The method as you tryed is stock recovery, if you try to enter CWM recovery
after rooted, you must install Defy system recovery
- put system recovery.apk into SD card
- enable(Turn on) Unknown sources and USB debugging in Application settings
- install system recovery.apk from SD card (Use File manager or Root Explorer)
- Open System recovery App and Select Install Recovery system, it will show "Install success"
- Before reboot (Recovery reboot), you must Turn off "USB debugging"
Otherwise, defy will stuck in black screen
OK, If you want to reboot to CWM recovery mode, you can open System recovery App and Select Recovery boot
or Try that

What I always do when I flash something and it goes wrong is enter bootloader mode and flash a new sbf. I'm fairily sure to do that you hold power and volume up while booting.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
very usefull and easy to use
it was very easy, following the instructrions, just make sure to get the latest version of the software...

I mistakenly rebooted after wiping cache, dalvik cache and sytem. Now I'm stuck at the moto logo. Is there any way to enter into custom recovery other than the flashing method you specified above?? I was using SlimBean(Slim-4.3.build.2-UNOFFICIAL-2013027-1124) with TWRP v2.6.3.0.

Hi there,
I wanted to install latest CM10.1 coming from 0526 yesterday on my Defy+.
Did a backup with TWRP first.
Then the flashing failed, so I wanted to recover from backup.
Phone now is stuck at Motorola M not booting anymore.
When I enter bootloader (vol down) and want to enter "custom recover" he just jumps back to the same menu. TWRP is not starting.
Choosing "stock recovery" is possible, but if I choose a CM10.1 zip file it's not accepted.
RSD Lite does not recognize the phone when it's in the bootloader menu or in the stock recover menu.
Help is very much appreciated, what can I do?
Thanks and best regards.

Okay, I found out why I couldn't enter flash mode by using Vol+ when starting.
The phone powered already up when I put in the battery, so I always pushed Vol+ too late.
Pressing Vol+ WHILE inserting the battery did the trick, phone went into flash mode and I could re-flash 2.3.6 sbf using RSD lite.
[Idiot mode=off]
Still not sure why TWRP was messed up just by recovering from a TWRP-made backup...
Best regards
Same situation to me.
I opened Terminal Emulator, gained root access
then type below command to get recovery mode
# reboot recovery
Custom recovery not running
I have a similar issue.
I rooted my stock S4 and installed the proper TWRP.
Heres where my situation is a bit different from anything I have seen on the forum threads. All attempts—both hard and soft—to reboot into recovery, all direct the reboot to Odin Mode. Just to clarify I have not flashed any rom custom or stock, the only thing I have flashed has been TWRP and CWM recovery. And I only flashed CWM AFTER the Failings of TWRP.
When I attempt to boot into recovery, it flashes the blue characters then sends me into a Odin Mode loop until I hard-key the "download mode" and select restart to boot the os normally.
my phone works fine other than not being able to flash custom roms, which is a pain in the arse especially with all the s4 Bloatware.
Here's what I have done so far to help myself:
• install CWM recovery
• tried hard-key reboot recovery (power off/ press home/volume up/power)
• soft reboot recovery through both Goo, CWM and ROM Toolbox pro
• removed my sd card and tried reboot recovery
• removed battery and reboot recovery
• emulator reboot recovery
• reboot recovery both with and without usb cable
I looked into flashing stock with Odin but all tutorials i could find were of an older version and I didnt want to guess what I needed to get that to work,
Please let me know if theres anything I can do.

Hi guys, I've unlocked my bootloader and flashed CWM from:http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager, I've flashed and didn't get any errors, boot to Android and did "adb reboot recovery", I get in a screen with the android with a red triangle, stayed for some mins and nothing, I turned off and boot to Android, turned off again and turn on by Power + Vol -, Select Recovery and samething...
obs: I used this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654 and downloaded this SuperSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/345/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip
How can I boot to recovery?
Another thing does SuperSU v1.51 works on Android 4.3?
Thanks
The screen with just a red triangle is stock recovery. Press and hold power and press volume up and you should get the stock recovery menu.
Try flashing CWM from fastboot manually as it's not taking with ROM Manager (which I don't rate anyway)

It's very strange - I can't get to recovery by holding down power + vol-up + home buttons. The message comes up that it's booting recovery but then disappears for a second and then either powers off or boots normally.
I can boot into recovery through the toolkit/odin/goomanager however and I've also found that I can boot into recovery if I first go into download mode, press vol-down to cancel download and boot normally and then immediately press the vol-up/power/home button combination.
I have TWRP installed but I previously had philz CWM and this problem happened with both. If i remember rightly the first recovery I tried to install was the original CWM with odin but when I booted into recovery it was still the stock recovery. I'm not sure if this information is necessary though.
Can anyone help me with this or why this could be happening?

Go to the playstore and download/install the latest version reboot the phone normally and after reboot reboot into recovery.
Good luck!
Thanks, that worked. I can now get into recovery with the button combo.

My device is rooted. I tried installing clockwork but no image for my device. I tried installing TWRP but nothing happens when I reboot. I can't reboot into clockwork recovery mode or TWRP. Both immediately reboot to the LG screen after 1 second of the android. What am I doing wrong?
Hey,
Try this if the recovery is really installed (FOR SURE IF RECOVERY IS INSTALLED):
Shut down the phone and Hold the power button + volume down button until the LG image appears. Once it does let go of the buttons then immediately push and hold them again until recovery boots.
If not then
Visit this site for easiest and safest tutorial: www.lg-phones.org/clockworkmode-cwm-recovery-for-lg-g2.html
Hit thanks if this helped you.
are u using stock rom with root?
if so then the reboot option will always only reboot the phone, not reboot to recovery of choice.
try third party app that has option to reboot to recovery like Goo Manager :good:
