Hi guys
I have had my device for around 2 weeks. I don't personally believe in using screen guards and cases as I feel it hinders the user experience for which I've paid. Of course this means I need to be real careful! I do use a leather pouch to put my phone in while carrying it around but when I'm at home/work I use it naked...
So, having said that, as a reminder that my said choices are probably not the smartest, since yesterday I've dropped my phone three times. Once from the bathroom counter onto marble floor, once on wooden steps and it bounced down 3-4 of them, and once from a work desk onto wooden flooring. It was face down each time except the stairs when it bounced randomly before landing face down too. I died a little bit each time, but to my surprise my phone is completely ok! No scratches, no dents, no evidence of anything!
Since there is a lot of talk about the cracks appearing on their own, I just wanted to put this out there that things can be good too and this delicate device is actually pretty badass too. I will be using that pouch more though...
Some hope appearing through
Same as my friend: he was gesticulating and literally sent his z3 compact flying a few meters away. It fell face up (shouldn't really matter though, glass on both sides) and not even a scratch on it. I'm thinking there's some defective batch of glass panels.
I think there must be a bad batch, I had some "oh ****" moments too and I don't have broken glass.
Wow !
I don't own one but checked out Z3 C yesterday in Sony Store and due to anti theft tether wires dropped it 2 feet onto counter and nothing happened.
Nice photos in well lit, showroom, sharper than expected
in super auto, more detail in 20.7 no tweak, quik shots.
Get screen protectors or,Rhino Bumper, device shows completely except edges...

Says on the bottom that you can pre order it, but they will only produce it once they collect a total of 1400 such orders
Mine fell like 4 times from about a meter, not a single single scratch on it!

Oops my bad..Thanks!
Just bought jeans and found a pocket inside the pocket...perfect for keeping this phone hahaha
Its pretty cool, I dropped my phone another 3-4 times after that and no damage at all.
Once it was in a plane while landing and the phone fell down and slid down many rows till the front of the plane...when the steward gave it back, nothing!
This phone sturdy as hell!

Will everyone who's dropped their phone please post your year and week numbers? (e.g. 14W42) I'm trying to figure out which are the bad phones and which are the good ones. Thanks.

My son woke me up in the morning i bent over to look at the time knocking my HD2 all of 2 foot onto my laminate flooring..... screen has completely shattered!! this is one fragile device. Thankfully its insured through Vodafone I took it into the store today, but there doubtfull it can be fixed as it also chipped a piece of casing off as well. Now I'm a bit concerned they have no stock of the HD2 . I'll be gutted if thats the case.
Another reason why I wont be having kids...
Hi, I rang Vodafone today and I think they have a few replacement unitsleft, as they said they'd bee shipping me out one in the next few days... see my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611939
I hope its actually a HD2 they are shipping me and not another phone, fingers crossed!!
The direct replacement number they gave me was 08448540430 but I'm not sure if thats the right one for insurance but you can try it. Let me know how you get on
Sounds promising, thanks! If I get another i'll be wrapping it in cotton wool...

This is quite worrying. I mean sure dropping a phone would not be considered "normal use" but surely it should have been taken into account when designing the unit that phones do get dropped?
My Touch Pro has hit the deck on more than one occassion and it's unscathed!! I'm not the careless type either, I look after my tech but these things happen. It's worrying that a 2ft drop onto laminate could cause the screen to completely shatter.
Strange, dropped mine 6 feet onto a tile floor yesterday, i was like nooooooooooooo!, picked it up, still perfect, must have been lucky.

Your Touch Pro also happens to have a plastic screen. Sounds stupid comparing it to a thin glass screen, doesn't it? You make it sounds like it's the coming of the apocalypse because the HD2 is the first of its kind to have screen cracked when dropped. Take a look at iphones, droids, hero, etc...
People here freaked out because it's probably the first capacitive screen they've owned and continue using it like it's plastic like past HTC phones. Be extra careful. Period.
You were extremely fortunate, either that or I was extremely unfortunate. Ive been reading about the HD2 apparently theres alot of internal stress so although the screen is pretty much scratch proof its not so good on when struck. Very annoying as Ive been very protective of this phone
its actually pretty tough

I'm not saying your wrong, but things like "drops" should be taken into account at the design stage of a device such as a phone.
Your car keys are not meant to be dropped, but they'd survive wouldnt they? A mobile phone, by it's very nature, is prone to a drop or two over it's lifetime...
Your reply is very condescending and poorly thought out.
Seems like the phone is a bit like an egg. Squeeze an egg from the top and it won't break. Squeeze from the middle however...! So some drop the phone and it shocks the "middle" while others drop it and it shocks the "top". Some are lucky, some are not. Hey ho, them's the breaks! (No pun intended)

