Lollipop update for gpe live - G Pad 8.3 General

I have the update installed on my tablet right now. I pulled the update from cache and am working on uploading the file now.
and here it is

Restore to completely stock 4.4.4 here.

Also, there seems to one thing left out of the instructions. Don't plug your phone into the USB until after sitting up the file paths in lgflashtool and hitting the arrow to begin the flash. After the message reads ready, then plug in the phone.
Although you initially have to connect the USB to set up the driver before getting to the above step. Its a tricky process and took me a little while to get to work.

Also just had the system update notice on my gpe, downloading now. Hope it is a good update on the gpad

What if I am rooted
Would it be a problem to get back root? I actually need to be rooted for some stuff I do at work. I ask because I do not see a big developer presence for this tablet.

I got the OTA but I had forgotten that I still had TWRP installed even though I'm on the stock 4.4.4 rom and not rooted anymore. TWRP interfered with the install and now it says my system is already up to date! Grrr.
Would it work if I just flashed your file via TWRP?

Thanks for the quick reply! I suspected that much and I've been trying to find a "back to stock recovery" tutorial for the last hour but failing, so I really appreciate the link. Cheers.

No problem. It was a bit frustrating to get everything to work and not very straight forward process. Would be much easier to just push the stock recovery in fast boot, but I couldn't find a file anywhere. It may be possible to extract it from the tot file from that thread but I couldn't figure it out.

Same here, no stock recovery anywhere. When I first bought the tablet I thought it was gonna have developer support like crazy, but no, it hasn't gained much traction unfortunately.
I'm doing the LG FlashTool thingy, but I don't see any movement in the tool. The tablet is in Download Mode and the tool looks like this: http://gyazo.com/47c9009fc9f90bffa582890d0a8e1587 No feedback whatsoever... is it working? Should I just be patient, do you think?

Any idea where can I get the factory image?

My update finally works!
My Gpe Gpad only has root and Xposed. I uninstalled Xposed and removed root but OTA was still failing with a generic 'ERROR' message. No details. However, when I sideloaded the update, I got the message "system/etc/permissions/platform.xml has unexpected contents". I figured out which app modifies this file. It's called Kitkat SDFix. This Play Store app modifies this file to enable read/write access for external sdcards. The developer makes a backup of the original platform.xml file (in the same location - system/etc/permissions/). So all you need to do is rename the modified platform.xml into anything else and rename the original backup back to platform.xml. You'll need a root explorer to achieve that.
After that the OTA works fine for me. Hope this helps someone else. Not that I had no custom recoveries or kernels so this process is for people who only had root and Xposed.

When you plug in the tablet it shows up as LG-something-something in Windows Device Manager. It was showing up as COM4 though, after changing that to COM41 I didn't have problems anymore. Did you do that first? The option is buried under a menu a couple of clicks down but it's there.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to restore to stock with your link and apply the 5.0 update. The port was off on mine, so that tripped me up a bit at first.

Trying to go back to stock but having problems with the LG Flash Tool giving me the Download user image is only available in the online environment!! error message. Any ideas?
Edit: Never mind. Got it working.

[Q] 4.2.2 OTA killed touch screen

Hey,
So I received the Nexus 10 this morning, signed into my Google account, downloaded a few app updates, then it said the 4.2.2 update was ready. I let it install and reboot, but ever since touch is not working at all on the device. It boots fine, but it won't unlock as it doesn't register the touch.
I've used the Recovery menu to restore it to factory defaults, which it did, but touch still doesn't work (I can't change language etc). I've downloaded the official 4.2.2 ROM, the SDK, installed the USB drivers, but ADB Devices doesn't find it. I guess this is because I can't enable Debugging Mode.
Can anyone offer some advice? Yes, I could return the tablet to Google, but I head back to the Middle East in a few days and I should imagine the turn around time will be much longer than that.
I'm happy to install any custom kernel, recovery mode etc. to try and restore it. When booted, Windows Explorer will allow me access.
I've Googled as much as I can, but most things rely on being able to enable the ADB link.
Many thanks.
You dont need ADB to install the stock firmware, it uses Fastboot. See here:

Thank you for your help. Although the above process did re-flash the tablet with the downloaded 4.2.2 firmware, the touch screen is still not accepting any input.
Google only host the 4.2.2 image on their site, but the post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003731 has the 4.2 version. I shall download that and try again.

I guess this will have to go back to Google / Samsung. I don't know what the 4.2.2 update did, but it appears to have completely killed the touch screen!

