OK, I must have inadvertantly started OTA and got the must install / delay screen pop up. I froze the smaller update system app to rid the pop up, and removed the update.zip package.
So far 2 weeks of reboots and use age no OTA package installer pop ups.
Is that for your I467 model and are you blocking the KitKat update, or a different model?
On both types... I am not dissabling OTA, as I may want to install 4.4.2 later. Just keeping the blasted install update notice from popping up every so often. It does not effect downloads or app installs, just keeps the notice from being a pain in the arse.
Do you happen to still have the 4.4.2 update.zip file?
@muniz_ri is trying to help us get root on 4.4.2 but he needs the 4.4.2 update.zip file for the i467.
If you have the file would you be willing to post a link so we can download it and work on rooting it?

Not for the i467 as I never connected with AT&T, just rooted and unlocked to use Virgin UK. Though I froze the software update to mirror my GT-N5110 settings.
OK thanks for the response

I thought I had read somewhere that you had both models, it was a pain.
I just couldn't remember how I stopped my pop-up, thanks you.

I'm sure that I have yet to complete a download of the OTA for I467. For years I'd preferred a custom Rom or kernel vs a carrier update - with that being said, how can I Download it & then STOP the installation (i do not want the update without root) & next, locate the zip to get it to you?
I would already guess that you and others have already tried.
***********************
It looks like someone had passed the file along & maybe Da_G is attempting a a workaround, yea!
OK, I realized that I had changed the option in about device to set auto update. If you go into app manager, and clear cache and data in both software update apps, you will reset parameters for FOTA. The nice thing about doing so on the GT-N5110, is that you can select world ROMs. UK GB is what I use, as it has 13 channel WIfI already set.
If you choose automatic, you will get a notice and will ask to install once the download iscompleted. if you do it manually, it will download when you select download.... but you can cancel.
The Firmware is located in System/cache/update, and the fle is update.zip.
If you like to mess with a library of ROMs, you can download as many as you like after renaming and moving them to SD.
As for rooting... Saferoot.zip works fine. there are a few topics that have it downloadable. just search in the Note 8.0 general and Q&A sections.

i have, no differences at all. battery life will tell in a day or two
So are we safe letting update go thru? Or should we hold off if we want root?
I wouldn't flash it yet. It contains a recovery image and I don't know if anyone knows for certain what's different about the image.
Would this have the correct test keys?
I flashed. Not noticing anything unexpected. Im getting my incredible replaced anyway. Sounds like I'm listening to people talk underwater.
I doubt you'd notice anything different; I'm just afraid that they've closed a useful hole.
Now if this thing would just stop asking me every 20-30 minutes ... grrrr.
The update fixes the email client for business users.
The meat of the update they don't tell you about, however, is there is a new recovery image in the updater. So yeah, maybe a hole was closed.
I held down volume down button and hit power, booted into the prompt, selected "recovery mode," and all I got was a red triangle and exclamation point.
I downloaded the zip, renamed it update.zip, and put it on /sdcard using Astro.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have the exact same problem.
dont do it
Just checking to see if people successfully installed this OTA update from the mirror site link provided earlier in this thread. I think it's my only chance to go to FroYo without using RUU/wiping the phone.
I figure I can update from 1.22.605.0 with this update and then go to the FroYo thread and run that update. Does that sound like it will work?

Root and OTA
I have rooted with unrevoked 3.1 but still have stock 2.1. Do I need to unroot to install the OTA or will the OTA still be pushed to my phone while I am still rooted?
just wondering if anyone else has received this update? it was a small 17.18MB. not sure exactly what it did. still on 4.2.1 attached is a screen shot.

