[Q] Rooting and stock android help - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Apologies for the newbie question that I'm sure if I looked hard enough is listed in previous posts!!!
I am a recent convert from iphone.
I always jailbroke my devices so was used to installing jailbreak and cydia etc.
However, moving to android has confused things due to the amount of apparent ways to root my device!!
Essentially, I have an s4 on vodafone UK. I9505
Anyone on voda will appreciate the stupid amount of bloatware and issues (currently IMS framework) etc
I want to root my device so I can install a stock androidOS.
I would like a step by step guide to rooting and installing the OS.
Just links would be fine to sites/programs that have been tried and tested.
I am an android noob so I need some very basic steps.
I have no need (yet) to make major changes to my device and mess around with specific root app etc. I literally just want to install a cleaner, non bloated OS!!
Any help appreciated!!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 - i9506 - Android 4.3

Hi, I'm completely new to this whole android ordeal regarding rooting and custom ROM and all. I have some idea, I've read a couple of threads explaining the terms and basics of rooting android.
Basically I just want to root my android device and in the future be able to restore it back just as it was before rooting.
How to properly Backup the whole Device (So I can restore the device to the current state in the future)
Root the device
How I can restore the device using the backup I made.
And maybe not void my warranty
^^ That's basically what I'm looking for, how I can do those things.
I'm Using s4 I9506, with vodafone australia. (It's not locked)
Running android 4.3
Any more information that I need to provide? Would be soo helpful is someone could help me out with this problem
cheers

Have a look HERE regarding root!
I only use my Samsung/Google accounts to back up my contacts etc so cannot really advise on this! But you can look at apps such as Titanium Backup and Online Nandroid...there are others. Just requires a little research and reading from yourself

[Q] Please help me with rooting & flashing

Hello there!
I have a Galaxy Note 3 i9005. I used to have it rooted (towelroot) but I accidentally updated the phone to version 4.4.2 which sadly removed my root. I've had my phone for about a year, and I feel it's time to spice things up with a new rom, but I find myself lost in this whole flashing jungle.
So, my questions are, is it possible for me to safely root & flash my phone? If so, could anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried searching a bunch but it's very hard to find in-depth guides explaining the process in detail. I don't even know if such a guide exists for the Note 3.
I live in Sweden so I don't think the phone has a locked bootloader if that affects anything.
Please help me.

I've rooted several new note 3 with this method..http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/root-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150
I managed to root it with that method! Knox is 0x0, thanks for the pointer man
Now, I'd like to know how to flash a custom rom. I've been looking a lot at different custom roms, however I can't seem to decide which one I want. Besides, I don't even know if I'm able to flash my phone since I'm running Android 4.4.2. All guides takes for granted that you have some knowledge with flashing, which I don't.

Rooting a S5 G900F. Total newbie.