Sorry for not providing any help, however it's a bit strange that flashing a firmware break the screen.
I just received my tab yesterday then flash 4.2.2 OTA without any issues

Please don't worry about not providing any help; I appreciate that this one is an oddity. I was just hoping that the OTA had goosed the drivers or some-such, and that re-flashing it would help, but alas no.

Well, as above, I tried the original 4.2 and that didn't work. I haven't seen the 4.2.1 image anywhere, but can't believe that would make a difference when the other two haven't. I've also just tried a touch-based recovery and that also doesn't respond to touches (TWRP). Oh well. :crying:
I'm at a loss of what to do now so will have to send it back. Pity, it was great when it did work!
Thanks for all the help.
I've contacted Google Play. They went through a reset then agreed to replace it. Will return it as faulty for a refund, and purchase another to save time. 32GB this time, seeing as they are now in stock!

Phewwwww...scary...The 4.2.2 has been sitting on my task bar forever now but I am still resisting actually installing it. This thread might scare me away even more...Why fix things if they are not broken.
A better topic for your post: "My touch screen happened to stop working after I installed the 4.2.2 OTA" .. but it may not have caused it.
Hardware can break at any time.
I'm holding off on letting 4.2.2 install itself because I read that it breaks Adblock in Firefox. Not sure what 4.2.2 will do for me, but I want Adblock to work!
Edit to add: also just read the thread here about 4.2.2 causing sloooow scrolling problems in Firefox. So if you use Firefox, don't let 4.2.2 install!

friend accepted sprints new OTA. Phone wont boot past TWRP

So, I rooted my coworkers Sprint G2 or LG LS980 using IoRoot a month ago and had TWRP installed on it. prior to doing this I had looked into what it would take to revert it to factory unrooted unmolested state. didnt seem to hard with the lgFlash tool and what not....
Well two days ago he accepted and tried to install the new OTA. he was on ZVA firmware, and I believe the new OTA was for 4.4... well the install of the OTA failed im pretty sure do to TWRP being installed instead of stock recovery. instead of stopping there and calling me he tried to fix it himself... I believe one of the things he did was to wipe the device. as in advanced wipe, select EVERYTING including system....
He gave it to me today rather pissed and asked me to fix it.
Ok, I have bee through MANY threads about reverting back to stock, and it seems I am having a serious driver issue... In my laptops device manager I can see the LS980, but it has no driver installed. I have downloaded many different versions of the LG drivers from various tutorials here and on other websites. I even tried to find them on LG.com, but no luck there.
I can get it into download mode, holding vol+ and plug in USB, but once I try to connect to it via LGMobile Support tool or LGFlash tool, they do not detect it. it tries to load three different modems, and the center one always fails. is there anyplace I can get JUST the driver, not the entire self extracting EXE files?
I was just going to copy a ROM onto the internal storage, but even using the mount tab in TWRP it will not connect to my computer.
PLease for the love of all that is sacred to XDA help me!!! I sadly do not know much about ADB... I have never really used it. at this time it is not installed and I wouldnt know what to install and how to ADB Push a rom onto the phone...
Edit, here is ONE of the tutorials I tried, but since I cannot get the proper drivers installed this hangs when I click the yellow arrow to start it....

okay so have you tried the following from this thread-
If you DONT have ADB access (because of an early build of TWRP), you can simply use TWRP's awesome "terminal command" option to run the following:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
You'll have to type that whole thing out, and be VERY careful with spaces and punctuation. One wrong letter and you could nuke your phone.

