Hi Folks,
Another "no wifi" s4 here. This is a work colleagues phone that was totally stock. After upgrading to 4.4.2, wifi won't turn on. I've tried pretty much everything I've found on this site with regards to fixing it. The last thing that I hadn't looked at was the /persist folder (MMCBLK0P17). The one on this phone is empty and from what I've read, it should be populated. Could someone with a rooted i9505 post a list of the contents or better still, upload a copy of their /persist folder please?
TIA!

So far I've tried the following:
Flashing the wifi-fix
Re-partitioning before flashing a stock rom
Rooting, Phillz recovery, clear dalvik, factory reset and format for new rom option before flashing various different 4.4.2 UK stock roms.
Editing build.prop and changing "ro.securestorage.support=true" to false.
Removing the back, removing and replacing the antenna wire.
Flashing a CM11 nightly.
Deleting wpa_supplicant.conf
Dmesg shows some interesting stuff.

So after pretty much giving up and weeks of flashing and faffing around. I managed to get wifi enabled. I've no idea how but I went from stock rom XXUGNG2, rooted with CF-AUTO-ROOT, Phillz recovery installed and a Cyanogen nightly and no wifi. Flashed XXUGNG2 back to the phone and wifi sprung into life! I then flashed XXUGNG8 and wifi still worked! I then performed a factory reset from Backup & Reset and wifi hasn't worked again since!?!?
So I'm not so convinced now that it's a hardware issue as I first thought.....
Lucky you I tried every possible solution. The interesting thing is that if I flash stock I can see Wifi mac, toggle button is "alive" but wifi won't turn on. If I flash cyanogen, wifi mac is not available and the wifi button is gray saying "turning wifi on" like forever.

Like you, I'm back at exactly the same place. Cyanogen won't even let me turn wifi on now, the button is grayed out and says "turning wifi on". Stock roms show a pale green wifi signal icon until it turns gray again and fails. Arghhh how did I get it working briefly?!

Your question is way too general to be answered. The Nook Color has an Android file system, dependent on whether it's stock or the various versions of Android that can be loaded on it. What files do you want to change? What are you trying to accomplish? Maybe then help and advice.
Sorry about that
I think my file://sys/power files may be messed up because it always says "Not Charging" in the quick settings when plugged in. It could also be because I used the wrong cord once. It could also be both. Could you maybe give me the default values in the files (if you have a Nook)? You can use the OpenExplorer app and open the files with a browser.

Based on the number of files, the fact that it's not rooted, and other things, I think your best option is to go the 8 boot route and reinstall the software.
Hello all Forum Users.
Unfortunately I'm not yet allowed to post on Android Development, so I have to write here.
I would be gratuful if someone could post a link there or permit me to write there:

I'm quite experienced FreeBSD kernel developer and I would like to get involved into pinkflozd CM kernel development.
I'm almost newbe to Linux kernel but I think there are some problems with WiFi on e610 devices.
I have the latest CM 10 with pinkflozd CM kernel v0.70.
Everything seems to work OK except from the Wifi.
When the WiFi is off, "lsmod" shows only "frandom" module - it's OK.
When I turn the WiFi on, "lsmod" shows also "librasdioif" and "wlan" modules loaded
but the WiFi is unable to turn on and the modules are unloaded soon.
"dmesg" show some info (not including everything):
- wlan0: link is not ready (many times)
- init: untracked pid xxxx exited
- wlan: unloading driver v0.2.2.542
- <many other errors>
- libra sdio remove : Module removed.
I also tried "l5_wifi_fix" - it didn't help.
I can send more debug info if required. I am not familiar with the Android "log" subsystem.
I have a problem with the 3G Data Connection. The WiFi is working fine, sorry I can't help about it. I just didn't know where to ask my question. How can i fix data connectivity? before flashing CM10, on original ICS it was working just fine. I also tried flashing only the ROM without the pinkflozd kernel, still no connectivity. In settings its set on "allowed" or whatever it says. Please help. :/
l5_wifi_fix must be started from PC, there is fix.cmd, of course phone must be connected by USB

I'm afraid I can't help. Everyone says that 3G Data Connection starts working after the second reboot.
Try reboot and then run "dmesg" from the terminal. Scroll it and try to find something which might be useful to solve the problem.

Hi Guys.
Im not expecting CyanogenMod nightlies to be bug-free, but it seems everyone else using them is reporting working WIFI.
I have tried all of them, and always get the same error... perhaps (likely) im doing somthing stupid.
The Symptom:
Enable wifi the usual way, tragging the wifi toggle switch to "on",
the text "Turning on wi-fi" appears, tobble switch jumps back to off.
The following appears in logcat.
Code:

01-05 19:09:48.293: E/WifiStateMachine(673): DriverFailedState
The following appears in dmesg.

