screenshot of the notifications, please let me know. The pen method and the on-screen short-cut don't work.
You miss anything? Request something!
Thank if you like!

About the multiwindow feature: nice find! Love this more than the "old" way.
Did you also noticed the new way of selecting text. They are using a magnifier now like the iPad/iPhone. Nice steal .. Hope they don't gonna troll Apple by copying everything that is not patented LoL
Thanks for the list. Looks promising for sure!
I don't know how it is in a browser but in tapatalk none of these pics will zoom.

Thanks! Didn't notice that yet. I don't think they'll have any issues, it looks totally different.
@Mitchellvii; All these image-thumbnails are hyperlinked to the images on imgur, where they are hosted. I don't know how to do it differently on this forum
I know it works fine when I use the XDA app, but this was all created on my laptop
Looks nice so far. But as much as I enjoy having 85 different styles of notebook covers to choose from, how about:
1) Allowing us to create and save our own templates? <<< This!
2) Some white lined paper (yeah crazy right?)
3) A "chalkboard" background so we can write in white (hey I'm weird, I prefer whiting in white ink).
Holy s**t! The new multi tasking looks superb!
One X to rule them all
Looks promising with 4.1.1.

Samsung's new testing team -- XDA members!
Seriously, this is a good method. Their phones/tabs are unlocked, so it's easy for anyone to try Beta software. This allows Samsung to get real in-depth review of bugs in the codes. And it's fun for many people. Just look at SGS3 JB leaks -- new leak every single day. I won't even call them a leak now!

Actually, anywhere on the taskbar works
Just noticed, if you want to get the bottom bit in the screenshot, i.e, the home, back and task button, do it on one of your homescreens, as it shows up there

So far I've only experienced one app crash in S Note, and also I tried to change the lock screen background and it works for me.
Been using the update for like 2 days now, and it has been suprisingly reliable for me.

I believe Samsungs developers are reading this forum, if you have a look at http://www.sammobile.com/ you can see that Samsung are leaking a new JB rom for the SIII pretty much every single day, which would make me think that they are actually using the bug reports and posts in the forum to correct bug and leak new releases.
Too scared to have a proper beta program which allow half of the people able to flash it without getting weird errors?

I am actually more worried about S Note.. If the final version does not disable pinch to zoom in pen only mode, my palm will definitely mess everything up. The it will be a deal breaker and I may not upgrade to jelly bean coz I take notes extensively

In case anyone on an 8013 wonders if this works for us, yes it does, im running it right now. For good instructions look here:

One thing I have noticed is that the stock browser ia MUCH faster, especially when accessing your Google bookmarks. That used to lag badly when opening but no more.

Great app, I really love it!
Working excelent in xTraSmooth.
Update 1.0.2
root is no longer asked during boot but its now only asked when needed by doing this you no longer need to select enable su during boot in superSU
I understand you want people to buy the full version but there seems to be no indication of what the default settings are and no way to find out so Im just swiping randomly to see what happens. Good luck ?
---------- Post added at 10:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:09 AM ----------
There should also be some sort of visual demonstration of where to swipe on screen before leaving your app menu. On my tablet in landscape swipes are working but in portrait I can't seem to swipe anywhere?

for now ill tell you what the default settings are
left edge swipe up = search
left swipe up = back
center swipe up = home
right swipe up = recents
right edge swipe up = menu
two finger swipe up = none
three finger swipe up = none
four finger swipe up = none
in portrait gestures should be from the bottom
in landscape gestures should be on the right
i don't own a tablet so i have not had the chance to test on a tablet
does your tablet have a status bar at the bottom that could conflict with the gestures ill add a option so you can pick what side you want the gestures to be on
Update 1.0.3
Added help
Added alpha settings
Added option to swipe from right side
Bug fixes
Awesome
Was using GMD gesture control for years since 4.0 and it is currently not supported in 5.0.....this app made my day.....though i was also using 'All in one gesture' app recently.....i find this simple and easy as its pre configured. Keep it up....will buy the paid version once more gestures are added. thanks

İ also was using all in one gestures but could not have it 100% how i wanted it to be so i made my own
I was not thinking about adding any more gestures i did not want to take more then 1 edge of the screen i could add somthing like L shape gestures but the only way i can think of implementing that will put a delay on normal gestures and i want the gestures to be as fast and responsive as posible maybe i could add angle swipes but i did not want to make it to complex i also was thiniking about a swipeing dock maybe i will implement that but im not 100% sure yet im trying to keep it light but now that im thinking about it a dock could be sexy
Nice app
Thanks for the response and that was me on google play store
My tablet has a navigation bar but as soon as I get the gestures set up I will be removing the nav bar as it's pretty annoying on a large tablet screen, having a huge line at the bottom of the screen for just 3 small buttons!

1.0.3 should work better for you
if you increase the alpha you can see where the gesture gets activated so you know where to swipe
can you add someone post a video of someone using it? Might help with downloads and info... someone seeing in it in action
This is brilliant. This is the first non-intrusive nav bar replacement app solution I've found. For .64p it's very modest and should stay that way. Thank you for your help and nice simple app!
By the way, when in landscape, the swipes on the right-side should be labeled as top, middle and bottom, in conjunction with right, middle and left for portrait mode on the bottom-side. This way whether you're in landscape or portrait, the swipes stay in the same place [emoji12]
Hope this makes sense! [emoji106]

It's pretty good, I'm loving it. Great job. The only problem I have with it is that it takes some time to launch an app if it's set as a shortcut and it leads to making it feel unresponsive
"ok google" not working on home screen
i encountered this problem happening only when i am using this app "swipe navigation" otherwise the "ok google" is working from home screen.

ok its now doing the same with me and iv worked out why
****Edit 1
if you use the home swipe/key and try to launch a app just after you went home it will not work iv looked around found that i may need to add STOP_APP_SWITCHES permission to remove the delay lets see if that works
****Edit 2
OK i cant add the STOP_APP_SWITCHES permission unless its a system app so i need to try and find another workaround until then there will be a 5 second delay before you can press home and launch a app its a android security thing
****Edit 3
Woohoo worked out how to fix it and i did not have to do anything special instead of using the accessibility service to go home just used a intent and it no longer has the delay
