hello, i am new here, i have been considering for some time to root my nexus 7 but have been unsure, a few people i know have already rooted thier devices (phones, tablets) and have said it is worth it. i have asked them how its done but htye have stated that they got someone else to do it for them.
I used to be an apple fan and have experience in jailbreaking from ios 3. but that is totally different to rooting.
can anyone help how to root this device? many thanks

Hi there,
I'd consider reveiwing this thread: [GUIDE] Unlock and Root a Nexus 7
Related
Backstory: I bought a Nexus 10 on Ebay and it had a bunch of custom stuff on it that I deleted and inadvertently hard bricked the device. I've spent countless hours trying to fix this and it will not accept any new (stock) roms or anything for that instance. I've read that the makeshift "jig" devices can force devices into download mode.
1. Is that true?
2. Does it work for the Nexus 10?
3. If so, do you know where I can purchase one?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Is this thread about what you are asking ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629359
Hi, All.
Due to a bug in Lollipop, custom ringtones are not 'remembered' by my Nexus 4. This seems to be quite widespread over different phone models, and it's damned annoying.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/u8DKxK_Yhn4
My questions are-
a) Does anybody have a resolution to this that doesn't involve rooting the phone to gain write access to /system/media/audio/ringtones ?
b) If rooting the phone is the only solution, is this article still considered the best method of rooting a Nexus 4 (it's three years old):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/guide-ultimate-nexus-4-root-guide-t2018179
and if not, could you please advise of the current, best method of rooting a Nexus 4.
Current details: Android 5.1.1, Baseband:- M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1701.07 - Kernel:- 3.4.0-perf-g99F5b2b - Build #: LMY47V
All help appreciated.
Yes that guide works, just flash TWRP instead of CWM.

This is my first post, hope you can help me :- Hope its in the right place
I have just acquired a nice nexus 10 and managed to upgrade it to android to 5.1.1.
I am a complete novice when it comes to anything to do with rooting or custom ROMs and have always been scared to tackle anything like this, but it seems a pity that I am stuck with Lollipop when my phone is showing me the benefits of the latest nougat upgrade.
So do I chicken out again or do I ask for advice from the experts in this forum to hold my hand while i upgrade to nougat ?
I see a post by Trafalgar Square "how to install android 6.0.1 marshmallow" and although I don't understand much ( at the moment ) about what the developer is telling me to do I think that if i could have my hand held with a similar GUIDE for Nougat then I think i would have the guts to have a go. I see a posts by Sooti who is advocating using AOSP [7.1.1_r4] ( Again I am unsure what he is telling me to do ) and without an absolute basic guide I dare not consider that.
So what do your experts recommend that I do ? Can I be helped ? or must I allow the general fear of "bricking" my device to stop me again as it always did before .
Must I be so afraid of bricking it or could I be helped to recover from a bricked device should the worst happen ?
Download the Nexus Root Toolkit by wugfresh. It makes rooting and flashing custom ROMs as well as custom recovery a breeze! Plus if you brick it, it's most likely going to be a soft brick (bootloop) and the Nexus Root Toolkit will easily fix it. (Trust me, I've been there a few times.)
If you'd like Android Marshmallow, I might recommend OmniROM, unless Lineage has fixed the battery drain issue. (CyanogenMod 13 was terrible on battery.)
Lineage 14 can be found around here which is based on Android Nougat. It's supposedly really fast and battery efficient. Though it has some bugs, most notably the camera is disabled because the camera server keeps crashing and kills the battery otherwise from what I understand. So if you don't care about a camera, Nougat is available, otherwise stick with Marshmallow.
Since I use my Nexus 10 for Skyping on occasion, I'm stuck with Marshmallow. If Lineage 13 has fixed the battery drain issues, I'd definitely be interested to know.
Thank You Rochester. As I type this post I have followed your recommendations and managed to root the nexus and installed busybox. I will now follow the next section and decide whether to choose nougat

Aye, no problem! I'm glad I could help, and welcome to the forums!
AgentOrange96,
I Chose the OmniROM route like you. Wugfresh has done a marvellous job with his Toolkit, and I will be saying thanks to him too !!!
I am all up and running now and my experiences with your forum has removed my fear of Custom ROM flashing and Rooting, so much so that my nexus 6P will be rooted and customised next.
Many thanks to you ( and Brandon your Chief Admin ) for welcoming me as a member !!!
Hello,
a friend of mine owns the mentioned tablet in the subject. As we want to use both a specific app (Skydemon) on our tablet, unfortunately now it seems that this tablet is not compatible with its version 7 of android with this app (other tables are working fine with android 7 and skydemon), I am searching for a custom rom. In my opinion lenovo itself does not offer any more uprades to this tablet. Is tehere really also no custom rom available for this device?
By the way, what exactly is version 7504X? Is it a Tab7? Tab3 7? Tab 4 7? Lenovos name convention is really confusing for me ...
Cheers

Hello,
I have a Nexus 7 (2012) that I like to update to a newer android versin, e. g. Nougat, to get some performance back. Unfortunately, all that I found on this topic here or in the web is very technical, with much insider phrases. Therefore, can anyone recommend a site that guides me step by step through the process? This would help me a lot.
Many thanks