Yea just installed ok. Haven't gotten into it to if there were much changes yet. Probably nothing immediately noticeable except it reoptimizes the apps on first start up. If looking for log here's the site but doesn't yet look like it was posted and probably won't be for couple days but when does can check here.
http://support.asus.com/download.as...300T&p=28&s=1&os=32&hashedid=8BmzkQ4yoz5WzBrW
The other things to check is to see if motochopper and other root methods work and if any one loses root we'll have to see if any one with root by motochopper method loses it which tell you truth probably not too much danger in that as it's only a minor update. I'm still waiting to root myself but would like to see what happens? If some one tries to root after the update if any thing changed.
System update failure
I received a notification of an update which I downloaded and told the system to apply. It shut down the system and began the update and then failed with a dead android with a red explanation point and the message update failed.
I rebooted my tablet and got a message that the original configuration was restored.
If anyone has had success in applying the update (US version) please let me know where I can get a valid copy to try. The links to the Asus site seem to point to the old 4.2.1 version.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that but it'll be on asus website it just takes them a couple days to a week or so to post it. Were you rooted by perhapse the motochopper method. There's cases if there are frozen apps and etc and if everythings not back in place as in normal use it would fail. Not sure it always applies but have heard of this. Also not sure if you want to try a factory reset and see if you get a prompt for the update again again works in some cases but not always and if that doesn't work the last thing you can do is if your not unlocked and can still get otas is to downgrade back to 4.1.1 and just go through update process again after it reboot the downgrade.
I wonder if the update addresses some of the issues we have been experiencing, random reboots, bluetooth permissions issue. There are a couple others that were brought up on the CROMI ROM thread.
On a stock firmware no random reboots, it only on CROMI
Updated (europe). All good. I had to do a 'restore root' and reboot twice with Voodoo OTA, to successfully restore root.
I am on the 4.1 style launcher and I noticed the clock font (bottom-right) has changed in this update. Looks bold and condensed now. Obviously this hints to more than just stability changes. Anyone on the 4.2 style launcher? I am curious to see if it has been improved in this update.
ASUS TF300T Firmware Update v10.6.1.15.3
I'm running it now, checked online for release notes before installing but found nothing but this thread so screw it, I just installed.
I'm not rooted as I don't want to void my warranty just yet and I'm cool with the stock rom.
I did switch to stock 4.2 launcher before installing the update to see if any changes there as Evan_ was curious.
Don't like 4.2 launcher myself because of the location of the buttons swap to middle and the ASUS Custom settings bar is odd to me.
Anyways, its running and I'll check back in if I find any changes.
Successful System Update
JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.15.3-20130416
Noticed Time & Date in status bar drop-down. (Don't recall that shown)
Switching back to 4.1 Launcher. (Prefer it as configuration is better, I hate the back button in the middle on 4.2.)
Noticed a Font change for the clock and all the stock ASUS widgets.

Really no need for sdcard. As long as you downloaded the 10.4.2.20 firmware from asus website in my case I didn't have to rename it. Just download and unzipped once and placed on root internal memory. You can just initiate the update by either inserting or removing the sdcard if it on root of internal. Just to be safe after unzipping once make sure it's name {US_epad-user-10.4.2.20.zip} or depending on firmware version put WW or CN and etc. In place of US. Should pick it right up.
Just to be clear are you trying to upgrade or downgrade?

I was attempting to get the new OTA upgrade that failed on my tablet. Found out something interesting about this upgrade approach. If I put in an upgrade of the same level like 10.6.x.x and was already at 10.6.x.x the system ignored it. But if I put in 10.4.x.x the system identified it and offered to do a downgrade, but would have erased everything and I wasn't ready to do that, but I may have to do so.

I have tried the SD card upgrade method with no luck but found that if I put in a lower level like 10.4.x.x the system saw it as a downgrade and would downgrade the system but would erase all my data, which I was not ready to do, but at least I have a path to should I so select.
Hi. I just got a notification telling me a new firmware was available for my i9505. I use TriangleAway to mask that my phone is rooted. However, when trying to update, the phone will reboot into TWRP, and thus unable to install/update further from there. I guess the easy solution would be to 'force' install via TWRP, but I'm unable to find the downloaded installer package. Any ideas to where the package is hiden, - or better ways to do this?

