Hi Guys,
I just got my LG G2 D802. Have a few queries about setting up stuff.
Firstly, what is the PC software you need? Basically I heard its some suit and tool for the phone.
Secondly, I'm trying to install the original 4.3.1 camera apk but its refusing to install.. Do I have to root and flash it or is there no other way??
Thirdly, how does USB OTG work?
Thanks

If I remember correctly the pc software will auto install when you first connect the phone to your PC
You will have to root your phone and have a custom recovery to install the 4.3.1 camera. You have to copy the zip file over to your phone and flash it using the recovery.
You will need a USB otg cable to connect peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drive. USB dac

Yup had the proper software... New issue my battery life is dreadful.. got 2.5 hours screen time at 70% brightness and screen has only used 20% of the battery.. Android System has used 35% and Android OS 13% (its caused the phone to stay awake for 4 hours but its stopped now). I have google now enabled but have disabled the location services so that shouldn't be causing issues. Also I've only been using apps and not gaming at all. I have DS Battery Saver to force deepsleep.
Also wakelock detector is posting totally inaccurate stats. Isn't there any other app like it? HELPPPPPPPPPP!
Ok It seems the wakelocks are caused my the alarm_rtc and Power Management service. I've reduced syncing to a minimum and also turned off GPS... Additionally, does anyone know a app like Sony's Stamina Mode where wifi-data is auto off when the screen is off and no app needs it?

You shouldn't really need any of those things anymore. My advice is to just use it for a couple of days and see how it goes. Rooting it and freezing as much LG bloat as you can and using Lux to control the display is also a good advice.
WiFi uses minimal power, you can safely leave it on along with GPS and NFC and still make the phone last all day with intense usage (excluding sitting around flashing and modding your phone all day ofcourse )
You should try Better Battery Stats for getting good battery data.

That's exactly what I've used... I' managed to get 4 hours screen time which isn't bad but considering only 20% of my battery was used by the screen, I'm sure it will do much better... I'm charging it now again..
I wouldn't neccecarily interpret the battery stats that way. Whenever you have your screen on, you also increase battery consmption by associated services. I don't think the much-referenced screen on time is a good measurement as general usage pattern.
It also depends if you have WiFi where you are, and if your coverage is good. I use only a third the battery when at university with good LTE coverage and constant wifi than at work, with no wifi and poor reception.
If you don't actually have problems with the battery after removing all the LG cruft in the system, I'd recommend just being content with how it is. If the phone doesn't have enough battery to last two full days, then how much juice it has left after a day with intense usage shouldn't really matter much, providing it does last through it.

Well its much better now with the second recharge... Its about 16% Android System (Can't really do anything about this)... 12% Android OS with most of the wakelocks coming from the damm power management service... Google search was causing quite a bit of drain so turned off google now for now... Even Siri is better and musn't be causing so many damm ****ing wakelocks...

I have another general question. When you swipe up the home button to access google now and quick memo, is there a way to add more options to that swiping? I've seen a picture on Andoid Authority where you could also access voice mate etc...

Hello all.
First off, bear with me if this has been discussed before, I have searched on google and in previous threads here (including the amazing 58.5 hr standby and 6 hr. usage thread) but I cannot find the culprit of the huge Android OS drain.
The battery lasts about 4.5 hrs of screen on time , which is pretty neat but nowhere near what other people are reporting. I know the battery needs to go through a few cycles before reaching its full potential, but the Android OS drain is what bothers me. Please note that I am unrooted due to warranty issues and an unreliable rootchecker.
I have done the following:
Disabled bloatware
Disabled LG MIT (P.S Do you recommend me to change other settings from the hidden menu?)
Disabled auto sync and backup in the settings menu.
Disabled Google Location services from Google Settings, although I kept the location settings in the settings menu due to widget.
I installed Lux to prolong battery life and it only operates upon waking the device.
Installed BBS and Wakelock detector
BBS shows 154 partial wakelocks in just 3 hours of standby from WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed and NetworkLocationLocator 191 partial wakelocks.
Wakelock detector shows a fair amount of Facebook wakelocks (86 in 3 hours - could that be the culprit?) and Viber with 21 wakelocks. This makes me miss Greenify - damn!
To round this off, can anybody please give me advice on how to solve this drain? As previously mentioned I am not willing to root it just yet. Feel free to include perfomance boosting tips as well if you have any
Thanks in advance.