Yea, I have been trying that method... my issue now seems to be that one of the drivers is not installing correctly. So I cannot change the device to port 41. And the app will not see my phone. When I get off work tonight and can use my laptop again I will try downloading advanced and setting that up and see if I can make it work that way. I also read the other thread that was linked last night looking for the two terminal commands to try, both the fota, and the miscellaneous command... found the commands, typed them in, and now my phone boots to the LG logo and my notification light starts scrolling through different colors. I can still get to both recovery and download mode though, so I am not giving up.
Also in that thread someone mentioned koush's generic adb drivers... I downloaded those and will try that as well.
Basically if I can just get my darn laptop to connect to this phone I think I might still have a shot at reviving it.
Multi color led makes me think, wing kernel. Like installing zvc kernel over zva system modem.
You may have to uninstall all lg drivers, and reinstall
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Well it was running fine until he tapped accept on the ota so I dont know how he would have gotten the wrong kernel.... I have uninstalled the drivers a few times and reinstalled different versions. There is always one that fails when I plug in the phone. Plus I get a message on the device about mediadata unknown, or not found.... something like that. I know before he called me he tried the wipe option in twrp. I know on my galaxy s4 we were not to use the wipe data command in there, I'm thinking he did...
But I can still get to download mode so if I can get my laptop to recognise it I have faith I can lgflash tool it back to life... if I can get the drivers to cooperate...
Quick update on this... I found a tutorial on using adb and managed to sideload a rom, derp milestone 1 I believe it was, and after it completed the phone booted up just fine. My friend wanted it to be reverted back to its stock unrooted state, so I tried LG mobile something or other on my laptop... you all know, the one where you hit options then upgrade recovery and it should download and flash stick software? Well it saw the phone, and said there was no upgradeable software on it... mind you the phone still has a working twrp 2.6.3.3 on it... I don't know... I tried LG flash tool, but i can't get it to be port 41 for that to work... but at least the phone boots and runs fine now.
Still having my driver issue though. When I plug in the phone windows installs 3 drivers. One is CDC driver which always fails. No clue why.
Any ideas?

[GUIDE] Unroot for OTA using LG PC Suite (PC Only)

This guide is for use on rooted stock roms to restore the phone to a position where it will accept OTA updates.
Please note the following:
1. It does not wipe the /data/ partition of your device.
2. It will reinstall any bloat you have uninstalled including those apps that you carrier put into /data/
3. It will remove any files you have added to /system/ including root or other modifications
4. Any files you have "frozen" will stay disabled, you cannot unfreeze them without rooting again - this guide will be for a "full unroot" so there is an optional step below to unfreeze apps.
The Guide
1. Download LG PC Suite from LG's website - you must select model type before you do so, but as far as I can tell it downloads the same version regardless.
2. Update the app so it recognises the G3 - this should ask you to update automatically on opening the app, if not you can do it from the "help" menu.
(NB: if you have used some of the KDZ flashing methods on here you may have issues updating as your hosts file is probably altered to block the PC Suite gaining a connection).
3. Connect the phone via USB (the app allows for a wifi connection but this is very restrictive, you require a USB connection for this).
*OPTIONAL STEP* If you want to go back to a truly stock experience then unfreeze any apps you have frozen (I am unsure if having apps frozen will effect OTA installations, it should still work fine, in theory).
4. With the device connected go to the "phone" menu in PC Suite and select the option that says "Restore Upgrade Errors".
5. It will then scan your device, download the rom and begin flashing, this is all automatic without any further input from you, do not cancel it.
6. The phone will reboot when finished. You are now unrooted and unmodified and OTA's should work.
*OPTIONAL STEP* If you want to go back to 100% stock then its probably a good idea to factory reset your phone at this point - this will wipe your whole device (of course).
And there you have it, your quick(ish), painless method for being able to unroot to accept OTA's without requiring a wipe.
Nice thanks Lenny, that may be handy. I'm supposed to receive mine today from Amazon.de, will play around a lot with root / unroot
Strange. Every time I click on restore errors it hangs for 30 secs and then LGpcsuite exe stopped working message and it stops. Any ideas ? I'm using windows 7 64bit and all drivers installed, pc recognizes phone.

Could be a conflict with something else - to get it working for me I had to delete all traces of LG from the pc - all LG apps, drivers (including using USBDeview) and start over.
First of all, thank you for your detailed tutorial. Yesterday I have had the same idea... can someone confirm this theory... though there is no update for international version yet, someone with the korean model?

I tested this theory yesterday, albeit without an OTA - it does replace all modified and removed files in /system/ as well as removing any files you have added such as root or xposed.
There is no reason for the phone to continue to report that it has been modified, certainly if you take my final optional step and couple this restore with a factory reset.
Gotta love it when manufacturers make it simple to go back to 100% stock without any real messing around. Thanks for this :good:

fixing errors is a reflash to fix a problem, it shouldn't matter what version your on, are you sure you didn't click the check for updates button by error?

As I said I never get this option. It keeps on saying you have the latest version and that is it.

The latter screenshot, did it give you that message after "scanning the device"? It might be that it scanned your device, found nothing altered so then said you were ok?
Perfect
Lenny thx alot. I was waiting for that. Because I wanted to make sure I can have OTA and root.
great :highfive::good:

Weird, no idea why it won't be working for you, I have only been able to test on the D855 and have had no such issues.
Hopefully someone else who has the FK versions can shed some light.
Thats the thing. If its the phone version's (using Korean version) issue then how come the PC Suite recognizes it ?

