Coming from all 3 previous notes, I've had this for a week and just miss having root. I miss my viper audio, and miss all the theming options I had. While it's a nice enough phone, it just doesn't seem leaps and bounds above my rooted note 3. Not enough to warrant waiting for root which may or may not happen. Had strongly considered the nexus 6, but 32gb of storage on at&t is a deal breaker. I listen to a lot of music at work through my BT, and the cure tech in viper audio really helps my tinnitus. The edge screen has a lot of potential but sorta limited for now, although I do like the notifications, that part is cool, and really is an improvement. But overall, I gotta have root. So I guess I'll go back to my rooted note 3 and watch for developments here.
You'll be back. Root will come. LoL

When I upgrade my oldest daughter gets my hand me down, I'm giving her the edge and taking back my n3. Pop in the SD card, restore, and back in business. I kept my backups just in case.
You will be back. After ome week have no root which is painful I finally made it. Install exposed and some module. Now it is a super phone. Battery life increase significantly and smooth like silk.

I like the Edge in its stock version. I do agree that the edge screen is limited right now, but I'm sure it will soon become more useful. I have the Note 4 also and it offers that little twist to the N4 with the edge screen.
?
why should we pay £700 for a phone and then have to mess about to get better battery life etc??
...because you paid £700 for a device, complete with all the crap nobody uses!
Although, to each their own.

That's my question too. I would really love the stylus for work. I think I would use it all the time, but I am stuck with Sprint for at least the next two years.

I think galaxy note is targeted for specific people.
Personally, I will not buy it, because:
1. it's not nexus (fear of being left behind in terms of updates+features)
2. Too big for my pocket
But I see that it has usefulness that I heard web browsing is so much better due to bigger screen. The bigger screen allows reading, watching and typing better.
About stylus, I think its a gimmick. Unless you have something like iPad size (which still limited that you have to write like you are using a crayon), writing in touch screen is cumbersome.

It's freaking huge. Have you ever held an iphone? Yeah, I'm comparing apples to oranges, but the phone is huge.
The Dell Streak, compared to this, is longer and thicker, but the Note is wider. There are some videos up on YouTube with people putting the Note in their pocket and making calls and it's really not that big. Heck most cordless landline phones are bulkier than the Note.
Also if it gets ICS with the new version of TW that is less inttusive , that would be awesome.
I put a comparison pic of the note and the gnexus and an article up in the rumor thread. Ill find it.

You wants the note
I can tell
i like the Note
its dope its lil big for me i suppose for a phone
i mean the s2 is a 4.5 inch screen
thats even big enough and well
since its fast and responsive i wont use the pen much
It's a Kenny Powers reference: NSFW
But yeah, I really want the Note.
AT&T has had the note for over a month. Used it for 2 weeks...it was OK. Barely fits in the back pocket and made my Epic feel like a toy. AT&T Hspa 4G is the biggest crap going but once LTE is spread out more it may be useable. The CDMA version will be called The Journal and rumored to go to Verizon and maybe Sprint.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Well, been using my GS3 for about 4 days now and I must say that I am somewhat underwhelmed by it so far. The jump between my EVO to the Epic 4G Touch was much greater than that from the E4GT to the GS3 (as expected). However, there are 3 gripes that I just bothering me more than I initially thought they would:
1. Camera - The Epic 4G Touch's picture quality is light-years ahead than that of the GS3. This is really unacceptable for a flagship device. Sure, the shutter speed is quite fast, but the quality is just not there. Part of the reason I skipped over the Galaxy Nexus was the camera inferiority to the E4GT and here I am with the GS3. The HTC EVO LTE at the store seemed to take amazing pictures. Haven't compared them side-by-side, but I feel I'll be more disappointed if I do.
2. The power button - I don't see a lot of people complaining about this, but I'm having a difficult time adjusting to the power button. The curved bezel in conjunction with the flushness of the button makes it hard to find/press it most of the time. Even though it feels quite clickable, it takes some digging around every time I need to use it. I'm hoping that the Slim Case I ordered will help with this as the cutouts will guide me better. It's a small gripe, I know, but it's enough to annoy me.
3. Speed - I know that this phone will smoke most of the competition, including the E4GT, but I'm not really blown-away by it. Once the apps are opened (which I admit to being quite fast), it seems to take longer for the information to download and appear (Play Store, Facebook, etc). I don't know if it's the connection or the phone itself. Never had this issue with the previous phone.
That's about it really. I know it's nothing major, but it's enough to taint my experiences. I'll give it another week before I decide what to do with it. But I'm really leaning towards the HTC EVO LTE (even though I find it hideous) or just going with a Galaxy Nexus (and not have to worry about future upgrades, etc).
Sorry about the rant... just had to let it out.
Speed -
You don't feel smoothness , and fast information because android
The problem is not the device , its the software
Android is still "buggy" , i have Asus Prime Tegra 3 -and i dont feel smoothness
Maybe next android version will be more smoother and faster
Just return it and stop complaining

The power button on mine is not quite right too, it is less flushed against the bezel compared to the volume rocker and creaks at the touch, it also feels spongy when pushed. That's not enough to slate the phone though because I know the capabilities of this beast hence I'm waiting for my exchange. If yours is the same ill advise you to do the same.