Last week I received a brand new S5 G900F, no carrier, and want to have administrator privileges in order to remove bloatware. Plus, it would be nice to have adblock and apps to back up the entire system, both which aren't available in the phone's stock form, and maybe a custom ROM and Kernel.
I have never rooted a phone nor messed with its system files, so I'm a complete newbie on this. Also, I haven't connected it to the Internet yet, so that the phone is in its stock form before rooting it.
What's the simplest, safest yet effective method for rooting my phone? Afterwards, can I just update the phone to the latest version using the regular system settings menu, or should I do it externally (downloading the update on the PC)? Any particular tips on what to do next, such as what apps to remove, which to install and so on, if possible while keeping it simple? I read that CM 12.1 (ROM) + Ktoonsez (Kernel) is the way to go.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Avensvvvvvv
The best, safeest way to Root? - Have a look in the Q&A Forum, its mostly all here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700073
Some people use TowelRoot...
I used CF Auto root and found it easier. You can find here at XDA or at http://droidors.com/2015/03/24/root-samsung-galaxy-s5-sm-g900i-android-lollipop-5-0/ be aware that this link is for the g900i ot the g900f.
As for updating etc....a lot of the latest ROMS come with OTA (over the air) updates. Which ROMS? There is kind of a rule here that you dont ask which ROM is best because the idea is that you do loads of reading and try them out for yourself Lately Ive been playing around with PhoeniX ROM, Alliance ROM and some of the CM stuff...but all are good. Removal of Bloatware is pretty straight forward using Titanium Backup - or some ROMS supply their own method for doing do. Just be sure to not mess around with any of the system files while your still learning. Search Bloatware and you should find some good advice.
Thats about it mate - the main thing is to read, read, read and ask lots of questions before you do anything. Otherwise you'll have a very expensive paperweight on your desk Most of the people here are cool with Noobs asking questions in the correct forums....by the way this post should really be posted in the Q&A forum
Good luck flashing and rooting...and most of all....have fun!
Mugsyfied
You have a good answer in the above post.....
But in future, you need to give us more information about your device so that we can offer advice that is suited more exactly to your circumstances....
The version of Android currently running on your device is one critical bit of info you didn't provide.....
Some things to bear in mind about your phone....
1) Samsung have included something called Knox on these phones....it is basically an un-resettable 'eFuse' which 'tripps' when you flash any custom software to your device. Samsung are using it as an indicator to allow them to deny warranty claims.
2) when you root your phone you WILL trip knox, this will probably prevent you from receiving OTA updates to your device....and even if (by some miracle) you did get an OTA, it will remove your root access, and you'll have to start again....

Question About Rooting As A Beginner And With A Mac

Hello,
I hope you are doing well!
I am looking to be pointed in the right direction as someone who is brand new to rooting and has done some research but is still confused by the process.
I am looking to improve the performance of my Samsung Galaxy S 5. I researched a little about rooting and came across Cyanogenmod. Essentially, I'm looking to install it on my phone, however getting from point A, having a basic phone, to point B, having a rooted phone with Cyanogenmod, has been a little trickier than I thought. I am stuck honestly. I apologize for not knowing essentially anything. I stayed up all night trying to figure this out and it seems every website has a different set of instructions and they have their own complexities, for example, many of them are for Windows, and I could not find any for Mac users.
From my understanding, I need to install a custom recovery and use it to flash the Cyanogenmod ROM. This all seems much easier than it looks. To me at least. I came across a flashing tool, Odin, which is only for Windows users.
Basically, is there a guide out there that explains step by step how to flash, install ROMs, install the basic google apps, AND that is Mac friendly?
Thank you for your patience and your help in advance! I really tried to avoid going to forums because I know people get tired and frustrated when new people post questions without researching. I feel I have all the research done, I know what I need to do, I just do not know how. Most guides are dependent on the user having preexisting knowledge about rooting, which I do not have.
Here are my phone specs:
Samsung Galaxy S5 T-Mobile
Model Number: SM-G900T3
Android Version: 6.0.1
Build Number: MMB29.G900T3UVS3GPI1
I want to do the heavy lifting, just please show me the way!
Thanks again!

Downgrading/rooting/flashing...help !

Hey everyone ! I've looked at countless threads and youtube videos and have learned a lot already but I admit I'm new to the root process. I joined this forum because I'm an android lover and want to unlock the full potential of my phone (delete unwanted apps, run lineageOS, improve battery life, etc.) and I respect you guys being extremely knowledgeable on the subjects.
However my issue is finding a way to root my phone in a "please explain like I'm 5" process without bricking a brand new verizon samsung galaxy s5 900V.
Currently I am running Android 6.0.1 and from my understanding I cannot root my phone because I have a Toshiba CID 11 which means I would have to flash back to lollipop 5.0.1 first. Unfortunately I have yet to find a simplified up to date thread on flashing my firmware back to lollipop and I could definitely use some better guidance on those steps.
Once I figure out how to downgrade my firmware, my next step was going to be to start the process of rooting the device and then possibly update firmware back to marshmallow once I figure out the necessary steps.
If anyone out there can help "dumb down" this process for me and offer some clear, organized steps I would be forever grateful for your kindness. My end goal is to have an encrypted device running lineageOS and superSU along with any other necessary applications involved with rooting and also to remove much of the "bloat" from my device. Any help is appreciated and thank you for your time !