Seriously. I let it drop like every god damned day from the 24th to the 1rst, and it's still pristine. no scratches. I even let it drop from my height (6 feet 2) while drunk and playing with a girl who tried to snap it out of my hands, my heart skipped a beat, but when I took it up, again, no scratches. I was like, God exists!
But neverthless, I ordered three different cases. I don't want to run out of luck.
Dropped mine from 1,5 meter on a stone floor, nothing happend....
Thank god!
I've dropped my HD2 more than 6 times already (usually from holding height, so about 4 feet) sometimes with the leather case sometimes without. It is still in perfect condition. Come to think about it, it think it always landed on the ends so that may prove the egg theory. I do not have it insured so I'm not gonna go prove that theory just yet
It really must depend the way it lands, but trust me 2 foot (bedside cabinet height) was enough to write off my new love lol. Or maybe someone didnt build mine and the other poor bast*rds phones right... maybe forgot to do up a few screws haha, but anyway all I'll say is be damned careful and take out that insurance it really is worth it.

Condescending? Poorly thought out? Like how you're comparing dropping your brick of a phone with plastic screen to a thin one with GLASS screen? LOL. I'm not even going to vilify that judging by your lack of common sense and logic.
Of course it's taken into account during the construction of the phone. Some people enjoy the finer things in life, and that means sacrificing some structural integrity for form factor. I'm sure being as naive as you are, you probably didn't think about that. You see, Syphon, the HD2 is like a Ferrari F430 comparing to your Civic of a Touch Pro. It has carbon fiber exterior mated with 490 ponies strapped to the back, and like any other cars out there, it has been crash-tested. It's expensive because of lightweight material, because of exquisite engine design, and because of engineering. All this to ensure that the driver gets the most thrill and satisfaction out of driving it. These cars are well maintained and pampered due to the common sense that these owners have and to be able to understand that these toys are expensive and you'd take the utmost precaution to enjoy them. Now the majority of the people who own these cars are smart, successful people who take pride in taking care of their valuables...the kind of stuff that you lack.
Your Civic, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen...and are the stuff that junkyards are made of. They're cheap, easily to get thrown around and can be easily fixed. The fact of the matter is, your civic is nothing more but a rolling scrap metal that attracts door dings, bird poo, and a variety of things that happen to a car with as much of a presence as a piece of rock. In case you're still clueless, your touch pro should never be compared to an HD2. It's a giant slab of plastic that doubles as a door stop.
Now, I was going to stop but you made another grand of a post. In case you haven't noticed, most car key FOBs are PLASTIC. Yep. Quite a shocker huh? You know what else is a shocker? It doesn't have a screen. All it is, is a small PCB board with a round battery attached to it. Though I wouldnt expect you to understand that based on your inane inability to understand what plastic is and what glass is. I suggest having a running start and smashing your head through your car window so you'll know what the difference is.
....I should aso tell you to put on a helmet to protect that smart brain of yours.
