I have an N9005 that is really struggling holding a decent connection
My network (Three UK) only has 3G towers and uses a different network (Orange) for 2G
My friends Note 3 (on the same network) switches between the 2 seamlessly, and he has 3G 99% of the time. I have 2G 99% of the time with 3G connecting very rarely, and even then the connection is very unstable and will quite often cut off
My girlfriend is on the same network and has perfect 3G signal.
I have just recently had my phone repaired for a broken screen (network issue started before the screen breakage) and they replaced the motherboard (I now have KNOX 0x0 wooo!)
Even with the new motherboard the signal is terrible and now, WiFi won't turn on. I hit the toggle and it turns a faded green colour before going back to grey. It will not turn on. I didn't have this issue before sending my phone off.
I had the network issues on both TW and CM based roms and now the phone is 100% stock untouched.
Could this be a hardware or SIM issue?
And would reflashing my stock firmware fix my WiFi issue?
Would this keep KNOX 0x0 in case I need to send it back to Samsung?
Any input is much appreciated
The attached image is the networks my phone picks up, notice it doesn't pick up 3 (3G), just 3 (2G), but other networks 3G and 4G signals are picked up.
Quick bump
For any future searchers with this issue, I sent my phone back in for repair, it's most likely a hardware issue

Hi all,
Been having some problems recently on my wife's Nexus 3g (tilapia). She had it for about six weeks now, I rooted it and installed PA on it (same as my grouper).
Everything was working fine until recently, 3g stopped working for no reason that I have been able to figure out.
What I've tried and noticed so far:
Clean install (full wipe) of PA, and also tried different custom roms - 3g not working
Tried the simcard from my phone to rule out network errors (since I'm on a different network) - still not working
In notification window, 3g coverage bar shows blue when wifi is on, asa it's turned off, a little H appears next to 3g bar, which straight away goes grey and stays that way until wifi is turned back on (this is all in range of wifi network, 3g icon does the same thing if i move far enough to lose wifi access). Strangely enough the carrier (Telstra) shows on my lockscreen, but any attempts to use the connection, like playstore, browser, go sms, all return a no connection error. Also when wifi is off and 3g icon is greyed out, the device sometimes crashes (hardlock) when trying to unlock the lockscreen (maybe unrelated).
Flashed back to stock following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32075129&postcount=1 - problem still remains
APN settings have been tried on both auto and manual, no luck.
At this stage I'm starting to think this may be a hardware issue with the 3g modem and thinking of just returning the unit altogether.
Has anyone had anything similar happen?
EDIT I've returned it on warranty
Hi All,
I have a Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910F with BTU firmware N910FXXU1ANK4 (UK) which I flashed from the older O2 UK firmware N910FXXU1ANJ4 when I bought it.
I am having problems receiving calls and making calls when 4G LTE is enabled on the phone (I get 4G signal bar). When someone calls me my phone rings and the signal bar is 3-5 bars usually and when I slide to answer the phone it seems to answer (timer starts clocking up) and I can't hear anything (sometimes for a split second) and the other person can't hear me, then the person is directly kicked to my voice mail!
If I try to make outgoing calls with 4G enabled it sometimes works but other times it sits there saying "dialling..." then after 10 second or so gives up and stops. If I do manage to call out I get terrible phone recetion breaking up and high pitched noises sometimes. Sometimes it is ok for a while talking but eventually the call drops at some stage.
If I force my phone into 2G only or 2G/3G only then the phone seems to work completely normally.
I have had multiple SIM swaps with no luck.
Samsung walk in repair centre was useless as the empolyees all appeared to be undertrained kids.
O2 was no use saying there is no transmitter faults reported in my area.
Before I try a hard reset and flashing back to the old O2 firmware and then possibly sending my phone away for repair, is there anything else that might be going on here? Has anyone else seen this or know if it is a known problem?
Cheers,
Richard.

Most mobile providers still don't support VoLTE (don't know if that is the case in UK) so your phone needs to go down to 3g/2g when phone call is received.. So maybe there is some problem between BTU and O2 firmware (I am no expert, but may be CSC related)..
I suppose your network selection on 4g/3g/2g automatic mode, not LTE (4G only)?