It looks like I am missing the firmware?
The current plan of action is to download and flash the stock ROM, find the firlware, re-flash a nightly, and ADB push it into the correct place.
Am I barking up the correct tree ?
This prblem appeared exactly when i flashed the first nightly, so im hoping i havent fried the wifi chip during a flash.
Thanks.
Chris.
UPDATE:
The BCM4335 runs the radio, bluetooth and WIFI... the radio and bluetooth are fine.. im comleely lost
Looks like its not missing firlware files?
Yup.. im lost.

Let me check, I went back to stock when I realized I had no wifi. I will likely flash last night's build today as well, will report back on functionality.
i'm having the same issue, however i'm back on stock android now, so i don't have access to the terminal fix.
so how would i go to fixing this please?
Edit:
ADB method :
disable wifi
adb root
adb shell rm /data/.cid.info
enable wifi
No-adb method :
Download a root-enabled file explorer from Play Store (such as ES File Explorer)
Disable wifi
Remove /data/.cid.info
Enable wifi

Hello,
To start off, I have a USCellular S4 w/ CM10.1, currently the 7/9 nightly. I am running baseband version R970VXUAMDL and have not modified the kernel.
I am unable to enable WiFi at all on CM10.1 and haven't been able to since initially flashing CM10.1.
Under the Settings menu, I am unable to enable WiFi - it's greyed out.
Under the WiFi menu, I can enable the toggle but it does nothing.
Under the Advanced menu, MAC address shows 'unavailable' and the Wi-Fi region code is set to 'Europe' and will not remember changes.

Have you tried removing the .cid.info file ?
Using a terminal app type the following:
Code:
su
rm /data/.cid.info
On some ROM's have have to do this after every time I have rebooted the phone, not quite sure why but it works for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I fired up Terminal Emulator, su'd, and it doesn't look like there is a .cid.info in /data/. There is a .psm.info, though, and .npswifi_stream - I don't know if they're related at all.

I dunno about EFS, but I know the IMEI is already correct - *#06* is showing the same IMEI as the label on the back of my phone.
My phone is work well after flashing CM, but no WIFI.
No /data/.cid.info file!
*#06# - show IMEI.
Did we ever get to the bottom of this?
Im having exactly the same problem, so bump. Its been like that for 6 months, my workaround so far was getting a bigger data subscribtion since 4g is working fine

I realize that this is an old post. However. perhaps this thread will help someone else:
I flashed a Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-mobile SGH-M919) to CyanogenMod (CM11) this weekend. It worked ok for a couple days. The owner then said that they can't get any WI-FI. I found your post here and read with optimism that I might be able to fix this problem. Our problem was exactly "word for word" the same problem as you described in your original post. (Well almost exactly; we couldn't get "USA" to stick as the region code)
Before flashing the phone, I did install Philz ClockworkMod and did do a backup of the OEM ROM before flashing to CM11. That said, I found that I did not have to go down the road of restoring a missing IMEI file (as other threaders here describe). Here's what worked for me:
I dialed *#06# on the phone to see if there was an IMEI number present, and there was. I wrote down that number. So I decide to see if that number matched the printed number on the phone, that we can find under the battery.
Before I do a power off of the phone, I recall that I had turned OFF both Bluetooth and Mobile Networks. WI-FI was still turned ON, but in it's non-functional "greyed out" state like you and I both experienced.
Now I power off the phone, take off the back cover, and take out the battery to have a look at the printed IMEI number. Yes, it does march the number that I saw via *#06#.
I had to get up to do something, then returned a couple minutes later. I popped in the battery and restarted the phone. To my utter surprise, WI-FI was back up! In "Advanced" I now see the MAC address and the region is locked on USA
I turn on Mobile Networks, and WI-FI's still working. Being the fool that I am, I have to test this further. So I power off the phone again and just let it sit there for a couple minutes. I power back on and there is still JOY. Problem resolved and happy customer.
In closing: I don't think that the removal and reinsertion of the battery was the total solution, because the owner had already tried that. However, the owner did not let the phone sit with the battery removed for very long. They just popped it out, waited a couple seconds, then popped it back in. I think the total solution was having WI-FI enabled, Bluetooth and Mobile disabled, then doing a power off, with an extended wait time before reinserting the battery.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Brcobrem
Hello, on my Nexus 4 on any custom ROMs I am unable to turn on Wifi or Bluetooth. When I move slider, it going to be gray and waiting for few seconds, later going back to 'OFF' position. I tried on Paranoid Android and Cyanogen Mod, on their stock kernels and on Franco kernel as well. I don't have idea, what can be a reason, specially, when on Stock 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 all is working fine, even on port from N5.
Do you have any ideas what to change to use wifi on my Nexus?
Dmesg shows only this in loop:
