I have been using my Nexus Player for a few days now. I like the device, but hate the voice control on it. The voice search doesn't work 9 out of 10 times, if I am more than 4-5 feet away (my couch is about 7 feet away from the Player). Sometimes, pressing the search button and speaking into the remote won't even do anything but bring up the search dialogue box. When it does work, it just catches the first or the last word and often incorrectly. So it's hardly any usable.
Again, if I move closer to the Player, the voice search improves. I first though it was the batteries, but have changed the batteries to a new set, and the problem still persists.
Is any else experiencing similar problems with the voice search?
I believe this is a defect and will be contacting Google to get a replacement, but wanted to know how widespread the problem is and whether it can be somehow fixed without having to go through the exchange process.
Thanks.

I upgraded my XV6800 to 6.1 using the official upgrade. It's giving me trouble answering calls. When a call comes in I see the notification but when I try to press the Green phone button or the left soft button labeled 'Answer' it doesn't do it! It's like the keys are slow or something. When I use the soft button is DOES flash the soft button label like it recognized the button press. But it does not answer the call! I've had this happen at least a dozen times now so I know it's not just me fumbling with the keys. 9 times of of 10 I can't answer a call!
I've tried hard resetting the device and the symptom persists. I've tried using it without the microSD card loaded. Still the same trouble.
Has anyone else seen this? Or can you recommend a solution?
so your saying it doesn't show "connected"?
I had something similar to what your describing but it would show as "connected" on my phone. I couldn't hear anything when I'd answer. I realized after several attempts it was that the phone was paired to my cars bluetooth... I was trying to dial my phone as I was walking away from my car but I was still within 30 ft of the car... so all speaker and microphone was still being redirected to the cars system. lol. Same can happen with a bluetooth headset where the conversation (speaker/mic) is redirected to the headset that may be in your pocket or on the kitchen counter. But it would at least show as "connected" on the phone.
I feel stupid/foolish for shareing that experience but figured just maybe its what your experiencing.
Thanks,
Ben
*edit: by the way... when I had the 6.1 vzw upgrade I had no problem placeing and receiving calls, with the exception of the "user error" I described above. You could always try rolling back to 6.0 and upgrade again. Did you install any other new software after the upgrade to 6.1?
I have been experiencing something similar. PPC 6800 (not Verizon) with 6.0. When phone is locked and call comes in, can’t answer with the button or with BT. 6800 keeps ringing long after caller goes to voice mail. The only way to escape is soft reset. I’m running the original ROM & Radio that came with the 6800.

Nope, never shows connected. It's like the UI has gotten hung somewhere and isn't passing control over to the phone app.
No bluetooth pairings have ever been done to this phone, not before the upgrade and certainly none since. BT isn't even enabled.
Tim may be on to something regarding the lock situation. I've found the lock method a lot less friendly than before 6.1. Can't quite pin it down but it just doesn't seem to unlock properly. Again, it seems to be related to something making the phone 'slow'. On-screen keypresses in the Lock app don't seem to register with the same speed as before 6.1. I can tap a couple of them and not see anything on the screen, then they all run through (showing the screen buttons getting pressed).
My Xv6800 Verizon Does The Same Thing. I Push The Green Hard Button To Answer And It Takes Like 5 Seconds To Answer. It Seems To Happen More When I Have Programs Like Internet Explorer Up, But There Is Still Plenty Of Memory So I Cant See Why It Would Be So Slow. Its Just Frustrating Because Sometimes It Takes So Long The Call Goes To Voicemail And Nobody (fiancee Included) Believes Me! Any Help From Anyone?
fyi... i use an auto close program so when I close an application it really closes. I don't have the slow response or ability to not answer within 5 secs, etc. maybe it is a low memory issue you are experiencing. I don't lock my phone so that may be it too. Sorry I'm not much help here.

No, it's definitely not a low memory issue. It's doing this fresh after a reboot having had no other apps even started.
Hi All
Well this is another GPS App and my first so as people say "please be gentle".
I wrote this for my wife and me for when we are running or cycling.
The idea behind it was to know how fast, far, average speed and time travelled while listening to music without have to look at your phone. It basically says the info you want, the voice is a basic computer voice. It will also say any sms that come in while in use but it can only say words and numbers not any text speak but which I might be able to add later.
My biggest problem is because the voice isn’t particularly loud of clear I need to be able to pause the HTC music software while it’s speaking. If anyone knows how to do that please help I was hoping the pause button on the wired headphones might have a virtual key number but I haven't found it yet.
If I can get the above problem solved am hoping to add a lot of useful info to the display and to the spoken info such as a buddy runner based on a previous run or target settings.
In the setting menu the only item that’s functional at the mo is the repeat voice setting. As you may see the whole program is at a very early stage at the mo so again please be gentle.