If you really want the OTA upgrade which I would advise against, instead you should
flash the latest samsung i9505 touchwiz 4.2.2 custom rom...using TWRP recovery.
But if you want the OTA update here is how to do it.
Download the stock recovery for your phone i9505: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22946563261204103
Then extract the TAR file out of the file you just downloaded and flash it using Odin in the PDA slot.
After doing that the OTA will or should update.
When it's done updating you will be left with the stock firmware and the phone will NOT be rooted.
But it's up to you what you want to do.... I cannot think of even one advantage of allowing the OTA to update
unless you want to return or exchange your phone for some reason or another.
Good luck with it.
Good idea, if not for..
Thanks for your swift reply. Actually, the whole reason for rooting was of course to put a modified ROM on the phone However, I was stuck with this issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278172), which prompted me to halt that project. However, I now have an additional problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302091) which means that if my phone gets Re-Locked, I might never get rid of the excess files mentioned. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, much ?

not really, with a little practice using a file manager like Root Explorer you can
find that file you are looking for, it will be a much larger file than any other
file on your phone except for the custom rom zip files.
So with a good file manager which has options to SORT files by name/size/date
it should be easy to find ONE very large file...
The OTA update is only 1 file, it's not like a bunch of files that are scattered in your phone.
Good luck!

I get the same thing with the wife's S4. I downloaded the update 3 times now in the last month. Each time it shows installed but when verifying the OS and number its the same. So, got on chat with an ATT tech. Seems there is another "hold" on the update, they contacted Samsung tech and the deal is this according to Samsung.
The update comes from Google as an Android update, its up to the carriers to approve the update. Att says it comes from Samsung and its there responsibility to do the update. So where does this go? The usual pass the buck so and so says this. ATT says its Samsung, Samsung says its Google, Google says its ATT. As for the update. Its there but it don't install because ATT stops it with another hold on it.

You can't load something that isn't there. I have yet to find an OTA update to load but keep looking. Att says it will put it out when it gets ready. Only other option you have is to root and go custom. Mine is rooted with TWRP recovery, but as of yet I don't have a custom rom. It's my wife's phone and she isn't into the techy things as I am so I have let it go and when it happens it happens on the GS4. The HTC one I have is all dolled up with unlocked bootloader, S-Off , TWRP, and converted to a GPE model then running a custom rom.

I didn't know there was a download of the OTA anywhere. I have been googleing and looking on the XDA for it for a while and come up empty handed in all searches. Some people have flashed it from stock recovery from their external sd card, but this does do a full wipe I believe, where the ADB sideload doesn't wipe. Haven't heard of anyone flashing it thru TWRP, you may want to find a version without the bootloaders so that you don't lose the rom flashing ability. I'd imagine that your on MDL?

You'll either have to Odin back to stock and do the update, or research the error codes and see what you can do from there.

