Hey.
I'm just wondering where does one find flashable zips of radios aka modems for the 900F?
Radios like these but flashable in recovery?

That is the right place, you can't flash them in recovery ever, only in odin.

But is it possible to make flashable zips? I mean it was normal to flash a radio zip in cwm on previous galaxy devices. Or maybe flash in something like mobile odin?

Yes, you can use mobile odin to flash baseband but not modems. But I think odin is more reliable.

Wow. Ok. I'm at a total loss here. So Baseband and modem ain't synonyms? Then what is radio? I thought that radio/modem/baseband were the same thing, just different words. That's how it is in the S2 SGH-i727 Skyrocket community, my previous phone. And the modems/radios over there were easily flashable via recovery. :silly::cyclops:
Here's an example of what I mean with flashable radio/modem.

No, not the same thing, if you go to your original post site, the instructions there are perfect for no problem Flashing and really there is no practical way around it.
Also make absolutely sure you are using the right ones for your phone or you may make your self a brick.... Just sayin.

Ok. Let me explain myself.
On my previous phone, the galaxy s 2 skyrocket, baseband/radio/modem are just words for the same thing. In the skyrocket xda forum that's how it is. And when we wanted to flash a baseband/radio/modem we could just download a zip and flash it in recovery. Some other phones radio were also flashable on our S2 Skyrocket as they had similar or identical hardware (T-Mobile S2 and Note).
I am not looking for instructions and I'm absolutely not going to flash a radio for a device with completely different hardware on my S5 (if that's what you thought).
I am simply wondering if it is possible to do the same thing on the SM-G900F as on the SGH-i727 as far as flashing radios.
If not, then why not?
If Radio/Modem/Baseband aren't synonyms in the S5 scene then what are they?
These are the questions that I am curious about, not instrctions on how to flash or getting brick warnings.
I've got a pretty good clue on what I'm doing and the risks involved. If I hadn't I'd be posting this thread in the development section like a total idiot (noob).

I know where your coming from, and am not insinuating you are a noob, but when talking about modems and such, one has to be over cautious so as not to be misunderstood and cause problems.
As far as modems, you must stay with in your model, I can flash modems for SM-G900W8 ONLY but I can flash from different regions and countries in that model (currently using latest Puerto Rico modem and boot) , but I cant use any 900f modems or bootloaders what so ever. And when you look at your posted site you can see all the different models and warnings not to mix them up. The devices are similar but still different.
This may help explain my point

It's not hard to use odin, in fact it's very easy. But I think that you're missing the point. The new question is why can't we flash in recovery? Not "can we flash in recovery?". Do you understand the question?

Hello,
Just as the title suggests I am curious if I am able to use a I9505 rom on a I337m S4? It seems that theoretically it would work considering the hardware is the exact same (correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm just curious if it were to work could I potentially run into issues with the baseband being different? Sorry I'm really new to this whole flashing thing
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
PhantomMango
Yes. I used foxhound for a while on my i337. I had to use an auto-loki recovery but you won't need to if you have an i337m. Just make a backup and don't flash i9500 roms.
Sent from Alpha S4 courtesy of Jamison904, mrimpossible, gharrington, tunasty and other great devs.
Really? I had a whole thread on this question lol well atleast someone answered it somewhere else. I had the impression you could not since i tried to flash a rom from the i9505 section and it did not boot after that. I had to use one from here , It didnt make much sense why they wouldnt be compatible in the first place. So you can use roms that are from i9505?? Maybe I had a bad flash ??
Did you flash a kernel from here right after flashing the rom? I would download a kernel and the loki-doki zip. Try the kernel first and if it doesn't boot, try Loki-doki zip then boot. Like I said, I used foxhound for about a month not one issue.

Wow thanks for the replies everyone!
But I just have some more questions, when choosing a custom ROM do they already come with a kernel or do I have to "supply" my own that made for my is particular carrier? And I assume it would just be trial and error to find out which kernels work best with a particular ROM. Or should I just use the custom Kernel that the ROM developer suggests since I337m has an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks,
PhantomMango

You may have run into these issues if you have the ATT i337 -- as posters above have said, you'll need to apply the loki patch or otherwise your device won't boot.
i337M (Canadian) users, to my understanding, should be able to flash i9505 ROMs as is, given the unlocked bootloader.

