[Q] Need help/ couple questions on rooting GS5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, well first off Ii recently got the GS5 about a month ago and i must say i love it! Such a big change from my iPhone 5 and couldn't be happier. Now that i have decided I want to root there is way too much information to look through that it is overwhelming (so i apologize for the million times this question has been asked) and I am fairly new to rooting have had an iPhone for 3 years and was pretty capable with jailbreaking. Although, now getting to rooting I am pretty clueless beside the fact that my kernel which is the one from july 22 can not be rooted with towelroot. So now onto my questions:
How exactly can i go about getting the appropriate kernel to root with towelroot so i do not trip knox, even though I am not too sure what the purpose of knox is? And if i decided to not care about knox and go with custom roms what benefits would i get over staying stock rooted?
After rooting what are some key apps to download beside greenify and the xposed apps?
Finally not really much of a question but any other advice/tips would be greatly helpful and appreciated,.
Some info on my phone:
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-278781 July 22
Build number: G900A
Thanks.

Flashing An older stock kernel doesn't trip knox flag.
Furthermore, is a must if you want to root tour phone due to samsung to hace patched the latest kernel vulnerability.

Noob Here Needing Some Pro Advice

So my friend told me to root my new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon), but I am a complete noob and do not want to mess up my new phone.
He told me to be careful so I don't brick my device, and too read the forums. I have spent all day reading the forums and still don't know what I should do.
I saw a video explaining how to get root by going to towelroot.com, but this seems too easy to be true and safe.
Can I get root and not have to worry about bricking or tripping knox with towelroot?
If towelrool is ok to use then I will just go ahead with that, but If there is something better, could someone please point me in the right direction with what I need to download.
Thanks for any help and here is some of my device info if that helps...
Latest Software update: update_SM-N900V_MJE_to_NC4

what you should do....

For those of us who took the OTA, ... That app http://towelroot.com/ is the only exploit that provides root access for VZW N3.
yes. i am going to sound confusing now so hold on...Towel root is what it is... download. install. click.. your phone will reboot with root access ... it is a one click method... however, the bootloader and recovery is still locked on your device, and if you try to install CWM or TWRP, at this time you will trip KNOXX and void your warranty. Install SafeStrap instead from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53701934&postcount=1298.. then flash only one other file from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760380 thanks to the DEVs that have been working on this the whole shebang seems almost too simple, like you said... i agree.. i did everyrthing in that post as i installed Jasmine Rom. why? because the DEV is kickass, with the updates, i like the S5 themes, and its pretty simple to set up compared to what you've probably read up on..
and its really close to stock, which, of course, ive tried out a couple of other roms since then, and it still works (the phone)
Regarding KNoXX , your device will still read 0x0 , but it will say "custom" status .. you can fix this
if you root your phone and your status says "custom"..a flashable zip file here will fix that http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu you can find links to Safestrap, "unified files" and step by step instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760380 some more on what i mean by "custom" http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/2014-01-15-triangleaway-v3-26-t1494114 This does the same , maybe better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473938
Towel root will not "hard brick" your phone ,,, meaning your phone is basically an expensive paperweight... ii gave you thseds links because its what worked for me... however, you know whats best for you..

[Q] Questions about rooting

So I'm new to the whole android scene but I would like to root my phone. I have read up on rooting and whatnot but before going any further I decided to post a thread here with a couple of my questions. Here is some info about my phone in-case it was needed.
Model number - SM-G900V
Android Version - 4.4.4
Baseband version - G900VVRU1ANI2
Kernel Version - 3.4.0 Sun Sept 14
Now onto the questions
1) I looked at towel root and apparently it is one of the roots that doesn't trip KNOX but towelroot doesn't work on kernels after June 3 and mine just so happens to be after June 3 so would it be better to find a new rooting method that wouldn't trigger KNOX or try to flash a kernel prior to june third then use towelroot.
2) After I root will I need to maintain the root by installing updates to it or anything like that.
3) If towelroot isn't an option any more what is the best method to root without triggering KNOX?
That's all for now but I am sure more questions will arise as they are answered.
Thanks for the help

[Q] Installing 4.4.4 and keeping root and Knox 0x0

Hi everyone.
I received my Galaxy s4 yesterday the c9515L variant and it came with the 4.4.2 version of android. Using TowelRoot I rooted it and now is working fine , It constantly wants me to upgrade to the newest version (I guess 4.4.4) and I wonder if i'd loose the root and if the Knox would be activated once I try to do the root again.
Also I installed Xposed and some modules, did that trip the knox?
Also, Is there any ROM available that won't trip the knox to 0x01 and having more features thatn stock? I guess to install the Rom I'd need Recovery and thus tripping knox...
Sorry for asking so many questions but as you can see I'm new to the SGS4 comunity.
Thanks.
1. Do you mean GT-i9515L? coz C9515L doesn't exist...
2. The update isn't android 4.4.4 for sure.

First of all, my mistake, what I meant was I9515L.
And, If I currently have the 4.4.2 and it wants to make a system update in "your" opinion what would that be? 4.4.2.1?? No? I though so..... thats why I said 4.4.4.
Any information regarding my questions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Tale a look for example in Sammobile.com your updates and you will know something more of your device. It is likely that new models of Samsung using TW will update directly to android 5.0 Lollipop in early 2015 (but your device no maybe). Press "THANKS" button if the info helped you and Merry Xmas

Root Telus G900W8VLU1BOC1

I have looked everywhere and read everything and I'm more confused than ever. When I had an S3 it was pretty straightforward to root it, but this S5 and all the possibility for taking the wrong advice has me lost!
Can someone please let me know how I can successfully root my phone, or IF I can root it at all, especially without tripping knox. At this point I don't even care about knox, really, but it's pretty new and I'd rather not. BTW it came with lollipop 5.0 already installed. Firmware version G900W8VLU1BOC1

Doubts regarding rooting my out-of-warranty Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro

This thread was originally posted at https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/doubts-regarding-rooting-warranty-t3862751
Hi. I own a Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (2016) (SM-A910F/DS) with Android 8.0 (August security patch). It is now out of warranty. I want to root it. I do have prior experience in rooting my secondary Android phone but this phone is my daily driver and hence want some doubts cleared before attempting to root it using Odin. Following are the questions I need answers for:-
I am just going to root my phone to do some small scale customisation. I don't want to flash a custom or stock ROM. Some sources on the internet say that simply rooting the phone won't trip its KNOX flag while others say it will. What is the truth?
If indeed the KNOX flag gets tripped, will I ever be able to use Samsung Pay on my phone again?
If the KNOX flag doesn't trip, will Samsung Pay work on a rooted phone?
The firmware.mobi site hasn't yet updated the SM-A910F's firmware version to that of Android 8.0. My phone had received the Oreo update on 18th October, 2018. Can I still root my phone using whatever latest CF-Auto-Root package I get from there?
How to know if my phone is encrypted? I am confused about this because I haven't manually enabled any kind of encryption on my phone but since there is so much caution regarding rooting an encrypted phone, I don't want to take any chance.
So, these are the 5 questions which I want satisfactory answers for before I root my phone. A good explanation which will ward off my anxiety will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
