Dear XDA peoples.
Firstly I ask to humbly excuse my ignorance in these matters, but for a girl who grew up on tinkering with symbian Nokias I am finding the last problem with my S4 quite daunting.
I am hoping some kind soul on here can help me and yes I have spent hours searching for a solution I'm not just being lazy and I do understand the very basics.
I have an Australian delivered S4 i9505 and I took days to reads the forums on how to flash my s4 so I could have ultra power saving mode.
After reading the very helpful forums on these boards I managed to get the latest ECHOE ROM running and its amazing improvement on what I had before !
The only problem is that now everytime I hit the right standby button to go into standby it loses signal completely .
Again after checking the forums they explained that this is a known problem and one of the solutions is to simply force the phone on GSM only.
This does work but is not practical in reality as I need 3G to work for internet and coverage.
The guides also talk about making sure the "LTE" flag is set to true using ROOT explorer and it is.
I have also as the guides suggested loaded my "baseband" modem through ODIN again to no avail.
In the phone about box it displays :
Model Number : GT-I9505
Android version : 4.4.2
Baseband Version : I9505DVUBME4
Kernal Version : 3.4.104AELKernel-v6.3-Mainline

In the echoe Rom faq : at echoerom dot com forward slash faq it does say
Q: I have poor connection and/or i keep losing connection occasionally when screen shuts. Is there a fix for this?
A: Yes. Flash MJ5 modem in Odin.
Again excuse my ignorance , but could a learned person actually elaborate on the above and it is applicable to my situation ?
Does this mean I need to flash a modem that is not specifically for my model ?
I sincerely apologise in advance if any of the above are moronic questions and a huge hug to all you smart people on this forum.
Bec88
same issue, same questions here ^-^ but using Imperium v14 ROM
It's not a moron question.
You lose the signal because I assume you are still on the old bootloader.
A. You can upgrade the bootloader (just flash a 4.4.2 stock rom), then reflash the custom rom you want.
or
B. You can flash a non-hlos/wifi fix modem (those are for the old bootloader).
Here you have some explanation:

Thankyou !
Dear Lennyz1988,
Thanks for your rocket speed help, but when I explained losing signal, the WIFI is fine I lose the Carrier 3G signal.
And Lennyz please dont laugh, how do I know If I am on the old bootloader !
Bec
Thanks for the great help. I just installed the new bootloader and the modem and it works fine now

Hi, I had also the issue that my 3G (mobile network) was off once I turned the screen off.
I just used the way on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50965837#post50965837
and installed with Odin:
Combined package - both modems in one flashable file.
GSM_Modem_XXUGNJ8_and_LTE_Modem_XXUGNJ8
Bootloader
BL_I9505XXUGNJ8_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT
Now it is working again.

It should work fine. Be aware of:
1. If you're using a custom ROM which has some sort of advanced power menu where you can select Reboot -> Download Mode... choose Power Off instead.
2. Now, press & hold the power, volume down and home button. When you're greeting with an informational screen, press volume up.
3. Connect the USB cable (not to a microwave oven).
4. Start Odin (preferably version 3.04 or 3.07). Make sure all checkboxes on the left hand side of the screen are NOT checked.
5. Select "PHONE" and link to the modem file you want to flash (modem.bin, modem.tar, modem.tar.md5).
6. Once the process is done (wait for the green box to turn green and display PASS), disconnect the USB cable and hold down the power button to reboot the phone.
I assume you are on the old bootloader, because you have an old modem. Thus you never updated to the new bootloader.
Flash a combined package and it should fix it.
All Fixed,
Thanks so much Lennyz & Co, it worked flawlessly.

hi
Im looking for my old firmware ASAP
Model # GT-P1000
Firmware - 2.2
Baseband: P1000XXJK5
Kernel ver: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build # - Froyo.xwjj7
Where can i find the exact firmware?
Thanks,
Samfirmware dot com is where you can download the JK5. There is a tablet section of the website and you'll find all the available FW. JK5 is still good to download but stay away from AMY JM version if you do not know exactly what you are doing.
P_
Thank you pakalrtb,
Ya i went to that site you mentioned. The thing is that i got P1000XXJK5 from there. But its not the same as i had before. See kernal below / Build.
Baseband: P1000XXJK5
Kernel ver: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build # - Froyo.xwjj7
Can you help me please on that?
Thanks again
Hmm, it's strange because the baseband says JK5 and the FW version says JJ7. It's kind of conflicting because the baseband seems to be newer than the FW, and the Kernel "may" belong to the JJ7. How did you get with this combination ?!?!?!
By the way you may want to download from samfirmware the JJ7 and extract the Kernel ( Zimage ) file from there.
P_
Dont know what to tell you.... I got the the the above spec. Only cause i was having problems did i go to the JJ5 (big mistake)
So which of the below should i try? Can i downgrade as well?
P1000XWJJ7 - 2010 October
P1000XWJJ7 ## NEW - 2010 October
P1000XXJK5 ## 2010 November
Can the repair center see if i changed firmwares?
Thanks
I honestly do not understand yr point. JK5 seem to be quite a reliable rom (with the exception of a very laggy browser). You may want to tell what you are trying to fix rather than trying to get a pieces combination that does not even make sense to me. Flash JK5 and your tab should be just fine.
Thanks pakalrtb.
I flashed it to JM6 and everything works. the only thing im missing is csc files.
Can you help me on this pls.
Tx
a quite easy (or actually stupid way) to have ur stock csc back is just use root exploxer to copy /system/csc from a stock un-flashed TAB to ur TAB.
Then press *#1234# and u will get what u want.
I don.t have this as I only have jj3 instead~asia version csc
i hear you. No one has a tab that i know.
I hope you did NOT flash the JM6 from samfirmware, or you'll b stuck with a signed bootloader. Some earlier version of rotohammer jm6 had the problem of a blank pda and csc fields. Make sure that your installation is completed. Put your tab in recovery mode ( power on + vol up ) and it will automatically load the csc files, then reeboot.
P_
Thank
Just downloaded

Official Firmwares for the Samsung Galaxy Grand DUOS GT-I9082L (Latin Variant)

FIRMWARE: I9082LUBUBMK2
OS VERSION: 4.2.2

- New "Galaxy GranD" Splash Screen
- Brighter Display
- Gradient Notification Bar
- Better/More Readible Text Layouts: Weather widget, Settings/Menus, Google Search bar
- Minimum UI & Sound changes (Notification/Pop ups, Keyboard sound, Gallery Swipe sound, etc.)
- Homescreen Lag Fixed
- Improved light effect
- GPU driver upgrade: Images now are displayed with higher resolution.
Samsung seems to have done some upgrades to the GPU, for in the past I'd load a High Resolution Wallpaper and it would pixelate, now, it looks great, the same goes with the lockscreen light effect, a bit smaller effect, buta noticeable higher resolution. Overall... this factory firmware feels like its a custom ROM. Touchwiz feels light, the notification pane is silky smooth. Nice. So far, the best one yet.

Yes, this is the reason why in the forum we post the latest firmwares.
There are several ways but the most common is with ODIN (Samsung Firmware Update Utility).
Odin Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
Example Odin Flashing Guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46440034
Basic Walkthrough:
1. Download and Decompress the firmware
2. Download and Install Odin on your computer (if you dont have Kies, it would be wise to install it for it's driver, option B: download Samsung device drivers.)
3. Load Odin, select the PDA tab and find your firmware, it should be in ".tar" form
4. Boot device in 'Download Mode', (Press VOL- / Home / Power)
5. Connect USB Cable to device and PC, press VOL+ to continue
6. Once a YELLOW Prompt shows up with a COM port displayed, PRESS "START"
7. Let ODIN Flash the firmware until the YELLOW Prompt displays "PASS" in GREEN.
Read the Guide first, this is just a quick walkthrough.
Good luck,
Paul

Factory Firmwares have everything included (kernel too), so you dont need to flash anything else. If you choose to flash a third-party or modded kernel, then you follow the same steps.

i9082lvjubmj1...
Firstly some details....
Galaxy was rooted but was still stock ROM. The ONLY change I did was install Adaway - nothing else
Anyway, I used Kies v2.x today (25/11/13) to backup my phone - when I started it up it said there was a new firmware update. I did a backup & then like a idiot - I decided to accept it.....
... everything seemed to go OK... it installed, rebooted etc etc & when I checked all the apps still worked, home screen OK etc etc.
I then decided to do a bit of Browsing - so dragged down the notification bar & tapped the Wifi.... It didn't turn on.
It moves over to ON - then moves straight back to 'off'
Instead I get a silver shield pop up, & a 'Security notice' stating - 'your device's security has blocked an action that is not permitted. No further action is required'
Long tap on this brings up a [App info] box & tapping this shows 'Knox notification manager'
Tried googling this & I find it's part of Samsung 'security', so started trying to find how to fix/bypass/stop it from blocking me from turning on my Wifi
Some suggestions were ..Softreset,reset data/cache, pull battery - even hard reset... nothing worked (couldn't 'freeze' the app(s) as Titanium need to be brought for that feature)
Now I thought I'll just restore the backup I did for contacts etc, so I can at least use it as a phone & hope that Samsung DID **** up with the firmware & a new firmware will fix it
- but re-starting Keis & it tell me v2 is not compatible with my phone & I have to use V3, so I downloaded/Upgraded it & it sees the phone, but trying to restore the backup & it fails
I checked my 'rom' counter & that's is set to 0 & device status shows 'samsung' - however doing a 'update check' (from within phone) states my phone is 'modified' (I guess it's sees SuperSU or the modified host file)
I managed to restore my contacts using GPRS (but it cost me a package as I'm on PAYG), but why cant I get my Wifi to turn on ??
Without that I can't restore any apps (easily)... or update or do anything
Is it a cockup by Samsung with their firmware update ??
Is it this dam 'Knox' thing..??
Is it because of the 'altered Host' file from adaway ??
Is it because it was 'rooted' ??
I've seen posts about restoring the stock firmware, which directs me to Sam's webpage - but the only GT-i9505 I found there for a UK unlocked/unbranded phone is a GT-i9505 LTE (I guess I should use the BTU & not Branded ones) which I'm pretty sure isn't mine (I may be wrong) & apparently I have to sign up to download it anyway
Has anyone else had this problem ??
What can I do to fix it ??
Can anyone help ??
I've only had this phone for a couple of days & I hate to think it's been buggered up by Samsung Firmware Update
I'm not being funny but if you use the search feature in the Q&A section there are loads of threads to do with WiFi not working and multiple solutions. Its hit and miss which solutions work and which don't, so go through them and come back when they haven't worked.

I have, but I've only tried the 'simple' things (soft/hard rest etc) since for a newbie like me many posts are very confusing
for example this one (although its for rooting) has a bit about
FYI: ODIN has problems with flashing latest FW's and if WiFi doesn't work you MUST flash ROM again or use matching WiFi-FIX (post #2) to make it work.

however looking at 2nd post & there's a link to WiFifix where there are many files, which I am unsure which one to use.
Kies 3 tell me I have PDA:MK8 / Phone:MH8 / CSC:MK5 (BTU) & there a MK8 AND a MH8 file there - so which one do I use ? (BTW, I updated the firmware originally using Keis so I don't think the WiFi fix is really relevant, but reflashing the ROM with Odin MAY be useful to know.. if only I know WHICH rom to use) I won't be able to use keis since v3 tells me that 'Your device current firmware is not supported to update via Kies'
> I've read about flashing a Modem with Odin - but that didn't say where I can get it from or which file to use
> I've read articles about 'Knox Warrenty' being '1' or '0x1' (or whatever) - so how do I check that ??
> I've also read about 'freezing' the Knox apps to 'allow' me to turn on my Wifi - but to do so Titanium is recommended (& it has to be the paid for version to 'freeze' apps)..
which I cant download because I have no Wifi (& it costs a FORTUNE to do so using PAYG)
> I've also seen posts about UNROOTING the phone by using Odin & install stock ROM (in case you need to send back to Samsung)
In second post there's quite a few United Kingdom BTU (I assume I need a BTU for an Unbranded Sim-free phone) with different version.. I I assume for the latest version it's the first one in the list
United Kingdom BTU (November 2013) (NO DOWNGRADE)
PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
MODEM: I9505XXUEMK8
Version 4.3
but how do I find out if the Modem is correct ??
& since I have problems with the Wifi with the latest version - perhaps there's a problem with it in general,
can I downgrade back to 4.22 ?? I've not seen any mention if this is possible & once again - WHICH one do I use ? there like 3 or 4 different ones
> I've also seen post elsewhere that direct me to sammobile.com - I assume my GT-i9505 is the same as a 'GT-i9505LTE' (that is how much of a newbie i am) since that is the only UK BTU they have...
Checking firmware on the site & it shows
PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
Modem: I9505XXUEMK8
Latest firmware version
GT-I9505 Galaxy S 4 LTE
PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
MODEM: I9505XXUEMK8

PDA and CSC match (I think) with Keis (as it only show the last 3 characters) but once again .. how do I find out the Modem ?
FYI in 'About Phone', which might be useful for anyone who can offer me proper advice into which file(s) I should use (I forgot to add it to first post), I have :-

PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
MODEM: I9505XXUEMK8
Version 4.3

Yes that'll be the most recent
But how do I find out if the Modem is correct ??

I don't get what you mean. Correct for what?
Since I have problems with the Wifi with the latest version - perhaps there's a problem with it in general,
can I downgrade back to 4.22 ?? I've not seen any mention if this is possible & once again - WHICH one do I use ? there like 3 or 4 different ones

There is a massive problem with the updates lately, Samsung have pulled almost all of the 4.3 updates in UK and US from what I've read.
I think you can install a 4.2.2 version but that won't get rid of KNOX, people are still trying to work out a way of getting rid of it.
> I've also seen post elsewhere that direct me to sammobile.com - I assume my GT-i9505 is the same as a 'GT-i9505LTE' (that is how much of a newbie i am) since that is the only UK BTU they have...
Checking firmware on the site & it shows
PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
Modem: I9505XXUEMK8
Latest firmware version
GT-I9505 Galaxy S 4 LTE
PDA: I9505XXUEMK8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
MODEM: I9505XXUEMK8
Added: 2013-11-22
PDA and CSC match (I think) with Keis (as it only show the last 3 characters) but once again .. how do I find out the Modem ?

Again, not being funny, but you just wrote/copied the bit you need to look at.
MODEM: I9505XXUEMK8

Thanks for replying & yes I know that many things I've said do sort of confirm what I think may be the right ROMs etc..
But I would like to be ABSOLUTELY sure I use the right one. Many posts say you can seriously brick your phone using the wrong files
> I guess the modem files are somewhere in the forums on Sammobile then ??.. I never look that hard there
> In download mode - the text in the corner is so small I can barely read it.. guess I have to get a magnifying glass to see that
> Had a derpy moment about the download via PC & transfer over.. & as said I would still need a paid version of Titanium to freeze apps.
Yes I could google & download from suspicious sites (there's no way to get it from Play store for example) but that's one thing I REALLY hate doing - you never know whats been added
The bit I mentioned about 'modem' - Can you get 'stock' roms with different modem files ?
.. I know you can get customized roms of stock . but worried that using the wrong file can seriously brick your phone
All I wanted to know is how do I find out what Modem is installed atm on my phone to check its the same as in the ROM download
About the downgrading/unrooting - Yes I know it won't get rid of Knox, but at least I could switch on my WiFi with (one of) the previous 4.2.2 version (whatever one I had before). Even reverting to a working unrooted older ROM would be better than no WiFi at all (especially if I have to send the phone back to Samsung service for example)
As for the Sammobile details & my phone details, I was a little concerned with the differences shown between them
For example: I updated my Firmware yesterday (25th) & my phone shows Baseband version : I9505XXUDMH8
There's no 'UDMH8' shown in the latest rom on Sam's: only PDA (UEMK8) ,CSC (UEMK5) or Modem (UEMK8)
Although there IS a 'UEMK8' under my phones Build Number: JSS15J.I9505XXUEMK8
(& I always thought 'E' came after 'D' so if the latest sam rom came out on 22nd & I updated later than that .. why didn't I get the 'E' instead of the 'D' ?)
Also there is no 'UEMK5' shown under My Phone details (that I can find). Since there's no '5' in my phone details I was (once again) worried that using the wrong file would brick the phone
- Can I assume then that 'PDA' shown by Keis is the same as the last part of 'Build' ?? & as long as they are the same then the ROM's the same & is safe to use ??
- What do the CSC (UEMK5) and MODEM (UEMK8) numbers refer to then ?? & should I be worried if they are different than what (may be) on my phone
Oh - one last thing IS my GT-I9505 phone the same as a GT-I9501 LTE ??? - I thought there was a difference between a 'normal' and a 'LTE' phone (just not sure what)
Thanks again for taking the time in answering my (stupid) questions. For a newbie, this type of thing can be a bit nerve wracking.. I would hate to see a expensive phone being totally bricked
EDIT : just found out about *#1234#.. STILL not sure what these refer to (compared to Keis) but at least I now see a CSC, & there's a 'UEMK5' and 'UEMK8' there - what the hell is CP - boy is THIS confusing
AP: I9505XXUEMK8
CP: I9505XXUDMH8
CSC: I9505BTUEMK5
Hello!
I've been searching all around about this problem, but I've not found nothing useful. I hope you can help me.
I downgraded my phone flashing a Custom Rom. Unfortunately I did not backup EFS folder before doing that, because only after I got the problem, I saw that it should have been backed up. Now my phone has a fake IMEI (after I managed to fix it. At the beginning was null/null) and I have no carrier service. It says "Not registered on network" every time I try to make a call. Now I upgraded again to the latest firmware, but still fake IMEI and not registered on network. My question is: is there any possibility to restore my original IMEI? If not, can I get registered on network with a fake IMEI? My phone details are:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Model number: GT-I9500
Baseband Version: I9500ZCUCMH1
Kernel Version: 3.4.5-3943544 [email protected] #1
Build number: LRX22C.I9500XXUHOA7
I hope in your help!
Best regards,
mfo12002
IMEI is no longer stored in the EFS folder but in hidden partitions on the device. Restore your Android 4.2.2 stock ROM and see if your IMEI is restored using that, as your baseband didn't change from Android 4.2.2 though the rest of the firmware did.
I think also my baseband changed when I downgraded it for the first time. Baseband was unknown. Then after I upgraded again, it became the one I posted here. I've also searched in samsung-updates site for stock roms but the problem is I cannot find my region stock rom. Is there any problem if I download a stock rom of a different region?
Best regards,
mfo12002
Please post the following information:
1. Model Number
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing Phone Info from the Play Store and running it.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)
Downloading a ROM from a different region is not a good idea unless the phone is carrier unlocked, so by providing all this information in one post, even if you've already given some of it, will make it easier for me to help.
1. Model Number: GT-I9500
2. Android Version: 5.0.1
3. Firmware Version: AP=I9500XXUHOA7 ; CP=I9500ZCUCMH1 ; CSC=I9500SERHOA7
4. Service Provider: VODAFONE
5. Country: Albania
6. Is the phone rooted: Yes
7. Is a custom ROM installed: I think yes, but I don't know where to find the name.
Try this ROM instead. It's a later version of the one you're currently using. It's unbranded, so you should have no issues with carrier-added bloatware.
It still have the same problem. Not registered on network whenever I try to make a call and the notification "No service. Selected network not available" in the up-left corner.
Unless someone else on the forum has an idea I haven't thought of, have Samsung look at it. The IMEI in your S4 appears to be irretrievably gone.

Ok! I will wait a little bit more if someone else has also an idea of what to do and then, if the problem still persist, I will give it to Samsung.
Thank you anyway for your time!
download lastet rom then flash it or use kies emergeny recovery
@shahram Ali: See post #6 in this thread. I directed him to the latest ROM. He flashed it and had no luck.
Does anyone else have an idea on this problem, please?
see this Post I hope it Work

Hello.
I just recently got Galaxy S5 which appears to be only sold in Japan. There's some custom firmware installed on it which prevents Android to be updated. Phone doesn't have SIM locked, so any SIM card can be used.
Because the forum doesn't allow me to post link to a screenshot which shows firmware info I'll just write it down.

I'd like to completely wipe this firmware from the device, replace it with the latest Android version (6.0?) and root it. At first I'd like to know if it's even possible to do any kind of firmware changes on this model and what exactly do I need to perform the update/root.
Thanks.
Doesn't look like there is a 6.0 stock ROM for it, but you can upgrade to 5.0 here
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?r=&v=&q=SCL23
Flash with ODIN (Instructions all over the forum many times)
Okay, instructions on updato seems quite easy to follow so that shouldnt be a problem. Is there any recommended tool for root? I've found a lot of them and I really don't want to mess something up.
PS: How come there's no stock ROM for 6.0 even tho it's been mentioned in some articles that SCL23 model is also supported by Marshmallow update?
Anyone?
Okay, update to 5.0 passed without any issues. There are some default japanese applications on the phone which I cannot uninstall, is it possible to get rid of those somehow?
I have the same device Do you update succeeded or not
I installed Android 6.0.1 and the network was missing help someone Galaxy scl23 or give the firmware 4.4.2 or help to find the GSM network

Go to this link & download 4.4.2 then follow this tutorial.
Make sure to use key input from the options & use capital letters where needed. All being well you will have everything working again.
Make sure not to use any download manager for the download link. File gets about 100kbps so it'll take a few hours but you will get it.
I did the above then rooted the phone & flashed correct TWRP version to it then flashed 5.0 Lollipop SpaceX rom here. Everything working good & no loss of service on reset or reboot.
Hope it helps
