Notification LED confirmed - Nexus 6 General

Don't know if anybody else has noticed this but the Nexus 6 does have a notification LED inside the top speaker. Been messing around with Lightflow and I have got the light to light up under certain conditions.

Edit - Just so it's right at the top. This is what you need to know:
andrewpmoore said:
ok it actually seems to work quite well after a bit of experimenting in the adb shell.
You'll need root but with that try the following:
Choose root mode
run every command as root and
direct mode
Make sure "su"/superuser has access granted for all requests
Then go into lightflow, notification settings and you should have a
"mixer" option. Enable that and you should then see options to set the
red, green and blue leds and also an option to set their brightness.
The brightness is has a 255 max value (0 being off) - (255 max brightness) and it should work.
The led won't flash but you can mix them together to get different colors. Technically you don't need to use the mixer but there's more control with it from what I remember.

You will need the paid version of lightflow. The free version is not updated frequently and doesn't support all the required settings.
Also worth noting, that you can enable control of the "Charging" LED which is green only. If you use that LED, it's slightly brighter than using the standard "green" LED.
Also, brightness levels for the Charge LED are variable between 1 and 40. Over 40, it's no brighter.
The RGB LEDs seem to be on or off. I haven't seen any difference between brightness 1 and brightness 20 (or any other higher number, I just use 20 because the /sys/devices/leds-qpnp-f0067200/leds/red/max_brightness file indicates 20 is the max for this LED - it's 40 for the Charge LED)

Wow sweet find :good:

This is a beautiful thing, my friend.

K, I think I have steps to reproduce. Looks like you have to enable "Root mode" and "Run every command as root" then enable control of the "charging" LED. Then set up a notification to use that LED. The light doesn't respond to the different blink settings. Always seems to be solid for a few seconds then flashing for a few then back to solid.

As long as we have the hardware, the software will come in time. Loving this! Great find.

And it's always green, no matter what color I tell Light Flow to use.

The Moto X had one of those with the sole purpose to light up to indicate a charge when the battery was too depleted to power the screen to indicate charging. That's probably the reason it is here as well.

I doubt it. Modern moto devices have used a green/orange/red led as a backup to indicate charging when the battery is too critical to illuminate the panel. Same as the Moto X 2013/14, Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra as well as pretty much everything post RAZR HD. The exception being the Moto G which has a proper LED due to the LCD screen instead of AMOLED.
Still, nice find for those who want an alternative to ambient display.
Edit: Droid Mini had one iirc

Mind boggling how it could be on the device but utilized in no way.

As long as it can eventually be used to give me text/gmail/missed call notification, until I decide to check that notification even if it's 5 hours later, I am a happy camper. I don't even care if it is a single color. I am used to that from an old HTC device.

Maybe because Moto makes the phone and they went away from an LED notification about a year ago?
If you don't like the philosophy behind it, start your own hardware company. Lol.

Hmm...intersting find. I'm sure software could make this more useful.

The original Moto X and accompanying Droids had this (not sure about current ones) It was able to be manipulated through tasker. Its original purpose was when the battery was too dead to turn on the screen for the charging animation. Originally, it was only able to be used for battery notifications (charging, charged) but I believe people found away to use it for notifications too.

Awesome. Miss my LED.

Nice!

Woohoo!!

The way I see ut is that the button panel has its own backlight and is meant to turn on in complete darkness, but some evo's do it when the phone is off given enough power since the panel's software run a separate lower powered chip, but I'm no engineer. It can be fixed with a firmware update, probably.
Mine did this once. I turned it back on and killed a bunch of apps with advanced task killer, and then it quit. Think it was just a fluke because it hasn't happened since.. and that was about a week ago. If it's happening constantly even after reboots, I'd assume you have installed something that is acting retarded in the background.
actually it's not a software problem... I hard reseted and kepted the phone clean and checked at night. still LED problem being lit. I took it to a store and they are willing to replace the phone
Yes this happens to me alot and i have to remove the battery and put it back in i left the phone like that for 10 minutes and i click every button but does not come back on so have to remove the battery
My wife's has been doing that and it will not stop. Ive rebooted cleaned all apps and nothing. I'm trying to return it but am waiting for bestbuy to call me when they get more phones. Any one have a solution?

wish i had that problem. i really have no need for back lights on the menu. the bleed they cause is terrible when looking at dark movies.
on the droid, in froyo at least, the menu buttons dim when watching a movie or you can use LEDsHack to turn off the lights.
I posted this issue a couple days ago and got no replies. I have noticed this issue on my phone. Sometimes pressing volume up/down will cause the lights to come on too.
I wonder if this is the cause of poor battery life. It's almost as if the light sensor is still functioning when the phone is supposed to be sleeping.
I noticed this also on both mine and my girls 0002 models... You can see it during the day too if you cup your hands around the bottom of the screen just over the buttons and look under. Wasn't sure what that was all about. Looks like just another glitch to me.
Is this good enough reason to request exchange? Does this drain battery faster in any way?

