we have a notification led - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

apologies if this is old news, but I found out this am that we have an led on our phones! I have the 64gb version.
When I woke up, the phone was dead (let the battery die overnight), when I plugged it in to the turbo charger (off, and dead) an led lit up on the top of the phone (not sure where, I was half asleep) it was green, and very clear.
I've tried a couple play store led tools, nothing can make it light up, I'm tempted to let it die again just to see it light up.
hope we can play with it when lollipop goes live.

I suspected this since they found one in the nexus 6, I doubt we get to touch it without root.

i hate led notifications since moto display came out. never can go back.

I like active display but I REALLY like having a notification led.. I miss it.. I love being able to specify different colors for different contacts, apps, etc.. It would be great to be able to have access to both active display and a notification led..

I could be wrong, but I dont recall seeing any mention of an LED when watching the Turbo teardown video.
You sure you werent dreaming?

If he was, we had the same dream. I saw it too when my batter was dead and I plugged the charger in. To me it seemed smaller than the notification light on the S4.

One does exist, believe it is the same as the one in the moto x: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/01/0...notification-light-hidden-under-the-earpiece/ . It only shows when there is not enough battery power to illuminate the display when charging to show the battery icon.

new to me, thats awesome hopefully we can make use of it! I miss color coding my LEDs to each app, it was great for knowing instantly what kind of notification I had by just glancing at my phone across the room.

I have a moto maxx with root. Gonna tey the Nexus 6 way and see if it works.

This!

I cant stand the onscreen notifications. Bugs the crap outta me. There are times where I dont look at my screen for hours. Just from a battery life angle the led flashing has to use less battery than the on screen notifications.

I have a moto maxx rooted too and I already checked this led and it works as far now I just can say that led color is only green and not rgb led like n6. :silly:
I used light flow app to make it on. I will be trying some diferent combinations and see if I can get something else.
I´ve been not able to make it flash, it´s just solid green light.

Go to settins and check root mode and run every command as root
then go to led control and check charging led
after that go to notifications setting and enable the led charging for each app of you want

Boo, I used light flow to get different colors to blink on my gnex for texts, emails, low battery, etc
It was very useful.

Ud be suprised at how very little battery life it takes for the Moto Display, if u have GSam battery app u will see it uses less then a percent on each charge. So that means out of your total 100% battery only 1% or less goes to the active notification.

I'd like to use active display but apparently I disabled it.... Anyone know where I can enable it? Or does it only work with slide to unlock option? Leaving your phone vulnerable to snoopers. (I'm using pattern to unlock)

Display (not sure if active or not) is in the "moto" app. Under settings or moto icon

I was using it with pattern, and now I use it with PIN.
Go to Settings->Moto
Click on Display in the lower right. There should be a check mark next to Moto Display on the next screen. That's also where you select which apps display on it, and whether or not you want notification details available.

Yup, got it thank you! I originally assumed it would eat my battery but since it takes advantage of amoled display it won't.

disable button backlight

Is there any way to disable the backlights behind the Dedicated touch buttons located at the bottom of the vibrant. ?
I am very annoyed by the way it lights on and off. I can easily navigate without it and im thinking that it would also consume less battery life.
Thanks
Blinding to you too huh?
I've found not. They "were" the quintessential "look" of uber tech awesomeness, but now I"m just going blind at night. Haha. Guess that comes with age.
I think it is a software modification as black night notification can be turned on. So as such, maybe it can be turned off as well.
So far, haven't heard anything about it's implementation though.
If I find something, I will report back.
I'd also love these turned off or ate least down. Adjbrightness can do this with other phones but not, apparently, the sgs line.

Short of opening up the phone and putting in a resistor, it currently isn't possible to reduce the brightness of the LEDs. That's because the interface for controlling the LEDs is too slow. Normally LEDs are dimmed by blinking them really fast, as other methods are hard on the lights.
What I suggested doesn't work. Edited accordingly.

Make a backup of the file first.
If you look in /system/lib/hw/ there is a file called lights.s5pc110.so. back this up, then delete the original file and see if this disabled you button back light.

Do not do this. The file doesn't do what you think it does and removing this file will cause a boot loop.

