Nothing so far.. Someone will have to get PIA to tells us how to get it going since other VPN's are working.... Check the comments here: http://www.vpntips.com/fire-tv-vpn-install/
And Root will probably be required no matter which vpn you use.

I've actually been looking for privateinternetaccess to work since I first received the Fire TV. I haven't been able to get it going yet, but I'm hoping someone else may finally get it working!

Only way I am aware of would be to run the VPN on the router....

Yup that's the only way it'll work. You have to put ddwrt on your router and set up the PIA VPN there.

Logmein

Logmein Beta available for a limited time on the market. Grab it while ya can.
FYI!
I was just about to post the same information.
The app works great. I played around with it for a few minutes. I had no issues controlling and navigating my work PC. My monitor at work is 23'' everything shows up just fine on my N1 screen.
Help
Can anyone send me the apk or point me somewhere to download it. I cannot see this app on the market.
Thanks
yeah, could somebody put this up?
Not visible in the market for me.
that rocks. thanks! i'd put up the apk, but i don't know where to find it, as i installed from market.
I'm not sure if this will work but here's the one from my Titanium Backup.
Yeah, works perfectly, thanks man.
First impression is that it's quite a bit slower than phonemypc, but we'll see where it goes from here.
Thanks alot.

Thanks you a lot
very nice indeed. I love logmein!
Note though, this app expires on 05/31/2010.
Most likely, if they follow the ways of their other mobile platforms, this will be a Pay app on the market with a price in the range of $24.99 or more.
We'll have to see. As much as I love their service (and use it regularly on my PC's), I won't use this app on my phone enough to justify paying for this.
Personally, I'm waiting for TeamViewer app, having nothing but high praise for their application (which I believe to be the best out there - yet to encounter a firewall that would not allow me to connect through it seamlessly - AND free). It's already announced in works for a couple of months.
This works pretty dang good.

So does this mean we should not use the program until further notice?
Did you guys use anything special to install this ZIP? I've tried Astro and AndroZIP and none worked. Sorry for a potentially dumb question.

Unzip and install the .apk file
Duh. I was trying to use the one I copied off of my phone on another phone instead of downloading that file. Thanks for the help and sorry to waste your time!

Good thing I have not used it yet... [Uninstalled]
I've been using the Remote Desktop app for a while now and it works fantastic, and it doesn't have any silly security holes like the lame logmein app.

Do any of the tethering apps work yet?

I'm picking up my phone tomorrow. I was wondering if any of the tethering apps work with or without root on this phone yet. I know the more popular one requires a kernel with netiptables enabled. I'm not sure if the default kernel supports this or not.

I'm sure PDAnet works or you can just change the APN settings to use native hotspots without getting charged.
"native hotspots".... as in.... anywhere a 3G connection is available?

Like the built in tethering option and yeah pretty much anywhere you can get a data connection.
I got the Barnacle Wifi tether working without much challenge thanks to the Devs in the other threads. Could not install it from the AppBrain market but was able to follow the links to download the APK and install it from the internal sd card. Tried to get the widget to donate too,but could not do so from the market place.

Me either, this is my first Android phone. I did a search for wifi hotspot in the AppBrain market and it came up. My limited test with it was good. Used the APN setup from other threads and rooted the phone, also described elsewhere. Then downloaded the APK and installed it. A fairly straight forward process.
Problem with PDANet is the huge cost when I'd only really use the feature when traveling. How is barnacle wifi? Does it support encryption?
I am using a basic WEP key, not sure what you want out of the encryption. Better to check developers web site, I know there are some challenges but it is a little out of my league without spending a long time reading about it.
Well WEP/WPA/WPA2 type of encryption so someone doesn't steal my limited data. Does it support WPA/2 by the way? WEP is pretty easily cracked these days, but it is better than nothing at all.

