Do you have to push on the button all the way on the edge of it? If so, then yeah that's normal. Mine only works on the very edge of the button. If you press it anywhere else it won't go in.

more like i have to stick my fingernail in to get it to work. doesnt work at all with my case. im trying to find if the droid maxx sim tray is the same. then ill just order that part
Oh, hmm. Yeah mine definitely isn't that hard. Did you try pulling the tray out and resetting it? If that doesn't help then I don't know. I guess your best option is to warranty it out, since the rockers don't really look the same between the Maxx and Turbo.
Replacing it, its a shame I set everything up before realizing. Also was good battery model

the u/2 button stopped working and starts randomly pressing itself every time i turn it on... and it randomly presses itself during texting as well and the u/2 button doesnt work its kinda getting annoying now.... can any one help or have any suggestions on what to do.... thanks
any ideas?
u/2 ...? What is that...?
It's probably similar to what happened to my Toshiba laptop. I'd get a pattern of letters/symbols when typing on it, because the case/keyboard screws were too tight and it spontaneously would generate these signals. I'd bet something smacked your keyboard or it was pressed too hard and something broke inside.
It's probably not user repairable, at least not easily, and probably a warranty workable item. Flash back to the stock ROM and send it in, especially if this only occurs when using the slider keyboard.
Hope it helps, even if it is bad news.

the u button on the keyboard.... and i dont have warrenty on it because i bought it off ebay and i live in canada its a tmobile phone. theres no way i can fix it? like it presses itself when i turn the screen on and sometimes when im writing texts.... but the actual "u" button doesnt work when pressed
It can be fixed, but I don't think it will be easy. That is, if it is similar to what I am thinking. If you're daring, or desperate, you can try disassembling the unit to see if something is cut or pinched, causing a short.
Is anyone here familiar with the hardware side of this unit?

I think it doesnt make a good contact with the mainboard.
If you press the button, does it feel different then other buttons..?
Otherwise it could be alot of things but the best thing to do is to take it to your carrier store.
Maybe they could do something for you.
nope the button feels just like any other button when i turn off the screen and turn it on it dials 2 a few times... and when i text sometimes the u button repedetly comes on the screen.... =( its so annoying
Recently the end key button on my Titan has become a button that I need to press with a good amount of force on the very left or right side of it to have it work. I have ruled out a ROM problem (was using a prior DCD rom, now using 3.2.6) and I have never dropped my phone or had any extreme pressure/vibrations.
Has anyone else has this happen? The button still sounds like it clicks like all of the other buttons. Are there instructions out there for taking apart the Titan, or at least the front of it?

how do you carry your phone? My VZW case would press my down arrow in and that caused alot of issues with the arrow. might be your case just wearing it out. remember, you dont have to drop it to wear out the metal contact underneath the button.

I carry is in my right side pocket in my pants, without anything else in there (keys, etc). I've had it since January of this year and babied it pretty well so I'm just surprised that with normal usage the button would become that hard to press.
I guess my options are taking it apart to look or bringing it to Verizon.
i posted a similar thread about the End key not to long ago... I had to press it extra hard to get it to register, then it just finally stopped working... i then had to use the touch screen end button... I got tired of it, so i took it back to sprint and they replaced my Mogul for free (as of 10/27/08). i also had issue with my keyboard, which keep repeating certain letters and having to type very hard to make them work. I searched and found a zip-file program that fixed that issue... but if you cant find a solution to the End Key problem, take it back to the store and let them handle it.
The Titan keyfix cab has fixed many of our problems with the keyboard and hard keys. Worth a shot I guess...
was your phone insured to be replaced?
Hello all,
I have not rooted my phone as of yet but plan on doing it. I used to have a G1 and moved to the slide. The biggest problem I have is I like to keep my phone in my pocket at work, but have to have the phone off. If I barely tap the phone's power button it turns on and I end up either pulling the battery or putting my phone in my lunch bag (praying no one takes it).
Anyone know if it is possible to change the power button to need a long press to turn on instead of a short press? Alternatively moving the power button to the genius button would work too.
Any ideas?
Can't you just put your phone into silent mode? Airplane mode? Or turn off the mobile network.
Unfortunatly for me to be able to have my phone on me it has to be off. It is a government facility and its their rules. I may be outta luck but figured I'd ask the fine people here.
Thanks!
It can be done

I looked and in my keylayout directory, I have 3 *keypad.kl files, a Verion 0, 1, and 2... whats the deal on those?
Edit: Eh, doesn't really matter. None of them clearly had a "GENIUS" label. On was called SOFT RIGHT, which may or may not be it...
i was mainly looking into them last night, made bachups of course, tonight i will be playing with changing things and seeing if it works, i figure i will start be changing the A key in each version to something different(comma in one, period in another and something else in another) then we can see which version the phone is reading(i would think it would be v2 but idk) and then we can start remapping those buttons.
not sure how we would change power to require a long press though
May I advise a hard-case?
The idea is that it adds a layer around the phone, and this makes the power button indented. Protecting it from accidental hits.
1/8 of an inch makes all the diff.

