Can't Flash Stock Or Custom ROM - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi again! My Nexus 10 was having problems with permissions in the DCIM folder, meaning the camera couldn't take photos or videos. I booted into recovery and deleted the folder and its contents, and then the tablet bootlooped. I booted back into TWRP and formatted system, cache, and data, and reflashed the Lollipop 5.0 rooted ROM, and it bootlooped again. I went back into recovery and formatted everything, and then flashed CM12 Nightly KANG Lollipop, and it still bootlooped. So I went into Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit, selected "soft-bricked/bootlooped" and clicked the button to return to stock. I followed the instructions, and when it got to "pushing system" it errored, saying "Data Transfer Error (Unknown Error)" then (waiting for device). It does this no matter what android version I tell the program to install when flashing to stock. On the Nexus, the "Fastboot status" says "FAILEDinvalid partition" and then it changes to and stays "DATA2817caa8". I've scoured Google for 4 hours, and have tried everything I could find. Any help is appreciated, as I got the device used off Amazon, and it doesn't have a warranty, and I can't afford a new one. Thanks!

Update failed n stuck at google logo

was on 4.3 JWR66Y with stock kernel, unlocked bootloader, rooted - super su, busybox & a Custom recovery i.e. TWRP.
with Few Mods i.e. 4 way reboot, battery circle & Custom softkeys.
my nexus 4 showed OTA 4.4 update notification, i followed process - it downloaded OTA & accepted "reboot to install", automatically restarted to twrp nothing happened further. so i did factory reset to try again but found out that the downloaded OTA file was gone! & it shown "no latest update" later i manually downloaded "KRT16S frm JWR66Y" zip (238.9 mb) frm google/android server & tried to flash using TWRP, well it aborted saying some error in the middle of flashing (flashing didnt complete). So i wiped cache, dalvik etc (excluding partition & internal storage) to try flashing the file again. Worst thing is the "reboot to system" says "there is no OS you still want to continue?" stuck at google logo. (did read somewhere to rename zip file to update.zip unfortunately it didnt work)
good thing is i still have access to fastboot/bootloader and of course TWRP
what are my options ? use NRT to go back to 4.3 stock everything & then try to update again?
Please help, thank you XDA..
(could not find any other similar thread i.e. rooted, twrp, unlocked bootloader, with few mods etc.)

If you have the zip you can sideload it. Or you can flash the factory images in fastboot mode. This is post here for the guides. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47762352&postcount=2

Trying to install cyanogenmod to nexus 4, I cannot flash it through TWRP recovery

I am trying to flash my N4 with cyanogenmod following the official wiki.
I'm at the point where I've installed TWRP into recovery, I've wiped everything (I've even formatted them since I couldn't wipe all of it initially), and the only error I see is "unable to mount /usb-otg".
Then, I've "installed" the CN zip files for the 13 and 12 versions, none of them works in the sense that when I reboot the system, I'm always coming back to TWRP.
What's wrong? Any suggestion?
Thanks
I've the same problems with my nexus 4

Hi gerardgerard,
I also wanted to flash my Nexus 4 with Cyanogenmod 12.1. So I installed TWRP into recovery and wiped everything, like it's explained in the wiki. I can also see the error "unable to mount /usb-otg". When I want to reboot the system I always get back to TWRP. Cyanogenmod doesn't boot correctly. Did you find a solution for the problem?
same problem
Hi
I'm having the same problem. As follows:
Cause (my mistake): I have been using Cyanogen-mod nightlies for a couple of months on my Nexus 4, and made the grave mistake of leaving the phone to upgrade one night but without it being plugged in properly - and it ran out of power part way through! (At least, that's what I think happened).
Fortunately, it would boot into bootloader and I could use adb/fastboot. I (re)installed TWRP 2.8.7.0 (from my Mac, using fastboot). And that works fine - I can boot into twrp ok.
Next I loaded the latest nightly from cm (using fastboot - is this what people call sideloading?) and used twrp to install it. It goes through the installation fine (the only error message is that it can't mount /usb-otg). But when I reboot it just goes back to twrp.
I then tried installing the earlier cm nightly that I know worked, but with the same result.
Finally, before I first installed cm I did a backup (using twrp), and I have tried recovering that. It seems to do all the right things, but again when I reboot it just goes back to twrp.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
J
Flash back to a completely stock ROM and run through the set up to make sure everything works. Then copy CM to the phone, reboot to fastboot, flash twrp, immediately boot into recovery using the volume and power button without leaving fastboot, wipe data, cache, system, flash CM, reboot.
If the phone will not boot after flashing a stock ROM, boot to fastboot, flash the userdata.img file, and immediately go to stock recovery without leaving fastboot, wipe data/cache, reboot.
It works now!
I managed to fix the problem ... I found this guide for the Nexus 5:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
and I applied those instructions. It didn't work first time, so I just repeated them and now it's working. I used the 5.1.1 stock downloaded from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam.
I guess this is what audit13 means in their post - so thanks are due there.
I will next reinstall twrp and cm and I don't expect any problems with that (having done it successfully before).