I only have the option of :
LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) - Have the issues with this mode
WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) - No issues in this mode
WCDMA only - not tested
GSM only - No issues in this mode.
In phone dialer hit settings. There should be a volte toggle if there is turn it off.
I don't have any issue like that. 4G turns to 3G or 2G when receiving/taking a call. May be u hav an issue with ur firmware
I've tried flashing back from the BTU UK firmware back to the original O2 UK firmware and the problem remains. I also tried a hard reset afterwards leaving the same issue.
I have noticed that the issue does occur with 3G as well as 4G but it seems to be a bit more stable. 2G seems the most stable.
I have arranged with Samsung to send my Note 4 for repair so hopefully that will resolve the issues.
I have the same problem using 4G. Sent for replacement. Waiting for feedback..
got information that warranty service did find the problem and in a week or so I will get new one
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!! THANKS A LOT !!!!! I WAS LIKE CRAZY TRYING WHAT CAN BE WRONG WITH THIS....
In my situation i can
send and receive sms on all mods
I can call in 4g but i can't receive calls when im on 4g... - just only hire is a issue
Last time my charger when i was charging in night get burn and i think meybe form that time... i have phone 3 weeks brand new.
Hi guys
My n9005 has been having mobile connectivity issues for a while now. I'm not very knowledgeable about mobile networking and standards so I need some help diagnosing the problem before I either find a setting to alleviate the troubles or get some hardware replaced. For your reference i think has been caused by dropping my phone quite a few times so there is likely a hardware issue, i just want to better understand it to see if theres a workaround before i go spending money!
My phone works flawlessly when it displays its connect to 4G or H+ networks. However when it drops to 3G it usually does not send or receive any texts, calls, and I have no data connection.
I have fiddled around in the service menus and tried setting the band preferences to GWL, WCDMA & GSM, LTE Only, etc etc, with not much luck either having no connection or having the same issue. For reference I don't have 4G coverage at my home only H+, but when I was on holiday in the middle of no where at the National Park (I live in New Zealand) I had 4G connections the entire time with no dropping.
Now I have no idea what mobile networks use what standards/protocols so if you could recommend a setting change or identify what I should get replaced that would be great!
Cheers
Hey guys,
I've been using my Note 4 for a couple years and it was running smoothly before but now it started showing issue, I hope y'all can help me with these problems..
Problem 1: Dual-Band WiFi Connectivity Issue
My N910G could not connect or even find any 5GHz frequency WiFi connection(neither my home WiFi nor the others),
but it shows no issue connecting the 2.5GHz frequency. My home router is working perfectly fine and my other devices which supports 5Ghz band have no issues connecting to my home router so I don't think this is the router at fault. I've tried reset my N910G to factory setting, at the setup it miraculously connect to the 5GHz band without a problem but as soon as I turn the WiFi off or leave it after a while, it disconnected and it does not show any 5GHz after that.
Problem 2: N910G Poor Cell Signal Strength
Okay, now this is a bit tricky. Recently, I changed to a new cell company and sign up for a postpaid package with LTE data only, the sim card is new but as soon as I insert it into my N910G and reboot it. The signal strength of my phone only range from 0 to 2(which is from -80dBm and above) and rarely reaches 4 or 5(highest) but I still can connect to the 4G network, it's just the signal is very poor. At first, I thought it was the sim card at fault but I tried trying it out on another phone and it works just fine.
Can someone help me out with these two problems? Is it because of faulty hardware or software? Does flashing a new custom rom helps to solve these problems?
i have same proplem with 910f is reading sim card and ther'es no signal :'(

I know right. It's very frustrating.. :crying: My one can't even use 5GHz WiFi..
I use MVNOs because I am on a tight budget. With MintSim and MetroPCS which use T-mobile I had a below average signal on this phone and with Boost which uses Sprint I had a dreadful signal. Currently I'm using a Verizon MVNO which has an excellent signal except for one issue. The signal will be great for a day then it will become poor. The signal strength will not return to previous strength unless I power the phone down for a minute and then turn it back on. Then the signal will be great for about a day again until it goes bad and I have to turn the phone off and on again.
I tried a factory reset which didn't help. Toggling airplane mode on and off doesn't help. Rebooting the phone instead of powering off doesn't help. Changing the preferred network type in settings doesn't help.
If I type *#*#4636#*#* and change the network from LTE/CDMD/UMTS (Auto PRL) to one where LTE is replaced by a different network and then switch back to LTE/CDMA/UMTS that restores the strong LTE signal but powering the phone on and off is faster.
I could change the APN settings with T-Mobile but with Verizon the APN settings are greyed out and there is no way to edit the current APN or add a new one.
Mobile Data Always Active is already enabled in developer options.
Does anybody know what I could do so the Verizon network strength doesn't eventually drop requiring shutting the phone off and turning it back on to refresh the network connection?
I have owned a lot of phones over the years but never one with signal issues like the PH-1. Essential support won't help because they escalated my ticket to RMA when I was still on T-Mobile. Since an RMA would provide me with a refurbished phone that somebody else probably returned due to the signal strength issues I would rather figure out how to get my current phone to work right with Verizon if that's possible.
When I went out I had no data despite the signal meter showing a strong signal. It turned out my phone had the wrong APN (Verizon instead of Trac Wireless) but unlike GSM carriers the APN settings are locked so TotalWireless (which is owned by Trac Phone) had to send my phone the correct APN. My data actually works now and so far the signal has been very strong but it's too early to say if the same signal problem I wrote about will pop up again since the APN was only corrected a few hours ago.
If nobody else has experienced a similar issue with the quality of the Verizon signal losing strength after the phone has been asleep for an extended period of time then maybe my phone is defective after all. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the signal still looks good when I wake up tomorrow.
