I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but I cannot find a clear answer.
My Verizon Note 3 came from the store with Kit Kat.
I put safe strap recovery on it, and have it running AllianceROM build 2 right now.
I want to go back to stock, just as it came from the store, so I can give it to a friend. No root, no safe strap, just stock.
Can I simply just ODIN back with the stock 4.4.2 tar file? Is that really all there is to it?

I was confused on firmware versions, because I bought my Note 3 late in its' release, and it came with 4.4.2 (NC4), and from there I rooted and did the safestrap thing. Many restore-to-stock threads focus on 4.3, and you can't go backwards in firmware from what I understand.
Okay so, anyone with a newer (4.4.2/NC4) Note 3, you can go back to stock by following the guide in the thread above. It worked for me anyway. Just follow the instructions but make sure you download the 4.4.2 firmware and not the 4.3 version, and make sure you wipe/factory reset afterwords. :victory:

I have owned samsung phones since the original s1 and it's always been easy to flash a stock rom using odin.whenever I had a problem with my current rom or soft bricked I just downloaded the tar odin file flashed pda in odin and went back to 100% stock. But I cannot for the love of God seem to find this easy on at&t s4. A buddy gave me his s4 to update it to latest 4.3 but cannot find any odin tars for any of the 4.3 updates..and when I find it why is it split up by recovery/bootloader etc? So my question is how do i go from 4.2.2 to 4.3 using odin, because he cannot do it via kies or ota

There is no 4.3. First off, if he's on MDL then you should root and get recovery and use the StockUp ROM, because that way he'll get 4.3 MK2 but also be able to change ROMs to something like Cyanogemnod. If he already has MF3 then there's a nice clear thread with "UPDATE.ZIP" in the title you can find in the general section with all the information you should need.

what do you mean there's no 4.3, you mean an odin image of 4.3?? thats what I meant why is it that on my t-mobile s4 they have the complete image of the stock rom, is it because att version has a locked bootloader?? I never had to mess with update.zip files ever on a samsung phone, excuse my ignorance.

I know where to look now thanks, my originally question is why we even have to bother with update.zip instead of just flashing 1 odin file that has complete stock rom like in all other samsung phones.

Locked bootloader. There is tons of informative threads about it in the general, q&a, development, original development. and developer's only sub-forums.

Yes, i meant no ODIN image. There's a locked bootloader and they're trying so hard to keep us from modifying it they make it so you can only get repairs through the Samsung centers and such where they check if you tried to mod it and are supposed to not do anything to help you if you did. As scott said, you can find plenty more information around and probably better explanations than my theories.
I think the last full stock rom was I337UCUAMDL or just MDL. Since then though, each update has been just merely that, an update or patch. So there isnt a full rom of 4.3 MK2. Your best bet, which i just did yesterday, is to use Ted77USA's thread on the bricked MK2, third post in his thread. Follow this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573080&nocache=1 Again pay attention to it all. Worked out very well for me and my issue. Sure it should be as easy for you.
I've been wanting to have Android 4.4.2 on my Note 3 N9005 for a long time and my Carrier still hasn't released official 4.4 update. I've had enough waiting and want to root and install a custom 4.4 rom on my Note 3 N9005(international). Would anyone be so kind to give me detailed information on how to do so, or at least point me in the right direction. I've also got a few questions.
1. Is there any way to leave Knox not tripped?
2. Is there any way to downgrade from a custom ROM to my official 4.3 rom if I'll need my garrancy?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

On N9005 there is no way back. Knowing that you must really analyze the benefits vs losses/risks. Which for instance for me at this point do not justify the move (but I am rooted and I already have 99% of what 4.4 brings).

Are you suggesting that I should stay on my stock ROM and wait for 4.4? I've read things about 4.4 and a lot of people say it's a lot better than 4.3, faster, etc. I'm really tired of waiting, my carrier sucks.
If you just want to have 4.4.2 and stay official, pick one of any released official 4.4.2 firmwares available to flash.

Alright, but do I need to be rooted or do I need to have a custom recovery before flashing via Odin? Will flashing an official ROM trigger Knox to 0x1 or will it leave it unchanged because I don't want my garrancy void?
@markslo112 you don't need nothing but your phone, usb cable and pc to flash with odin. Flashing an offcial rom will NOT trigger Knox!

Ok that's good to hear. If I flash 4.4, will I still be able to install a custom recovery and then a custom Rom? I'm just asking because if I get tired of stock 4.4. Also, is it safe to flash via Odin? I don't want my phone to get bootloops or anything.
Thanks!
I think before you do anything to your phone for the good of yourself you better stop posting and do more reading instead in this forum. You will confuse yourself by asking more and seems not knowing what you are asking about.

You will be able to install custom recovery/rom but it will trip your knox.
It is safe but do some reading maybe even watching a video or two on youtube to familiarize yourself on which files goes to which slot. Also, you won't be able to roll back to 4.3 at this time once you go to 4.4.