A few days ago, I managed to drop my HD2. This would normally be a bad situation at the best of times, but this was from the top of my stairs at home. The phone fell through a gap in the bannisters and fell SCREEN DOWN on a stack of CAST IRON weights that were stacked on the floor below! I would've bet a lot of money that the phone would've been very badly damaged and was FULLY expecting to find the screen totally smashed with tiny splinters of glass everywhere. I trudged downstairs and, fearing the worst, picked the phone up and turned it over........ the screen wasn't smashed... it wasn't even cracked. I put the battery back in (which had been fired across the room from the impact) and turned it on... PERFECT. The case wasn't even marked or scratched.
Don't get me wrong, I count myself freakishly lucky, but I was truly staggered the phone survived that fall in the WORST of circumstances and didn't even get a scratch.
Just thought I'd share!
did u have any case on it ?
show a Pic of ur phone with its case
thanks
No case. Phone was naked.
astonishing..
I am amazed as well at the durability of the hd2. Dropped a 3 month old iphone about 15cm off the ground and shattered the screen. Annoying cause of the $ but was an iphone so didn't really concern me greatly. Someone got a used ipod as the phone part died. Anyway so when i was putting stuff in a cupboard with the hd2 in hand inside the stock leather pouch, i tipped the phone upside down by accident trying to keep the pile of junk in the cupboard from crashing down and out of the pouch she slid. This dropped almost 2 metres onto concrete tiled flooring on the top right corner of the phone in what i can describe as an almost vertical fall. I was thinking that the screen was long gone too but to my amazement she was still running fine with only a very slight warping of the hard plastic shell in the corner from where it hit. You have to be looking for it to see the warp that is how minute the damage is but i think i tempted fate once too much also. But hey... a really good phone that has survived a bit already. The only downfall so far is it turns on easily when in your pocket on the plane.
it is tough. accidentally dropped mine from the dressing table to the hard woord floor. did not find a scratch
you guys are lucky, back in february when I'd only had mine for 5 days I dropped it taking it from my pocket, just over a metre, shattered the whole screen to pieces, still used it for a week or so before the touchscreen failed to, god bless insurance!
i felt it 4 or 5 times on the floor witbout one scratch, to be honest only few ones barely visible on the battery cover like 1 or 2 mm long. probably lucky too.
now ... i use my fixed on my motorcycle (gps), went for a 7 days trip with you can guess, a lot of vibrations and sun heat. nothing
I read on here somewhere that the screens most likely to break if the first contact between the phone and the floor is the bottom corner near the hardware buttons because of the gap for the buttons which makes sense........
I would have just sat at the top of my stairs crying if I was the OP.....
Lucky lucky lucky.....
The center of the screen is the place for it to be hit. It's the strongest part of the display, the further out from the center you go, i.e. the edges, the weaker the display gets.
Try smashing a window hitting it in the center with a bat, it will just bounce right back at you with considerable force, hit the corners and you'll get a lot less recoil and you have a much higher chance of shattering the glass. Of course this is just a very crude example of what I mean.
id say you just got lucky
I wish the crap LCD panels HTC use for the HD2 were tough. I have had to return mine twice since I got the phone in November due to developing white patches on the display.
Strange that my 3 year old 2G iPhone doesn't have the same issue.....

