Clock/Alarm - No landscape mode? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use my phones as my night clock and alarm clock. My last phone was an S3 and I have a cheap little stand that I use to stand my phone up while charging it at night. I notice that when my alarm comes on in the morning that the screen is in portrait mode although my phone is actually sideways in landscape mode. My S3 didn't do this as my alarm was in landscape mode so I didn't have to deal with a sideways alarm clock in the mornings.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a new "feature" of the Note 4?
Thanks.

I also notice the built in "clock" app actually has no clock. The only tabs I see are Alarm, World Clock, Timer and Stopwatch. Where did the desk clock go and why does none of this stuff rotate into landscape mode? What am I missing? How does a clock app have no clock?
This is on a non-rooted Canadian Note 4 running Nova as my launcher.

After a lot of research, it seems the stock touchwiz clock/alarm app has been severely neutered. I downloaded Timely from the Play store so we'll see how that goes....

Alarm clock app like the original?

I just switched over to the new CM7 yesterday and am quite happy with it thus far, except for one thing. I really loved being able to set the alarm clock app by spinning the wheel to the correct number on the original ROM. I'm guessing this was part of the Sense UI setup. Is there any alarm clock app that has something similar? I've downloaded a couple and though obviously the widgets and UI differ, they've all had the same boring + - to change the times. Thanks in advance
yeah, the spinning is part of the sense ui. but now that you bring it up, one thing i miss is being able to use music to wake up to, instead of 'beep beep beep'. i don't want to have to download another alarm to have that :-(
If you use Handcent SMS You can set Music to the Alarm. It allows you to set music to just about all your ringtone & Notifications.
I know it's not ideal to download another alarm app, but there are two small ones in the market (I'm talking kilobytes) that are awesome. "Good Morning" can wake to music with text-to-speech telling you the time, weather, news, etc. AppAlarm can wake you to Pandora or any number of other apps as well. Both work amazingly.

Solved Wallpaper / landscape problem

I have been trying off and on for several months to get my scenic wallpaper to show up properly when I go to landscape orientation. For some reason, the bottom half or even two-thirds of the photos got cut off. (Portrait mode was great!)
Last night I tried a new (to me) launcher called GO Launcher Ex. I use Wall Switch to change my wallpaper and there, in landscape mode, my wallpaper was suddenly displaying correctly! (Portrait mode still looks great.) I switched back to ZEAM, which I had been using, and landscape was screwed up again. I am using 1200x1024 resolution and made no other changes - no resizing, etc. I have no idea why this launcher does it right, but for those who are still looking for a solution, you might want to try this.

[Q] Nexus 7 homescreen-does it rotate?

Does the stock nexus 7 home screen rotate like a regular android tab into landscape or portrait, if not then i will need to get a launcher to remedy that problem. Does anybody know if that could be changed to have the homescreen rotate, if it cannot?
It does rotate as usual.
My life for Aiur
i have never seen that happen in any video though?

Surely you are joking?
There are videos of YouTube being used etc.

I have gone through every video I could find on youtube and not one of them showed the tablet with its home screen in landscape mode.
This review says it was clearly meant for portrait only because most apps dont rotate. I wonder if all the demo units just had auto rotate turned off?

Another review that says the home screen does not rotate.

There's an icon on the notification bar that locks the orientation to portrait or landscape or lets you have it free, most likely the presentation unit had it locked to portrait. Must say it would be weird as heck for a tablet to be made for portrait mode.
Also, awmagawd, the first review has a white version of the Nexus7, love it.

I have looked through many YouTube videos too and didnt notice it either, I hope with rooted, the home screen could rotate.
Wondering the same thing! I definitely hope it rotates...

