Talking Moto x - Moto X General

Hey guys,
I have this problem on my 2013 Moto x that since this morning it started talking like the accessibility settings were on and also putting an orange line in a Google search result page. I've checked the accessibility settings and talk back is off, also checked out other sound related settings without result. Restarting the phone doesn't help. Can anyone help me with this problem, cause it's not only really annoying but the talking also comes when the phone is silent (and yes, I did check Google now settings too) witch is even more annoying cause I can't have my phone on at work. Hopefully you can help me out.

Even if Talkback is off in the accessibility services, try turning it on and back off again to see if that helps. Sometimes there is a disconnect between the actual state and the displayed state. This sounds exactly like Talkback, from what you described.

Tried to do that, didn't work. Sorry I didn't mentioned it before.

Maybe this will help. For as far as I noticed, I only have the problem in feedly and the Google search bar

Android checkin service - 70-80% of cpu

Hey guys,
So the other day I rebooted my blade, and it was running painfully slow. I rebooted again and again to no avail, so downloaded a cpu meter.
The results from this were that android/checkin service is using a drastic (70-80%) of the cpu when this is happening.
I launched a terminal, killed the process, the phone rebooted and it was fine.
Now the problem is, if i reboot my phone again it goes back into slow mode, with the checkin service using the cpu.
Anybody know anything about this process?
Im running stock rom, unlocked, rooted, uninstalled bloatware, using go launcher, custom lockscreen and custom font.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like an app failing to sync data. Try betterbatterystats - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 it might help you to find out which app.
Wow really? One app failing to sync uses that much? Wow. Hmm i'll give that a try. Is that syncing with market updates? Or just general sync?
Thanks for the reply, hope it isnt an app i use a lot :S

A badly written app misbehaving could. If you find out what it is then you can try changing whatever app settings might be causing it, removing app data, or uninstalling the app. Better battery stats should give more information on what app it is, i think android checkin could be any app that syncs data. either that, or it's some kind of location checkin thing, have you used lattitude at all? it could be that.
Unfortunately betterbatterystats isn't free in the market, and the dow load links in the post arn't compatible :-/

So according to astro's process manager it's 'system_server'.
Does that shed any light on it?

okay so i think i've solved it by turning off location services.
It might be because foursquare recently added assisted gps.
So, looking around the internet, this problem stems back to when google latitude and other location services were created. Something along the lines of multiple location requests kills the device.
If thats the case, then why is it still affecting phones today? I'll let you know if it has properly fixed it though.

It could be foursquare or latitude, maybe the combination of both. My money would be on latitude, if you've ever set it up, it seems to be quite badly made & i don't think many people use it, but google insist on bundling it with google maps. Maybe you can turn it off if you open the app & press menu, I never joined, so I'm not sure.
Turning off location services will affect apps that you might want to use, like maps & navigation.
Well I don't have latitude on mine, it may have been installed but i removed it when i was clearing bloatware. Havent had a problem since turning off location services, perhaps forsquare uses the same buggy api as latitude? I dont need location services much anyway, and as long as i turn it off before a restart it should be okay

And it's done it again, even with location services disable... :-/

If you don't want location services then why do you have foursquare installed?
I did want them enabled, but I thought it had solved the problem, which evidently it hasn't. Uninstalled it for good measure and it still did it, so no idea what it could be now.

[Q] Any way to prevent Facebook app from sharing my location?

I have enabled location sharing from settings since I frequent use my phone for turn-by-turn voice directions and some pedometer-like apps to count my activity. I also like some Google Now functionality that enabling location access gives.
However, besides disabling this setting system-wide, it seems that the Facebook app always shares my location when I post status updates - and I find that extremely annoying. I scanned all app settings and could not find a way to disable location sharing from Facebook.
My question - is there anyway I can keep the system-level setting while preventing Facebook app from accessing location? I have not rooted my phone (Nexus 4) but will be willing to do so if that can help me with this problem.. Any suggestions?
Doesn't the LBE security software allow you to set permissions on a per app basis? I think you need to search for it on xda for the translated version.
Facebook doesn't share my location each update, I just checked a bunch of previous ones and they don't mention it at all.
Thanks!! LBE seems like it might do the trick... Will root my phone tomorrow morning and put lbe.

Rusty try checking in to some place once. After that it will always share your location for all posts you make. I checked in one without knowing this‚ and there is no way to undo it after.

Its under settings in the Facebook app
I don't see it under settings... Can you please elaborate? The only setting I see is for sharing location on Chat/messenger but that does not change the location sharing behavior on regular posts.
Any way‚ I rooted the phone but lbe privacy does not work with jelly beans (soft reboot on startup - several recent reviews on play store also says that).. So for now after resetting the phone I've not used the checkin feature on Facebook.. It's a bad workaround and I hope LBE fixes it's jelly bean issues soon.
Thanks again

GPS won't turn off

Hey everyone,
I have the AT&T 32GB GS4. For the past few days, I have been experiencing odd battery drainages during the second half of the day. I was looking at the battery section of the settings menu, and when I turn off GPS through the notifications bar (when I'm done navigating), the GPS is showing that it is still running. It doesn't turn off until I restart the phone. Also, Google Services is taking up 40%+ of the battery and it hasn't done that ever. I've had this phone for a month.
Any ideas?

could be location service related or weather app related. freeze all apps you DL'd and check again.
That didn't work. I turned off all apps and cleared data for Maps. Also, none of my apps are allowed to use my location.

try doing a factory reset from the settings menu. Just backup everything you want to keep onto your sd card
Do you have yahoo weather installed

[Q] GPS icon?

Dear members,
Since I installed kk the GPS icon is always present in the notification bar (see picture). Is this normal? If not, what can I do about it too get rid of it? I already tried disabling location services but that doesn't work.

Nobody? Why is it always present?

I also have this problem with the 4.4.2 update. Even turning location services off doesn't remove the icon. The only way I've found - apart from a restart - is to launch a Google app which invokes GPS (such as Google Maps) and then close it.
I've seen this too, running C-RoM. Doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, I reboot to clear it. No idea what causes it, although I have a gut feeling it correlates with Maps usage.

Can't turn off 'ok google'

This has been causing me problems for weeks now.
In the Google settings I have all voice settings turned off but the Google search bar still pops up with 'say ok google' and it still works even on other pages.
It's as though it's completely ignoring the settings and stuck on the from any page setting.
Anyone have any possible ideas for fixes?

Try to clear data of Google Now if possible.
Otherwise try to uninstall Google Now and re-install the latest version
I've tried both of those as a first step and it still happens.
Really quite annoying as I'm pretty sure it's causing considerable battery drain.
Only thing I can do for now is deny the microphone permission for google now but this also prevents android auto from using voice commands. And it still says it's activated on the search bar

Applications manager
Go to settings. Applications, applications manager , google app, permissions and disable microphone and any other permission you dont want it to have.