You're using the Sprint version right? If so, why are you posting in the international GT-I9300 forum?
Plus, it's already been quoted in several reviews that the US versions have a slight lag during usage that the international version does not. Just return the phone and move on.
@Stea1thmode: Thanks bud! Will do!
@everyone else: Take your meds and learn to deal with criticism.
This phone was really smooth for me. Bur my major problem is not being able to get into download mode.
The screen is also mediocre. =/ Wondering if I should have bought LG Optimus 4x instead, I only picked this phone for the custom firmwares..
There's nothing worse than having an S3 on Sprint. It's bad enough that you have to deal with the inferior CPU, but also the non-existent LTE network that is set to debut sometime between now and when hell freezes over.
why do US variant owners come to the international section to B!TCH and complain?????

I don't necessarily love that.
....It's just that Samsung is clearly the front innovator here.
As soon as they step up product manufacturing quality and get their commercial vector to focus, they will be on their way to absolute "portable communications + media devices" market dominance (...they may need to get someone new to achieve that focus...).
Myself, I am thinking about this:

Flexible is one thing but can a crease be made in the display by accidentally folding it?
My wifi 7.7 finally came in yesterday. Thing is leaps and bounds over the Nexus 7 I had. Screen is absolutely superb and the speakers are great. Best part is I dont have to worry about it falling apart in my hand like that dam Nexus. When I got it out of the box it was on HC but immediately flashed up a message for the jump to ICS. Im really surprised how smooth it runs on ICS. Ive tweaked it to my liking and disabled some of the crap. But all in all im extremely pleased with it.

Considering my N7 was 250 and my 7.7 was only 270 through Verizon with mobile data for $10 a month with no contract plus a way better screen, better build quality, and looks way better totally worth it. Tegra 3 isn't all that. I don't mind the lack of development so much but I really wish samsung would support this like it really should. There are tabs still being released as new with similar hardware specs and have jelly bean and will still get updated. This tab really shouldn't of had HC out of the box when it was released IMO.

In 11 days I will have owned this for 1 year and I am blown away that there is not yet a tablet I would prefer over this one. The Note 8 would be nice, but without the AMOLED screen, I still prefer the 7.7.

I laughed at the advert part of that samsung thing when the guy puts the tab on the table with the flashing lights on it.
Howdy everyone,
I am planning to buy a Galaxy Note 4 by end of upcoming January. I always used to be an android player (Had Samsung S3, Note 10.1 and HTC One M7) but I bought an iphone 6 plus as I was really curious to get my hands on ios on a bigger display. I like the iphone and how it functions but it is really so simple in a way that makes a raw performance demanding guy like me feels dull and bored. Do you guess a Note 4 is my best buy? Or do you have other recommendations? Thank you.

With any luck Lollipop will be on the Note 4 by then. Could make a fast phone even faster. I think you'll want to see reviews on LP on the Note 4 before you decide.
I've been using nexus devices for the past two to three years and wanted to try a phablet device. Got the Note 4 and I'm loving it. Touchwiz will take a bit of getting used to but once you slap on Google Now launcher, Nova or whatever suits you, most of the in your face stuff goes out of the way. The thing that I'm loving most about the device is the battery and camera. A recent software update from Samsung has increased the battery life and also addressed a lot of the lagginess with Touchwiz. Overall, the experience is smoother and much better. After recently rooting my device, I've been able to get rid of most of the bloat on the device as well. Overall, I think it's a good buy. It is a pricey device though so you might want to weigh your options before making a decision. For me the screen, battery, camera and how a large device like this feels in my hands makes me happy with the decision I made. The build quality on this is the best compared to all the other Note devices that you'd have come across in the past.

once I use it
I think my S7 edge has finally bitten the bullet unless anyone has any suggestions? After almost bang on 4 years of ownership and wonderful faithful performance I wouldn't have considered getting rid. Yes, the battery is a bit weaker than it used to be and the camera is ageing everyday, but it was still a very decent phone to use.... the best phone I've ever owned tbh (longevity unmatched).
Unfortunately:
When charging (switched off, right hand side you can just see the little circle):

Booting (flashing like it's having a seizure)
Switched on, brightness not at absolute highest
I can just about make it work if I set the brightness to the absolute highest (past the warning regarding brightness levels) but the left hand side of the screen flickers dark and bright a lot and it's not usable for long periods.
With a black screen, you have this brightness difference between left and right
I am guessing the OLED screen has finally packed up. Always on Display actually works okay.
Are there any suggestions?

Can do, although I'll be honest I don't see how a reflash would fix it, especially as it's doing it on the immediate boot logo which is before the ROM right?
I'm already preparing for the worst. Gutted though. Found my old Redmi Note LTE..... god it's crap in comparison.
Need to work out whether to buy a phone now or wait for a few months until some decent 5G models come out at a price I like.

The same behaviour in DL mode. It's goosed and if we're honest, a screen replacement isn't worth it.
I've been trying out the Redmi Note LTE today, which to be fair, I ****ed off for the S4 and it's fair to say I know exactly why I stopped. I know Xiaomi make great phones these days but my word they were in their early days back in 2014 or so. It's so so bad.
The S7 Edge works, more or less, on full brightness mode only. So I will continue to use it, badly, until it does finally day or until the right 5G phone comes out.
it's the worst time for my phone to die