And I am sure that someone with an iPhone is saying the same about HTC phones. It swings in roundabouts, no manufacturing process is perfect.

I must know about twenty people with iPhones and can't think of one who has had a single hardware issues with them. A couple of them dropped their's which resulted in cracked screens but that applies to any device with capacitive displays. I'm not an iPhone fanboy here, I love my HD2. But despite Crapple being **** when it comes to their obsessive control of what the end user can do (which renders their phones unusable without a jailbreak in my view), they are renowned for the quality of their hardware and for good reason.
I just find it annoying that I have had to return my Leo twice for exactly the same issue without treating it any different to my numerous other phones, and I have no doubt the same thing will happen again within 3-5 months. This points to shoddy materials.
Wish I could say the same for my HD2. Slipped out of my hand the other night and onto concrete from about 4 and a half foot up. Screen is cracked all over, gutted. I've dropped it before but its just scuffed the rubberised edges, made a right meal of it this time.

It doesn't stop the phone being usable, but why should I put up with a defective screen on a phone that costs this much?
Hi. So story goes like this.
While going to biking I was going to put my Defender case on my HD2, but tried it and found out that these invisible shields and this cheap one i got make it that much bigger otterbox defender dont fit. so I left defender in.
When going out of the door one hand on bike and one with HD2 with sportypal finding satellites, tried to close the door and doing that dropped my precious HD2 to concrete floor from around 1.5m or 5feet. I saw it dropping and I was like NOOOOOO, but my music didnt stop playing from my bluetooth headset so I knew atleast it didnt break fully.
Well what do you expect happened to HD2 with gorgeous 4.3" glass display..
.
.
.
Pictures tell everything:
Better quality pics: HERE
Well nothing really happened, except little dent on the corner, it looks worse in pictures. I was so sure that I broke my precious HD2's screen but no.
You might notice that theres no invisible shield/other plastic wrap around, thats because I took those off so I can use my otterbox defender again!
Earlier, 2months ago defender case saved my HD2 from mud where it fell when I stumbled in darkness using HD2 as my flashlight
Anyone else had these lucky or not so lucky moments with your HD2? Post your stories and pictures if any.
Thanks.
Lucky git, I've kicked mine a few times as when I drop it I try to stop it hitting the floor so stick my foot out, most of the time it lands on my foot then falls on the floor but a few times Iv'e kicked it a good 4/5 foot
Feel lucky this is what I got when I dropped mine from 3 feet.
my HD2 survived a 1.20m flight on stone - even the battery-cap jumped away - but the display and the handy was without any problem - puuuuuuh
drop...
I had my hd2 about 3 days and a friend was holding it while i took off my motorbike helmet. she dropped it about 1 meter and all it did was ding the side...
must admit i was bricking it..
Mine has fallen from the top of the toilet onto the floor... My wife came running in when she heard me scream, she thought I'd has an accident. LOL
Incidentally zero damage.....
Very lucky!
I think I would spontaneously combust if I dropped mine...
Oh I had dropped that one several times and not once did it break. Most of the times it fell it landed on it's back or side. The one that did it in was a face shot (lol), It dropped and landed face down for the most part. It landed on the bottom right corner first blowing out the bottom then slapped down all the way killing the upper half. I used to keep it in that gell case and had Invisishield on it as well before. For some reason I stopped using the gell case and the Invisishield started to peel in one corner, so it came off as well. I believe with the use of the Invisishield alone it would have helped in keeping the phone from breaking. That stuff rocks.
There is always that feeling when you get a shiny new phone. You know that you're going to drop it at least once.
The first time I dropped mine from 3 feet ish, it landed on the screen. But as I tried to grab it from falling I just ended up propelling it towards the floor. Then I got that sinking feeling as I went to pick it up. Just as I turned it over I expected the screen to be smashed (it didn't land on a flat surface) but nothing. Just a small scratch on the screen protector.
Also as someone mentioned before, I've done the whole "use your foot to stop it falling but end up kicking it further thing" still in perfect condition. Awesome phone.
Mine has survived a 30 km/h swipe
i was getting to sleep, it was dark and i forgot that my HD2 was lying on bed
when i was sweeping my bed with a pillow, i felt that i've just swiped a heavy metal thing on the ceramic floor , n i heard a glass-metal sound :O
.
.
brightened the light, and it was my HD2 without even a minor scratch
the glass-metalic sound was from the back cover being popped out
I droped ine once in a carpeted room...I went to walk out and it slipped out my hand and flew out... the sound of it hidden the wood under the carpet was enought to scare the **** out of me... I didnt scream...I was breathless the moment it left my fingers..
The other day my sister bought a new phone and went to me to show me and so i can open it up for her... Once she picked it up for the first time, she dropped it. You would think she dove for it. Nope she screamed and walked away... So i laughed and gave it to her.

I've just sent my device to my insurer this afternoon, dropped from taking out of pocket and having butter fingers, this is the second replacement screen I'll be getting, looked the same as yours although the ENTIRE glass front was shattered into what was a rather cool looking honeycomb effect haha, and the row of buttons at the bottom were dying to fall off too, it's been 4 hours and I miss my device already, using a nokia 6300 at the minute!!!
My replacement was one dayed to my house. It would also appear to brand new and not a remaned unit. New one came with a new memory card, charger, the whole box. I also kept my 16 gig card, battery, and rear cover from the broken one, lol.
I have the amazing wallet-phone! (there's thread on here about it) My HD2 jammed into a faux-leather case, with space for cards and money as well. I've thrown my phone place to place and never had a problem thanks to the protective cushion. It might be bulky but the trade-off is I have all my things together, the phone's protected, and when I take my 11-month phone out it looks shiny and new. So there's an alternative for people with the same butter-fingers I have

