Why to use so many apps separate app for every thing.
How about using a nice browser to do every thing... no need face book app, dropbox, YouTube, news apps, rss feed apps, forex apps, .... etc ...
We can use uc browser combined with cm browser light n fast..
Wht do u think

Yes, for simple apps, like facebook, youtube or new sites which basically displays some content over the internet, you can use a web browser. But, for more complex and bulky apps and games a web browser is not suitable. It is not realistic to download the UI and app logic each time you want to use an app.

I'm not sure but here are a few things that explain why I need them
1. Youtube -> yes we can open youtube from browser but Youtube app has a better UI and optimized for youtube
2. Dropbox -> Dropbox can help me upload my pictures (photos, screen shoots, even videos!) to it's server so if I lost my phone, you know what i'm thinking
3. Try to use firefox or chrome I think it's a lot better (sorry if I was wrong)
Sorry for bad language
Browsers don't have access to internal working of the system. Such apps are always dependent on the browser performance. For example, dropbox using browser can only be used if you open the dropbox page and sign into it. Plus syncing files will dependent on the browser performance. On the other hand, dropbox app can automatically check for files and sync them, making them quite easy to handle. This is the main difference between native and webapps.
1) A browser will not have the access to all the APIs, which a native app will have.
2) It's obvious that a native app will have better performance than a webapp (native rendering reduces CPU load)
3) Web apps require 24x7 internet connectivity which is not realistic in most of the countries.

I was wondering why do people use Facebook Apps if opera can access facebook.com and deliver the same exact content (minus viewing videos) in the same exact form as if you were using any computer browser?
Just a though...
an app is a better interface for a portable screen the full facebook page isnt too friendly.
too bad the winmo facebook app is a steaming pile
I stopped using facebook app on any devices I've come to own.
As you said, Browser delivers it much better.

actually, for the HD2, its negligible to use a facebook app since webpages on opera looks the same as a computer's browser.
I use touch.facebook.com with Opera Mobile 9.7
It's much better than the dedicated app, as far as speed anyway.
dwizzy130
I use either touch.facebook.com or the full website. More and more the full website as the touch version somehow chooses to display only what it feels like in the feeds/updates, and in random order. Sometimes I'll have old stuff at the top, and find latest updates in the middle/bottom of page, with no apparent sorting, and if I fire up the full website I'll see twice as many. I've often had duplicate entries show up as well, particularly when "showing older updates".
Same with the facebook app, fim, facebook mobile... it seems anytime I try them all in a row no 2 show the same things and/or in the same order. So full site it is, so I can see what I'm supposed to see. And it's convenient anyway plus I get full functionality when uploading photos or such... with the app either you put a text update without photo or a photo but without text, so that you can't simply upload a photo with a little comment... on the full site you can put a text update and join a photo.
One reason for not using the full site is that it's heavy and thus can be slow if you don't have a good connection/uses a lot of data which isn't fun if your data plan is very limited.
These are my favorite free and lite apps , veterans might have them all, just feel like sharing with some newer comer ,

I don't feel comfortable shutting down ads on free apps. I mean, putting up with a little ad at the top/bottom of the screen is the least I can do if it means supporting a developer's efforts, even if I can't/won't buy their paid app.
And doing stuff like that is especially hard on developers from countries that can't sell apps in the market...
Therotically, morally i completely agree with you.
But i can't deny it is annoying too.
And consumes reasonable amount of data too.