I don't know how to solve the problem, but I can tell you this regarding root: Flashing a KDZ file after doing a full factory reset makes the roottripper reset too, including a showing of UNROOTED in the download mode.
Awesome news! Makes me reconsider rooting my device. I would still want to know what I can do without rooting. Thanks a lot for the info ?

Use Better Battery Stats to see exactly what is causing wakelocks and GSam Battery Monitor to see what's using other things.
"A huge amount of battery" is meaningless without context. If it says "50%" but that's .5%/hr, it means NOTHING else was doing anything really.
Disable KnockON, then Android OS will shrink to a few percents in your statistics.
I have tested it out, KnockON is causing the most part of Android OS.
Via LG G2
Wifioffdelayifnotused can be caused by going in and out of service. Disable optimizing in Wi-Fi, disable disconnect on low signal, set sleep policy to never.

well. As stated in OP I am using BBS but I will try out Gsam battery.
You've got a point there, but I'm not seeing 24 hours of standby, which annoys me. A side note- if there was no' something' draining my battery wouldn't it show as "device is idle" rather than android os?

Thanks for the tip. I am well aware that knock on uses up some battery but I don't recall the people getting 6 hrs of usage and 50 hrs of standby disabling this feature. Anyway I wouldn't disable this feature even if it would give me am extra hour of usage (unless in dire need) ??
And to the last post (which I forgot to quote) WiFi is set enabled in standby and the other option is disabled. The only thing I have checked in the advanced WiFi settings is lower battery consumption when device is using WiFi. Thanks for clarifying though.
It seems like. Android os is a mystery ?

Delete.
The cpu power consumption is the biggest problem~
I had read a Chinese thread that CPU quality is the major problem causing this huge battery drain. Qualcom classified 7 quality levels. Slow, nominal, fast, very fast, ultra fast,....from class 0 to 6.(higher is better). the higher class quality means that cpu can use lower voltage to reach higher frequencies. The difference between C 6 and 0 is about 0.15V,,, :crying:
PS: [email protected](0.95V Max)/ [email protected](1.1V Max)
There has been some improvement but the phone was awake for 42 minutes more than screen on time . I posted some screenshots.

If you're connected to more Wi-Fi than cell signal, leaving this on will do nothing to increase battery usage, more so increase it. Counterintuitive, but it is what it is. This is Google software itself, not hardware. Learn before you post BS. The phone uses more battery searching and refreshing for 4G data signal than it ever will on Wi-Fi. Do what this guy says if you spend most the day in Wi-Fi, and watch those counts hit the roof. If your of Wi-Fi most the day, just turn it off until you are, all good. Why waste battery when unneeded.
So I've had the 6p for about a month now and I'm absolutely loving the phone, but I have one huge issue which is the battery life. I read online that this phone is getting 6+ hours SOT, and every charge cycle I check my stats and I'm getting like barely 3 hours SOT. I feel like this shouldn't be happening and was wondering if anyone could clue me in on maybe something I'm doing wrong. I am rooted and running the latest Chroma and also using the latest elementalX kernel. I have Xposed installed which i feel shouldn't really be affecting battery life too much. I have amplify and greenify which should be boosting battery life but those are also not working. What I do on my phone is all day snapchatting, sometimes checking twitter and some would say heavy texting. If anyone could tell me why my battery isn't getting anything near the average it should be getting, or has any suggestions it would help lots!! Sorry for the long post, but i wanna resolve this issue
Hey, charge your phone to 100% (leave it charging for half a hour after it says that it's full). Then use it normally, and when it's almost empty, take screenshots of battery statistics and post here.
Also, what are your settings? Brightness, are you using 4G data constantly etc.
What I've read, Greenify messes up Doze.

Do you go off and on your phone a lot? Like check it, lock it, check it again? I guess stop starting would describe it? If so, then 3 hours is the expected screen on time for that usage. On constant usage you would get 4 hours+, for sure.

The screenshots could indeed be useful.
As you described, you use snapchat allot. Snapchat is a real battery drainer. It decreases screen time allot, because when snapchat is open, it enables both front and rear camera and gps and maybe even more things that I'm not aware about. So basically it enables everything thats power hungry on this device. If you want to keep snapchatting allot, I don't think you'll will get to 6 hours sot.
Maybe you can use a custom kernel. I personally use the latest Franco Kernel, that kernel has tweaked some stuff so the phone uses the battery friendly cores more than the power hungry cores, without having noticeable performance loss.
But as said a screenshot would be nice, maybe you can install better battery stats (it's on xda) for even more advanced stats.
And remove amplify and greenify, you get the same or better battery results, but keeping the phone more functional.

