I'm having wifi issues at home (probably any wifi though, maybe?)
I've got plenty of devices using wifi at home and have never had these problems. Originally it seemed the Note 4 jumped on to "static IP" but I changed it to DHCP. Still though, it seems the connection just drops+reconnects really regularly so I can be using some app that requires wifi (i.e. chrome browsing) and then all of a sudden it'll just cut out for a few to many seconds.
Anyone else having these problems?

My issue seems to be the wifi radio 'hanging' during initialization. When I reboot the phone the wifi works great for a while, but sometimes when I turn it off (out of the house, not near a hotspot, etc), and then come back home and turn it on, it looks like it's starting to initalize, but never does. I have to reboot the phone and then it works again.
Anyone else with that issue?
Same problem here. After a while the WIFI connection will be instable and does reconnects. 5GHz or 2.4GHz freq. makes no difference as well the AP. A reboot of the device will bring back a stable connection for a while.
I think a stupid background process is the problem.

I got my 7.7 yesterday. All is working great, but about every 30 minuttes of use, the WLAN-connection hangs. The WLAN-icon stays lit, but the tab is not able to send/receive data. To get it to work again, I have to disable WLAN and then enable again. It then works for about 30 more minuttes.
I have not installed any task-killers or battery-enhancers etc..
The router is a D-Link DIR 555. I use several PCs and Phones on the same router without losing connections ever. Encryption-type is WPA2.
Any ideas?
Bro here is the same problem really confusing me evrytime the wlan disconnects.
Have you checked that your WLAN settings do not put the tablet wifi to sleep ?
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Wi-Fi sleep policy
I'm having the same problem here, and my wifi policy is set to never, so when that happens I have to turn off/on wifi.. not good!.
I have the LTE version, but am running it without a data plan. I have the same issue with WIFI. The connection will hang after 30min to an hour of use. It is VERY annoying. I ran Speedtest, and i get an interesting result, over wifi i get a very fast download speed (15+Mb/s) but my upload totally hangs. It just sits there. On the same wifi, with my Galaxy Nexus, i have no problem with download or upload.
I've seen several threads across the internet about the problem, and no one seems to really know why. Some people say you need to change settings in your router, and it isnt the Galaxy 7.7's fault, but, i don't know if I buy that. I have the same problem at the Airport, and, i cannot exactly go and change the router config there. I am hoping that there will be an update to the firmware for the wireless radio, either separate or with ICS.
WIFI Problems Solved!!!
Hi,
I had the annoying wifi problem. It would work really fast for a few minutes and decide to stop working all of a sudden.
I fixed the problem by setting the maximum Router output to 54mbps G. Seems like the galaxy tab 7.7 does not like the N settings.
Now it works flawlessly and I will just use it at G speeds until Samsung provides an update. (I really do not notice the difference in speeds between G and N. Just the peace of mind that it will work every time.)
I hope that solves some of the other users' problems.

hi folks,
this happens both my nexus 7 and galaxy nexus from time to time. While connected to my home wifi they will loose internet connection. They are still connected to my router as i can ping devices on the network. I have to disconnect and reconnect to get net access back again. Im using WPA2 Personal encryption on the routher with tkip/aes
Anyone else experience anything simillar? I have no issues on my work wifi.. it stays connected all the time
Cheers,
Mick
I'm curious about this too. Been having the same problem. I've tried two different routers even went back to stock. I use shout cast on winamp when I sleep. Wakes me up when the music stops.

Its frustrating as my 7 and Galaxy Nexus are solid as a rock on wifi at work.. both experience the issues at home. I'll try boosting the power output as suggested here tonight and see how it goes

Changing home router to a wrt-based asus rt-n66u and boosting the output power to the maximum US allowed value of 100mW fixed it for me. Other devices were working fine, even lowly archos 28 mini tablets. It seems that jb is misinterpreting signal strength.
I dont want to run a static IP.

Some testing last night, i upped the output power on my ddwrt router - that didnt stop the issue from happening. Then i went with a static IP. This seemed more stable but i still lost connectivety at one point, only for it to return on its own - before i would have had to connect/disconnect from the access point to restore internet. More testing tonight.. its very frustrating! I dont think its a hardware issue as its happening with both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7. Anyone else having simillar issues?
Same here
I Experience the same, happens almost every hour or so.
All my other wi fi devices have no problems, just nexus 7
Hehehe it seems many of us having wifi range issue. I checked my wifi signal strength thru wifi analyzer app and it seems wifi is solid if only I always have more than -40dBm strength. Which means I needed to be always closer to the router, can't make it when I'm already at my room. Quite annoying but I guess I had to send it to service center.