Well I've actually rooted and installed custom ROMS on almost every other phone I had, but the Note 3 is far the best mobile I've had and I really don't want to screw anything up. I do have experience with Odin, but I've never had any experience with Knox as no other phones had it. But I will go ahead and read stuff up.
Thanks to everyone that helped though! :fingers-crossed:
UPDATE:
Alright, so I tried flashing an official 4.4.2 firmware for my region onto my Note 3 with 4.3 via Odin 3.09. It started perfectly, but then gave me an error which said "invalid ext4 image". After a long search I did manage to find a PIT file for my phone. I then tried flashing again, but this time with the PIT file that I downloaded. It flashed fine, had to factory reset and wipe cache also. :victory:
Hi all! I'll start by saying this, I'm not a COMPLETE noob here. I have had a fair share of experience with rooting and flashing roms; However when i got my new S4 i stepped up in the world of android and am sorta lost now lol. Currently I'm stock MF3 with AT&T, and in a bit I will flash the MK2 update.zip and root then. Well, my understanding of SafeStrap is that it uses the phones memory to make virtual slots for roms, therefor (correct me if I'm wrong) the current system doesn't get wiped. Now I have searched, searched, searched, read, read, AND read, multiple threads trying to find my answers and I've just ended up with confusuion. If my understanding off SS is correct I want a rom that is Stock 4.4.2, Fast, battery enhancing, and most importantly Stable. I saw on in Particular that stood out to me and that was Vision-X but the post to me confused me whether i could use it on the NB1 build. Another question I have: Is NC1 worth it? I've seen that I could do a work around to keep root from NB1 and go to NC1, And Finally my last question (thus far): Can I flash themes i whip up myself with Universal online Theme Kitchen? Is that compatible? I hope that the XDA community can help me once again with my questions and guide me onto the right track. Thanks in advance XDA!!!

You don't have to upgrade past MK2, and it doesn't matter if you're just going to put a custom ROM on. I believe the ROM you mentioned is compatible, but you could always check the All Things MK2 & NB1 thread. With safestrap on MK2 you'll be able to run both 4.3 and 4.4.2 ROMs by using Om ODIN to switch kernels. As for themes, Safestrap allows all normally flashable zips, so it's a matter of whether the kitchen is compatible.
Thanks for the reply! Currently im Stock NB1 and rooted. I'm going to flash Skyfall.Ill see what happens.
Edit: Flashed Skyfall but for some reason after reboot i get stuck on the Samsung splash screen. I followed the installation guide, am i missing something?
Since i didn't update my bootoader when using the keep root method to NB1 i used Odin to get back to stock MK2. Which SS version should i use to try and flash skyfall?
Ok, I have been running an OLD version of SACs custom ROM for a while (Pre Kitkat I think).
I am considering going back to stock Rooted with the Hotspot mod only.
I've been out of the "flashing" scene for a while, so what's the easiest way to go back to current stock w/ rooted & hotspot mod? If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it!
1. Please don't post questions in the development forum.
2. Find Unknownforce's stock rooted NAE thread.
3. Read and follow his directions.

Thanks, I'll look up his.
Been reading different threads. So if I just flash i Rooted NAE ROM I should be ok? I just want to make sure since I am coming from an OLD version of SACS.

You'll probably have to Odin the NAE modem as well. Somewhere in unknown's thread are the instructions to do and keep a pre Knox bootloader
Ok, 1 more question...
If I want to go back to complete stock from the old SACS Rom...
Could I just flash a stock MDL to my phone and then tell the phone to update it's self and let it OTA update to current version?
Would there possible be any problems with that?
Just curious as I have an old stock MDL already on my computer from when I was flash long ago.
I know this way I would have KNOX but I honestly don't really care too much.
That will take a bit, but will work for sure.

You should not do this! If you have a newer bootloader than the MDL install will fail. All you need to do is download the full NAE tar file and install it. You will be updated in one step and you won't lose data. you can get the full NAE tar from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619
Hey guys,
I am looking to flash stock 4.4 on my S5. I am currently running 5.0 PB1 but the bootloader cannot be downgraded as I'm sure many of you know. Any link to a stock 4.4 ROM with no bootloader would be greatly appreciated. I preferred the darker look of KK compared to MM or Lollipop
If I remember correctly, this is the thread you need: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/installing-custom-roms-newly-rooted-t3292655
See the 2nd post. Read through the thread and ask questions.
This thread is interesting...https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880. My S5 came with PF4 6.01 loaded on it, so I downgraded to PB1 5.0, rooted, and then unlocked the bootloader. I came from an S3 running BoneStockROM 3.4 which is 4.1.2, so I would love to run NK2 on my S5, which I think is 4.4.4.

I'm not rooted and I have no plans to root, I was talking about a tar file that will work on PB1. I have tried to root it, but have failed. I'm not the most experienced when it comes to rooting. I've tried asking on reddit, but no one had a link. I've seen some people with the PB1 bootloader running 4.4 so I thought it was possible.