Some don't like it but I really like google currents so far. However there is a button for linking to another app. In there I currently have Bluetooth (what would that do?) google+ (not sure what that would do either) gmail andftp (Why it would put my ftp app in there I have no idea...) and colornote that I have installed. All seem useless except colornote, but what I really want is open link in chrome. I wonder/suspect if I install another browser it may show up but why isn't chrome there? Or is there another method of opening an article in a browser.
My motivation is to keep or bookmark an article if desired. I wish currents had a means of bookmarking or 'starring' an article to permanently store the article similar to pulse.
But I'd be happy for now having open in browser. Is there a way to do this or control what appears in the link button?
I too would very much like to be able to share with Chrome. I tried "Andmade Share" but it wasn't able to expand my options very much.
Download an app called Flashify: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightshadelabs.anotherbrowser&hl=en
Once you've installed, open your article in Currents. Click the 'share' button and select Flashify, and then choose your browser .
It works only from the 'Share' menu, so it won't appear in your app draw.
I have FF Aurora installed and gives an option to send to FF Sync. I just tried it and don't see it popping up on my N7 in Aurora or on my PC in FF.
I also have a send to Gtasks option which I have installed. It sends there as a task with no problem. I can open Gtasks and click the link and it gives me option to open in Aurora or Chrome. And it ends up on all my PC's since I use Google Tasks.
What warrants an app getting in the share list?
I have: Bluetooth, goog+, gmail, flipboard, 7notes with mazec, IM+, andftp, tubemate. and colornote.
Of the above, only colornote is of any use. Why would I want to send a google currents link to flipboard?!
Is this just borked or is there some logic as to what apps go in there?

Try my app "Currents Web Viewer" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emseedroid.webviewer), it's exactly for that! It will let you open Google Currents articles in any browser of your choice.
You can also use the free lite version "Currents Web Viewer Lite" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emseedroid.webviewerlite). Lite version only limitation is that you have to use embedded web browser but it's fully functional and allows a very unobtrusvie full screen mode.
Hope you'll find it useful. If so please give it a good rate on the play store!
This for discussion on what apps you want to see on Firefox OS. I really want to see Google native apps like Gmail, Google maps, chrome, etc. What is your application wishlist?

WOW that is one big list you have there my friend. But it seems to me you want your firefox to be an android phone.....
Don't get me wrong most of the apps you mentioned are "top of the class" apps in an android phone.
But I believe this os isn't android....yes if some of the above apps devs want to port their apps to firefox that's fine by me, it would be great though to see new devs working in this os even if that spell out building apps that in a sense do or have the same functionality like their android counter parts.
But rest assured you would see a lot of junk apps just like android has, and by junk I mean add supported apps, and a lot of wanna be coders that make unusefull apps with adds just to make easy bucks!
For me the list is simple:
1. A decent multi email client (if only Mozzila haden't kill thunderbird project it would had been cool to see a thunderbird app in firefox os).
2. A decent native file manager (not like the native one that samsung phones have)
3. A VLC port.
4. A songbird port.
5. An Open/Libre Office port
You see where I am getting with this!?
All the rest are cosmetic addons sort of speak with apps that have no intelligent functionality.

Actually, if they were to make the same thing from the iOS app, after all, the FFOS browser is just an interface, so a FFOS Chrome would be able to sync and all that stuff easily.
----------
I'm making a file manager, it's on github too. I'm still looking out for the best solutions for it right now, because the APIs are still too limited, so the best I could get was actually getting all files and parsing the folders from their names. Empty directories, for instance, will be invisible, hence the file manager would only be helpful to open downloaded files and maybe some basic interaction.

Meh, just need a JS interface to access native content, no need for another interpreted language like PHP.
There are two apps that I'll be looking to install on my future Firefox OS device which will make the device fully functional for my needs:
OneBusAway - http://onebusaway.org/
Car2Go - http://car2go.com/
As far as app ideas goes, I'd like to see:
1.) A simple app that tells me if I should bring a rain-coat today based on when I'm out working and when I'm home, either as a stand-alone app or integrated with a weather app.
2.) Javascript playground! What wouldn't be more fun than writing Javascript on a Javascript-driven device? (A tad bit of sarcasm in there, but it'd still be fun (well, it depends on the person)!)
And for already existing apps on other platforms, I want:
1.) Duolingo - Free language education app (I believe that it's already written in HTML5+CSS+JS and is just wrapping it).
2.) Google Keep - Google's non-stock note app for Android.
3.) Google Calendar - I can't exactly replace it, at this stage of long-term usage...
As much as I love the Firefox OS project, I'm still a Google fanboy and I still use most of their services (fully knowing and accepting that Google logs everything I do).
Ringtone Maker and GO Battery Saver & Widget would be nice to see.