Notification LED

Hi, since the note lacks notification LEDs, is BLN ready for it now?
noled works.
I did try noled but sometimes in dark area the black around the icons seems to be not black as it is when it's in suspend mode. my conclusion is that it's consuming to much battery at that time.
power button to wake ain't working too.
what about your experiences at all using noled right now?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Noled is working fine for me. Doesn't seem to use up too much juice. Leaving GPS and bluetooth on overnight however almost depleted the battery from full.
I love using NoLed, definitely my favourite application. I have it set to display my contacts picture and so whenever I have missed a call from a friend and receives a text from another, I am aware of this by a simple glance!
Battery life isn't significantly effected in my opinion (I have the icon size small/medium and brightness set low).

Hi there newbie here, are these apps? so are downloaded from android or what?
My Motorola Flipout also don't have nonfiction light, but the capacitive buttons blinks when there is a miss call text/email. I wonder how difficult it is to implement it on our Note?

Seconded, this is such a simple and great idea
Well at least there's a sysfs to control the state. It's just a plain on and off leds though, nothing fancy like per-button lights and brightness as in Dell Streak. No big deal for some distracting blinks
Light it on with
# echo "1" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/melfas_touchkey/brightness
Light off with
# echo "2" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/melfas_touchkey/brightness
It won't be controllable when it's sleeping though, as usual. So either wake lock (battery drain), modify keyboard driver, or a *very top secret* other method
Can't it be done like in the Dell Streak 5?
App's name is Streak LED.
Isn't it possible to write something like that? Would be ideal.
surely this app not a battery hog? I already felt bad on my battery @@ but I also want a notification light.... tough choice.
i would love the capacitive touch led´s light up when a message arrive. My Dell Streak has an app for it, its just great!

is it a big deal to write an app for it?

There are several ways to implement the feature, each with their own weaknesses. I'll aim for the best solution, but I'll need to check on the melfas touchkey driver for it. Worse case is the wake lock with root access.
It's going to be implemented for sure, as I badly needs the feature as well. It's just a question of when..

Yeah, I believe also the touch keys are the best solution for me to use them for notifications.
Have been running NoLED for a couple of days (ish useful) - however, checked the battery stats and it was awake a LONG time (15% of 13hrs?) and was around 10% of battery usage.
Have turned it off for now as I sit next to my phone for most of working day and therefore hear it as much as I see it.
Will re-evaluate once I've optimised the phone setup.

Well, mates, Noled is not working for me...
Just the option to see the recharge % on the lockscreen...

HTC One 4.2.2 update pros and cons

I updated my ONE to 4.2.2 around 3 days ago. Needless to say its a pretty cool and major update. Still some observations..
Mentioned in Update Changelog
DayDream
Improved menu button
Notification Bar
Quick settings
AE|AF lock
Back buton = start of Blinkfeed
Some of the good stuff which wasnt mentioned in the log
Gallery has removed the extra step to go to events, albums etc
App drawer animation is waaay smoother
Dynamic contrast now doesnt flicker the screen [I think]
If you have multiple types of numbers stored for a contact, it comes up in small just above the message from the type the message has come
Some of the Issues I found
Normal mode in camera produces a blue tinge in the view finder
BoomSound volume is a little lesser
Power saving mode has degraded. Or maybe the brightness level has been increased. Something has changed in that
One more - I got Wechat preinstalled after this update!
Any of you facing any issues?
I saw nothing wrong with the camera.
But i hav one priblem since 4.1.2 the keyboard flicker sometime, does anybody hav this also??

Can someone who has 4.2.2 comment as to whether there is still a waiting period when sending group messages? What I mean is that when you send a group mms message, there is a small popup with a blue circle that says "Please wait..." Is that still the case? Thanks.
I can confirm too that boomsound sounds a little lesser. and the camera I tested In a bright sunny day, in the screen is something (better I think) and them the picture taken is a little warmer.
The sky quality even in sunny day have a very bad quality. its like 8bit blue color.
my sound isnt as loud anymore and i think my battery got worse, i get 1 hour less screen time -_-
Sound is down for sure but my guess is that some people blew their speakers with very loud files I assume this is a "fix"
Power saver mode doesn't work after update.... Seriously need to fix it soon