I haven't seen any video showing landscape mode either. But soon enough custom launchers will be updated for JB and the problem will be solved. Nova and apex are updated quite frequently and I would assume they have plans to implement the new Jelly Bean features.
I've read reviewers who've stated that it does NOT rotate the home screens. I suppose they all could have missed the rotation lock, but it could easily be just for apps.

hopefully nova will update by the time that the things gets in all of our hands.
The screen rotate as expected

That's an APP rotating, people are talking about the 'launcher'...
I use my tablets in landscape more then portrait, so although I trust all rotatable apps will be fine, it's disjointing to go back to the launcher and have it 90 degrees out..
The Verge said,
One thing that struck me as odd, however, is the fact that the homescreen doesn’t have a landscape view. As in, you cannot turn the tablet to landscape when you’re on the homescreen. It’s actually a bit frustrating when you move from a landscape app back home — and I can’t figure out why Google would have removed this functionality, which was present in Honeycomb.
What I find mostly odd about not having a landscape launcher mode is the fact that the pins on the side for the to be released dock would allow the tablet to be docked in landscape! Perhaps there will be a separate dock launcher?

It will look a little silly sitting in the dock Asus announced today.
I have jellybean installed on my Galaxy Nexus and the homescreen rotates perfectly.
so i don't understand why it wouldn't rotate for them unless autorotate was off.
My TF does it but my Galaxy Nexus never has (and it doesn't on Jelly Bean either). I think it's one of the differences between 'phone mode' and 'tablet mode'.
3rd party hacks can enable homescreen rotating on ICS so it won't stay fixed for long.
Google wants n7 to be used in portrait on the home screen and it does not rotate idk why they did this but its something that can be changed by devs.

You guys think this is just for applications?

Rotate clock in daydream mode?

I have the phone on charge at night and the daydream mode clock is great but as I have the phone on a stand on it's side (landscape), the clock is laid on it's side too.
Is there any way to make the clock rotate to landscape like it does on the Nexus 7?
Not that I know of;
Well for now. Maybe 4.2.2 will allow that.

this is a known bug. the clock will have the orientation of the last app it was running. so if youre running a launcher in portrait mode before it starts daydreaming, then it will be portrait. Minor bug, but they should fix it soon.
That is actually quite interesting. I do not have this issue. The rotation works with Daydream running.

I was having another play today and noticed that if I manually set it to daydream the the clock rotates freely with the screen.
It is only when daydream is initiated automatically when plugged in it sticks in landscape.
On nexus 7 it DOES rotate freely even when auto started.

That's because the settings menu will flip to landscape and back freely, where the home screen will not. The homescreen will rotate on a tablet, however, which is why it works on the 7. This is pretty frustrating. Hopefully they fix it.
No landscape for Daydream - Still not working after all these years
This is still not working two years later. I'm now using a Nexus 5 with Androind 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), and daydream will still not go into landscape when the last screen was the homescreen (which will almost always be the case for users who take their phone out of their pocket, plug in the charger, and put the phone on their nightstand). It's much easier to read the time from bed when the disply in is landscape, and it's easy to "tip" the phone into landscape (e.g. by leaning the phone against a book) because the charging cable is on the end (bottom) of the phone.
This need seems a no brainer and should have been fixed a long time ago. I don't understand why Google would overlook something so obvious...

Vote on this Bug in Google's Issue Tracker (Issue 40226) by "starring" the issue "Daydream does not automatically switch vom Portrait-Mode to Landscape-Mode when on homescreen"
Since I cannot post URLs here, do a google search for:

Screensaver clock not rotating!
Just found a trick for my phone. I have a feeling it might work for a lot of people. Make sure an app that can go into landscape mode is on when the phone goes to sleep.

[Q] Did samsung purposefully make the timer/clock app worse?

Hi all, I'm on the at&t version of the note 4 and am on stock obviously because of the lack of root yet. On the note 4 every time I set an alarm it sets it up so it repeats weekly which gets annoying and also the timer app doesn't allow more than one timer at a time. I was on cyanogen mod on the galaxy s3 and it performed these tasks flawlessly. It feels like its dumbed down and all the clock/alarm/timer apps I looked up did not help much either(wanted access to all my data, pay to use more than one timer, alarm clock extreme ended up draining my battery more than anything else on my phone). Any suggestions anyone?
On a side note, I'm using nova launcher and because of that it doesn't allow calender widgets that shows your events its just a crappy calender with the date on it. Any suggestions for this either?
Thanks guys sorry If I come off mad. These have just been bugging me.
well get rid of nova launcher and use samsungs s-planner for timer, alarm and calendar.