VK810 bricked. Need help

I could sure use some help. I rooted my VK810, then...using ROM Toolbox....I changed the start up animation. That was the wrong thing to do. Now every time I restart the tablet, in portrait mode, the screen stays black. In landscape mode, only the right 1/3 of the screen is visible (the rest is black). It does not matter how I turn the tablet, it's always the right side that is black. I have tried several Master Resets. Occasionally that will bring the screen back (tho usually not), but every time I restart, I'm right back to square one. I really need to reset it back to stock, but I'm finding VERY little information on how to do this. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
btw....the tablet did upgrade to 4.4.2, before it was rooted.
Thanks,
Dan

One or two of any of these will get you there. By the way, have you tried restoring a backup in TWRP recovery?

The first option certainly appears to be the easiest option, though the VK810 is not mentioned anywhere in the thread?
Thank you very much for your help!!

It's not specifically only for the VK810. It's an LG tool for the PC for downloading whatever appropriate newest ROM is for the particular device that's hooked up to the PC.
The downside of this option is that unless you take extra measures, it'll delete what it downloads after it's flashed your tablet. What it downloads is the same as what I put I think in the second link (my upload of the 23A KDZ). If you either download the KDZ manually using another tool in one of the other threads, or save what it downloads (you can copy the file while it's doing the flashing), then you can use that other tool to reflash it again if it becomes (hopefully not) necessary in the future. No sense repeatedly downloading the same large file(s).
It'll get you there no matter what, though.
And you're welcome!
Since I was already in the process of downloading the kdz file, I am just using "option 3" from your list. When I get to step 14, it says "Then open shttps folder and run http". I found the folder, and the file "http.cfg", but when I attempt to run it, I get the attached message. Am I missing something?

I haven't had to use the offline fix stuff so I'd consider that optional. Sorry, didn't realize that the link in that third post led to more complicated instructions than what I've used. All you need is the KDZ, the LG USB driver for the VK810 4G, and the LG Mobile 2014 tool.

How can I root my Asus Zenpad S8 Z580C?

I been looking around and havent found anything on how to root my device. Is there any info on how to root my device? Its upgraded to Android Marshmallow
bump
I've been looking for over a year
I've been looking for an answer to that question for over a year now. From what I've found it can't be done once you upgrade to marshmallow. If you downgrade to Android 5 you can though. There's instructions on how to do both on this site. I had rooted before upgrading to to marshmallow if you search "root Asus z580c" on here you will find the instructions easily but it only works on nugat. This is something that's been driving me crazy for months now and every once in a while I do a search to see if someone has found a way to do it...that's how I came across this post actually...but no luck. I've considered going back to android 5 plenty of times but for me there not that many apps I use that I need it rooted for anymore anyway. The biggest one is adblock but if you search for an app called DNS66 its an ad blocker that works really well and doesn't require root. its not just an ad blocking browser its an actual app. Good luck.
This pisses me off on a cellular level. This is such a good tablet, spec-wise. But Asus dumped updates after a year, and it seems like no one is interested in trying to crack it open. Which is a shame, because debloated, this thing would run so well. The screen is fantastic, the size is great. But all the Asus bloat on it infuriates me. I hate ZenUI, and while you can use a different launcher, it doesn't remove it all-together (for instance, the pull down menu stays as it is). If anyone is trying to do work on this front and needs a tester, I'll happily lend a hand. I'm nowhere near skilled enough to DIY, but I can certainly follow instructions and get you logs and crap.

I'm struggling to find an update to Marshmallow for Zenpad 8.0 P022 380C. You say you've updated...do you still have the zip file with the code please? I'll make sure to root the tablet before I upgrade after reading this thread...

I tried it from a Linux laptop as I couldn't get Win10 to recognise the tablet at all...
I changed the script to point at local adb/fastboot rather than the ".mac" executables, so it should perform exactly the same actions - and all seemed OK to begin with - but one of the reboots after a flash stage never returned to a screen... and now it refuses to even start up.
Whether it was something I did, or the script, I cannot say...
is it possible to flash the stock rom via fastboot ?. I have twrp installed, but it gives me error 7 when I try to flash the stock ROM.zip. And the tablet doesn't turn me on either, it stays on the asus logo. thanks