[Q] Netflix on Acer Iconia Tab A500

Hello all, I am new here so I'm sorry if I am ignorent of anything
I have an Iconia tab, and have been patiently for the netflix app to be released. Well it finally seems like it has been done here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
My problem is when I download the apk and try to open it I get the error ''cannot open file''.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Download the apk with Firefox mobile or your desktop PC instead of the default browser. AFAIK, streaming still doesn't work for us, just queue management.
Its not working on the acer yet.
Edit: ninja'd
I think I read somewhere it's a Honeycomb issue, not just an Acer issue.
the device check disabled apk asks you to upgrade to the latest version on the market (which doesn't exist on our device), and the non-check disabled version will let you browse, but if you try to play a video it pops an error saying the device is not supported.
Hopefully we'll get something that works in the near future. Netflix claims to be working on other devices and it looked like tablets were on the list as well.
Thanks everyone for your answers. Any chance we can keep this thread going as an update to everyone wondering when netflix will be brought over so users do not have to scour the web in search of the answer?
Just a bit of a noob question, but what about changing your build.prop?
If I understand correctly, that requires root, and I do not want do downgrade to gingerbread.
Yup..

I have heard of doing this and am pretty sure root is required.
Such a shame Netflix has not gotten it together for us yet - this screen rocks as a movie player!

I have my acer rooted, but not well enough it seems. I still run honeycomb, and in fact still get firmware updates from acer. I rooted it so I can setup my two 1tb external hard drives to it lol. just used gingerbreak and a couple other things post root. However, i did try and edit the build.prop but wont allow me to save, just read only. I havent messed with it extensively, but seems like there should be a way.

If you use root explorer it will let you mount the file system read-write so you can edit the file.
Alright guys I am not sure if it has been tested but when I get home. I have the lib files that fixed the playback issue on sense 3.0 I will install the deactive device check version and push the lib Files It may actually work!! I just tested on another device that had playback issues worked flawlessly!! Ill let you guys know in like 2 hours or so when I get home.
Right on!
Crsdr37 - sounds promising! Let us know how it goes - since Netflix is totally dragging on getting their software working. My girlfriend's mother uses a HTC Evo 4 from Sprint - netflix support has been broken for weeks for them, and the OTA patch they tried to push out did not work. Total fustercluck

Would be most grateful! Take your time, I am out of classes today and girlfriend is working - got all day to geek out
i am very excited to find out on this
Alright guys so after dismantling netflix.apk the latest version the issue is within one of the files called nrdp.js Think of it as the gate keeper to our netflix enjoyment. It checks certain areas of the device here is the list we need to bypass to get the rsa key injected into our devices for access to the netflix servers.
1.Get Model
2.Get Software Version
3.Get Certification Version
4.Get ESN
5.Get ESN Prefix
Those are all the functions it calls for device checking. That I could find. There is also a certificate file ca.pem that controls how long the app works for before you have to get new certificate that is encrypted up the ass so big roadblock..... Sorry I tried and will continue to try but it does not look good... Damn those large companies with their big sticks.
Installed but error connecting after selecting a vid
I have an stock iconia with 3.1 and tonight I installed the apk mentioned in this article:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...neycomb-devices-and-possibly-most-phones-too/
App runs but when I select a vid I get:
"Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problems persists please visit the Netflix website (12001)."
Anyone else getting this? Any workarounds?

PDANET TABLET Beta 2 released!

It appears that PDANET tablet has released it's new beta that is supposed to work with Blackberrys! Unfortunately you can't search for it right now in the actual market, but if you google pdanet tablet beta2 the first link will take you to the market link for it, but I can't install it from there. One of the problems is that it says it isn't compatible with the Acer a500. If anyone is able to get this app and if they can make it work PLEASE LET US KNOW!!!!!!
Wireless tether or barnacle work well.I had lots of crashes with pdanet
But I guess if you don't root its the only option I know of.
BETA 2 unfortunately won't ever come out. I sent an email to June Fabrics since I've been a customer for over a year now and this is what they told me:

Right now, I have moved on to the tablet as my choice of computing needs for traveling and noticed you have a tablet version. I understand it is in beta and may or may not work which is fine but once beta 2 came into light, no one got a chance to use it.
>
> Is it going to be released any time soon or is June Fabrics giving up on the tablet version period? Will they consider getting the regular pdanet version to work via BlueTooth and connect that way to the Tablet instead? I hope you can shed some light on this simple matter! Again, thank you very much and keep up the great work your team does.

Hi
An android os bug stops beta 2 from working. So it is a no go. Please go
back to beta 1.
Yes you can install the "PdaNet Tablet" software to do that. However you
can only connect using Bluetooth, NOT wifi or USB.
Thanks,

Well I've been trying to do it on Windows 8.. Do you mean that you made your PC the proxy server, like, everything you do on your phone would go first through your PC? If that's what you mean, I haven't been successful and I'd be grateful if you told me how..
