x7501 USB HID Class details.. anyone?

hey guys, i was just wondering how "supportive" the HID class (if any) is on the x7501.. was wondering how difficult it would be to get HID devices like a joystick or gamepad going on this wonderful device
Yes, is possible and works . Try to use the 4in1 adapter and use a 4 slots USB; insert the USB into the 4in1 adapter and then insert into the USB slot switcher let's say for testing, a USB Mouse ... it should appear on your screen the mouse pointer . If is working, insert a second device, let's say a USB keyboard and you'll have also the external keyboard .
Cheers.
Hey mate, thanks for the reply.. I have to buy the adaptor anyways so i'll try it out! How versatile is the usb support? I know it takes mouse and keyboard but what about a joystick? never heard of it being used on a phone before so they might have removed support for memory reasons.
Also what about communications classes? what if i plug a usb to rs232 bridge into the x7501? it would be ultra nifty if i could use this phone for serial data logging..
I didn't test a joystick, but I did a test also with an USB 1 Gb StickMemmory ... and works like a charm ... all of them at a same time (mouse, stick and keyboard). Best minilaptop ever .
Hint: use only an usb 2.0 4-port hub (that is empowered ONLY by the host - on this case, Athena).
Cheers.

Connecting random stuff to OTG cable...

Just wondering what people have tried to connect to their SGS2s via OTG cables... I have tried the following:
Working:
Generic Logitech wireless mouse via USB wireless dongle
Logitech MX1000 wireless mouse via MX's docking station
Genius USB laser mouse
8GB micro SD card via USB adaptor
64GB SSD USB HDD via y-splitter for additional power
Wireless USB mini keyboard with touchpad (the touchpad worked perfectly & CTRL-ALT-DEL rebooted the phone!!!)
Not working:
Samsung ML-2240 laser printer (recognized but won't print)
Logitech STX webcam (unknown device)
Generic bluetooth USB dongle (unknown device)
87 views and no-one else plugging random USB **** into their phone? Just me then, lol.
i tried to plug in via usb:
generic usb mouse
many usb keys from 2 - 16gb
via bluetooth:
mouse
not working via usb:
generic keyboard
via hdmi and working:
lg lcd tv
projector philips
but via hdmi subtitles was not shown, only on phone
i will try printers today...

Would be kind of pointless anyway.
When my SGS2 and an OTG arrive, I will test some of my hardware(G15(gaming keyboard with lcd display), Razer Diamondback(mouse), Saitek Cyborg EVO(Joystick), HD2(Android phone) and if I ever have too much money and time, something like THIS and of course USB storage devices from 16MB-1,5TB etc. ) Will let you guys know how everything works.

I tried my Logitech G15 and didn't have much success. Connected directly, it's simply a high power USB device, and via a powered hub, it sometimes is detected, usually isn't (seems to depend in what order it's connected). Regardless, I haven't managed to make it function correctly.
On the other hand, my Logitech MX 518 mouse works great connected directly.
My Logitech Webcam 9000 Pro is detected (even directly), but is unrecognized.
I did some tests with the OTG.
Working:
All USB sticks I tested with.
Keychain Spycam. You can even charge it with the phone Only the webcame mode doesn't work
Some old Logitech wireless notebook mouse
Standard Logitech mouse (one that came with a pc)
Not working:
NTFS drive(Haven't tried the NTFS drivers)
HTC HD2-ADB: High power device. Can't test with powered HUB, because the only one I have is the one in my pc display and that doesn't seem to work with my SGS2.
Razer Diamondback:High power device.
Logitech G15:High power device. (as reported above)
Saitek Cyborg Evo (Joystick):The LEDs in the joystick are working, but whatever I press, nothing happens on the device.
Cheap keyboard with backlight:High power device.
Edit: of courses wifi, Bluetooth and UMTS/HSDPA aren't working over otg either xD
Will update when I try more devices
Has anyone tried if it works with a Logitech G700 ?
Do I need 2.3.4 for all this ? I've heard I do ..
I was wondering if a usb dvb-t tuner should work to watch tv( i didn't try).
Hope someone will test it
Connected my digital camera Sony CyberShot DSC-W300 with USB and a new folder appeared in the Gallery app with all the pictures, impressed.
Didn't work with a Canon G5.
I tried a generic USB mouse and keyboard, several flash drives and my wireless mini-keyboard/mouse-combo via USB dongle
Everything worked

