believe I have deleted partitions on nook color
First, thank you so much for all the work you and other do.. Here is my problem. My nook color will not boot (black screen) . I believe I have inadvertently mounted and deleted my emmc partitions using an sd partitioning tool. I have a bootable cwm card I use to at least boot the nook (color). I have tried to use cwm to format emmc, and then used all of your repair tools to attempt to recreate and repair my partitions, but to no avail. Reading your posts, I have come to the conclusion that I have somehow deleted/corrupted the all important third partition, because I attempt to repair partition 2, and your tool simply throws error and aborts. Everything I have tried so far has only been done through cwm off sd card, I have not tried to push anything through adb, as I don't have it at this time, but I wanted to know if this would be your suggestion before I went further. As many have said before, (but you have proven wrong) I have actually bricked this nook at this point. Other possibly pertinent info: cwm version 3.0.2.8 off sd card. When trying to format emmc using cwm, process reports done but then freezes required hard restart. I have tried many different things from you wonderful devs, but without getting my part 3 back, I am at a loss!! thanks so much for what you do, and your time!

What does it do after the 145678 repair and you try to boot without the SD inserted?

If it won't turn on after flashing that zip that means you must have destroyed your partition table with that software. That is fixable, but not easily and not with any tools I have made. You must learn how to operate fdisk and repair it manually. You can make a bootable TWRP SD which has a terminal emulator program that lets you run fdisk to see what you have there. Then possibly you could reconstruct the partition table. But you have to know what you are doing.

Thank you so much for your response, sorry my response was so slow, I have a child now in the hospital. I have downloaded your twrp 2.1.8 bootable from a different thread. Is this the tool I will need? Would I simply copy your exe to my cwm disk and run it from there? I am relatively computer literate and somewhat comfortable using partition tools, but of course I will need specific instructions, your recommendations on partition size, etc. Once again, THANK YOU for your time, even bothering to assist me with this is GREATLY appreciated!

If you search the NC forums the partition sizes are listed. I am not sure where it is. And I think that version of TWRP has a terminal, but you may need a newer one.

I am so sorry for the delay in a response, I have had a lot on my plate lately, and not been able to devote much time to my little nook. Her is where I stand : booting from twrp (with terminal as you say) fdisk 1.3.1 installed on sdcard and opening in terminal. I type fdisk, and it will pull up the usage table. Here is where I run into trouble......... I type # fdisk -l to try and view existing tables, it only shows my sd card... I have tried every combination of command symbols I can think of. (#, ~, $, ~$, etc...) I thought I had a decent grasp of fdisk, but apparently not. Brother, if you can get me through this, you have a donation coming your way!! Not sure how to proceed, or if I even have necessary software versions. Thanks!!

Can't Boot, Recover, CM FAIL. ModProbe chdir Failure. CWM Recovery Not Working.

I'm using a recently nightly build of CM7.
I really love how I have it set-up, but if I don't have anyway to ever back it up my results are effortless.
How can I fix this situation without removal of the system. anyone, please?
First of all, have you done a nandroid backup in CWM? If so you can definitely recover.
Second it looks like your boot file is corrupted, always sending you to recover rather than a normal boot. What boot setup are you using?

You have installed your ROM to SD. There is no CWM recovery on SD installs. You cannot do a nandroid backup with the SD recovery.
See my post here for an explanation of the difference between emmc installs and SD installs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258
However, there is a way to back it up. Keep reading further down in my post.
thank you.
but how do i get access to uAltRam and uAltImg.
Multi SD Mount APP isn't working.
R/W permission difficulties in root explorer..
Using the 4202012 nightly build..

this shouldn't be too hard, don't let it drive me crazy

Hmm.. somehow I got it doing that. I of course tried that before and only the two partitions were loading. This time I was messing with it and clicking the multi sd mount widget and somehow the boot drive came up and I transferred the files on there.
So now I can do a nandroid backup as usual? Or sense it's an (Alt) instead of a recovery thing must it be different?
I'll try some things in the mean time..
Okay, so I have to boot into recovery and choose alternative and do it manually.
Can't do it with Rom Manager/Rom Tool Kit. Tried and it did the same error as in the OP.
Off to try now.
This is really strange though.
I've been messing with Nooks for a while and always used rom manager and the recovery console just fine.. but i've always ever done dual sd boots. This is my first time really doing a single one.
I'm in the boot menu (encore u-boot menu by j4mm3r), 1.2 port + extras.
It's been at
'Booting. One Moment'..." for at least a minute. Assuming it's frozen itself..
edit: Yeah, the Alt files didn't work.. I reset and pressed the N button, went to alternate and SD card. Nothing.
Reset it and it works as usual, but still no ability to backup..

