i charge my phone face up before going to bed and noticed that the screen comes on and stays on after the phone is charged to 100%. it'll stay on all night until i hit the power button. i'm worried whether this will damage the screen, cause burn-in, or decrease the battery life.
i checked under Developer Options and made sure the Stay Awake option is unchecked. anyone having similar issues or know of any other things to try? its driving me nuts.
I had the same problem and it was quite annoying. You can fix this by going to Setting -> Developer Options and then uncheck the Stay Awake option.
What happens is you get a notification when it reaches 100%, and if it is set to never sleep when plugged in, the notification turns on the screen and it then doesn't turn off.
Hope this help.

yeah i already mentioned in the original post that Stay Awake was unchecked. so not sure what the heck is going on.
Sorry. I should have seen that you had already configured the Stay Awake option.
It looks like a bug if it is still keeping the screen on if the Stay Awake is turned off.
I just tested my phone and it does turn on the screen once the battery reaches 100%, but then turns it off after a few seconds.

I have seem someone mention that Daydream needs to be turned off as well. That is under the Settings -> Display and Wallpaper

It stays awake only while plugged in.
I use my phone to set my alarm for work and it stays on the charger at night while I am asleep.
However the alarm will not go off in the morning (it is set to go off even in Silent mode) and I was wondering if it was because the device was going to sleep at night.
I hope this resolves it for me.

Before setting the EVO to the stay awake setting above, I noticed that if the phone was in desk clock mode (accessed by clicking on the Sense clock), it would stay awake (noticed this while fiddling this morning).
Hello as the title says I have the Stay Awake feature turned on, so when plugged in the screen is not suppose to go off, well it still goes off. If I set the screen timeout time to any longer it will do that even when I am not plugged in.
Anyone know how I can really keep it to Stay Awake?
Thanks,

I am kind of in the same boat, I have read that there are apps in the market to enable this setting. Maybe one of them will work for you. One such app is screeble, another is Stay Awake.

Just got my Nook Simple Touch, then use TouchNooter 2.1.31 to root. After that, battery is drained very fast (> 1X % in one day). Then this post got me an idea.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590029
I used Touch Color Tools -> All Settings -> Development, and then uncheck Stay awake to avoid wake locking. Then my NST battery becomes better with < 5% per day without WiFi (apps terminated by ATK).
Anyway, Battery use is still dominated by Cell standby and Phone idle. Thinking about removing these two services later.
I just looked. I had already deleted /system/app/Phone.apk
Normally my battery drain is very low.
Sometimes it is randomly 3%/hour with single-click power off.
I have caught it sometimes with the touch screen still scanning when it should be sleeping.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24232518#post24232518
Whenever I do a
Code:
dumpsys power
it never shows any locks.
Most apps you shouldn't have to terminate.
I doubt that "Stay awake" setting is relevant. That's only to prevent screensaver when charging..
I removed most apps and have no more Cell Standby. Most of my use is phone idle (84%)... My battery drains 15% per day. Some say it's because of not registering but I can't get it to register.
I think that NST firmware may hold the wake lock status even not charging anymore. Actually, the first time I have noticed battery issue is when I charge NST without powering off.
Anyway, it is quite easy to follow my steps. At least, every NST based on TouchNooter should have Nook Color Tools installed.
Same for me. My nook loses 20% of its battery per day; I removed cell standby, and unchecked "stay awake", but the problem is still there.
Any other idea?
Didn't try it for myself, but there's pretty powerful app called BetterBatteryStats. It can tell who's holding wake lock. If it supports 2.1, it may be worth to try it.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
SpareParts seems to work just fine on the NST, and is handy for checking to see what's using wakelocks.

Be sure you don't have any apps that poll in the background. I disabled gmail notifications, and any other sort of background updates. Widgets can cause a lot of activity that will adversely affect battery life.
Other than that, you might try paring back apps to see if you can identify the culprit.
For me, I find rilj dialer is doing a few partial wakelocks, would be nice to improve that. The fix normally would be removing gmail but we need gmail for other things. Guess I will freeze it with Titanium...
Got a weird problem with my AT&T stock non-rooted S4. About 4 or 5 times since I got it on release day when I charge my phone and I get the notification that it's fully charged the screen won't turn back off. I use a Belkin Conserve socket that is set to shut off after 3 hours and I've woken up after charging to find the phone dead. I've managed to catch this happen once and when the fully charged notification comes on the screen won't go to sleep, it just stays on and flickers a little bit. For all but one of these instances I had blocking mode on so I'm not disturbed by email or text notifications in the middle of the night. It did happen one time when I didn't have blocking mode on. I use a pin lock for my lockscreen and usually have BeyondPod playing overnight (only one hour long podcast while it's still charging) if that makes a difference. Is the function that enables the screen to stay on when you're looking at it malfunctioning? Any help? I've attached two screenshots of battery life when this happens.

So in settings under the Developer Options, there is a setting "Stay awake" if checked screen will never sleep while charging. Now I see that your Belkin shuts off the power but your phones still detects the usb plugged into a power source.
I think things happen in this order: you hookup your phone to charge and shut off your screen, phone charges to 100% and screen lights up saying fully charged, it stays on because of that setting, Belkin kills the power, it is still hooked up to USB so ... you get the rest.
I would find that setting and disable it.
if your next question is "I don't see developers option" it is hidden by default in android 4.2.2 so to make it available, go to Settings > About phone and tap tap tap Build number seven times. Return to the previous screen to find Developer options. Or Indiana Jones might pop up and give you the cup to get eternal life !!!
Thanks for the reply Commodore64 but I already checked that setting when it happened the first time and it's not checked.

I have this problem as well as my wife's S4. around 3am, I notice our room is bright with our two phones' screens on. It will stay on until the morning.
In the developer's section of the settings, the stay on when plugged in is NOT checked.
Also, on our phones, we notice the phones overheating because the screen is on for hours at a time at night.
I've just spent an hour looking through the internet, and while many report this, they are simply being dismissed by others as in having "checked" the setting in developer section.
Also, when the batttery does get fully charged, the "Battery if full, unplug the power" notification also rings the default notification ringtone. I've installed phoneweaver to set my phone to no sound overnight, but it only stops the sound, the screen still stays on and phone gets really hot.
This is turning out to be a huge problem for us.

Do you use a PIN (number) lock? I did but switched to the pattern unlock and it hasn't happened since. Also, I've been trying to charge only during the day or evening, not overnight. Maybe, since I charge during the day and I use it periodically while it charges it doesn't go into a "deep sleep" like it would if it charges while sleeping and the full charge notification would keep it awake. I don't know exactly why but it hasn't happened since. Hope this helps.

For whatever it's worth, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48871706#post48871706 - maybe that will be helpful.
I notice that whenever the phone is charging the display never shuts itself off despite being set to 1 minute. It happens in Stock and now in FreeGS4 v2.0.0.
I cannot find a setting to change that.
FreeGS4 at least disables the wakeup on charge so it does not sit half the night with the screen burning in but I would like to know if there is a way to enable the display timeout while charging.

First, check whether Developer Options in settings is ON/Off and if ON make sure "Stay Awake" is not checked.
If dev options are not ON, might try turning them on and see if that fixes anything.

Stay awake was checked in Dev Options. Exactly what I was looking for.