[Q] Failed flash, stuck...

I was running xXx 4.5, and decided to "upgrade" to 5.0.
I did the usual, wiped data/system, then flashed.
I got stuck in a bootloop, and found I had to double back and wipe /data.
I did that, got stuck at the boot animation.
If I go back to recovery, all the data is jumbled, I assume encrypted? I flashed a different twrp for 8.0 compatibility, no change.
I can't push/sideload anything (roms, recovery zips sideload fine), it fails.
So I flashed the stock recovery in fastboot, rebooted there, and tried to sideload via adb the stock 8.0 flash files.
Now it works at it for a few minutes and just comes back as "Installation Failed".
Where do I go next? All i can get to is recovery, fastboot, bootloader.
I've already factory reset/wiped everything, so don't care if I lose anything anymore.
Help?
Thanks.
It appears I found a solution, just a few posts below my own! I hate it when that happens.
Anyways ,

seems to have got the ball rolling, I was able to copy files to my phone while in twrp, which I couldn't do before, and currently have xXx installing. The first time it installed it didn't ask about encrypted/decrypted and didn't give me any warnings, this time it did.
xXx still won't boot after flashing, trying stock full flash file..
edit 2: Was able to flash full oneplus update file and boot. had to do a factory reset after rebooting as it was crashing a ton and wouldn't get through setup. It's been running fine since though. Now I'm a little skittish to try again, there are some root features I'd really like to still have.
I have a OnePlus 5 phone stuck in the Fastboot mode, been contacting them for days now but I still keep hearing the same excuses that the matter has been escalated to their tier 2 tech support team Nd would be contacted. Please is there a way to copy files off the phone in this state before it's flashed?

I'm stumped on this (Rebooting into TWRP)

I've had this happen before on other phones, usually fixed by just installing a different rom or restoring a backup. Not here.
I finally unlocked my bootloader on the XT1607 (the Motorola site just randomly worked one day), installed TWRP & the 7.1.1 Soak Test (from here). I forgot to backup 6.0.1, so I backed up the soak test which was booting and working flawlessly. I was using it for a while, but I did a factory reset inside TWRP and it randomly said "cannot mount storage" and when I rebooted, it was into TWRP. It wasn't working at all, so I got LineageOS 15.1 and flashed that. Same error, "cannot mount storage" and back to TWRP. I went into Wipe>Format Data and then reinstalled Lineage. The "cannot mount storage" error was gone, but still booting into TWRP. I tried AOSP Extended, CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android. roms with gapps, roms without, with & without supersu or magisk. Nothing worked. So then I thought that restoring my backup (of all partitions) would fix the issue. It didn't, still booting back into TWRP. I'd also like to mention that plugging the phone in still worked, I can view the files in file manager, sd card works, etc.
So, no clue what to do here. What's wrong? It all started with that simple factory reset from twrp.
edit: I found that if I boot into bootloader and press start it will go into android, but hardly a permanent solution.
Same thing happened to me but my issue resolved after restoring back to stock rom with stock recovery and after that u can again flash twrp it will work fine

Heyyy, thanks man. Worked like a charm.

Nexus 7 read only?

Hi,
I have 2 nexus 7's (2012). One started boot looping a while back but it was on my todo list (and I still had a working one). Then I decided to allow an OTA upgrade to 5.02 and broke that one. I've used NRT 2.19 to reflash stock kitkat (4.4.4) and got that one working again. Having dug out the tools I then tried to fix my other one. It won't take. It seems like I flash and nothing happens. I can't even get twrp installed. NRT boots an image of twrp ok and I've managed to push the twrp image local storage and used twrp to install but nothing seems to work. It says it worked and something worked to fix the other nexus 7. It's like the flash is still locked even though it says it isn't. Any ideas?
Thanks
BTW TWRP gives some errors which are odd. When I try to wipe I get "Error opening: data/data/com.google.android.music/cache/logs:main/com.google.....2011361.log (I/O error)" and also "Error opening: data/data/com.estrongs.android.pop/shared_pref/runtime.xml (I/O error)". I can see these files with TWRP filemanger but I can't delete them or the folder they are in.
Also if I go to downloads then I can't delete a file there either. And since I have repeatedly done wipe date/factory reset I don't know why there is anything in downloads.