Do not use ROM Manager with the verygreen SD installation. It does not work. Use the boot menu to boot into the alternate. Hold the n key while booting. Choose sd, alt.
Edit: you said two partitions showed up. Did you physically take the card out and insert into a card reader in your PC? It should see just one drive. Make sure those two files are there or it will hang when you choose it in the boot menu. I suspect you put the files on emmc boot since you used that strange program to do it.

No,
it's something with the multi mount sd app widget.
I hook mini usb to usb.
then hit the widget.
and JUST the boot partition comes up.
It says something about disk F: is not formatted correctly as well.
Just plugging it in without the multi mount app the outward sd card partition and the nook color come up, just those two.
And can't believe I didn't think to take the mini SD out and use an adapter. I'll try it again with that.
You're right I did mess something up with my EMMC.
Before I had it on a stock nook.
Now it goes to the cyanomod thing.
I took the miniSD card out, plugged it in for power and it turned on.
Went to that, had a bunch of force closed issues nothing worked, dry and empty, etc.
Any suggestions?
I'm gonna check out the miniSD card partitions now and try to get something going with that.

There are many threads here that will tell you how to restore stock to emmc. Search for them.
But to get the SD working, do what I said. And I would suggest getting rid of that mount program so you don't mess it up again.
Edit: The problem with those mount programs is, if you mount the wrong partition, windows can only read fat partitions and will ask you to format. System and data are ext4 which windows cannot read.

Thanks a bunch.
In ubuntu once the sd card is inserted all 4 partititions automatically came up so I was able to copy and paste the Alt images.
Am backing up right now
And yeah getting the emmc back to stop np.
One thing i'm confused about.. you're saying one cannot update rom's if booting from an SD card?
also, i assume all in eed to do to make a back-up on my hard drive or usb (so its not just inclusive to the minisd), i can just root browser into mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup and and create a zip of the 2012.5.5.etc.etc.etc. made folder and trnasfer it onto external device? If needed all I would need to do is a transfer back?

Yes you can update the ROM. Just not with CWM. You place the update-...zip in the boot partition of the SD and then using the boot menu (hold n during boot) select SD and recovery. The script in the boot partition will install the ROM for you. You need to read the first post in the agnostic image thread. It tells you all this.
On the second question, you can do it that way, but the files are already compressed there so just copy the folder to your PC to archive them.
is it okay to just boot into alternative (power + vol up/down) instead of going through the manual booting with the 'N' on start-up?

Black screen of death

I used ManualNooter for my nook. As I recently installed a bunch of apps and ebooks, I thought I should back up my device. I went to Rom Manager for back up which then brought me to CWM when it was done to reboot. When I reboot it was stuck in boot loop. I turned the nook, then back on and whenever i reboot i get black screen of death. I can boot to CWM by holding all three buttons down. I tried wiping data, factory reset, reinstalling nooter zip, yet every time I reboot, I get black screen of death. Can someone help me figure out how to fix this? Thx.

My computer no longer recognizes the Nook (I have an HP laptop running Windows 8). Prior to the black screen, the computer did detect the nook when plugged in with the USB cable. How can I now copy the zip file to flash through CWM recovery? I have version 3.2.0.1 installed? I don't understand why trying to make a back-up file through the ROM manager would cause such failure? Thanks for your help.
EDIT: Should I now be trying the verygreen method via SD card? Apologies for the panic.

Make a bootable CWM card as described in my item A10. Then copy the 1.4.3 rom zip downloaded from A15 to the card. Put the card in the Nook, boot to CWM and flash the ROM zip.
Sometimes files get corrupted when writing them to the Nook. Obviously that is what happened with ROM Manager.

What size SD card do I need? I tried copying the 1.4.3 rom zip (unzipped, used 7 zip to extract the other files) onto a 8 GB sandisc and a 16GB and both tell me the card does not have enough space. I've used Win32diskimager-v.07 (the link from manual nooter no longer works), I copied the CWM-5.5.04 image to the SD card. I had no trouble copying manual nooter onto the 8gb sandisc. I used a SD formatter program to format and wipe the disk before using it for this. Thanks.

I guess I should modify my instructions. The 1.4.3 zip is so large that you need to use the 6.0.1.2 version of the bootable CWM SD. It has a little more room for the zip. It does not matter which size card you start out with.

I'm back in business! It worked - whew! I had trouble with the 1.4.3 zip, so I used DizzyDen's 1.4.1. I was stuck in boot loop the first time I rebooted, then used the 5-6-7 partition fix zip, reinstalled the 1.4.1 zip and it worked like a charm. I also used the newer version of CWM you advised which was smaller in size, it's all on the 16gb SD card with no issue.
One last question, now that the stock rom is in order, am I safe to flash CM10? I'd prefer not to use manualnooter again as you said in a previous post, CM10 is leaps and bounds above nooter. If you think it's okay to flash, do I have to do the 8 count reset to fully wipe?
Many, many thanks for your clear, detailed instruction and patience!

When I was last working on this, I had my external hard drive plugged into the computer via the usb port. I was backing up the files that were on my micro sd card, I had a 16gb in my droid bionic, I swapped it with the 8 gb I had in the nook when I couldn't get the older version of CWM on the card. Now when I plug in my external hard drive, all I see are the win32 imaging files on it. I take it, this process formats over everything plugged into a usb port? I've lost all my kids photos and videos, I can cry I'm so mad at myself for letting this happen. I've tried the two laptops we have and I get the same list of files in the folders. I guess this is one of those mistakes you only make once.
Oh no! Yes, burning a card writes over everything. There are some utilities that may let you rescue your old files, but maybe not. I would set it aside till you find out. I think the free MiniTool Partition Wizard has some paid companion products that may help.
Edit: just reread your post. It does not write over everything plugged into the USB. You just made a mistake when you burned once and selected the external drive letter. The same solution applies. Find a disk partition repair utility.

I finally found the time to do this. I flashed the 567 zip, then went to the CM10 download page for the 414 nightly encore zip. I received two errors:

What does this mean?

Am I able to copy files to the SD card while it's running CM10? I wanted to copy some pdfs and ebub books to read and when I try to copy to the SD card it says the Nook is not responding or disconnected. I don't think this is a driver issue as I can see the Nook on my computer and can see the files stored either on internal storage or SD. When I'm in CM10 and go to file manager, I can only see what is on the SD card, I can't access any of my files that were on EMMC. That's fine, I have copies of my ebooks saved on my laptop, I just can't figure out how to read them now. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

You need to be a little more specific.
There are two methods to connect to your PC with CM10 using the USB cable, MTP and USB mass storage. They are selectable in settings. Go to settings, storage, menu and USB computer connection. MTP is default and shows the Nook as just devices in Windows Explorer with no drive letters. If you choose USB mass storage, they show as drive letters in Windows explorer. But they do not contain anything until you activate them by touching a button on your Nook. And the button does not show if Android degugging is activated in settings.
So that is why I say you need to be more specific.
You say you can't copy to the SD. What are you seeing on your PC, drive letters or just labels that say internal SD and sdcard? And describe a little more the errors.
The reason you can't see emmc with the file manager that comes with CM10 is by default it is in safe mode. You have to change a setting to get it in root mode. Either get a different file manager like the free Root Browser Lite or change the setting in the CM10 file manager. To change the setting, press menu while it is open and you will see three dots in the lower right. Touch that. Go to settings, general settings and access mode and change it from safe to root. Then you will be able to see emmc.

I think my quick reply didn't post. Anyway, thanks, again, for your help. When I went to transfer files from my external hard drive to the Nook, I was using the wrong lap top and then realized I had to update usb drivers which helped. I then followed your other steps to change settings, including safe to root, and I can now see all my files.
Can you recommend a file manager? The default one is a bit cumbersome.
Thanks again for everything.