ouch :/ haven't seen that bad crack before, most of em have only screen kind of smashed. I cancelled my full insurance during summer because I thought I can keep it nicely have had luck with these two incidents.
No one was near me when dropped mine, someone probably would have thought Im crazy or something when dropped it and yelled fooock..
Had a incident myself posted the info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812370
but the end result is this
Im still crying inside
Edit : im gonna now go with the idea smeddy has just tring to find your post now re the case wallet
The first time I dropped mine was on my desk at work. It hit the table 2 twice very fast. I almost dropped it twice in my kitchen on solid hone But I have quick hands and I caught it just in time. The only time I really dropped it was on a carpet from a relatively small height. Those cracked screens look horrible, I hope I never have to see something like that ever again. When I bought it, it didn't have the original case, but another one. I try to keep it in that case most of the time. My problem is not butter fingers, I am not always careful when holding things
My OtterBox Defender has saved mine from 2 drops. Not a bit of damage.
I know the invisible shield type things are popular, but they don't do a damn thing if you really drop your phone.
My wife dropped her HD2 into a bucket of water once. The power was on and she was even on a phone call when it happened. Fortunatly she retreived it quickly and had the Otterbox Defender case on. After removing the battery and making certain it was throughly dry it is working fine to this day!
seeing all these broken HD2's upsets me, though i dropped mine at the bus stop as i was getting it out of my pocket, and the screen smashed at the top left, it still works perfectly fine though.
the next day, i did it again, but as i was walking and the phone went flying forward into a curb and smashed the camera and made the top right of the screen go black!
i've got insurance, but the phone is quite battered, with scuffs everywhere, so i dont want to claim in case they just repair it and give me back my scuffed phone!
and ive never claimed insurance before haha, i feel a bit silly claiming.
i cant post photos because i lurk instead of posting and im yet to be verified ;(
It fell out of my pocket while biking.
Chipped the metal case
Has anyone else dropped their phone (I mean serious drops)?
Fortunately not, my friend did drop his iPhone 4 off a bridge whilst taking a photo. A sharp gust of wind blew it out of his hand.
I was laughing for about 2 days.
Yup, dropped mine a couple of weeks ago. Bit of a chip on the top right corner of the case by the screen and a bit of a scuff on the bottom right corner of the sim cover.
Was dropped from quite a height onto a hard pavement, so I'm pleased it didn't come off a lot worse!
Dropped mine too. I was busy attaching it to the windscreen for use as satnav, and my wife called me to help get our son into his car seat (after all this time she STILL can't do it...) I went to assist, but the phone wasn't securely fixed to the windscreen... and, well, you guessed it.
Gutted.
Mine has dropped twice from 50cm ~1.5ft. Bad positioning on the nightstand + groggy first time, and a trip of the lady on the charging cable (phone resting on aforementioned nightstand)..
...two slight chips on the top left corner metal. I'm all about the survivor look, being a Fallout fan, I hate those unwieldy black rubber cases, but it pains me to know that those two little chips are there, right out of sight, mocking me for failing to take good care of my DHD.
And that coming from the guy who used a smashed iPhone 2g for the past 2 years. Cracked yet (surprisingly) fully operational screen, more dents in the metal backplate than you can shake a stick at.
Oh well.
Dropped mine from about chest height onto laminated floor while trying to open a door while carrying shopping, unfortunately it did do something to the internal hardware.
Volume keys stopped working, wi-fi would not turn on and fm radio would not turn on. Case had no visible damage so sent back to HTC under waranty, 20 days later got my phone and its working flawlessly.
dropped mine so many times now but i'm lucky and it just hasnt scratched it
can we have some pictures please
this is exactly the reason I made sure I ordered and received my otterbox commuter series case BEFORE I bought my telus desire hd
only had mine for about a week or so but already dropped it a few times, battle wounds... reminds me of my silver back iphone 1 after a few month, just adds character as far as im concerned.
I dropped mine down a flight of steps on to tiles, man that thing can bounce. It only got the smallest scratch on the top edge where i can see silver but it bugs me every time I look at it but it could have been so much worse without my barely there case or if the screen shattered. If only they sold nail polish in a DHD brown to use as repair paint ...

How is that Otterbox treating you? Any idea if Otterbox defender is any good? Is commuter better?

I don't know about the defender but I ordered a commuter at the same time I ordered my phone and love it. I had one for my iPhone 4. I've not dropped this phone yet *touch wood* but it's a great case and if nothing else it makes the back more even so the camera is less likely to get scratched.

Does it give you the confidence that if you drop it from a considerable height it won't get badly damaged, say 2 feet on a wooden floor?
No drops here (yet), but i remember when i got my first phone. It was 12 years ago, and I, Mini Bazooka, was only 12 years old. I was rocking a brand new Panasonic GD-450. Pretty small back then, but it's about the size of a small grizzly.
I dropped it four floors down, and it landed on the concrete floor. The battery fell off. Nothing more.. Ahh, the good ol' days when a phone was a phone, and not a control center for launching nuclear weapons and baking cookies.

Mine got knocked off a table and fell at least 3 feet onto tile floor and nothing happened. I feel a lot more confident holding the phone and I don't have to worry so much about holding a super thin phone and not letting it drop. The case makes it feel perfect in the hand.

Must be a Baking cookie app, nuclear weapons is easy thou....
Anyway droped mine a few times my case looks after her thou, she is still like new.
The first time you drop it is always the worst! After that it doesn't hurt so much ;-)
Dropped mine the first time whilst in the toilet. Just managed to deflect it from going down the pan! It landed on the floor luckily and has a marked corner now...
I would buy a case but I really don't like them at all.
I think I had my DHD for about a week before I dropped it, and of course straight into asphalt. It got some nasty scratchmarks on the bottom / bottom left corner. I felt parts of my soul (and wallet) die that day ;(
Bought a gel case the day after, just to prevent further damaging of the DHD case.

