Anyone else worried about this? Has anyone seen these issues? Do you think Google will offer a solution?
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/11/2...-blame-the-encryption-that-you-cant-turn-off/
Just use the posted fix to turn it off.
+1 to what gtalum said. Just flash the custom kernel to disable encryption by default. I feel that Google should allow users to opt out of encryption or to leave it for by default similar to how they've done it in the past.
It'll be interesting if someone compared the iPhone encryption on vs off since no one mentioned about the speeds.

I have never flashed a phone. I would like to try but I know my limitations and that I am bad at following directions.

iPhones use hardware encryption and have a dedicated chip for it, so the change is negligible.
That Google is using software encryption and leaving no official means to turn it off is puzzling and annoying.

GPS data retrieval not working when LTE activated?
Noticed this when inside building and requesting GPS location.
Anybody else experiencing this problem?
Note: I also notice the GPS lock icon coming on every 15 minutes, searching for location for up to 2 minutes at a time. App info for this notification: system UI.

Just to clarify this is "GSM/LTE", not "LTE only".
Rogers network/Canada
I was unable to place calls on "LTE only" (also not sure why)

There's been some discussion in this thread about issues with LTE and GPS.
1) Turn off LTE
2) Leave LTE off
3) Stop obsessing with LTE
Seriously tho, why does everyone have a hardon for LTE?

30-70mbps... Ask yourself why? It's literally light speed. I got 60-something Mbps down the other day.
I'm having the same issue. Gps locks on 3g just fine but doesn't seem get locked on 4g.
Yea really wishing somebody could find a fix to this.. There is an underlying reason

Its the same reason for why the other things in 4.2.2 don't work with the old radios, the device isn't supposed to have LTE, Google purposely broke things to stop you from using it.

Bro sometimes u seem like a big advocate of restrictions.
There is always a fix especially in the developing world of Android, it's just nobody has bothered because many areas don't have LTE or because whoever is using a fix, didn't make it public. Period.
Who gives a **** what the phone is "supposed to have" what it does have is a band-4 LTE chip. PERIOD.
Hardware is hardware.
"Oh hey I have a lambo with 500hp which is governor at 120kmh max speed, because you're not supposed to drive over the speed limit." - I'm sorry but in this case people would remove the governor and drive faster.

You're right, except that the problems are in closed source modules, if you want to try your hand at hex editing them and fixing the problems, go ahead, otherwise you should use the phone as it was designed or live with the problems that come with using it in a way it wasn't designed.
I am currently using aokp 4.2.2, with avast, adaway, textsecure, and have orweb (although I don't think I have ever even started it. lol)
I have nothing to hide, but I occasionally have OCD spurts where I do a lot of research into security and privacy. I am not terribly concerned about the government tracking me... My life is simply not that interesting. lol. I AM, however, a firm believer that if you can do something to improve your security, better safe than sorry.
I am not a master programmer yet, but I have been looking into rom development.
I started this thread to be a discussion of security enhancements and their viability / transparency / ease-of-use / effectiveness. All thoughts are appreciated, and I would love to hear what steps you take to make your device more secure. Also, I would like to hear from those who have used something in the past, but no longer because it was annoying / etc.

Which? Why? Recommendations? (Not just asking for me, this is more for those who may read this thread, and may want to improve security on their Nexus.)
I use Droidwall to control, which app has access to the internet. This is very helpful to keep the data usage down and to suppress ads. Also, you can make absolutely sure nothing is accessing the data connection while roaming - although I never had any problems with that.
This may not help you against the government, though
The best security tool is always the one between your ears. People often forget about that one. Knowledge is King. Be aware of what you are downloading. Outside that I use the app Cerberus in case my phone gets stolen. Nothing will completely protect your phone from a pro.

Private Internet Access is only £27 for a whole year. Completely unlimited, loads of high speed servers in different countries and they don't keep any logs at all.
Do a bit of research and you'll see they're very highly recommended
Hi all,
I am experiencing occasional wifi drops when streaming music. Unfortunately, this is a known problem on stock. Some custom kernels (e.g., Franco's) have made some improvements to the kernel to prevent these wifi drops. I know I can use one of those kernels, but I prefer them stock and moreover, I prefer to compile the system myself. However, I cannot find these changes that fix the wifi issue (I browsed through all the developer's github accounts, but can't find it). Could someone point me in the right direction? Which files should be altered? Thanks in advance!!
Mark
Franco uses stock WiFi drivers. He didn't tweak/modify them. The WiFi issue has to be fixed by Google. It's been a known issue. Interestingly enough I haven't experience it yet.
Probably you should really ask the developers about it.

Thanks. I know I could ask the developers, but I thought I'd try it here first (so i wouldn't bother them) I read something about fixing the wifi issue in changelogs, so that's why I assumed some developers had tweaked the drivers. But I'll ask them!
Did anyone see what this actually does? Does this unlock the bootloader? Just wondering.
Verizon probably forgot to remove it. I doubt it does anything

Yeah I saw that too, wondering if anyone could try anything with it??

no you can't do anything else. Also i know that your provider can tell if you have this option enabled because i was trying to get support for intermittent wifi and they asked me why i had it enabled.

Wow... sneaky bastards!
All phones on Marshmallow have this option by default even if it does nothing. It's a feature that Google is using for phones with unlockable bootloaders for increased security and it just happened to make its way here and on multiple other phones that don't allow unlocking.

It's like the dummy thermostat put on the wall behind the counter at banks.
Tellers are some of the fussiest folks when it comes to temperatures.
The HVAC management company never allows them to change settings.
So to stop complaints, they put a dummy thermostat up.
And it gets adjusted many times during the day.
And they feel better about it.

Seems Nobody knows what ONE Unlock is for.
Hey guys the unlock toggle what it does is when you enable it and you do a factory resett on your phone it makes it so there is no locking setup on your phone you do not have to verify through google or any pin that usrd to br established

So I'm in Europe for a few weeks and have been enjoying T-Mobile's unlimited data roaming while I'm here. I still try to be fair and use wifi for heavier downloads when I have access to it. I was able to update and download apps using just cellular data when I was using Marshmallow. I updated to Nougat and it no longer works. It downloads fine on wifi, and with data roaming off, when I try to download individual apps I get asked if I want to use only wifi as it will use alot of data. With data roaming on, no such question is asked and it just says pending until I connect to wifi.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix?
Thanks in advance for your responses!
Just reporting back. I'm back in the US and apps now download via cellular data again so it's clearly an android nougat "feature." They should give us the option to choose as this can be be a huge inconvenience for many as it was for me.

Same
Got the same issue and can't find a solution. Anyone has an idea how to change this?
Already tried all standard settings, altering updates on roaming etc.
Not fixed yet. All options tried.
M facing the same issue and there seems to be no solution to this currently
Same here, in different device. Reverted back to MM.
Either Motorola or Google has to take this issue of 'Disabled App Download/Upgrade on Roaming' feature seriously. This is a stupid kind of thing I have ever seen. It should be the decision of end user whether to update or not to update while on roaming. With implementing this irritating feature Android is ruining it's own image. This is one of the 'Dumbest thing' ever happened in software industry.
Totally upset with it. I am facing this issues & have seen many people complaining on different community forums regarding this issue since SEP-2016.
Only God knows when Android Developers will take it seriously. May GOD en-light Google on this !