I'd like to update to the May 4 nightly and new gapps, should I run the 567 partition zip again before flashing? If so, should I wipe cache and dalvik as well? Are you still using ADW launcher? I'm using Nova. Thanks.

The 5/4 nightly is CM10.1. The version you were running earlier was CM10. You should be able to just flash the 5/4 nightly with only wiping the dalvik-cache. No other wiping or partition zips. Since CM10.1 requires a newer gapps (20130301), you should flash that too.
Yes, I still use ADW, but only because I am used to it and do not want to try something new.

Is there any difference in performance running CM10.1 off emmc vs SD card which I'm presently doing with the April 7 nightly? I have some vague idea that I read a while back once you put CM10 on emmc you could no longer return to stock?
If I stay on SD card is there any harm in trying (I think the name is Dean) method to adjust internal partition for more room for apps? I've run out of room on SD card? Or is using Titanium to move files a safer alternative?
My kids are now using the Nook, I won an ASUS tablet from livinginkaos over at the Droidrzr forum. He had a give-away while fundraising for a root exploit bounty for JellyBean which Dan Rosenberg created. Method works using Linux Ubuntu, that forum is awesome. I was singing your praises to them. Android forums have the greatest support! Thx.

[Q] Time for a new step-by-step for Nook SImple Touch.

Hello.
I bought a refurbished Simple Touch from ebay and I would like to hack it to access my Google account and to install a better PDF reader.
http://lifehacker.com/5889158/turn-a-99-nook-into-a-fully-fledged-android-tablet-in-four-easy-steps didn't open my nook and caused it to get stuck in the loading mode, showing a screen that the nook is loading after I restarted it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469281 didn't work for me either. My Nook was stuck again. I didn't restore it using a special program. Instead, I turned it off six times to reset factory settings.
I used these files to hack my Nook:
Win32DiskImager.exe
touchnooter-1-6-24.img
touchnooter-2-1-31.img
I am stuck with two micro SD cards that used to be 4GB and now their apparent size is down to 75 megabytes and I don't know what to do since formatting doesn't solve the problem. What should I do to restore the micro SD cards?
The Nook Model is BNRv300
The Serial Number is 301413017......
Please help me install a hack on my Nook Simple Touch Reader.
Thank you.
Follow the steps in this thread. For your micro sd card use a partition manager to erase the partition and format the disk.

What kind of partition software do I use to restore my SD cards that lost volume after my attempt to nooter my Nook?
I am sorry to post this but it seems like there is very few information available for someone who wants to have a rooted Nook but is not a complete expert on the subject. I cannot post on the developer forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351 and it seems like developers are a little isolated from the users of their work.
What do I write to my Nook? Do I need to take out an internal memory that contains the default Nook software on it?
May I get something user-friendly for a common combination of Windows 7 x64 and a Nook Simple Touch?
Is there a any step-by-step solution that is up to date that I can apply to do this?
Thank you.
same boat
I'm on the same boat, new nook with FW 1.0.1
I used these files to hack my Nook:
Win32DiskImager.exe
touchnooter-2-1-31.img
After reboot it try to load and showing progress dots. And on the third dot screen would flash and do this in a loop
I tried factory reset by holding down buttons and after I reset to factory.same loop flashing.
The scripts are included in NookManager. What the author means is that he doesn't just blindly replace original Nook files with his own, he modifies them programmatically so that even if NookManager is used on a version of the Nook firmware that it wasn't designed for, there's a good chance it'll work (though this is no reason to go without a backup first!)
I'd be surprised if all the rooting approaches didn't use Linux under the cover, as a) it's free to use and distribute b) it's commonly understood by devs and many users and c) Android itself uses a modified Linux kernel and UNIX-like user environment.
As for getting your SD card space back afterwards, Windows makes this harder than it needs to be for no discernible reason. Essentially, you need to delete the partitions, delete the second and resize the first, or wipe the entire card and repartition. I don't tend to use Windows for that sort of thing, so I can't give clear advice. But googling phrases like "repartition memory card" seems to throw up useful-looking stuff. It all seems to vary from Windows version to Windows version, though. And the .inf file that is associated with each particular brand of memory card and memory stick.
Just a little tip for getting the SD card back to normal (Windows) is to use the Raspbmc installer. Once you have downloaded it just open it and click on the "Restore device for formatting" button and that will sort it out.