Lol your hand must have been shaking really hard.... Random excercise at 2am anyone?
I'm thinking of buying a GS2 and what scares me the most are the threads by people who cracked the screen.
All my phones fall, from the first siemens (back in the '90) to my my last htc hero.
At least once a month it makes a flight off the sofa, off the table, on the cement ... at most the back cover comes off, the battery flies away and the body (not the display) reports some scratches.
My hero also shows signs of bites and scratches by a cat, but nothing more!
(try to control a cat a let me know ...)
I read the last post of a poor guy whose s2 fell to less than one meter on the gravel and the display cracked!
But is it really so fragile?!
Is there someone whose s2 has been dropped from a reasonable height and the screen survived ?

You have a 4.3 inch screen, 8mm phone, ofcourse it's fragile. All of them are. Like ^ said, buy a nice case, and you'll have some protection against small falls.
If you cannot afford the Case Mate Tough Case , then Amazon has some reasonably cheap gel cases , do not buy a silicone case as they attract dirt/dust like a magnet
OP, I dropped mine from 1 meter height a number of times, but always on wooden or carpeted floor. Never dropped on concrete or gravel. But I bet most modern smart phones with large touchscreens will crack if dropped on hard surface landing on the screen or even not on the screen but at a proper angle like someone already mentioned.
Either buy a good case, or buy a tough weather and impact proof phone.
dropped mine 100 times.....apart from a few cosmetic scratches, been fine

I dropped mine the first day from about 1.7 meters/5.6 feet(?) (I guess that's the height my ear is at) on the pavement. It's fine, just scratches and scuffs on the corners and the back, but nothing bad.
Bought the CaseMate Tough Case though, just to be sure.
PS. Damn cats! mine keeps battling my remote, it lights up as he touches it... chews through the lcd screens
I have just a full-body screen protector on mine and have dropped it a couple of times and its been fine. What part of the phone that hits the ground first is going to make a big difference too. If it hits the ground vertically on a corner than yes, you're more likely to have the screen crack. A couple of the reported cracks were from stress where the screen was in someones pocket and either pressed against something or sat on. Also, consider how many are out there now and the cracked screen reports are less than a dozen. I was afraid of it when I first got it but less so now.

Having come from Nokia phones and Htc phones.. this is as light as a feather and just slipped through my hands quiet a few times.. but you get used to it..
Once it dropped of the table but no harm done. yes it is very light and I would suggest getting it a case or something to make it feel more in the HAnds although I never used cases on any of my phones leave alone screen protectors.
But yeah you get used to it after a while so go GET one
i threw mine, it still works. Buy a big leather case. Top tip of the day, it saves you ££££'s
You guys just need to be more careful with your phones.

600€ for the phone so the price of the case would not be a problem.
A must have accessory (for my use) is an active car holder; one you put the phone in without having to plug cables, to put the phone out from the case, etc. ( like the original samsung one )
Anyway, thanks to everybody.
At the end I think I'll go for the phone, some "invisible skin" protector and an insurance.

I am really a bit confused about this entire thread. Maybe I just haven't seen the flood of threads complaining about cracked screens, but the only ones I've seen even remotely related are:
1) Some dude dropped a dumb bell on his phone. You be the judge of whether or not that is indicative of the screen's robustness.
2) Some dude dropped his phone into the toilet for a swim with some poo and water. And, it still survived.
So, I guess if you want a phone that is impervious to heavy metal weights being dropped directly on it, then yes, I would be wary of this phone. The good news is, if you're the type to possibly have your mobile phone go for a **** swim every once in a while, you're in luck.
All joking aside, get a decent case for it, screen protectors, and the phone is as well built as any other well built phone. Plus, the phone in its "naked state" is a bit too thin for me anyway.
I dropped mine from like 1,5M on solid stone. Landed on a corner which now has a little dent other then that there is nothing to see...
I was actually surprised it survived i have seen phones die from less.
1m height to solid stone
Dropped mine from 1m onto solid stone floor. Landed flat on the screen side. 2 or 3 fix points on backcover opened. Other than that, not even a scratch. Back cover was also ok.
I have read these unfortunate threads before and I admit I was scarred to to pick it up lol.

XDA is not the only place in the world talking about phones ... anyway, am I free to be scared and ask or not? ;-)

dropped mine 2 days ago ad the screen is chipped and cracked, now on the lookout for a new piece of glass