I never use 100% brightness usually only at about 30%-70%. And yes I am always using data as I need emails to be sync'd and have many social media notifications.

Also try this:
Go to Settings > Location > Menu > Scanning > Wi-Fi scanning > disable
Go to Settings > Location > Menu > Scanning > Bluetooth scanning > disable
This was the first thing I did upon unboxing my precious.
So after doing what you guys told me to do I have gotten an extra hour out of the battery. Although yesterday I didn't use my phone as much as I usually do, due to being busy. Do you guys think this is the best its gonna get?!

Glad to help! If you do a YouTube search, there's a lot of tips to optimize our phone.
Hey Guys, Kyuubi10 back again with a quick guide on improving the battery life of the HTC One M8.
Let's be honest, this phone is getting quite old now. You can already start to feel it lagging, and slowing down. And the battery doesn't last as much as it once used to.
But don't give up hope...your M8 isn't dead yet, and with some good management it can even rival 2016 flagships.
Let's begin with Marshmallow...
If you have not updated your M8 to Android 6.0 yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
Marshmallow is the best version of Android yet, the efficiency of Lollipop with the Stability of KitKat, and a very fresh take on Battery saving!
Reasons why you should update ASAP:
1 - Lollipop's memory leaks 99% fixed (Don't want to say 100% due to the possibility of some existing out of my limited knowledge, but for all intents and purposes there are no more memory leaks.) This is very important, because the memory leaks were both draining battery life, and slowing down the device...which in turn keeps the screen on longer and wastes even more battery.
2 - Doze!!! It's the latest battery saving feature to be added to Android, and it's basically a SUPER idle state, where the phone if left untouched with screen off for long periods of time will not waste any battery whatsoever! I tested this when going to sleep, phone was in airplane mode, battery saver turned on, screen brightness at minimum...I left it at 100% charge, I woke up it was still at 100%. With airplane mode off, and battery saver turned off the phone lost only 3% battery overnight.
This being said, true battery saving is measured while using the phone right?
It's not about how long it can last without being used, but how long it can last while being used.
But what if you already are on Marshmallow, and your battery life is still not cutting it?
The following solutions are organized from simpler to more complex.
1 - Follow this official HTC guide: Tips for extending battery life. It provides tips on reducing screen brightness, keeping connections off when you're not using them (Wi-Fi, Data, BT, GPS, NFC etc...), lowering volume and vibration strength and using power saver mode.
While their advice is quite obvious stuff, and most of you probably do it anyways, I would like to stress the use of power saver mode when you are out and about away from a convenient power source. Doesn't matter if your battery is at 90%, turn PS mode on, you will barely even feel a difference, but your battery will last you much more than before!
2 - Buy yourself a smartwatch. While it may seem counter-productive to keep Bluetooth on constantly to keep connected to the watch, it actually improves battery life by helping you avoid turning on your phone's screen. At the end of the day the battery saving that comes from it may be equivalent to the drain caused by bluetooth being on, or even greater than the drain. Thus effectively saving you battery life, and being convenient while doing it.
3 - Here comes the big one...ROOT your device and install a custom ROM and Kernel. Just by installing an optimized ROM and optimized Kernel you will get battery savings + better performance. Often you will also have settings you can tweak to optimize battery savings at the cost of performance or vice versa. And with a custom Kernel you can choose one with battery saving CPU governors.
4 - CPU Governors. CPUs, just after your screen, is the second most battery consuming hardware part in your device. Especially since it is on most of the time. Choosing a governor that can make it's job more efficient can save you bucket loads of battery.
The most common one for battery life is called "Conservative", and it will provide you with considerable battery life at the cost of performance. But if you want both good performance and good battery life then you are probably looking for a governor which employs the "Race to Idle" ideology. (If you don't know what it is, do a quick google, it's easy to understand.)
A good option I like to recommend is Wheatley, but if your kernel choice lacks it then interactive will be good enough...but you will have to tweak it's settings yourself to make it most efficient. Couple months ago I created this guide which you may find helpful when tweaking the interactive governor.
5 - Since we have spoken about Rooting then let's start adding some ROOT apps to the mix. Greenify would be my first recommendation.
For 2 main reasons... 1, It helps you stop annoying, battery draining apps which keep themselves running in the background. 2, It's latest versions have included a feature where you can set Doze to start sooner than default. Thus allowing you to reap Doze's benefits earlier and for longer.
Talking about the annoying apps, there's one in particular which comes to mind....Facebook.
Personally, while I don't like it's battery draining, I also don't want to uninstall it...since it's quite useful. Thus in Greenify I found my answer!
6 - Last but not least, if you are noticing unusual battery drainage, but you can't find which app is causing it (or may even be a system app), or if you notice that Doze is not having any effect... it might mean that a wakelock is not letting your device idle for long enough for Doze to start.
For this you will need an app called "Wakelock Detector". Charge your phone to around 80-100% and place it on a desk and let it idle for a couple hours (e.g. When you are asleep). When you are back check what WD found, and it might surprise you. (I found an app called HTC Mode which was keeping my device awake and preventing Doze from starting.)
Another advantage of this app is that once you find the wakelock it links you to Greenify through which you can put that specific app to sleep. Thus preventing it from setting the wakelock again.
If you follow all these steps, you should be able to feel the considerable difference in battery life. Reminding you why you fell in love with this device
I hope I have been of help, I noticed that there weren't any Battery Guides specifically made for the M8, so I thought I would leave one here in case anyone is looking for one!
If I have helped you make sure to hit that :good: button, I will greatly appreciate it, and you will be helping the community find this guide more easily.
Thanks for reading! Enjoy your longer lasting M8!
Thank you for the Info! Before marshmallow I used "app ops" but this doesn't work on Android M. Because of the app wakelock detector I removed the messenger app from facebook. It drained my battery. Thank you.