Browser color invert for Nexus S

Hey guys, I've just heard that Cyanogen 6 and onwards has a "browser invert option" which should help with battery life on web browsing using SAMOLED/AMOLED devices.... so since the Nexus S's battery life was one of the main reasons I decided against this phone (see chart), can someone post a screenshot or a video with inverted-color web browsing?
Thanks.

i've been using the invert color option on cyanogen for nearly 5 months, but on my nexus one. i can say it makes an enormous difference, i've done extensive current tests too.
it really is just like you think, black sites become white, etc. every color gets flipped to its opposite. i dont really have any screenshots at the moment.
i can say from my power tests, my nexus one regular amoled screen, showing a white web page hammers at around -600mA, but showing that same page at black, is around -170mA. its a much needed savings.
for reference, an lcd screen would read -300mA the whole time, regardless of the color displayed.
EDIT: 2 nights ago i charged to full and browsed the web for 1 hour and 50 minutes of screen on time, on wifi, and was still at 82%. to me this seems with the invert color option, you could likely browser for 7-8 hours. i've done longer tests too and gotten up to 3 and a half hours, still above 50% easily.

I found a few screenshots.... i gotta say I have a lot of trouble believing it'll be something I can get used to... It would also look awkward on some sites where the white JPEG logo is supposed to blend with the white background.
there are a few minor issues once in a while, but it rarley gets in the way like that. besides, you can always just turn it off for a minute in about 3 seconds, then switch it back on. the battery savings are a no brainer. its free, it takes 2 seconds to turn on, and it works wonders. not sure what the downside is.

Can you screen burn GalaxyS 2

Probably a silly question, but last night I was charging the phone and played with it a bit. I didnt turn the screen off as it should go off automatically. I came back to it about 45 minutes later and the screen was still on. I assume this was because it was charging that the screen didnt go off. Anyway can you get screen burn if the screen is on for ages?
Thanks

Yea u can but it will take a few months. Just make sure you dont leave static images on for long periods of time like 45 min on a regular basis
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
As it was left with the screen on, it would have been a static image even if though it was in touchwiz at the time.
So as a one off will 45 mins not damage it? Not very impressed that the screen didnt go off. Is that a software bug, or is the screen supposed to stay on whilst charging?
Thanks

It's not on any of the Galaxy S II ROMs as Samsung removed the ability to keep the phone on while charging so as not to potentially introduce screen burn. This feature is one that I miss massively from my HTC. Though the screen clarity is worth the compromise
Not sure why yours is staying on though...

That would be an interesting warranty/debate with Samsung if you had screen burn then. Potentially I could get screen burn by the phone randomly deciding to stay on during charge - due to a bug in the software resulting in the screen staying on!
Thanks mate, solved the problem for me
Main problem is the status bar, ive set my launcher to always hide status bar and home button to show.
Be careful when your using GPS in your car cause thats on for ages on long drives...
I have learned the hard way on my SGS not to always keep my brightness at max!

yes it is a silly question to ask
you can get burn in if you leave screen on for 45 minutes with a static image on it, on maximum brightness.
if you suspect you have SB - just check your screen for sings of burnt in image , you would usually see it on plain gray I think, or just go through the 3 base colors in "*#0*#" menu at max brightness.

Hi there
I've just tried your test. I assume you mean the red, blue green colours at the top of the options? Seems ok from what I can see! Anyway my phone was on automatic brightness at the time, not maximum, so wouldn't have been as bright.
Just think it's poor that the phone screen stayed on whilst charging. From what I gather that is not supposed to happen, so must be a bug I would have thought.
Cheers
Havent noticed this on any of my previous AMOLED displays.
10characters.
So it is a problem if i use the GPS for let say an hour? There is an info bar on Sygic that is almost static.
I noticed that my screen stayed on when charging, but then I checked the display settings and saw that the damn thing was set to turn off after 10 minutes (I always used to just press the power button to turn it off quickly after use). I could have sworn I originally changed it to 1 min.. oh well
Hello, on other forum someone wrote that he noticed that his SII has picture burn in and about after 2 minutes, the burn in goes off and the picture is normal clear without burn in effect. He noticed this fact on maximum brightness.
What causes this effect?
Is it very early beginning of picture burn in or its nothing to do with burn in effect?
Do you recognize that also?
Thanx.
I am considering purchasing a Galaxy s 2 and this is an issue that worries me somewhat. I too would like to know if anyone has noticed any screen burn in issues with this phone. Thanks for your time.
It's a bit paranoiac to think screen will "burn" within an hour of same screen. They are made for such behavior. You won't break your screen by using GPS non-stop during 6 hours with screen on for example. (Unless you do that everyday for a couple weeks)

I also have it on my huawei nougat emui 5 and really like it...is there a way to keep it active for the whole charging process instead of shutting down after a few seconds ???
Me too
hehehe...i think a lot of people would like to have it
Very nice but we actually almost never see it because it disappears quickly. In other words a bit of a lost effort by huawei. Any way to keep it visible while charging?
Keeping it visible would only hurt the charging performance. The phone charges fastest when the screen is OFF.
The problem for me is I see this animation only when I plug the charger and after that pressing the power button only turns my screen on to unlock it and no more animation more to see.. so.. I also would like to see it more ..
Or what could be good is some sound after full charged..