Same problem here....
Weird thing is I have 2 routers connected to each other (dhcp off on second one), having same problem on both routers. I thought it was the internet connection as my HTC Desire does the same thing.
I also tested the nexus 7 wifi with my 3g Desire via hotspot.... and no issues at all for 3 hours+.
So i'm pretty sure its not a nexus issue, unless there are some compatability issues from my nexus to the router.
Ideas anyone?
using static IP at home seems to be stable.. cant understand what different though between work and home that it works fine in the office.. must be a config parameter on my access point at home

Here's my problem, and I've seen many problems with wifi here and on other forums but nothing exactly like this.
When I'm at work, my phone connects to the network over there without any problem but, every time I come home, it simply shows my network as "Not in range", even at 2 feet away from the router (WPA PSK security). I've tried turning wifi off and on, resetting my router, "forgetting" my network on the phone. Nothing does the trick unless, I restart my phone and then it connects automatically and stays connected until I leave.
Something strange I noticed tonight; I went to my son's hockey game and, at the arena, I noticed it still showed as connected to my home network!?!?!!?
I started noticing this issue a few days ago, after flashing the 4.2.2 image from Google. My phone is rooted and is running the latest clockworkmod recovery but otherwise, still stock.
Something else I just noticed; my Nexus 7 doesn't have the same issue...
Anybody else having the same issue? Any hints on what's going on?
I also have this issue. But I had the problem before 4.2.2

Got to work this morning... wouldn't connect to the network here because... It was still connected at home, 40km away. That's a powerful router!
Any clues as to what might be the cause?
What brand/type of wireless router are you using? What type of security?
We gotta be more than 2 with this problem... I've seen so many issues with wifi with this phone on other threads... Weird
Last night I went to my parents and again, my phone wouldn't connect to their home network so, its definitely not my router. So I made a backup of all my apps and returned to 4.2.1 and voila, wifi problems are fixed, for now...
I'm really happy with the phone so far, but my wifi disconnects fairly regularly and I keep getting a force close on the SMCC Process (whatever that is). Anyone else having problems?
I just read the thread below this and that issue seems similar.
EDIT: I tried turning off the smart wifi, but it still loses connection. The phone still shows that it's connected to whatever wifi signal, but stops downloading. This happens both at home and at work, so I don't believe it's related to the router itself.
I'm seeing the same issue on mine as well. Noticed it last night playing Pandora via wifi. Would play like 3 songs then nothing. I would have to toggle wifi on/off to get Pandora playing again.

Sounds like basically the same thing. If I wait long enough, it comes back on its own, but it's faster to just cycle wifi or airplane mode once. It's fairly frustrating, and I even found myself just using 3G to do things last night instead of Wifi.
seems to be a known issue in other S4 forums:

Mixed Mode WIFI
I had this exact same problem with my EVO 4G LTE, the problem was the mixed mode WIFI. (B,G,N). On the EVO it turned out to be an easy fix because there was a setting in the WIFI menu to force either B or G. As soon as I selected one mode I had a solid internet connection. The problem here is there does not seem to be an option in the S4 settings to allow this. I have been trying to force single mode on my router to see if that will fix it but my router will not allow me to turn it off either. Pretty serious bug I would say.
WIFI worthless on brand new S4

it doesn't do it as often as it did with the SGS3 though
I really wish I could find a resolution to this. I'm thinking of wiping my phone and starting over to make sure it isn't an app issue, but man that's a lot of work.
Im having the same issue as well.. Im almost positive its common issue and i would expect it to be addressed in the next OTA
The common link seems to be DLink router. We have a Cisco Linksys router and it stays hooked up solid on that.
I have an Asus router. Don't know if there are usually problems with those or not, but I haven't had any prior issues.
I have a Cisco e4200 stock and a Asus running ddwrt operating as a wireless bridge to extend my network. I had to turn off mixed mode on both devices to resolve the issue. Hope that helps.