The NookManager instructions aren't as apparent as one might like but they are there at the bottom of the first post on the NookManager thread referenced above:
The download must be unzipped and the NookManager.img file must be written to an empty SD card. On windows, you can use disk imager. Linux and mac users can use dd.
To run, shut down your nook, install the SD card and power on. You should see the NookManager boot screen followed within 15 seconds by the welcome screen.

Alright, finally got a chance to do follow instructions, Thanks so much
I'll have to admit i panicked with what stuff Tarakan5 was posting but it is really that simple.
Download any free partition software for XP and delete partition on SD card to leave just one partition,. reformat with SDFormater
Extract image file to PC, and use Win32DiskImager as before.
Voala, it boots to NookManager with a nice menu,
Select option for factory reset.
Nook back ALIVE.
Get latest firmware from B&N
Upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.2.1
Stick SD card again to boot into Nookmanager again
Select backup (Wait 20 mins)
Boot again and select Root
And I think I'm rooted now.
Thanks
Just gotta find out how to use the rooted nook.

I finally figured it out. I installed Nook Manager and it worked.
Is there any way I can browse internet with my Nook on any basic level? I want to be able to see an online dictionary.
Is it possible to disable automatic updates on the Nook? I really don't want to hear from the Barns and Noble capitalists ever again. I have my own books on it and that stupid update that cannot install (for known reasons) interrupts my reading.
Thank you.

[Q] SD Somehow transferred cyanogenmod to Nook Color

I've tried to do a search for this but can't find it. I'm such a complete novice I may have run across it and not even known I did. I tried to make a bootable SD to be able to use the google app store. I've seen so many instructions now I don't even know where the first one I used is. I think I used CM7 (my Nook Color is version 1.4.1...don't know if that matters). So far, nothing I've done has added the shopping cart but first things first.
Evidently I must have really screwed things up because the cyanogenmod is now on my nook instead of the SD card (which explains why I had so many problems when I tried to redo it). The first thread I found doing a google search was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720&highlight=restore+to+stock.
After reading through it on the last page someone posted that it was a very old thread and to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258 and go down to 15A. But, having the technical skills of a pencil eraser, I can't even figure out which software to download, let alone how to accomplish the restoration. I actually managed to jailbreak my iphone but that was just a matter of downloading software and running it. This doesn't appear to be as simple.
I did manage to find all the files required by the first thread to do the restore, but then I got to this: Select "Restore virtual hard disk image" from the "Disk" menu. My winimage doesn't say that. I am using a new SD card so perhaps that's why. It's at that point that I read all the way through the thread to discover that method? or the firmware? was obsolete.
All I really want is to know which file(s) to download and, if possible, a link to instructions a 5 year old could follow. If I knew a 6th grader I'd just ask them because I'm pretty sure this is hard wired into their DNA. I'm 53 so that's probably half my problem. I can usually figure these things out but this has me completely stumped.
Thanks so much for your time.
You probably used ROM Manager and told it to install CWM and update to a new ROM. The problem is, ROM Manager only works on internal memory installations, not SD installations, so it installed CM to internal memory.
Don't use that old thread to flash stock back on to internal memory, even if you did find the files.
And age is not an excuse for not learning, I'm 68.
Go to my thread referenced above and download the stock 1.4.3 zip file from A15. It is linked in the text of A15.
Make a bootable CWM SD. Use that to flash the stock ROM. Download the file CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD.zip and extract it somewhere on your PC. You should end up with approximately a 300MB .img file. Burn that image to your SD using Win32diskimager per the directions quoted here:
To use Win32DiskImager, find it on the web (here, it's free) and install it on your Windows PC. Open it (be sure to run it as administrator) and select the drive (device) that has your card reader with your SD inserted. Then in the image file box put the location where you have the extracted img file. Then when everything is set right, click on the write button. A warning will pop up asking if you want to proceed. When you have verified that you are going to write to the correct device, click on Yes. (One user overwrote their external USB hard drive by not verifying first). If you get an error message about access denied, it means you are looking at the drive with Windows Explorer. Close Windows Explorer and try again. In fact, it is a good idea to close all unnecessary windows when burning, even your browser.
Click to collapse
Once the SD is burned, temporarily remove the SD from the PC and then reinsert in your PC. Then copy the Stock zip you downloaded earlier to the SD. Insert the SD into your Nook and boot. Once CWM appears, use the volume up/down keys to move the cursor and highlight "Install zip from SD". Then use the n key to activate it. Select the zip you copied to the SD. Go ahead and flash it.
When it is complete, take the SD out and boot. It should boot to stock.