I was browsing around and saw this thread. Good timing too!
I have been thinking a lot about Firefox OS and how it may be the best hope at open source seeing as how Google is slowly taking backing away from open sourcing and making things rely on their closed APIs.
Anyway, I've given it some thought and I've realized that for Firefox OS to ever succeed, it will really be up to the app developers that choose to port or write apps, and lastly OEMs.
I'm not sure the people got the idea as they're listing forms of apps that are non essential or third party entertainment, that will eventually make its way over once the OS gains numbers.
Netflix, emulators, games ...would be nice but not essential to my mobile device as a productivity device. I would love if all my apps could be ported, but that's being too hopeful.
Bare bones, at the minimum, these are the most essential things:
1) A good simple note taking app. Nothing fancy. Think of AK Notepad or ColorNote
2) An office suite like OfficeSuite by Mobile Systems. & A good PDF reader with annotation support like ezPDF Reader
3) A good ebook reader with multi format support, like Cool Reader or Aldiko
4) A Google Voice dialer app (GrooveIP) + SIP and VOIP capabilities
+ A built-in text/messaging app would beat any third party options
5) A good email and contact system. This is a must have. I want to see easy transfer of Gmail and Outlook contacts + no frills push notifications.
6) An intuitive stocks app. I want to be able to gains / loses and real time prices. Lock screen widget of this would be nice.
7) Maps + Navigation (This a must)
It doesn't have to be Google. Although it would be preferred.
8) News/RSS reader + an app like pocket or read it later. + Podcast support
+ A forums reader like Tapatalk
Bonus...
If you guys could get devs or companies on board...
Dropbox
Pandora
Microsoft's recently released remote desktop or another alternative like Splashtop
Might be moot, but maybe you guys can work together with Adobe to port Flash (I know it's a long shot given they called it quits on mobile)

For me the most needed smartphone apps are (not in this order.) : mail clients, chat clients, internet browser, navigation/maps, file manager, ssh/sftp clients, conversation recording (I'm using it very seldom, but it is a quite nice, almost important feature for me.), camera, sms , smart keyboards are quite nice also, notifications, calendar / task planners, video players... That's it I think.

Before to get Apps,we need an Excelent App-Caching(the most important part in such OS) and the best Responsiveness we can get.
About Apps,i think you guys(Mozilla) should do a Campaign to incite/stimulate developers to port their existing apps to Firefos OS(i hope all Packaged apps,at least near all of them)so you won't have the need to code,or other stuff related.
I actually own an Alcatel one Touch Fire..as main phone, and i think this will be very handly,i have this hope in Mozilla.
We need an Official channel directly with the our mother(Mozilla) to have upgrades for our phones, cause carriers are going to do a Bottle-neck effect on our phone software, and to do this ,the best choice is to get prebuilded-builds,probably it's hard but not all the people can follow that loooong Wiki on how-to-build-it-your-self.
Take the idea to implement Node-Js,i think it will be helpful this guy already doing something http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374160
As Google and the others company,Mozilla need to do simple way to take care of his Users
about apps: OpenVpn,SSH,PC-remote controlling(i'm thinking about a Gnome-Mozilla Collaboration
If you ask me, Firefox has had "apps" almost from the beginning. They are called "addons" (or, before that, extensions) and they handled all sorts of tasks which, prior to that, had only been possible as standalone applications on your desktop.
So consider my disappointment in finding out that all these addons are gone from the Firefox OS browser. They cannot be installed, as far as I can tell. There is not even any Adblock Plus. To me, this is insane, because the addons are the Firefox browser's greatest strength. Can someone explain this to me?
Graphic calculator will be a nice addition
Screen dimmer/ color editor (to make it look more green or red or anything)
adblock?
