So I have rooted for the first time, I flashed a ROM.
ok so i don't notice much difference.
So I'm guessing maybe its just the ROM I am using, I wont mention it by name as I'm sure the dev. Put alot of time and effort to create it and its just not what I'm looking for.
Other than speeding up the performance a little, what was the root suposed to do?
And
from what I can see ( and I'm not very experienced in this stuff, I'm learning ) most Roms are just stock with stuff riped out. What else is possible? I wanted to set myself apart from my stock user friends.
Why did you do it if you didn't already know the answer? Anyways, you can overclock, undervolt, have ROMs like MIUI and CM7, free wifi tethering, and more stuff.

You probably shouldn't have rooted if you didn't know what you were doing. As they always say, "If you have to ask what rooting IS, you probably shouldn't be looking up how to do it yet."
ok maybe I worded that wrong. Yes I know that I can overclock, Already done. And I have a rom on it. I guess what I'm asking is what diffferent roms have to offer.
I'm just learning and don't completely under stand all the technical stuff and the slang. They all basicly say the same thing. Faster and longer battery.
It really comes down to customization. A big one is boot times being much faster - this really seems popular, which I obviously understand. Some people compress all of the apps so the ROMs can really get down to like 200MB and the ROM is usually much better on memory in these cases. Another huge thing is custom kernels (overclocking) and being able to remove unwanted bloatware with system applications. There's apps on the market that only work on rooted devices, such as custom recovery which allows you to take a backup and then restore in the event you screw something up and get boot loops, and apps like cachemate and one of my new favs, the Reboot.apk. It's really limitless. Oh yeah, you can also customize font colors and notification colors, battery (and other) icons, messing with the build.prop, you are able to change certain behaviors of the phone/tablet, and with TrevE's apps, you can find out if your phone/tablet is spying on you. I recently deleted a lot of logs and made those files and folders read only so no more logs could be made. And finally, you customize your boot animation, which is really cool.
Thank you that's what I'm looking for.
So if I wanted to say change some icons, ist the same as flashing the rom? Can I download icons and install the same way? I'm Not ready to make my own or anything lol
Well, you can download full icon packs on the Market. Some are paid, some are free. There are other applications like "BetterCut" or something like that that allow you to change the icons. I'm not sure if you need a custom launcher to do that though, as I've always changed my icons inside of a custom launcher like Panda Home. Panda Home actually has a built in custom icon changer! Not sure if it's compatible with the tablet though, but I know ADW is. Good luck!
Perhaps, you should just flash back to a stock acer rom.
But before you do, take a good benchmark on your battery life.
Then flash back.
Sometimes, rooting is just not for everybody.
Ok one more question.
I have done a full back up, if i want to try a different rom, i flash the same way. If i dont like it i can restore using the backup i made and everything goes back to how it is now? Including how my home screen is now and widgets?
Thank you everyone!
Yes if you did the backup inside of cwm.. I used this feature alot when i was messing with the UI Of my tablet.. NOW all my icons text boarders all match the nice burgundy color case i have my tablet in
I Would try to restore your backup to be sure it does restore before flashing a new rom..
just make sure you fallow all instructions by the Rom Developer.Doing this and you should be fine..
If you brick your tablet you can Blame me .......
Happy Flashing...... STOCK IS BORING.
Ok great thank you
Just to be clear, i hate to asume but cwm is clockwork mod right?

Generally, this is correct.
Each Rom cook usually posts the procedures needed to install their rom. Usually, game data, downloaded files and such, is saved. Usually, but not always. Things on the ext sd card are not effected by this process. Usually the procedures are the same. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache. Sometimes we like to throw in some formats. Especially with the newer roms.
Your full system recovery, should be done through your CWM recovery or RA Recovery, whichever you use, and NOT using an internal application. And this should be done before you install a rom. It will save your current system, widgets, etc, so your system is just like it was before you installed a different rom.
ok this might be a little pointless but I still cannot find a working method to root stock 3.2 help please

What are the causes of bootloops and what are the possible solutions to fix this?
I was trying to combine Hyperion rom and JOYOS in order to get the great stability, speed and performance of Hyperion rom and the looks of JOYOS. After doing some experiment (just added and deleted some system apps e.g. messaging, calendar), then flashed it, the bootloop occurred. I want to create this rom in order to impress my girlfriend since she want an iPhone-like phone except Android. Please help me create this rom.

Well bootloops usually occur when u flash a wrong file or u didnt read the instructions...
And there are many ways too recover it like..
Take out your battery and place it back after 10 mins...
If that doesnt works then restore or use odin...
In your case i guess its something related to bootloader..
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
When u delete some important system files and script or install some incompatible script or change the build.prop it happens...
Boot loops isn't a big deal. Just go to Cwm then wipe data & cache and reinstall your rom.
bootloops are caused by a software misalignment or malfunction,
it is so large and vivid that i cant explain everything,
but the basic is any software modifications can cause bootloops,
and btw,
you can impress your girlfriend how android is better than iphone,
my girlfriend is a windows phone fan and i'm a android phone fan so we dont consolidate those issues that much, good thing we both hate iphone
Thanks for the replies everyone. She knows that android is better than iphone. She just wants the theme and the messaging application and such of iphone.