Samsung and rooting is not one of my favorite phones. This is my wife's phone but I rooted it a long time ago , just never did any thing with it so I know very little about it. The sideload failed with no error codes, it wont install from anywhere. From what I am reading any way, I just maybe should leave it alone till ATT gets it together if they do and comes down with a good download. Even the tech on chat yesterday said they pulled the download because of issues but failed to know it was still up for a download.
Hello XDA members,
I seem to have borked something on my new SM-T530NU (GALAXY TAB 4 10.1 WI-FI) when I attempted to root the device (to get rid of all the bloatware).
I followed the instructions I found online (can't insert links yet) and everything seemed to have worked fine (Odin giving me a PASS). Once I got into the OS I noticed I was unable to connect to my WIFI. I reread the instructions and this time noticed my build id was different than the writer's (I have KOT49H.T530NUUEU1AOA2 and he had KOT49H.T530NUUEU1AND4). I checked the CF-Auto-Root Repository and noticed they don't have one for mine
Finally I decided I would download Kies 3 from Samsung and do a Firmware Upgrade and Initialization but that accomplished nothing.
Can anyone help me solve this?
hi, it sounds like you have a mismatch between your kernel and your kernel's modules, instead of an upgrade you may need to do a full reflash of
the current rom version you upgraded from/to i'm guessing ND4 all the way. Alternately you could try one of the repacked stock roms that are available, otherwise you could attempt a custom kernel build so your modules match up , package it and flash it, note that this is not as simple as an odin flash and problem solved. You would need to pack that custom kernel build for recovery flashing instead, meaning the package would have to write the boot.img to it's proper location and the modules to their proper location /system/lib/modules.
check /system/lib/modules on the rom you are running right now and see if wlan.ko is present. If there is a folder in /system/lib/modules named pronto then see if in that directory the modules pronto_wlan.ko exists and if it is symlinked one directory up to wlan.ko
you should always inspect fota's and firmwares before flashing. if you have the firmwares still and/or you managed to capture the upgrade, inspect them to see what was written/overwritten and you'll have an idea of what your issue might be.
also in terminal su and enter the command after toggling wifi on
lsmod
if wlan.ko does not show up, try
modprobe -f /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko
alternately try entering in terminal as su
svc wifi enable

check /system/lib/modules on the rom you are running right now and see if wlan.ko is present.

Thanks for the info moonbutt74,
I don't feel comfortable playing with the Kernel / commands (besides I seem to have lost the Super User when I flashed to the latest firmware using Kies3) so I decided to try some old firmware like you recommended (PDA T530NUUEU1AND4 / CSC T530NUXAC1AND4) on sammobile and flashed my device with Odin using the default options. Wifi/bluetooth works now but now I have a new problem; Google Play services keep stopping and giving me errors. I clicked ok a few times and the error is no longer appearing however I can't seem to login to Google (Can't establish a reliable connection to the server) . If I try to access gmail.com from Chrome it tells me something is interfering with your secure connection to gmail.
Any ideas?

Disregard, turns out the time/date was off by a few months and setting it to the current time/date fixed the SSL issue but Google Play Services are going nuts / stopped.

okay cool, sub77 and i both have recoveries available for the sm-t530nu pick whichever,
when a device has a custom recovery available you don't need to go the long way around for root anymore.
search google for supersu update zip
and download and flash the latest version and flash in recovery and your root should be solved.

And a factory reset fixed the Google services but I'm still getting some weird issues with the Play store. I'll do some digging and see what I come up with.
In the mean time, do you have any recommendations on how to proceed to properly root my tablet? I really want to get rid of some of the bloatware on this thing...

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Thanks alot for all your help!
On a side note, is there a good ROM out there for the Tab 4 ? It seems the support for this device is really slim ... Preferably something based off Lollipop?

see sub77's threads for rom builds all beta or alpha
see repey6's threads for modded stock roms.
i have a rough slimrom build [not release] with no camera and battery issues.
developement takes time and is done for free and largely on a hobby basis.
sub77's is coming along nicely as to progress on cm12

Stupid thing ... the tablet decided to update itself and I'm back to square one (wifi not working). Sigh.
What do you recommend? Should I reflash NAD4 and and turn off updates? Or is there a better solution?

ahh okay, you need to install your chosen custom recovery with odin.
read the entire OP [original post].
I have to cut you off here to give you the push you need to make the most
of XDA. Within the tab 4 section you will find full instruction to accomplish
your mission but, you must search for it. That and i have a few projects
in front of me at the moment. Just keep a level/focused head and you'll
get things sorted. :good:

You can't install a custom recovery from stock recovery, I would recommend downloading the img file and installing it with the flashify app from the play store, that's how I got a custom recovery on my tablet and I have the same model as you. As far as Roms, both metallica's cm 11 and sub77's cm12 are great, just depends if you want Kit Kat or lollipop

Just wanted to thank you both for your invaluable help. I'm now running a custom rom by repey6 and everything is working all minus all the Samsung bloat.
Cheers