Nope, works on 2.3.3 as well.
Samsung implemented the host stuff from the start on.
Just wondering which OTG cables you guys are using. Also are there externally powered versions available (to power devices with higher requirements)?
I use a cheap 9 bucks one from the ew-Bay.
One day I left the wireless dongle for my minikeyboard/-mouse thing connected - phone was in standby all day, but battery was dead empty after a few hours *lol*
Xbox 360 wired controller : recognized as unknown device, lovely it looks it's NOT a power eating controller ! Lights turn on ok
Apple iPad 1G : could work great (device well mounting at first) but it's recognized as high power device, so... Not working.
Sony PSP : Works perfect
Another android phone (Xperia x10i) : guest detects well USB connection, it charges battery (!) and USB mount works. However, host doesn't detect anything.
I tryied my usb 3 drive formated with ntfs and it worked,:good: played mkv video nice and smooth.
As for the cable I bought it on ebay just standard otg cable
I tried Logitech M310 mouse and K360 keyboard both worked.
Can't find any OTG cable in my area :/ and Ebay is not supported in PK yet

DYI – Connect a mouse and a keyboard to your Xperia Arc

Very soon Sony Ericsson will launch the Live Dock, a device that will enable you to connect a mouse and a keyboard to your Xperia Arc. But if you don’t want to wait until Live Dock will be available in stores and you don’t want to pay about 30 euro for this gadget you can build a Micro USB Host Cable to take advantage of this feature available with the latest firmware of Gingerbread (Android 2.3.4) from Sony Ericsson (4.0.1.A.0.283) and attach a keyboard and a mouse to your Xperia Arc. And by conecting with the HDMI cable to your TV screen you can transform your mobile into a PC!
You can order the Micro USB Host Cable over the internet because normally you don’t find it in stores (I was trying myself but no luck). So instead of waiting for the order I took a normal micro USB cable and an extender USB cable and I followed the instrucitons in this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COkLEJGo6vo. Long story short, you need to cut the cables, replace the father USB connector with the mother USB connector (re-connect the wires by color) and at the micro USB connector you need to connect pin 4 to the ground.
Pictures here:

Thanks for the idea. The thing there is now the phone cannot charge (as the livedock can I guess?). In any case, can you connect then a USB hub so it will support both keyboard AND mouse at the same time?
Go to your nearest retailer and ask for Nokia N8 OTG CABLE
then he will give you
Dont ask otg for arc because very few knows that arc too support it

A couple of quick questions:
I'm on Android 2.3.3 (.368 fw), I purchased an OTG cable and used the Q5 app for Mass storage which did not work on my external hdd, will have to try it with a USB stick. Is 2.3.4 a requirement for this to work? Also when plugging in a Keyboard / Mouse / Controller would I need any apps to make this work?
Regards,
Zak.

See, as SE has not added the pendrive/hdd modules, they won't work on Stock SE kernel
Flash doomlord's to make them work via Q5
And
Mouse/keyboard/PS-controller works without any software...
I'm on 2.3.4 but cant confirm it for 2.3.3
As I've read on other forums, i can say that OTG is a feature of 2.3.4 - 4.0.1.A.0.283

I've ordered this:
sku 50774 in dealextreme
I think it'll work great and it's cheap. Plus you get 2 of them.
Sorry I can't post links yet, just go to dealextreme and search that number
Can someone confirm that using a USB stick with locked boatloader works (or doesn't)? I've ordered a 32gb USB drive especially so I can make long 720p recordings and stick them on my USB drive. I'm not keen on unlocking the bootloader, so should I cancel the order?
Also with the controller plugged in, is it only good for emulators or can it be used with native android games such as Asphalt?
With regards to emulators, is it possible to plug in two controllers either using a hub or wirelessly for two player games?

USB HOST : XPERIA ARC or NOVO 7 PALADIN
mouse and keyboard also not detected by XPERIA ARC or NOVO 7 PALADIN
I don't have OTG cable?
Is OTG cable is required?
observation: Using USB HOST Controller Software(Available in Android market)
1) For NOVO 7 Paladin : USB HOST MODE is ACTIVE
:Keyboard, mouse not detected
2) For XPERIA ARC : USB HOST MODE not available or not Active
:Keyboard, mouse not detected

Using mice and USB keyboards on Note

The GNote has the ability to act as a USB host, which allows one to attach a flash drive directly to the Note as external storage.
Can we expect devs on the forum to develop USB drivers so we might use other peripherals such as keyboards and mice on the GNote?
I come from a Notion Ink Adam tablet which runs Froyo and was able to work with plug and play USB keyboards and mice.
Would be a very nice feature to hafe on the GNote.

I don't have the NOTE yet, but on my present device I can attach a USB Keyboard directly to it and it works. I don't need any driver.
Did you test it before opening this thread?
Please confirm
Remark: And same for mouse!
My USB keyboard works fine
Tried several mice and one worked, most didn't (not sure the model name of the one that did, it as a Logitech, will be back in the store later this week and confirm).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYlfuNIGQsw bluetooth mouse works too
Yep BT keyboard mouse work also, amongst other things:
using usb mouse on note.
so you guys are saying that one can use a usb mouse on the note. i guess first you need an adapator or an usb mouse with a micro plug, then just plug and go.
I tested out my razer orochi BT mouse and it worked fine. Don't have any use for it yet until I get a small BT keyboard I can use.
Hi Pere,
To be honest. I read a review which stated that in practice with the OTG USB adapter only flashdrives and externally powered hard drives seemed to work and that the drivers for keyboards and mice would be needed for them to work.
This did not stop me from ordering the adapter, which still has to be delivered. Will obviously test myself once it arrives.
Would be delighted if one can plug in any USB keyboard.
Thanks for clearing it up.

That's the GSMarena review and they are quite incorrect. My USB keyboard works perfectly, as did the USB mouse I tried instore. You will of course need a USB OTG adapter.

Nice!! Thank you.
Two more questions, one of them for people using not standard English keyboard ( French, Spanish and so on...) does the keys layout meet with the written characters? I mean: symbols as ;/"? are in different keys? or does they match with the written ones?
The second question or test: Can we use a Host USB to connect together both keyboard and mouse simultaneously to the note!?
Who will be the first in test?
Thanks in advance
Good question! I would like if one could answer that as well.
I guess it would require a OTG usb cable + USB hub. Does the Note support for a USB hube? I mean, would the USB host in the Note allow that?
Also, if it works with an USB hub, then I guess you would be able to both output screen to hdmi, charge and use USB keyboard/mouse at the same time?
An Italian coleague has already answered the USB hub question with this video: And yes, we can!
Regarding the simultaneous connection of mouse, keyboard and HDMI would be great but I'm afraid that there are technical reasons to doubt that it's possible...
What about the special signs question? Any idea?

Could somebody explain what exactly is a 'USB OTG Cable' ?
Is it just a cable with a male micro usb plug at one end, and female std. USB plug at the other end ?
Or it needs some magic electronic add-on inside ?
Thanx in advance
All PS\2 keyboards and mouses works great too.

If you use a USB keyboard, does that mean you can't connect it to a monitor as well? You need a bluetooth keyboard to do NZtechfreak's setup, correct?

Does the Xperia X Compact support ethernet adapter with stock ROM?

I want to connect my Sony Xperia X Compact to RJ45 ethernet, using some micro-usb to ethernet adapter. Android supports it starting from marshmallow, but no idea if Sony introduced the feature on the X Compact. Even iOS supports it, on both iPhone and iPad.
Anyone knows if it's possible or got it working?
I tried one and it didn't work.
Not much chance to debug why without root.
I tried connecting my Xperia X Compact to the following Ethernet/LAN adapters:
- USB C to Ethernet (EC Technology USB 3.1 Type C zu RJ45 10/100/1000)
- USB C to USB A 3.0 OTG (ivoler) to to Ethernet (CSL)
but I get no IP and no Internet connection.
Should I adjust a software setting or get a specific hardware adapter to make it work?
Thank you!

I think it's not possible. Try the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, they support ethernet with the Dex dock and probably without it too. I'm not buying Sony anymore. They just copy and copy badly.
