Hi,
Could anyone explain why we don't yet have an AOSP ROM for the Note?
I'm looking forward to getting rid of TouchWiz and I'm curious what the challenges are that prevent developers from just compiling the AOSP code to run on the Note 4.
I'm coming from a lot of Nexus devices so I'm not familiar with the roadblocks in developing ROMs for Samsung devices.
You know only samsung can make feature for s pen and other stuff. If this is a normal phone, that would be easy to make a AOSP rom lollipop like my old galaxy tab 10.1 with 3 year old.
But, this is note with only samsung can create stuff for us. So keep calm and wait

I'm not particularly interested in using the S-Pen or all the other Samsung stuff, I just want a replacement for my Nexus 4 that has better specs. All that other stuff can come later or not at all really.
Thanks Batfink33 for the good news, really looking forward to some AOSP or CM goodness

Hey guys.
There is a very good chance I will be getting a note 3 this week. Im a pretty avid android user, currently own a Galaxy Nexus, TF700, OUYA, Nook Color, 2x Moto Droids, and a few other android devices. Im fairly familiar with android, and love the OS. The biggest issue I have had is the lack of multitasking, and this is whey I am really excited for the note 3. I typically own an android devices for about 1 hour, and then have it rooted and unlocked. I know I have a tendancy to do this with all my devices, but I dont want to get to far ahead of myself.
So in short, what suggestions do you guys have? What ROMs seem to be running the best? Will I be missing out on the "stock" experience by throwing a ROM on it? Any really cool new features that I might not know? Please, tell me what I have to look forward to.

There are tons of features in my opinion that you can only get on a Galaxy Note device. I have decided to stick with touchwiz for the multiwindow app, the aircommand and the S-planner calendar as well as their weather widget. I use the stylus all the time and that is why I believe the note is so radical different than it's competition.
I also root the phone ASAP and stick with an "improved" touchwiz version since Samsung and Verizon really limit this great device from its full potential.
Here are some good youtube videos that you can watch that show you some of the awesome features that come with the phone.

These videos pretty much give you all the features this phone has. With the new roms coming out you will get even more features.
Good luck and if you liked what I wrote hit the thanks button for me.

Now do the ROMs that are currently available still maintain touchwiz? I really want to keep the multiwindow and s-pen features, just not all the bloatware, and get some of the tweaks that roms offer
Yeah if the rom is touchwiz based you should keep all these great features. I only use touch wiz because I think what is the point of buying a phone with the stylus and if I then ROM it and turn it into an android phone like any other. But that is just my opinion.

Hello there. I recently acquired a Samung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. I love the tablet but there has been no ROM development as of yet. In my understanding, this is due to the fact that the 8.4 version is much more popular and shares architecture (Snapdragon) with many other devices making it easier to develop for. In looking at the 10.1 specifications, it seemed like the Nexus 10 and Tab Pro 10.1 had many similarities (including Samsung manufacture and Exynos 5 chip). So, my question is whether or not a Nexus 10 ROM could be easily ported to the Tab Pro 10.1? I am not a developer, so forgive my ignorance and naivete if this is a ridiculous question.
If they are very alike it is a bit easier. But you might be better of building from source.

Have you seen this guide? Samsung has that um... unique TW UI so trying to port AOSP based Nexus 10 roms will almost certainly fail (unless there's already CM or AOSP for the Tab but based on what you said that doesn't seem to be the case). Also the Nexus 10 has the Exynos 5 Dual while the Tab uses the Octa. Check out the Exynos Wikipedia page and try a TW based ROM from something else with the Octa but it still seems like a bit of a long shot too me. Good luck.
Also, mrgnex is right that building from source is probably better. But if it's not already supported by CM or AOSP you're out of luck. Samsung has opensourced the code but it seems kind of silly to build a TW ROM from source since most of the custom TW ROMs are just baked from the stock ROM.
As I said, I am not a developer. Thanks for your replies.

But you can become one.

We could REALLY use an AOSP ROM over here on the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) -P600/WiFi Only tablet.
I know there's someone out there who is interested in starting a new project as the first developer to produce an AOSP ROM for this kick ass device:fingers-crossed:
...hopefully!
So, who here is willing to donate? I know I DEFINITELY am!
Maybe we'd even be lucky enough to get an INCREDIBLE developer like we did for our TouchWiz HYPERDRIVE(sbreen94) <---- thanks for that!!!
Perhaps even @blindndumb or @albinoman887 would be interested!!?
IF YOU'RE WILLING TO DONATE FOR AN AOSP ROM, LET IT BE KNOWN!!!
and for P601
Correct me If I'm wrong, but Exynos 5 (P600) is not really supported by AOSP roms, so only Snapdragon variants like the P605 are likely to be compatible with any AOSP rom. It's likely better to purchase a P605 and run CM11, than wait for an Exynos 5 AOSP build.
Also, why would you want to remove the S-Pen features from a Tablet, who's main selling point is the S-Pen?
I won't be complaining if it happens but personally I can't really see any real benefits to having an ASOP Rom on this device at this point in time.
I prefer ASOP on the original note n7000 as you can get the latest Android OS that hasn't been released officially for that device. Also the older hardware is lacking and slow under the TW interface so you get big performance boost by having a lighter ROM.
This tablet has plenty of grunt and currently the latest Android OS so yeh not much point having ASOP imo.
With Android L coming out that might make a port more worthwhile
I would be happily willing to donate if someone prepares a P601 version.
I don't think Samsung releases binaries for the Exynos, so that's going good to add a layer of difficulty.
Plus with a device like this, you're going to lose a lot of functionality like all the spen stuff, multiwindows, floating Windows, ir transmitter, etc...
Well as we all know our tabs 4s have been. Left out in the cold, without many of the roms available even on the prehistoric devices.
I suggest as tab 4 users, let us unite and collaborate on building, testing and modifying at least one stock android room (cm11 or cm12 style, in other words, no touchwiz) or we work on modifying/porting a nice touchwiz rom to our beautiful devices.
I'm no pro or developer but have decent knowledge on roms and would love to hear feedback on my suggestion from the tab 4 community
I would try but I don't have the time or the tools on my computer to even try this. Anyone on this forum want to take a stab at this?

ya. there doesnt seem to be much interest in this... I'll try look into it more myself and see what I can do
I've seen a couple of ROMs like these for the Snapdragon powered Note 3 with a lot of S6 apps ported to their ROM. Is any such ROM in development for our Exynos Powered Note 3? For now I'm running Stock Lollipop with some S6 apps like Music, Smart Manager, TW Launcher etc, but It'd be great to have a completely new ROM built with S6 features and such. The phone app looks a lot better and resembles Vanilla android. If anyone is willing to try, I'll help you with the testing part.
Thank you
We got so less developers for note 3 n900 :/
We can't get s6 roms so much early maybe we have to wait for another 5-6 months

So true. but would we ever see a S6 ROM port soon? Even though we have a few devs, they've done some great work like giving us CM12 and such. Hopefully we'll see this too
Need it man....
