Prevent Gallery from scanning a folder? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to configure the gallery not to scan a folder? I put a .nomedia file in the folder but that didn't work. It scans my ebook folder and pulls all of the cover pictures and puts them in the gallery list.

Create a nomedia doc and put it in the folder. You can copy one from the other folders

Quickpick app has an option to hide photos it's free a d very good

The easiest way to prevent media scan of any folders is to rename or make a folder
to whatever name you like but put a "." as the first charactor of the folder's name.
For Example:
folder name "Backup Folder" (gallery will scan media)
folder name ".Backup Folder" (gallery will NOT scan media)
Good luck!

add folder shortcut with specific pics

how can you add a folder shortcut on the screen with specific pics in it? I can see the add new folder function with the long press, but how do you find it to rename and add pics? didn't show up in astro
To rename a folder (I'm assuming this folder is on the home screen), first tap the folder to open it, then tap-hold on the folder name.
great, thanks, now how do I move pics into it?

Evo notifications

I use to use root explorer to move special ringtones into the notification sounds. Since we don't have a sticky recovery the ringtones are not staying in that folder after a restart, is there anyway to push ringtone files through adb into specific folders that are read only?
I can't help with commands to force it into that folder, but I do know a way you can get them to show up as options for the notifications sound.
Create a folder named "media" on the root directory of the SD card. Inside of that folder, create one named "audio". Create a folder inside of audio, named "notifications". Place any mp3 files you want to use as notification sounds in this folder, and they will appear as options.
So thats:
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications/song.mp3
Hope this helps!

music player finds all sounds on sd card

hi
i have a qeustion, can you do so that music player only finds your music folder on sd cardand not all other music files such as navigation voices.
U can try changing the folder names you want to hide. You just have to add "." In front of the folder name and Android will hide them from searches. Don't know if the prgram, like your navigation, will still fund it or not. There are some programs in the market that help but I just got up and can't think of the names they've been posted before in this forum..

Hey this also works for images
1pen notepad in windows - you dont need to type anything.
2:Go to file menu and Save...
3: In the Save as Type: dropdown select All Files
4: Name file .nomedia (just that - include the dot - no extension)
Copy this file to the topmost folder of any directory you don't want to play music from.
Alternatively: If you have Laputa book reader installed look in the Laputa Books folder on your sim card and each book folder will have one of these files in it - copy it wherever you don't music to be found
nomedia
Also search for "nomedia" app in the market. It will allow you to exclude folders.

1. On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
2. Save the blank file as “.nomedia”
Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
3. Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.
(Example: If you want to block CoPilot sound files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/copilot folder)
4. Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable

absolutely brilliant, I've been looking for this answer for ages!
However, there is one thing it doesn't stop for me: I have a folder called Android/cache which is autocreated on reboot (I'm assuming), and my .nomedia file get's deleted with each reboot from that folder. This folder holds all the notifications/ringtones etc that come from HTC Hub. Anyone else experiencing this? Obviously this only really applies to the Desire HD builds.
It works also with graphic files. Great!!!
Now does that .nomedia file need to be placed in the particular folder the image is in or does it work by plaing in the parent folder. I ask because my album art shows up in the gallery and I have roughly 1000 songs, it would be way too much to have to place in each song folder lol

yeah, it needs to be in every folder you want to "hide" it doesn't affect child folders.

Put one in the Android/root/cache folder, and it'll get copied back on reboot.
Dang, is there an option to copy one file to all folders? lol

I had that idea already lol, for some reason after a reboot tho the file disappears and the cache folder get's emptied then refilled with my notifications but no .nomedia (like a complete refresh but without the file I put in). not a major problem just a bit annoying.
Worked like a charm. Thanks Much Sk0o.

How To: Hide your folder and files in SD

You just need to find the way to put a dot before the name of folder.
In XP this would be easy but in Vista or Seven this might be harder.
When you put a dot for exemple on the folder .TEMP the system will say that you need to name the file.
Use an ftp client and connect to your pc and you will be fine renaming the folder.
To disable pics and movies to show up in the interface. you just need to put a file named .nomedia in the folder that contain those pics or movies.
In windows you can create a folder with a . by using CMD and the command "MKDIR" eg.
F:\>mkdir .private
Or simply use a file manager on your phone to create the folder.
Just use Astro file manager on the market.
Long press the file you want to hide/edit/rename/insert dot before filename.
Android then hides any pics you have from the gallery app.
Assign any video apps to scan the file without the dot, they will also be hidden under dot mode, but a rescan may be required.
Suggest app protector pro to put a security pattern on Astro.
I personally don't have any pr0n on my phone... No, really.
useful for thumb in album mostly...
don't need to hide porn if it's your phone