Sir if you can find a way to pause or mute music with hardware button on wired earphones, You will make me really up...
Hello all,
I purchased my HD2 on release day and so far I love it. For the most part the phone has been problem free and everything works perfectly. However recently I ran into a few issues.
1) When playing music with Windows Media player or the Music Player I will sometimes get odd skipping in songs. I looked at my screen and the microphone symbol at the top of the screen was blinking like crazy and I could hear a voice asking me to repeat commands again. I believe it was the voice dialing feature. One time it actually called someone. My phone started dialing out in the middle of a song and I had to pull the battery to make it stop calling people.
2) Text messaging.. The text messaging app has some serious bugs. Hopefully there is an update or a better solution out there. Some of the problems I have with texting are: Phone goes to a crawl when a text comes in, when typing texts it will just stop showing what I am typing. I have to click all around the window and sometimes can get it to come back up. If I cannot get my text to come back I have to close the app down and then go back in.
3) I am not sure if this is related to the sms app or not but I tried to edit a contact and the phone become incredibly unstable. It restarted itself and when sense loaded it popped up a message saying that swipe was not designed for my phone type. After that reboot my phone acted up a lot until I restarted it about 6 times. Then it was stable but the texting app was worse than ever.
I did a bunch of google searches and couldn't come up with any fixes for these issues. So any input would be welcome.
My phone is stock. I have no interest in flashing a new rom. I blame all these problems on sense (WinMo actually seems perfect despite what the uneducated spew across the net daily).
Thanks for reading
1) Sounds like you're simply activating the MSVC, which is done buy a long press off the send key (you're probably accidentally long pressing the 'play/send' button on the headphones.
Two solutions: 1) Simply disable MSVC (Settings>personal>Voice Command; Uncheck Enabled) 2) Be more careful so you don't accidentally press the button.
2)Just click the text input area (just above the keyboard where the text is suppose to be) and everything you typed will show up and continue to show up.
3) Never heard or seen this.
I don't know how much stuff/time you've put on/into this phone, but you might want to consider a hard reset.
Thank you for your response:
I was not using the headphones. I had it connected to my stereo in my Jeep. The HD2 was sitting alone on the seat next to me with nothing around it. It's done it several times now - so I don't think it was anything environmental.
Clicking in the text area used to work fine but not anymore. I have to click the last text message that came in and it will open a option menu, close that and then click in the open text area several times. This started happening once I tried to edit my contacts and my phone lost it's mind.
I don't want to do a hard reset but it might have to come to that. I have all the apps I like installed and everything seems to be working nicely with those few exceptions.
Ohh and one last complaint. Slacker >< why does it stop playing songs so much? I read other people were having problems with that too but I cannot seem to find any fix. Should I just give up on it and go to Pandora?
Hey,
I'm running the 9505 s4 4.4.2.
For the first time since the nexus one I think I've run into an issue no android phone can get around.
I ride a motorcycle and picked up the Sena 20s Bluetooth headset.
This is my first Bluetooth headset and something I've waited over a year for.
The issue is the dedicated phone button to access your device through voice.
By default this button launches voice dialing on android instead of Google now.
With iPhone it launches siri.
I have tried to reassign the button to Google now but this only works if the device is not locked.
Is there any way around this?
Is there any device that will allow Google now to launch?
Any word if android 4.5 / 5.0 will fix this?
Perhaps a ROM that enables this?
Any advice is appreciated as I currently stand it is looking like iPhone is the only option.
Another option may be the motto x with active listening.
I've heard Google may make this available to all devices, but I was under the impression that this "always listening" is completely Dependant on hardware?
I have the same problem!
I have this exact same problem. Even when the phone is unlocked, google now is a bit spotty in loading when hitting the phone button.
Google did just release an update for Google Now that allows you to access google now from any screen, even the lock screen. That being said, the phone button on the Sena 20s STILL loads the phone dialer. The phone dialer is honestly not good and google now seems to be better to use for dialing people anyway. I wonder if we can submit a request to Sena to have this feature added. It's probably just the button calling up voice dialing instead of google now.
Try submitting a feature enhancement request, I might do the same.
I have the T-Mobile S8 (G950U with Snapdragon) and I have this strange issue with Google Maps navigation. It's totally stock and not rooted. The volume of the turn-by-turn navigation voice gets soft, then loud, then soft, seemingly at random. Some phrases are spoken loud, then a few minutes later the next phrase is spoken soft. This happens whether I use the speaker on the phone or if I connect to my car's Bluetooth. Has anybody else experienced this behavior?
Seems like no one replied to you sadly. I have the exact same issue. It sounds to me as if they are actually two different sets of recording types. The older and more robotic sounding one seems to not obey the "louder" voice level setting. I have also occasionally had them both start speaking at the same time, or immediately after each other - almost like I had two navigation systems up. It's very annoying, and sometimes causes me to pull over to check proper directions when I am motorcycling and listening inside my helmet with music on as well. This problem has been occurring since my Galaxy S6 and still appears on my S8+. I haven't found any solution yet.
Hi
Exactly the same for me, and it has been for my last few Samsung phones, it really must affect loads of people,
it seem as though one voice is Google and the other is Samsung conflicting with each other
Trev
Did you try to change Samsung text-to-speech setting to Google?
same problem with volume
I have the same problem, with Google Maps using (at random) either a low and a normal volume. Has any of you found out a solution since you posted? Is this a Samsung, Android, or Google Maps issue? (has anyone noticed it with other apps?). Thx! --Dan
I have the same issue on S7. It is not an android issue I think, because I never had anything similar on any other android device. This problem really bothers me and I cannot find a solution. I am using Google Maps almost every day and this issue spoils all my impression on S7 which I bought recently.