I probably just need to take some deep breaths and clear my brain so I can start over. I just want to make sure I don't really mess it up to the point it's completely unrepairable.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! It works perfectly!
Sorry to be a bother, I don't know whether this is related. Everything loaded perfectly and it looks just as it did when I first turned it on but now every time I try to use the keyboard, it pops up for probably less than a second and then goes back down. I've tried to "catch" it to see if I could get a letter/digit each time to try and put in but it just goes up and down, up and down. I tried doing the set up with the boot disk in because I know nook reads the sd card first but that didn't help.
However, the version I originally had on the nook color was 1.4.1. Would it make a difference if I used the 1.4.3 instead?
Thanks

Did you follow the instructions in the thread where you were supposed to flash a format zip? I forgot to add that in the above instructions. It is not to late to do it. Boot to CWM and flash the format zip and boot back to stock and re-register again. That may be the cause of the keyboard problem.
And being 1.4.3 should make no difference.

Yes. Installed that as well. However, I did notice when I put the sd card in my computer a few times windows said "disk might be corrupt do you want to continue?" So that might be the problem. I'll go into town tomorrow and get a new one to see if that makes a difference.
Well, I got a new SD card and it's still doing the same thing, the keyboard just goes up and down, up and down so I don't know what to do now.
Cindie
fix it?
Did you ever get it fixed? I did (probably) the exact same thing as you did (installed flashable ROM in eMMC), and it took me hours to get it straightened out
Although I can't say for sure... since I wasn't really taking notes with what I was trying... I think what eventually got me going was using a different bootable (step 1), b/c my microsd card was an off brand (lexar 8gb).
What I did was...
1) made bootable SD card with [generic-sdcard-v1.3-CM7-9-10-larger-Rev5.zip] rather than "so&so size gb card CWR.img"
2) added [nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.zip]
Before I got it to work properly, I had various types of failures-
stuck at "n" screen,
wifi wouldnt work (so I didnt get past nook first start-up process),
appeared to work ok but screen would flash all the time (your keyboard problem)
Eventually I got it sorted, and through all this trial and error, was able to properly put CM10 on sd card whilst leaving nook "original". Lol.
*I'm a newbie at this stuff so please make corrections if I jacked my post up! This was a few days ago and I'm at work... so I can't reference my home 'puter

[HOW-TO] Installing CM11 Internally on Nook HD+

[Caveat emptor: adopt/follow this guide at your own risk].
FWIW, here the process I used to install CM11 internally (on emmc*) on my HD+:
Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on SD card a Primary FAT32 partition, and set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows.
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip and extract the .img file from verygreen’s emmc-cwm-early3.1.img.gz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)
Use the archive file manager to extract the files from the .img file and copy them to the SD card: first MLO, then next u-boot.bin, uImage, kernel, ramdisk.cwm.
Copy to the SD card:
verygreen’s flashable CWM recovery zip file cwm-recovery-ovation-6.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)
the zip file of CM11 ROM build of your choice – e.g., from http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=ovation (see http://www.cyanogenmod.org/blog/cm-11-m4-post-release-items for considerations in choosing nightlies vs. snapshot/stable builds)
the zip file of the Gapps package corresponding to CM11 – e.g., http://opengapps.org/?api=4.4&variant=nano
Put the SD card into the HD+, and boot from its power-off state.
[Optional step but highly recommended] Select Backup to backup your HD+ current ROM config (/boot, /recovery, /system, and /data).
Select Wipe data & factory reset.
Select install zip from SD card and install flashable CWM recovery zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install CM11 zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install Gapps zip file.
Remove SD card and select reboot.
Once the HD+ boots up, set up the wifi connectivity and your google account info.
If the Nook fails to boot off SD -- the two most common symptoms of failed SD boot and their likely causes are:
The HD+ boots straight to stock -- most likely the boot partition's type and/or flag are not correctly set, or the HD+ cannot find the MLO in the boot partition (make sure that MLO is the very first file to be copied to the freshly made /boot partition).
If the HD+ consistently boots straight to stock in spite of a valid /boot partition and boot files, it's possible that the tablet is one of those HD+ units that have difficulty booting of SD cards, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688 for more info and potential remedies.
The HD+ screen stays dark for seemingly a long time then eventually boots to stock -- most likely the MLO or u-boot.bin are corrupted. When in doubt, compare the size of the two copies of the files in bytes.