I believe some stock kernels will work, not sure if all will. I used Omega on my i337m with KTs T-Mobile Kernel and it worked really well.
Thanks for the feedback so far,
But I just want to be 100% sure that I am able to flash this ROM on my phone after rooting. I am wanting to flash this ROM using this guide so can somebody again provide reassurance to me that this would work on my I337m phone and not brick it. I just don't want to cause any confusion with what I meant by custom ROM (In this case AOSP).
Thanks,
PhantomMango
I wouldn't follow guides outside of XDA. There are plenty here that have been proven to work. Read the ROM's OP and first/last 20 pages at least. Your're bootloader is unlocked so no loki-doki needed.
For Canadian, you want the TMO kernel from here--the TW Jellybean 4.3 one and follow flash instructions in KT's OP there

Always Nandroid before flashing new things and have sdcard backups on pc as well as the Nandroid

HI. I just got my S4 today. I come from having an S3 for the last 6 months - flashed and rooted and whatever.
This Knox stuff confuses me. I have spent half the day reading about it, and still don't entirely understand.
I'm in the UK, i just got a blue S4 on EE from P4U (so it is not simlocked or carrier branded), XXUDMH8.
I just want root so i can restore my messages with Helium and debloat with systemcleanup. The bloat is KILLING the battery, omg.
Can anyone give me advice? My Knox is still 0x0 though i dont know if it matters with P4U either way with respect to warranty...

to me, Knox is about warranty only if u are sending yr device for repair.
that's what Samsung has implement on 4.3 firmwares.
other than that, u can use it on a daily basis, with knox 0x1.
keep checking the thread until the dev or any other threads comes up with a knox solution.

I'm either thick, or addled from too much new information coming from S3, which was so easy compared to this.
I cant even see the link to a plain mega rom. I dont want wanam or exposed or any of that, i just want stock with root so i can debloat because my battery is running down so quickly...
edit: got it. still want to try and avoid tripping knox, if i can. I dont want Wanam... do i need it?
ACTUALLY: i like the look of Echoe 5.0 - since it wont trip the Knox, can i flash that instead? I'm quite familiar with Odin so that isnt a problem, and with modems too, and kernels, etc...

Happy for you! On the other hand, I am a newbie eager to know how to flash the newest ROM, the "Echoe v5 plus". I have the same XXUDMH8 version and i have a white Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505. I have never done a root, but as i have understood so far by reading the past 3 days (day and night): i have to enable USB debugging, i have to ROOT it first with Odin and CF-Autoroot. Then i guess i have to RECOVER/BACK UP with philz touch 5.18.5-i9505.tar.md5 file, again in downloading mode (Volume down+Power+Home, then volume up to accept). after that i should be able to FLASH the newest rom (currently uploading by friedrich420) i hope i am right about this, because i asked people around and nobody is willing to help me so far and one more thing: i am really confused with the MJ5 modem flash...do i need to flash this modem version BEFORE or AFTER i flash the echoe v5 plus ROM?
Thank you in advance, any helpful answer would be more than welcome.

I didnt use CFautoroot because i read it triggers Knox.
I also read custom recovery triggers Knox.
Normally you'd want a custom recovery like philZ (i had it on my S3, its brilliant) and then once you have root you're free to flash whatever rom you want. Modem you'd only change if you keep getting dropped signal for the phone. Odin is cool, also you can flash zips in PhilZ / clockworkmod recovery.
BUT. If you want Knox intact, the only, ONLY method so far, is to use the thread linked further up, get a "Megarom", flash it, then do what it says with the .sh and the folder, and that's it, do nothing else.
I have done this, but i havent done EchoeRom -yet-. I want to (!!!!!!) -- who doesnt want a phone full of Pink Floyd OMG.
I've tried going through the topics, but none seem to explain it into depth.
I have no idea what MF3 means, and whether it even applies to my phone, which is the i337m (Canadian).
Can someone explain where to get the latest version of Odin and how to use it? I've downloaded the correct 4.3 firmware off the SamMobile site and want to flash it back onto my S4, what should I do?
Also, can I use Odin to flash ROMs and kernels?
Thanks.