Yeah proximity issue. Once a call starts, suddenly the screen would go black and I have to toggle the power button to turn it on. And when you do that, it wont turn off i.e the proximity wont work.
I have no issues with the camera, seems very good still to me...I get the proximity issue though it seems intermittent, I don't really use the speakers to be fair so not sure about the difference there. They still kick the crap out of any other phone I've heard so can't complain! I also think my battery isn't as good as it was though I'm getting there with it. Think the settings are just a little different. I did notice that there seem to be two auto-brightness settings by default if you tap the brightness in quick settings there is a bright and a dim auto-brightness by the looks of it to me.....might be wrong (and I dont mean powersaver auto-brightness, that is lower again!)
Since the 4.2.2 update, my wifi takes between 2-4 attempts before it successfully connects to my d-link router, i also have an Huawei router and it`s the same, before the update it only took one attempt
Also the new drop down setting list, wifi, bluetooth ect. where is the GPS one.
John.
Videos didnt work after update
I have videos downloaded in my videos folder wich were running fine before ota 4.2.2 update. but after update video extension were not supported anymore.
i am running htc stock videoplayer only
Battery... battery took a hit, and not a small one.
I'd say 20% is just gone... and "Kernel (Android OS)" looks to be the bad guy who's ****ing things up.
battery life has gone down
Worth noting that I had massive wakelocks from 7 Digital so disabled that and my battery seems better already.....

Mine went down for the first couple of days but now seems to have settled down and if anything is slightly better.
Seems the battery needs to recalibrate over a few charge cycles.

And yes dynamic contrast flickering has stopped. Screen doesn't into an infinite loop trying to adjust the brightness on a white background screen. Need more confirmation though..

Battery is horrible, I got my update about a week ago and no improvements. In fact, after first charge since 4.2.2 battery was EXCELLENT. But since then, it's awful. Power saving mode is not working, I had it on all the time because phone would overheat in these temperatures. (40+ degrees).
I am seriously thinking about rooting my phone and installing Paranoid Android on it, I love Sense but 4.2.2 just made the phone worse in my opinion
The only thing that's keeping me from moving it's the boom sound + beats audio.

LED notifier

Hi
Just over from the Z2 forum (was going to buy one) but there are LED problems when using LED manager or light flow. Only RGB, not easy to see, doesn't always work. Had the M8 for 2 days and returned it as LED notifier was shocking. Have an S3 and want to upgrade to something different so wondered how the G2 faired in this area as a problematic/basic/small LED notifier is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for any thoughts
I am using Light Flow with my G2. Initially, I had to do a factory reset to get it working but I believe that was caused by restoration of data by google servers when I switched devices. I disabled that auto-backup and restore, reset, and Light Flow has worked perfectly ever since. BTW, do not worry that disabling backup/restore/sync with Google Servers means your contacts and calendar won't restore, this is something different). All you really lose when disabling the auto-backup and restore is stuff like Wi-Fi Connection info, a few preferences and such, which I hardly noticed.

Thanks. Do you get all the colours. Is the LED bright and easily noticeable?
Yes, it's bright and noticeable. Same brightness to me (as the Samsung GS3 which was my previous device, too). Not as bright as on my older BlackBerry devices but on those devices, the LED aperature wasn't round, it was more oval/oblong, so it emitted more light.
Definitely not a wishy-washy dim light though, but also does not completely light up a dark room at night. I feel that it's just right (subjective, of course).
Edit/Add: if you do get a G2 and install Light Flow, just get it working first before installing any other apps (other than at least one 3rd party app) JUST to make sure it's working. That way, if you do need to reset, you haven't installed all your other apps yet.
Also, I forgot to mention the colours. It supports the usual range of colours, you can also set custom colours I assume by RGB (I have never tried, as there seem to be enough colours for my use). 13 presets plus custom.

The buttons on the back are great. And you'll hardly use them anyway as knock on turns the phone on and off. So I've hardly even touched the power button.

You can disable from within Light Flow, same as I have done:
Settings > Persistant Icon > Run in Foreground (disable)
Don't seem to have this option in the latest paid version

It's not possible in the latest version. The developer explained why in a blog post: http://www.reactle.com/2015/10/changes-for-android-6-marshmallow.html

Based on my experience, it looks like that is indeed the case. If you have an active notification with an LED pulsing, the battery will drain significantly even while the screen is off. Yesterday, I had a couple of active notifications with rotating LED patterns and I decided not to clear them and let the phone sit to test the effect on the battery. It went from 40% to 27% in a little over an hour.
It's not clear to me from the developers explanation above if Lightfoot prevents dozing from working at all. But I have light flow installed and running and haven't seen doze mode yet.