What to download?
Hey Guys,
First off I really appreciate the time you take to answer my questions.
I still need some guidance however.
Again I have "Android 2.2" The last stock upgrade they updated.
So with that being said. What files should I download, and what order.
Everyone is giving me different links and i am not sure what to do.
This is my first time every doing something like this on a nook or tablet.
So please be patient with me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Should I download the cyanogenmod software first to my nook folder on my computer desktop, and then what other files do I need?
Once I download them I plan to transfer them over to a card for my usb slot that is on the bottom of my nook I am assuming, correct?
Once I have the software I need, Then I need to know what order should I install what first.
When I am doing this software installs. Do I need to worry about what is on there now.
This is nothing I need to save so I am not afraid of loosing what ever is on the nook at the moment.
All of this stuff can be let go or deleted or refresh install. Don't care.
I just want to get my table to work like a computer basically. So, I can watch the videos that i want to watch on my tablet, and still
be able to surf the net and read internet websites, you tube .com and other websites I like of course.
By doing this process this will still allow me to do this I am assuming. Again, I have never mode so I am not sure what this
cyanogenmod is or what it can do to help. I am game for trying to do it if it gets me what I want it to do.
I did see the other links posted above. I just diidn't know where to start or what to download first do to the fact I have only 2.2 android software on my nook color hd+
Again, I appreciate the advice peeps!
Please elaborate if you can with what links and what to do. Thanks again. Karl

First of all, you need to realize that installing any kind of aftermarket ROM on your android device will void your warranty with no manufacturer support.
Second, installing ROMs is inherently risky, since there is always the possibility of bricking your device.
Thirdly, any kind of ROMs that you see in the Android Development section are not completely stable; they are usable but there will be bugs & glitches. So all ROMs come with a caveat: use at your own risk!
That being said, here's how it works:
You will need three files; (a) SD Card Image (b) Recovery Image (c) ROM that you want to install.
For this purpose I am using CM11 as the example, the thread is here.
[1] Every Android device has a manufacturer installed recovery program; to install a custom ROM you need to have a custom recovery. This custom recovery is what allows you to make changes to your Android device.
[2] The Nook HD+ has the advantage of being able to boot from its SD card slot (kinda like a computer booting from a CD/DVD drive).
[3] Download the image files and create a bootable SD card. Copy the Recovery Image and the ROM to this SD card. You will need WinImage to create this card in a Windows computer.
[4] Insert this card into the HD+ and reboot your device. Here's the kicker, the HD+ may not boot from the SD card and may simply go to normal boot. If that happens you will have to keep repeating it. Check older threads about this issue.
[5] Once it boots from the SD Card, follow the instructions listed in the first post of that thread.
Brief summary (this is true for most devices): Create a bootable SD card, use this card to boot the device, install Custom recovery into the device, then install the ROM. Once you have a custom recovery installed, you won't ever have to use the bootable card again unless you run into some issues.
Good Luck!
For Hirent.
Hirent,
First off, I want to say thank you so much for the very detailed reply you sent my way.
I will use this with digression of course. I am aware of the warranty issues that it will cause.
The one major question I have before I dive into this project.
I am aware of the possible bugs and how it is not perfected.
Will this enable me to download and install flash player on a updated android that was suggested in this article you posted?
Or will it just work automatically after I do the project of these software installs. Another words I will be able to open chrome or factory
browser and go to NHL.com, MLB.com, NBA.com and other s and play the videos on the Nook HD+ Color after installs or no?
Thanks for the advice, help, and replies.