You can't flash roms and kernel with odin. You need a custom recovery for that. You don't have to worry about mf3 on the i337m. Here is a guide for Odin. It's not for the i337 so don't use any files in it other than odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924
If you have no idea how to use ODIN, or what MF3 means, or what being on a Canadian phone means, you definitely do not need to be doing anything to your phone. The best way for you to get educated about everything is to read the "pinned' threads in the General and Q & A sections. They contain information you need to know about your phone and what it is you might want to do wit it. In case you get all upset about having to read (If it upsets you), it is the XDA rules and they exist to help you from bricking your phone. Good luck.

Too late now....I have Gummy 1.1 installed on my S4.
Hi Everyone,
I just got the sm-g900w8 model of the Samsung Galaxy S5 from TELUS (Canada)
Is this "kltecan" ? Where can i confirm that
I've had some issues with lag and wanted to give a pure stock/AOSP rom a try
I'm experienced with modding android phones but i'm new to the samsung space
Before i brick my phone, i wanted to be 100% sure that i can follow this thread with the model i'm using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699648
That will give me root and recovery
Will i need to use Odin to flash everything or can i unlock the bootloader and use fastboot/recovery
is there any benefit to TWRP over CWM? I've been using TWRP for a while and want to continue using it...
Then what AOSP rom can i try out?
I see forums for each of the american mobile providers but dont know which one in particular would be best suited for Telus and/or g900w8
Thanks!!
Just found the CF-auto-root specific to the sm-g900w8
http://download.chainfire.eu/406/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltecan-kltevl-smg900w8.zip
So:
1. boot into download mode on the s5 (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot)
2. plug it into my windows machine
3. manually install the drivers
4. open odin.exe (included in cf auto root zip)
5. select the cf-auto-root.tar.md5 file in the PDA section of odin and tell it to flash
on a successful flash, the phone should reboot automatically
let it boot up to normal android, and i should have root
to flash twrp i follow the above steps again but now select hte md5 for the twrp recovery instead
correct?
bump!!

That's why flashing the sprint 5.0 leak is working so well for people, is it, or does that g900 not count towards the 'anything' as you claim? Its great that you want to pipe up with incorrect information and look like a jerk off in multiple threads, but you're still wrong. So quit making Canadians look like assholes, and quit giving advice that will fu(k peoples phones. Hit the search tab for once, maybe even read a thread or two, and find out what happens when you flash the wrong boot loader for the wrong device.

Just found the CF-auto-root specific to the sm-g900w8
http://download.chainfire.eu/406/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltecan-kltevl-smg900w8.zip
So:
1. boot into download mode on the s5 (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot)
2. plug it into my windows machine
3. manually install the drivers
4. open odin.exe (included in cf auto root zip)
5. select the cf-auto-root.tar.md5 file in the PDA section of odin and tell it to flash
on a successful flash, the phone should reboot automatically
let it boot up to normal android, and i should have root
to flash twrp i follow the above steps again but now select hte md5 for the twrp recovery instead
correct?

So from my quick google search, the 0x0 comes up after root and is some kind of warranty flag?
any way to restore it back?
EDIT: the 0x0 flag turns to a 0x1 once the phone is rooted. Some people apparently have been able to keep the 0x0 flag after using towelroot?

Once the Knox warranty bit has been tripped, there is currently no known way to reset it. There are root methods that don't trip Knox, but I've not yet actually rooted my S5, so won't advise specifics on that one. You will want to look for 'no Knox trip' or some such thing if the warranty issue concerns you.

Good to know thanks
See, this is why i made this thread!
Wait, so now i have to re-ask, but i assume that simply going to https://towelroot.com/ and downloading the APK will work for my model correct?
android 4.4.2 as well i believe
And if so, obviously i dont need to use Odin to flash the cf-auto-root anymore!
but i still need to use odin to flash TWRP
root must be done first?
Or can i flash TWRP without root?

Sorry dude I can't help with that knowledge. I haven't done it and don't want to give bad advice. I do know that towelroot is only supported up to a specific firmwares. (Example: nf1)

Flashing TWRP will trip Knox as well, if you need to keep knox 0x0 then there are threads helping you to keep it that way, but you will always be jumping through hoops to keep it that way and be some what limited to what you can do.

You can use any ROM that is ktle. Im currently using cm 14 in the unified android thread. If you want something more stable but like cyanogenmod then go with the cm 13 in the albinoman thread. I use the smaller version of gapps like nano.

Thanks but I figured it out why I was getting that error.
I had to go to settings>security>reactivation lock and unchecked reactivation lock...