App ops is good for permissions, and stopping an app from connecting to the internet. Android M already has a permissions feature natively included.
What you want is to stop it from running in the background.
While you can uninstall it (and probably find another app which you can use facebook messenger in. e.g. Disa), I would personally recommend you simply use greenify to put it to sleep.
All official facebook apps are huge battery drainers, but greenify will keep them in check, so that you don't have to use another app with less functionality.
Obviously I am not forcing you lol, but it is my recommendation.
It seems package disablers are pretty popular now for helping you disable some apps that you wouldnt otherwise be able to disable. It seems alot of peoples reasoning for disabling apps is to save battery but iam wondering how much battery is the package disabler app itself using? After all. Its constantly running in the back working to keep those apps from waking right??
First of all, once you disable the app, it is disabled forever, no need for PD. As far as how much saving you get? 3 nights ago charged phone 100% before sleep, wake up 98%, 2 nights ago charged 100% before sleep, wake up 80% left. That would be x10 higher power usage . I went to app manager and force stop about 5 apps and everything went back to normal. Some apps can be brutal on battery (not sure if by design or it crashed) and all those people complaining about poor battery, it's not the phone, it's some programs running in background. For example If I don't even have facebook account, why is facebook running on my phone? If you know what you're doing you could easily double battery life.
Iam not fully understanding your reply! Are you saying package disabler is the reason your battery life improved?

I think its better to have 1 app controlling/blocking multiple things than having multiple apps running multiple things and wasting battery.

I run package disabler pro and it shows as 0% battery usage with 37% battery left. I don't think the app runs in the background, it just force closes the apps that you select and disables them from running, so I think it helps your battery seeing it stops other apps from using your battery.
Is there any apps in particular recommended to disable besides the obvious? When i view the list of files within package disabler. It shows some items using ram but most of them seem to have no affect on battery life and aren't intrusive in anyway so i imagine it's just not necessary to disable them. I mainly wanted to disable Knox and bixby but bixby doesn't seem to be using any battery so again, iam not sure i need to disable it.
To make quick points in simplest way:
1. For best performance, only programs that you actually use should be running on your phone.
2. Package disabler is the program to use for system files, especially now, since we have no root yet.
As far as looking at the battery statistics, they are not very reliable IMO: I had my phone discharging 2% overnight and at other time 20%, when I looked at settings/battery/battery usage they looked almost the same in both cases: Android OS, Android System, Device Idle etc. no smoking gun and yet the phone was using battery x10 more. I do not know what caused this excessive usage, but I went to APP manager and manually force stop every non system application and all went back to normal. This is not the first time this happened to me and IMO simplest solution is not to have unnecessary software running on my phone, less chance for the programs to go haywire.