FWIW, I am running CM11 (M11 snapshot build: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=ovation&type=snapshot) on my HD+, and Flash works reasonably well on the Chrome browser.
New Issue with SD Card 8gb, Centon
Hello,
I tried to follow the instructions on deleting partition on SD card. I also did get it wipe. But, the new issue is I am not able to go any further in the process.
I tried to read the card in my computer and now the card is not being recognized by windows on "my computer" It is H Drive.
IT was now its not. I deleted partition then was going to try to create the new partition. That was not highlighted on the partition magic software.
The article I was following was this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLbr1Uyr0sk
Now my SD card is not being recognize by windows 7 ultimate.
I also tried to do the right click trick on my computer then computer management. Then did click storage and then drive then so on.
However when I did that, only that screen recognizes my sd card before and after. But no other screens like my computer screen.
What do I do next with this card to continue. I was trying to follow that tutorial above then go to the windows disc 32 part.
Then drag the software over to start installing it on my nook. But, obviously I never got that far. Can you help me get the SD card to work again and tell me what I did wrong and what to do next so I can move forward to add CW & whatever android software will work well with flash. So I can use the other sites I mentioned in my other post.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am stuck and not sure what to do next.

Weird.
I just put the sd card in a usb card dongle that inserts the sd card into usb thumb drive and all of the sudden I see the drive on this computer now.
What should I do now?
Do I still have to go and do the windows disc 32 imager part.
Then drag and drop the software I need and drop in the card to my nook then install.
Or just drag software that I need like CM and Android and move forward with that.
Which should I do first. If it is the later part, which CM and Android should I use for the Nook color HD +?????
Thanks again for help and sorry about that first post, I swear it was it seeing it before. Weird.
Thanks, Karl
Google Play
I've followed all of the instructions and downloaded recovery, CM12 (cm-12.1-20160220-NIGHTLY-m7.zip), and gapps for 6.1. The system boots and I an navigate; however, Google play is not loading, when using the browser the content area becomes untouchable (touch screen in areas of the body of the page doesn't work), and there is not choice to set up a google account.
Any advice would be appreciated!

What tablet are you having this issue with?
AFAIK currently there is no CM12 nightly build yet for the Nook HD+ ("ovation") or HD ("hummingbird"). Make sure you pick the CM build specific for your device (e.g., cm-11-20160208-NIGHTLY-ovation.zip for the Nook HD+); using a ROM build for a different device can brick your tablet.

Nook HD+ and Google Play
Thanks for your quick reply. This must be the problem. I originally installed the CM11 and Google Play did not work so I went out and found another 'walk through' via the link given to me last time and thought CM12 was the right choice.
I'll go back and reformat after getting the right gapps for CM11.

For CM11 I'd suggest you use the GApps package http://opengapps.org/?api=4.4&variant=nano.

Thanks, so what I did go back and reformat the sd card and start over with the early, cm recovery ovation, cm11, gapps 4.4; however, apparently I didn't unzip and copy the early correctly because after I rebooted the hd+ after going through the wipe/install process, I got an error that the setup wizard could not start. I powered off, wiped the sd card and began again following directions very carefully making sure the MLO was copied first.
Now, it seems I have somehow bricked the device because it will not power on and has only a green light when plugged in, instead of the normal amber. Any ideas of how to get it to turn on and boot to the SD again?
EDIT:
Okay, as I stated in my edit, I got it to boot, but I'm still getting the popup "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has sopped. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time!!!

Did you do a "wipe /data & factory reset" before you flash/install the zip files of CM11 ROM and GApps?
Did the installation of the 2 zip files succeed without error messages?
I got it working after I got it to bypass the error by dragging down the menu and connecting to wifi. Once I did that I was able to set up the Google account and everything was fine thereafter. There is a bit of flickering now and then, but everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks so much for your time and help!!!
Recover Data?
Hi,
I've jut reinstalled cm11 onto my nook HD+ & realise I failed to copy a text file over before I formatted the HDD. Is it possible to recover a deleted file off the nook HDD via a PC? I've tried changing the developer option settings - Android debugging on, ADB Over Network on & connecting via USB both MTP & UMS (I think that's what they were) but when I run any of my Data Recovery programs in win7, the drive isn't recognised as an option to recover from.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