So in the creation of this abnormal problem, do you do anything abnormal? For instance, are you poking around in your pockets? Does your Government job require any running and jumping where as to cause crushing of objects into your pocket? Can you carry the phone in an exclusive pocket? (i.e. just the phone, no keys, loose change, peanuts, hard candy, etc.) food for thought...

Nope, just an average guy sitting at a desk working with computers. I have nothing in the front left pocket of my pants other than lint and my phone normally. Thing is...the slide likes to slide around and all it takes is a tap of that power button. I wouldn't never know it was turning on if it wasn't for that annoying T-mobile sound (which I'll get rid of eventually if this problem is resolved).
I've also had the phone slide out of my pocket before and keeping it still in the car while listening to pandora can be interesting. I'll have to look for a good all-purpose case that could fix all these small annoyances I guess lol.
Didn't see it posted in here, but if you can boot into Clockwork Recovery using the update.zip in the root thread, under the Advanced menu, you can do a Key Test, and every key you press, it's key # is displayed. None shows up for the Genius button. This is probably because of what was mentioned before, being mapped by software, or something...

i know it isnt a solution to your problem, but if you power off the phone while in silent mode, it wont play the tmo sound when powering on the next time.
Not a solution, but it may keep you from being discovered if it does accidentally happen.

Not to sound like a smart ass but if you cant have it on when working then why keep it in your pocket? leave it in your car.
You maybe better off getting a case to keep the phone on your hip and out of your pocket. I personally don't like putting my phone in my pocket unless its a flip phone. I bought a case for cheap off of Ebay.

Side note, as there seem to be possible issues with dust collecting under the bottom of the screen glass, may not be the best idea to keep it in your pocket unprotected anyway.
Do what I did, buy a holster from T-mobile. I basically have to do the same thing as you but only in my budiling! (Government facility also) reason I don't leave it in the car is that I like to have my phone with me in case I need to make a phone call outside of the office.
The holster keeps you from acidentally pressing the power button and its comfortable on your hip and its convient.
I just keep mine in the cloth case that came with my G1...if you still have it its worth a shot...it keeps the button from being pressed...

So i've been dealing with this for the last week or so and I finally decided to stop searching and scouring the internet and ask for some help from my XDA brethren.
I don't exactly know how or why, but all the hard buttons on my HD2 do not work anymore. Volume up and down, pick up, home, menu, back, and hang up buttons... all not working. They all stopped working at the same time.
I don't really care except for the fact that I cannot wake my phone up after it locks/sleeps. I tried an app called Shake and Wake with no luck. Any sugguestions? or should I just look for a new phone? I really don't want to give up on my HD2... we've been through a lot! Thanks a ton you guys, I really appreciate it.
If I were you I would head on over to the nexus one threads and ask the question.
That phone only has one button, and some folk have had that not work, so they are used to the problem, and I'm sure they will have a solution for you. Worth a try anyway........
Button Savior - free from Market
Jadrobe, I really like button saviour but that still doesn't solve my problem, how do I wake the phone up without any buttons?!!
do your volume buttons work? if so, you could use ButtonRemapper (paid app) to remap one of your volume buttons to work as your power button and do the rest with button savior.
Nope, none of the buttons work!! I'm screwed!
Then yes, you are indeed screwed. Sorry for your misfortune.

Pretty much. If you have one working button then you could use an app called "button remapper"
Have you flashed back to stock/something different yet? Seems a touch coincidental that they all go at once. The bottom 5, or the two volume yea, cos they're on two separate input busses, but for both to fail together... not saying it couldn't happen, just saying it could be something else.
If there not working how do you turn on your phone?
When I slide the battery into the phone it automatically boots up as if I pushed in the power button.. it never used to do that before.
And also right after it powers up it sends me straight to slide to shut down which kind of makes me believe I may have the power button stuck on or something? I'm going to try to flash the stock rom and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!
Dude!! Proximity Screen Off (look in Abdroid Themes and Apps sub-forum) could fix you up in combination with button savior !
It has an option to use the prox sensor to put your phone to sleep and to wake it. The downside is it will drain your battery faster than normal because the prox sensor is in use when the screen's off. But it could keep your phone useable til you can get your buttons fixed (probly just your power button is malfunctioning it sounds like to me)

Thanks a ton Huggs. I'll definitely look into it, as the main reason I love this phone is for Android roms!
So far i've had good luck with this Winmo 6.5 app. I had to revert to the base/stock Tmo rom and it works okay.

Hey guys, I have a problem with my power button, seems like it's working but at the same time it's like stuck, so I don't know, if I press the power button just for a bit, it restarts and goes on a loop just because of that, but If I don't press it, everything works fine.
What should I do?

Sorry to hear that. You could use the fingerprint sensor wake option, and double-tab home or empty areas of nav bar for screen off, I think Lineage OS has both of those. Not sure that's a complete solution though.
I was put off by motorola's locked bootloader in 2012 with a Droid X2, then it's mechanical "Back" button failed, making the phone useless. Being so cheap now and having changed its bootloader policy, I decided to give Moto another go. But I still don't trust the buttons, I want to limit their use as much as possible, using fps wake and double-tab home to sleep.