I have the same problem but I have Netgear routers. The one at my house works fine, but at my other location. The wifi drops.
Same problem on dlink
Adding my 2 cents because I have 2 S4's that I've been testing with and I'm getting mixed results... my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right!
I have 2 wireless routers at home:
- DLink DIR-655
- One provided by my ISP (Bell Canada; not sure of the model at the moment)
The DIR-655 is troublesome for BOTH S4 devices; they stay connected for a few minutes (or longer in some cases) but will always end up not transferring data even though they show as having a very strong signal. Turning wifi on/off always fixes the issue for a short period of time.
Knowing that there seem to be compatibility issues with the S4 and DLink router, I switched them both over to the Bell router. Now only one of the devices has the wifi issue described above.
I found it odd that changing the router being used fixed the issue for one of the devices but not the other. I'm now questioning whether one device has a hardware issue or not (doubtful on this, but worth questioning).
Both S4's have the most up-to-date firmware as do all of the routers in the house. No other devices (iPhones, laptops, apple tv, etc...) have any issues with the wifi.
I've tried resetting the routers, forgetting the wifi connection and setting it back up, rebooting the phone, smashing my head against the wall; nothing seems to have worked permanently.
Is it possible that this is a hardware issue and not a software issue? Has anyone else had similar results with multiple devices?
fix....?
this wifi drops are due to the router WIFI signal setting. it will drop it you are using a B/G Mixed signal/ B/G/N Mixed signal. i recommend setting it on 802.11 g. or, if all your Devices in the house have N use N since it has more bandwidth. i use G because of the PS3
Hope this helps resolve the issue for you guys, it sure did for me.

Thanks for the suggestion, I can attest that this wasn't a permanent solution for me. After switching to N mode only, the amount of times the issue occurred was reduced, but still happens at least once per day.
It's also a pain when I'm connected to networks where I have no control over the wireless settings (work, public networks, friends networks).
I have a linksys modem and router. Haven't had a single connection issue with this phone as I had with my EVO. As my wifi disconnects and reconnects right away. Lol. First time that has happened. Knocked on wood.

As the title says, when I leave the house and come back it doesn't automatically connect to WiFi, anyone else have this problem?
I've changed the 2.4 and 5ghz to manual with no joy, its back to auto now.
Any other ideas?
Same problem here... :/ Using a Nexus 6p as well, when I get home it never connects, need to turn wifi off, and then back on to be able to connect...
No problem here with my work and home WiFi, both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
I had that problem and fixed it by changing channels and going down from 40mhz to 20mhz. Not sure which made the difference but my 6p connects right away now whilst before I had to toggle the WiFi.

I also have an issue connecting my Nexus 6P to my corporate Wifi network - I am seeking the specific details, but all I know so far is that it's a CISCO Access Point. The Nexus 6 had no problems at all. A colleague did briefly get his 6P connected, but then it appeared to break (he's not sure, but suspects it was after the November security update). It continually tried to connect and then eventually says Authentication problem (despite trying all sensible options for Forgetting, rebooting, changing password, confirming it still works for Nexus 6 w/ new password etc etc)
I am seeing this same issue with all of the 5GHz networks i use. It connects just fine but i need to choose it in the pulldown settings...does not automatically connect anymore.
This is something that started happening out of nowhere. it was fine after the latest update at the beginning of november but now has this issue.
Maybe reflash the system and clear the cache may do the trick but need to try.
Wondering why this is not an issue being spoken about more here. I'm sure its more widespread than it would seem here...
This is happening to my Nexus 6p too. when the phone switches to data network it doesnt connect back to wifi, i have to manually toggle the wifi on phone to connect to my wifi.
I have tried this at my friends home too and it doesnt look like an issue with the router, my nexus 6 connects compeletly fine without any issues.
Also I have noticed wifi disconnect when the screen is closed intermittently?
Is this an hardware issue?
Here is another person having the same problems. I changed my phone but I'm having the same issue on the new phone. It doesn't matter which location my phone is. It happens on every location.

Had the same thing. Connected just fine until something suddenly changed and it wasn't working anymore. It worked on other access points of the same WLAN as well as my home WLAN. Yesterday I changed the DNS Hostname of my Nexus (because "android-[insert random number here]" makes no sense) and suddenly it works again. Could be a coincidence though...
I've seen this issue on 5ghz networks on an HTC one m7, a Samsung galaxy s6 , this device and my Samsung Galaxy tab 4. It would seem to me it's an android issue.
Count me as another one with the automatic connectivity not working. Running stock 6.0.1 on Nexus 6P