I have installed Mokee on my 4G. But I have some security concerns with it. Google throws up a security warning when you reboot it complaining about an app that is trying to be installed. Numerous antivirus applications have problems with some of the apps.
Does anyone have a clean version of this rom that has the crap removed? I tried and failed. I'm sure a lot of us would appreciate it. Thanks!

As development for this device appears to be mostly at a standstill, you are more likely to be successful if you do it yourself. I lack the time/patience for this (might change during the summer) so unless someone else jumps in, you're on your own. In the mean time, there is nothing wrong with MIUI 5 at the moment.

If you cant do it or don't want to do it. Why do you even bother replying?? I already tried and I couldn't figure out how to do it. That's why I asked the question in the first place. I know people have done it. I was hoping someone would be nice enough to upload it.
So disable all those Chinese apps then it won't pop up the warning again..I'm using Mokee rom Now

I have done that with Titanium. When I reboot I get the Google security warning when an app installs itself. Antivirus programs Avira and others throw up warnings under a full scan for different things.

Excuse me? If I had a computer with Linux that I could work on I would, but I don't at this time. See the issue? This thread is rather redundant as you could have just as easily asked that question in a topic where it is discussed.
As a side note, I am able to delete all the Chinese apps, don't even need to use Titanium Backup. Just take the app from the app drawer and drag it to the trash. It worked for me, chances are good it will work for you.
You may find this interesting: http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-aosp-roms-using-source-code
By the way, CM11 and Mokee are so similar it's ridiculous. Mokee is basically CyanogenMod with all the icons and names changed to 'Mokee'.

How would I know? I just did a fresh clean install. It was the first thing I did after it booted. I uninstalled the apps like you did from the app drawer. Next reboot they are re-installed. Others have the same problem so I don't know how it can be different on your phone.
Uninstalling apps with Titanium/Link2SD/other apps won't work due to the non standard location of the apks.
With Root Explorer (or similar) go to /system/third-app and delete apks of these chinese apps. They won't reinstall again. I did that when installed Mokee, months ago, and they never reappeared.
Remember to uninstall also System Server (probably ad/analytics/spy, not needed)

i used built in root explorer to delete those chinese apps except fm . no problems now.
I tried every rom posible and all have the biggest bug ever ...at least for me it is but nobody is talking about ...there is something i don't know ? there is no need to be mean to my question but why all roms have this problem with keeping the playstore apps updated ...why the apps revert to previous versions and why this is hapening only to custom roms ?.. if then i ask you what is the use of custom roms? ...
these days even a five years child can root install a custom cwm , a custom kernel a viper4 sound mod and debloat a original stock rom
Lol.
I haven't experience anything like that, in any Roms i have flashed.
Throw your s4 and buy some updated android device.

a custom rom is exactly what it says it is, a customised version of the original android operating system that somebody has, in their own precious time, played around with to try & give us something a little different for this ageing device. Chances are that if you went out tomorrow & bought an S7 edge & fired it up you would have to update some gapps, whichever you may use. I think you need to take a deep breath & have a little more appreciation & understanding for the things that go on here. If a 5 yr old is able to do what you claim then maybe you should turn your hand to contributing to the community................... but thats just my opinion......no offence intended
Is this guy for real? Apps simply don't revert to previous version after you update them. There's a simple setting in the playstore that allows auto update of your installed apps to the latest version when they become available. And is this how you lose from custom Roms? Lololololol I thought your device blew up or melted.
Buy an IPhone and explain us how cool is it. You'll enjoy it, for sure
Pls close delete this thread its useless.

Believe it or not, but I have seen similar behavior with some of my apps.
I update it dl today and tomorrow I have to update again, but there doesn't seem to be any changes in the changelog.
But this happens rarely.
So I believe the OP exaggerates. This also started happening only recently, so it's either something related to the new Android updates - which means older ROMs (5.1 and below) should be safe - or something related to gapps.
To everyone who asked for this thread to be closed and/or brought up the fact it's in the wrong place, why did you not click on the little triangle at the bottom left of the post and report it? Mods can't do anything about it if they don't know there is an issue.
As to the OP, I actually tried keeping an Android 2.3.3 ROM's Google apps up to date - one of the features of the ROM I offered. To do that I didn't include anything but the Play Store. Today, such a task would be difficult. If you like, you can download a GApps package from OpenGApps on a daily basis and flash it yourself.

Someone might be able to help, but it does make a difference which device you use.
So you need to give us that information.
If your device supports LineageOS, you should go with this one in my opinion.

yea so look for Roms that say "Vanilla" this means they don't have any google apps, it's just pure apps like file manager, messages and dialer.

link. this might be helpful for you to get TWRP but i didn't find a single custom rom for your device on XDA. But wait, got something in getdroidtips. I found some lineage os roms too (versions : 14 and 15). Maybe you could just flash them and check whether they are without google services or not. If they are with google mobile services, try rooting your device and remove the bloatware manually.

You are right but there are few exceptions in unofficial builds.
I've used a lineage os ROM for my Gionee S6s which was an unofficial build and it came with GMS preinstalled.