But you're forgetting that this would cause problems for using the device as intended... if you want to do something as simple as check the time, signal status, wifi status, etc, then NONE of that info is available when the animation is playing. You'd have to unplug your phone every time you want to use it.
The animation should only show up briefly to let you know charging has begun. After that, your phone's LED will light up as a constant visual indicator that it's still charging. Plus, the LED turns green once the battery is full. If you really want a sound, you can download an app to do that.
Hii @PuffDaddy_d
Yeah, thats explained good
But one thing I do not do often..
Is if you want something to download it from the store
I like it more as in-build option if possible
And if not I am rather without it then download bunch of apps to have it
Well, one thing I do like is the xposed.. thats for me something different then to search on play store
But yeah, again you explained it in a good way as it should work
There's any way to disable it?
I would also like to know if the charging animation in the lockedscreen can be disabled. It annoys me. It leaves me with a few seconds where I can't do or see anything.

Now slowly, the green screen would start to flicker at times and lo one day, it would turn into a pale green light. You wont be able to do anything with the phone.
My IMMEDIATE ADVICE ...
TAKE a COMPLETE BACKUP of your data as soon as you read this message.
Secondly
Try turning the Blue Light filter off, Change the saturation of the phone and see if you are still seeing the green shade,
Send this device to service center.
EDIT :- Just now noticed the OP's date is almost a year old.

Is there a fix ? i dont wanna pay 250$ to replace the screen.it works well in full brightness
i got the same green screen on galaxy s8+ today after using it for 2 years i had custom kernel with hari rom, the phone is usable in full brightness, it has green overlay with horizontal line flickering over it i think this a motherboard issue, have your issue resolved ? what you did? i am thinking to change board and see
I have fixed my phone twice with this problem. You need to heat up the screen. Full brightness then record video for an hour. You should see the greenness recede. If there are green lines st the bottom which don't disappear, use a hairdryer on the screen. You will see the green vanish in 30seconds. When the phone cools, it will come back. You need to keep regularly reheating your screen to get rid of it, like every 20 minutes for a day or, 2. Eventually it will clear up. It's a pixel what issue. Heating the screen repeatedly restores functionality, after least in my case.

It is correct that it works in full brightness. Turn off the adaptive brightness and voila you can continue to work with full brightness. However, you can also reduce your
pixel to full HD from QHD to continue in this mode. I have been working on this for last few days else the ****sung care only want's to replace the screen combo .
Will try the heating methodology. I have doubts about battery also and planning to change and see.
Same issue just popped up today for me. Rooted nougat ROM with safestrap. It's definitely not the screen itself, and it's behavior is Sunday strange, it'll show up on webpages or other screens that are mostly white, but not on the dark mode applications.
so it's green on this thread and it gets less green when I open Chrome's settings on the top right.
Reboot fixes it. Until it comes back again.
Started to face this green tint issue on my S8 recently, the phone worked well for the past two years until suddenly one day this green **** happened. Never dropped the phone and never rooted it. For now rebooting the phone solves the issue, until it comes back. Till now it happened 5-6 times in a week. Rebooting fixes it and then it runs normally for sometime (or somedays) then it happens again.
Any solution?
Apparently it is a software problem, something about some screens batch that does not received well those new patches. i took my s8 g950fd at a Samsung authorized store and is was what they told me, but they don't fix it for free if it is not on warranty even though it is a Samsung software problem. I have tried to root and change roms, but it seems my cellphone does not accept root or new roms. if some one know how to help me id be grateful.
my screen has green after unlock bootloader. i didn´t anything, so im tired :/
Sounds like a firmware bug* on at least some of these. Samsung tech support sucks elephant balls bad. Obviously Samsung is well aware of this issue by now.
*during a production run Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed. This can cause erratic firmware/update behavior as the substituted components don't have the correct values and/or code. If so you're in a fubar because Samsung is unlikely to supply the needed patch at this late date.
You can try flashing the original firmware, be wary of updates. It could be a system apk update as well.
It could also be a hardware failure on a whole batch(es) of these phones.
started having this problem suddenly now, didn't drop it, didn't do any updates. wow!
